Acting like the only people who have any capacity for cruelty or violence are "bad people" is actually really stupid. It means you refuse to recognize your own capacity for cruelty and violence. You're not A Bad Person, so you can't possibly be capable of Doing Bad Things. And anyone who'll admit to having Done Bad Things is obviously A Bad Person - because if you're a Good Person then you don't ever, ever Do Bad Things. People have been telling us to take responsibility for our own actions - when we've literally laid out what we did, and what we're doing to try and be more aware of that behavior. But apparently, to some people, saying that you're aware it's a combination of mental illness, trauma, and neurodivergence that makes you fuck up in that particular way means "not taking responsibility". Apparently being aware that people around you who are also mentally ill, traumatized, and neurodivergent might have similar trauma reactions that caused them to over-react is also this. Seems like what they want is for us to admit we're evil. If we're blaming anything other than us being A Bad Person who needs to publicly humiliate themselves until we're Redeemed, then we're not really taking responsibility. Not sure if this is cultural Christianity re: Being A Sinner or ableism but it's probably their horrible mutant baby. We're aware we're capable of being an asshole, and choosing to be kind doesn't mean we're always successful in being so, but we try anyway.

Looked into the weirdo meditation thing, ended up asking myself. Apparently it isn’t a fetish thing and Juliet never meant it in that way.

I understand why people assumed it was fetish content, but I’m pretty sure this is a case of a minor not realizing what they’re doing can be deemed inappropriate.

I don't believe this is an autistic interest. As someone who is both autistic myself and in a community of other neurodivergent people, it's a bit offensive to assume this level of obsession is simply the result of autism. Asking many people of which you don't personally know to draw something specific completely unprompted crosses the line from hyperfixation to fetish (an excessive and irrational devotion or commitment to a particular thing). But even as a minor myself, I was not compelled to do something like this. Meant as a fetish or not, Juliet did admit this was an obsession. The autistic part is assumed at best on their part. And it still isn't right to rope people into an obsession without their knowledge in order to feed it. That still qualifies as fetish mining, even if it isn’t sexual. It doesn't have to be sexual be considered such.

Even if it is just a minor not fully understanding their inappropriate behavior, it should not just be ignored and swept under the rug. The callout post was made to bring awareness and inform those who may think this was innocuous that it was instead feeding into this person's meditation obsession. I also hope this will encourage Juliet to stop their inappropriate behavior since they are now aware that it is not safe for a minor to do these things.

There's a very old legend in Liyue about a god and his maiden, in which he killed her when they met in a duel, but Celestia who was kind and saw they were each other's true love, decided to give them a second chance, so the day they met and fought would repeat itself until they discovered they were each other's soulmate.

"The day on which both soulmates should meet happens again and again until they meet properly."

The problem is that Celestia was not very especific which maiden or which god...

Basically, the second Zhongli kills you (or you kill him), Celestia keeps draging Morax (from his longass tail ponytail) back to the morning of the final battle until it finally dawns on him that he most likely killed his soulmate.

So since the legend says the only way time advanced again for the god was to earn the heart his maiden fairly... I guess Zhongli will have to put all of his efforts into seducing the beautiful enemy general for Liyue... in less than a single day.

Hi sophie! I hate to be the person who brings bad vibes your way, but I keep seeing ppl twisting your arguments in the worst way possible and it’s honestly bumming me out. The latest vaguepost claims that saying Louis is traditionally masculine or a patriarch is antiblack (this is the post btw in case your curious: https://www.tumblr.com/nashvillethotchicken/770055675307065344/a-lot-of-people-in-the-iwtv-fandom-regurgitate?source=share). It made me wonder whether this pushback against Louis’ masculinity has something to do with a narrow concept of gender roles in general. Because there always seems to be this idea that being masculine equals being a hyperviolent abuser, while any gentle or submissive trait immediately gets interpreted as “feminine” (and overall I see a very strong correlation between femininity and victimhood -especially in the context of domestic abuse -which is understandable but not necessarily helpful when talking abt a gay couple). I agree a lot with your interpretation of Louis as a Byronic hero and the points you’ve made about his and Lestat’s gender presentation, so it sort of surprises me to see so many people believe that recognizing Louis’ masculinity somehow negates his sensibility and his capacity for tenderness (not to mention the assumption that we are trying to defend Lestat and make him into a victim, which is a wild leap and a very bad faith reading of the whole argument imo)

Hey, anon, and that's okay. I can appreciate feeling bummed about my words being twisted into a strawman argument - I do sometimes too - but at the end of the day, that's out of my control and I think says a lot more about the people who'd do it than it does about me.

It's actually kind of interesting to me, because I think with a lot of those sorts of posts, the person actually kind of knows they're strawmanning, because they'd address me directly if they actually thought any of what they wrote in that post was what I was saying, and they almost never do. They make these sorts of posts loudly and publicly to turn the argument into one that stokes outrage and becomes something they can adopt a moral highground to and win, and I think in a lot of ways, it becomes an exercise in control. If they can put words in my mouth and not actually engage with me, they can control the environment of the debate, and therefore they can attempt to control the discourse in the fandom i.e. dictate the way Louis is perceived and received as a character by others. They want it to look like they're arguing my points, but they're not.

They're arguing with the points they want me to be making, because if my points are that Louis' a mindless, hypermasculine 'brute' and a 'sexual deviant', they know they're right and they know how to argue against that, but if my argument is what it is - that Louis is pretty traditionally masculine, and in fact that he has almost all of the Byronic masculine traits which includes sensitivity, warmth, depression, egotism, a vengeful streak, and a complex relationship with religion, sexuality, and the self - it becomes a conversation that requires a more nuanced understanding of what masculinity is and has been throughout history and literature, which doesn't work with the TERFy talking points that are, frankly, endemic in fandom spaces broadly right now.

Which yeah, that goes to your second point about gender roles, because I think that you've hit the nail on the head. A lot of people in this fandom seem to view the concept of masculinity as inherently violent or abusive and femininity as - to borrow a phrase I loathe from TikTok, haha - demure and mindful - which is, again, literally TERF rhetoric. This desire to reinforce the gender binary and feel like you're not simply because you're applying reductive and stereotypical female characteristics to a male character is just sort of baffling to me, on so many levels.

And it appears in a lot of their arguments, like, gosh, even the post I was linked to yesterday about Eartha Kitt, David Bowie and Grace Jones being influences for Louis as indicative of his 'feminine divine', which to me - honestly - reads as a pretty homophobic and misogynistic take. Cisgender men can be (and are!) influenced personally, creatively and professionally by women, and the suggestion that to be so negates masculinity and is indicative of femininity feels like a pretty dangerous rhetoric to me.

The funny thing is, I don't actually have an issue with people liking femme!Louis at all. It's not how I see him, no, but I respect the fact that how we interpret characters is subjective, and people bring their own history and interests and yes, kinks to a show, and I actually think that's really cool! That's part of what makes engaging with stories and fandom fun! What I find exhausting is the recurring accusation that anyone who doesn't see Louis as a battered housewife entering his liberated woman era is a racist.

Ooooooo yes absolutely. There are a few ways to handle hate, and it depends on your approach. How do you perceive who is giving you hate, how do you perceive yourself and your actions in conjunction with hate, and how do you act in accordance with it? This is a rambly and sleep deprived stream of consciousness of my perception on the navigation of hate and disrespect. (And if my tone towards whoever is sending you hate is harsh it's honestly because I think people who send internet hate are the lowest of the low and I cannot imagine wanting to put someone down for sharing parts of themselves.)

If someone is taking the time to send something negative your way it says far more about them than it does about you. The first thing I do is restructure the comment and its intention. If they wanted to provide critique or assistance, there were better ways to go about it, so all they wanted to do was gain power by hurting your feelings and devaluing your work. Which means the ball is now in your court because you do not have to respond in a way that satisfies their intent.

So, once you've recognized the person burning energy and letting you live rent free in your head is not worth the time and brain power necessary to really let it weight you down (ofc easier said than done but I PROMISE if they are sending you hate they are not worth listening to), now you can form a response. I take a few approaches in navigating the waters of whatever buffoon had nothing more in life more important than sending moronic and pointless hatred.

You can ignore them, but this really depends on your mentality, I think. I am not someone who can turn the other cheek very often to genuine hateful behavior, especially if it is aggressive or attacks something I care very deeply about. I think there are advantages to just blocking them, moving on, and getting satisfaction in knowing they just wanted a reaction and you gave them none. But it often takes a lot not to let it get to you, and I'm someone with a lot of anxiety and that can really affect me. It depends. If it's an attack on my character like... ok? I'll ignore that more often than not. Maybe let myself feel hurt (which is really valuable - validate your feelings. You are not failing by letting any negative comments impact you.) but overall this person is hiding behind a computer screen and had nothing better to do. They don't know you. They want to hurt you and they will throw anything your way to do so. It's harder with something you've made, or a vulnerability you've exposed. Attacking someone's art or writing is an especially hurtful and petty act. And it's not easy to ignore. So I say ignore them, but I think that is so much easier said than done.

This is the part where I should double down and say like... "oh treat people how you want to be treated! be the bigger person! don't respond! turn the other cheek!" which I disagree with. You don't owe them anything, so if you want to respond you should. I think making people feel bad for being affected by hate is the wrong approach. I also think having a response or calling them out on being (pardon my french) assholes does not make you a less kind individual. Being kind (if being kind is important to you, and you seem very sweet so I stress this especially bc from someone who grew up being told to be "nice" I still struggle with standing up for myself) doesn't mean you have to sit there and take criticism. I'll get off my soap box in a second, but you can be kind and call someone out for being heinous. Being kind does not mean being a doormat, it means you are also kind to yourself.

My go to is typically to make a joke of it or rationalize until they talk themselves in circles and/or look foolish. Especially if you're funny, anon, and I bet you're INCREDIBLY funny. I get a funny energy from you. And I really get a thrill from making light of it, even if it does hit a little close to home. I hope this makes sense. Sometimes when I get hate in my ask box and I CANNOT be bothered to just hit delete (though that is very fun, and cathartic) i just unleash my best material on them. You told me to die? Well, I just performed a comedy stand up special. Who's winning in life? Not the fool who just lost my epic roast battle. I'm funny and sexy and and skilled. They are not. They are sad and petty and hateful and instead of going out and getting coffee with their friends they are sitting on their devices and taking unnecessary shots at you.

I also think just letting them make a fool out of themselves by remaining rational is enjoyable. This is something I deal with most often when someone attacks my ideas. I write a lot of character analysis, and I engage in a decent amount of controversial ships. (Which shouldn't even be controversial but I digress) So when someone tries to attack your ideas, feel free to break it down for them. I get a personal satisfaction from this, one entirely disconnected from the person sending hate. This is very "open internet forum" specific and something I do on places like tumblr, tbh. You're attacking my ship? Here's a long breakdown of why I like this ship, why you're wrong about your view on it. You think I'm a moron who doesn't understand a character? Here's my MLA formatted essay on what about this character made me write or portray them in this manner. I think this is more a redirection. Because what started as this horrid and disrespectful scenario has turned into an opportunity to express my feelings on something I love. Because the person trying to hurt you is wanting you to take this personally and get defensive and petty and mean back.

This is all general advice, mainly involving fandom disputes, but let me come at it from a creative perspective. The internet is so beautiful and inspiring of creativity and it is also incredibly cruel. They will see someone passionate about their work and they will tear you down because they do not occupy the same creativity or bravery to share a piece of yourself. They are attacking you because they do not like seeing you enjoy yourself. They have NOTHING better to do. And that is so incredibly sad, in my opinion. You are doing something extraordinary, even if you won't admit that to yourself, and they are doing something hateful. You are creating something and they are tearing something down. I want you to remember that first and foremost. YOU are doing something meaningful. I hate being cliche, but the best thing you can do is approach yourself with love. And keep creating. Keep making art and putting pieces of yourself in it. Because you are doing something worthwhile, something with heart and ambition and joy and whimy. Do it for yourself, because you deserve something special just for you. Try to focus on yourself. Once again, I stress that being a kind person is being kind to oneself.

I think I want to round this out by saying that you, whoever you are, do not deserve the hate you've gotten. You are incredibly skilled and wonderful and full of something significant enough another person feels the need to tear it down. And you deserve to be uplifted for your creations, your thoughts, your character. You deserve kindness and warmth and it is the worst part of the world we live in that someone on the internet sees you doing something you love, existing in peace, and feels the need to tear you apart. So, with all sincerity, I say that you deserve to feel your feelings, feel your hurt and you deserve to keep creating. For every one person who comments something hateful, one hundred more have seen your work and have gotten delight and joy and love from it. Because at the end of the day, you can respond any way you want to. But what matters most is what you do next, and I cannot stress how important it is that you push forward and keep creating, keep putting yourself out into the world in the way you have been brave and bright enough to do so. And, honestly? Have a laugh at their expense. Because like I said: you are doing something extraordinary, and you should take solace in the fact you are doing so.

just kinda soft, chatty, fluff. soft lighting, decaf coffee talk vibe. dan talking about gender with phil, discussing his feelings on it all. not quite feeling solid with a label, not quite wanting to say he isn’t a man. after all, it took so long for him to find comfort in the “gay man” label. and i can just picture him asking phil how he feels and phil just being like “i like being a boy” or something to that effect, and dan just realising he doesn’t always like it. gender is something much bigger to him? he isn’t sure what he feels, but it’s probably not cis male.

Nothing is known about Amphoreus beyond the singular fact that it is a kingdom whose size and power rivals that of the IPC’s vast empire. They’d been under isolationist policy until the recent ascension of one King Mydeimos to the throne, who outlined his wishes in his letter to your kingdom of wanting to connect with other kingdoms and discuss trade agreements and alliances.

You and the rest of your court spend weeks discussing his letter and how best to proceed. There’s a healthy amount of distrust in all of you given that, to your knowledge, you’re the only kingdom to have been contacted by them, and there is absolutely no information on this empire. 

Veritas and Himeko are the most hesitant, cautioning against being the first to make contact with Amphoreus when there’s nothing to be said about their policies, motivations, or military prowess. Too many unknown factors creates far too great of a risk to justify any potential gains to be had from blindly rushing into an alliance.

Welt and Dan Heng, on the other hand, are more open to the idea. They both bring up the fact that your kingdom’s reputation is maintained by your amiable image, and turning away King Mydeimos now could tarnish that and have ruinous implications down the line, especially since your kingdom’s decisions usually set the tone for how others will respond. You’re a cornerstone of the world, and with exceptions such as Penacony and the IPC Empire, many others look to you for how to respond to global relations. Amphoreus may not take kindly to you shutting them out if everyone else follows suit, and you’re still not certain how much of a threat they might be.

March, brilliant young woman that she is, suggests acting as a middleman before making a definitive decision; who doesn’t like a party? You can host a ball in the palace where the rulers of Amphoreus can formally introduce themselves to the world, and any first impressions and negotiations can happen on everyone’s own terms, without all the pressure being on your shoulders.

After working out the details, you draft a response with your proposition of hosting a ball for Amphoreus in honor of King Mydeimos’s ascension and send it off to the distant, mysterious kingdom. The response is signed by “Heir Tribios,” who eagerly agrees to the event and sends their many thanks and behalf of all the “Chrysos Heirs.”

It’s information Veritas dutifully files away for later. He and Dan Heng have spent hours picking apart every last word of both letters you’ve received, gathering whatever meaning they could in an attempt to know what to expect come September, in three months, when the ball will occur.

You invite every ruler you believe is important enough to be present, and that you are on at least civil terms with: Emperor Diamond and all of his advisors; Queen Fu Xuan, Generals Jing Yuan and Feixiao, Lord Yanqing, and Lady Yunli; Lady Kafka and her equally notorious court; Prince Gepard and General Bronya; Queen Herta; Queen Ruan Mei; and—after swallowing your pride—Prince Sunday and Princess Robin.

You wouldn’t admit to it even if you were held at swordpoint, but somehow, Sunday’s presence would make you feel more comfortable that night; despite everything that’s happened between you two, you’ve always recognized how good of a leader he is, and just this once, you’ll appreciate his rather manipulative, cunning nature when it comes to assessing Amphoreus and their “Chrysos Heirs.”

To absolutely no one’s surprise, the IPC is the first to confirm their attendance, and for the first time, your palace will be seeing the rare honor of having all ten of Emperor Diamond’s advisors present at his side. The Xianzhou Alliance is next to confirm the attendance of the rulers of the Luofu and Yaoqing, shortly followed by both Queen Herta and Queen Ruan Mei’s attendance. The rulers of Belobog accept your invitation soon after that. You don’t hear from Lady Kafka, but she never formally responds to any invite, anyway. She always chooses to just show up when she feels like it, and you have a gut feeling that she wouldn’t miss something like this.

Penacony’s acceptance is penned by Sunday himself—you’d be able to recognize his flawless script anywhere. At first glance, his letter seems cordial and polite, but you know Sunday, so you’re able to read between the lines; he holds the same reservations you do, subtly responding to the doubts that you, too, had expertly hidden into the verbiage of the invite you sent him, one that had differed slightly from everyone else’s. 

Something bitter twists deep inside you at the thought of how easy it is to slip back into working seamlessly with him as you did so frequently as children and early adolescents, how even after putting so much effort into distancing yourself from him, you still end up relying on him in some way, because he’s familiar, and you two know each other as well as you know yourselves.

The taste of iron sits heavy in your mouth as you file his confirmation away with the rest.

When the day of the ball finally comes, you are surprised—one, to find out there are so many Heirs (and these are just the ones that have agreed to be here, there are still more in Amphoreus), and two, because they’re actually… nice?

Well, most of them are. At the very least, none of them seem to be outright threatening, like Lady Kafka. The first one you meet is a spry child with bright red hair and a blinding smile who introduces themself as Heir Tribios, but insists on being called Tribbie. Their manner of referring to themself in plurality is a bit… odd, but you don’t dwell on it too much—you’re certain Veritas and Dan Heng are already doing that for you.

Tribbie then introduces you to a well-built man decorated in countless battle scars and a warrior’s regalia. You’re a bit pleased to find out that this is King Mydeimos; you have a high level of respect for leaders who have actually fought to protect their empire. Though he’s the sitting ruler of Amphoreus, you come to learn quickly that he doesn’t consider himself higher than the other Heirs, and governs the kingdom equally with them. 

You find yourself quite taken with all of the Chrysos Heirs. After getting past her initial wall of wariness (that you can’t really blame her for, given your own hesitance), Aglaea proves to be a warm, comforting presence whose honesty is refreshing and appreciated by someone in your position. Anaxagoras can hold a conversation with you of such high caliber that you haven’t experienced with almost anyone before, perhaps not even Veritas. Castorice’s sweet nature comes through to you even with the distance she insists upon keeping, and you find yourself smiling to yourself every time she eagerly approaches one of the many animals kept on the palace grounds. You also somehow always get dragged into Mydei and Phainon’s banter, finding yourself laughing yourself breathless at the two’s antics, which you end up wrapped up in when they argue around you, refusing to budge from their places at either side of you, for some reason.

They’re the center of your attention throughout the entire ball—so much so that you don’t even notice Aventurine’s arrival, or perhaps, even more egregious, you don’t notice Sunday’s arrival.

Perhaps, if there weren’t so many of them bombarding you, you would be able to take a step back and realize that the opposite is true: you’re the center of their attention. They seem to be switching between occupying your focus, leaving you oblivious to the way Aglaea and Anaxa speak in hushed whispers to each other behind your back, a dark cunning revealing itself in their eyes, or the way Phainon and Mydei stand just a bit too close to you, closer than any other ruler present in the room who’s been familiar with you for years would dare to stand. With her distance, you don’t notice the way Castorice wards off anyone else at the ball who tries to approach you, or the way Tribbie distracts onlookers by eagerly introducing themself and answering questions about the vast kingdom of Amphoreus.

But you do notice Veritas standing in a secluded corner of the ballroom, willingly conversing with Sunday and Aventurine.

Terror is a frigid, biting thing as it courses through your veins—but you hardly have time to process it when Phainon is already placing a hand on the small of your back, inquiring about the palace’s grand gardens that he’s heard so much about and guiding you away from Aglaea and Anaxa before the words “fated one” can reach your ears.

I would like to start by saying how amazing it was to see Lukey Newts out and about last night looking 🔥 and rocking those emotional support curls 🥵. To be honest it was more than enough to make me look past anything else. Oh the curls 😍

But I do know that last night was a shock to the system for many. We went from not seeing Luke and Antonia interact with each other at all since the end of July to ALOT last night. They were popping everywhere. I saw so many extreme reactions and to be honest, we gotta be better guys. This is why I think it’s important to take a step back and look at everything as a big picture and use a few different lenses I listed below (and make sure you stick around for #4 because it’s the most important):

1. Seeing them last night doesnt negate everything that happened the last 7 months. Where have they been? Why hasn’t she posted him? Why did they spend the holidays apart? Why did he clean his SEO? So many questions with answers that don’t add up to a serious relationship.

2. This was not a relationship hard launch. If there was a launch plan, I 100% believe he would’ve “soft launched” in a way with pap pics getting caught on a date and in a natural setting. Or even something subtle on social media. They know how the fans perceive her and their “relationship” and they would not have just dropped a bombshell on eveyone. To top it off, out of all his SM posts today - none of them include any sight or mention of her. So what was the point of HL-ing?

3. I wanna start this one by saying I don’t think anyone in this situation should receive any hate for how we decided to perceive and accept things BUT I’m ngl I’m gonna have a lot of thoughts if L&A are together and those thoughts aren’t just aimed at Luke. Everyone has been complicit in the narrative that brought us here - Luke, Nic, Shondaland, Ryan, etc. They know what discussed online and they knew back in August how people were interpreting things so they’ve had months to set the record straight and launch any relationships. Polin is the B-ton moneymaker and that’s because of the fans. I refuse to believe all these people would be complicit in stringing along and alienating the fans. (And for the record - no matter how this plays out I will remain a fan of both because I love them both and I love Polin.)

4. MOST IMPORTANTLY:

Why are we so quick to jump to this relationship but we denounce Nic and Jake? You can say because Jake is gay (yes I believe this) but truly we have NO PROOF of that. He hasn’t said it. She hasn’t said it. We’re going fully off context clues. For all we know he could be bi, pan, or as straight as they come and they could be in the most blissfully happy relationship in the world. (Not true IMO but my point is that we don’t know anything beyond what is shown to us.) So let’s review the following:

Nic & Jake: have been to non professional events together and posted online with friends, have posted each other on Instagram, comment on each others posts, attend professional events together, and have been papped on “dates”

Luke & Antonia: caught kissing over a year ago, attended some professional events together, haven’t been seen together in 7 months, and like all insta posts in a suspiciously fast and consistent manner.

If you were to ask me I’d say Nic and Jake are the ones in a real relationship (if i knew nothing about the outside factors). So if we are willing to sit here and give Nic and Jake the benefit of the doubt and say it’s not real and wait it out then we should be able to do the same now with Luke and Antonia until we get more concrete evidence. Because truly last night was nothing different than what has been presented to us by Nic and Jake. The only difference is the internalized feelings and people have surrounding Antonia and her existence.

I stand by what I’ve always said - until Nic or Luke (or an official source on their behalf) say “boyfriend” or “girlfriend,” those terms do not apply.

What this fandom has taught me is that if I’m ever wrongfully accused of a crime, I do not want 95% of you on my jury because you all jump to conclusions so fast and don’t do any critical thinking.

Next time something happens and you find yourself about to spiral, take a tip from a wise friend of mine and give it 24 hours because I PROMISE you things will become clearer. 😉
