Helena: It’s my happy place, okay? The last time I remember feeling safe I was here.

Helena: Huh. Foxbury has gotten more creative. Still assholes, though.

Caleb: Are you picking the lock?

Helena: Are you an undercover cop? Relax.

Caleb: I just wouldn’t have guessed casual breaking and entering was your style.

Helena: I’ve already done worse things than the old me could even imagine. Committing a petty crime seems hilariously quaint in comparison.

Caleb: Tell me this isn’t about finally getting revenge on some professor who once gave you a poor grade. Clay?

Helena: Ulrike made me take a pottery class with her one summer. I was terrible at it, but for once I didn’t care. It was oddly meditative. My brain was at peace. I could really use that feeling now.

Helena: Caleb, look! [hisses dramatically]

Caleb: [laughing] Stop! You’re distracting me.

Helena: Will you show me the rest of the story now?

Caleb: Tomorrow. You should really try to get some rest first.

FEESH MASK

Handbuilt earthenware, pit fired and decorated with hand painted slip and underglaze accents.

This mask is a part of a (loosely connected) mask series, all hand-built and fired using a range of different temperatures and techniques.

This mask was my first pit firing! I'm super happy with how it turned out, as well as the colouration it ended up with. Initially, I had intended for the fish to be a sort of silvery blue, but it ended up with some neat pink and smokey look across the whole mask.

Some photos of it during firing as well as pre-fire (and the inside which u should totally look at bc the colours r neat) are under the cut!

The potter works punch, smooth, coil pinch the nose, step back, drive a hole each side for air. The mouth - no, the mouth comes later. Two swipes for eyes, two hollows. The angle of a jaw.

Moving on: punch out the chest, two huge slabs two hollows to be filled with carefully formed heart & lungs & guts in all their hidden detail. And further down. Scrawny bum. Hollow it. Slap on some thighs, fill them in, muscle, bone, muscle. Add a lump of clay where they meet. Then the lower legs. Muscle, bone, muscle. Smooth the arch of a foot, let it curl into the toes, let it sing. Ten fingers. A whole body, under the potter's eyes.

He stands back. He sees that it is good.

And finally: the mouth. Formed open, ready to receive. Formed ready to breathe.

He stoops, bends low before his creation, breathes.

And the clay breathes the eyes crack the dirt heart beats

i think that one of the biggest detriments to louis’s happiness is his lack of creative outlet. like every other vampire we see has some form of artistry: armand directs, lestat is musical, claudia writes. but the one creative passion louis had he abandoned and now he only deals in other peoples art. he doesn’t even trust himself to write his own story. and yeah i think eternity would seem pretty empty if you had nothing to put into it

After 7 years on my job, I'm finally on my first educational leave (Bildungsurlaub) this week! Most of my colleagues do it every year, but I couldn't until now because I only had fixed-term contracts. Now it's finally my turn to get fully paid for a whole week while learning a couple of relaxtion techniques and sipping tea 😊
