Today, I thought I would share this aerial photograph (dated to 1968) of Pouērua. Pouērua is a terraced and fortified rim pā situated on a volcanic cone to the north-west of Lake Owhareiti. Pouērua, is an example, of a mature split volcanic cone, where a new vent formed outside the split. Earthworks created on this mature cone created a pā with several defended segments around the rim and has a total perimeter-length of some 600m. Amazing to think this stunning locale sits in the pastoral countryside of Northland.
