Every time I think about getting hardcore back into star wars I almost immediately then see a post all about how Anakin is the worst most abusive person in the world and I'm just *sighs* maybe I won't then!

Oh dear god.

Ok I have (some) good news on that count, but also we’re going to have to talk a bit about real life slavery for this so everyone consider themselves warned.

Speaking of humans at least, though maybe other species of humanoid would be different (I doubt it they’re very human shaped in SW), we’re actually pretty terrible meat animals. Like there’s just not enough meat on us to be super useful—food input to meat output is extremely inefficient (we, and also any other sentient species with similar brain development requirements, grow up incredibly slowly). Most animals just don’t naturally evolve to be good for eating—hence why we had to selectively breed all the farmed animals to grow bigger. Even at their height, I seriously doubt the zygerrian empire had the time (hundred of years at least of a deliberate breeding program—probably more considering sentient species in Star Wars have much longer lifetimes and less offspring than chickens) or resources to selectively breed sentient people in that way (horrifying thought for the day)

The slavery would absolutely tie in, but more likely in dealing with the immense labor cost of raising all that grain just to feed to animals. This is where a lot of (particularly chattel slavery) enslaved labor has been used in real life: to raise and harvest difficult crops (sugar cane, cotton, etc)

(This part is about 100x ickier to say than the canabalism ideas but,) Slavery is economically motivated, and while enabling incredible cruelty is part of the structure that sustains it, it’s not very efficient to murder too many people, or else you have to continually add to the population from outside (see sugar plantations where the average turn over for the entire enslaved (mostly male) worker population was 7 years, eg people didn’t live more than 7 years because the conditions were so awful). Kinda requires an expanding empire, like the European empires at the time, to sustain (at least I think I should mention I’m not a historian), so while maybe the “zygerrian empire” could’ve done that for a bit, I still think it’s extremely unlikely, and especially unlikely that eating sentient enslaved people could’ve happened on any large scale.

Anyway yeah this has been an awful topic and honestly my two extremely cool American history teachers were probably not expecting me to use things they taught me to talk about Star Wars cat people but honestly I think she’d just be glad to know people were paying attention

The Cat People-Agriculture Problem

Writing about Zygerria and realized you know what a massive problem with cat people is?

They're obligate carnivores. Raising animals is incredibly energy intensive. how the hell are they going about creating a food surplus of meat sufficient for a population of carnivores to create city or city-like settlements? Like you're going to need agriculture to feed all those mice or whatever, but what motivation to your ancient hunter gatherer cat people have to start cultivating anything? What do they care about seeds? maybe they notice that more mice hang out in certain grassy areas? The connection is just so much less direct than for if you're actually going to be eating the cultivated grass yourself

Do they have giant mouse colonies alongside giant grain fields? is it like they let the mice out to graze before herding them back into their enclosures? have they bred giant mice like how chickens got way bigger in the 20th century? I guess they could eat space-chickens too. maybe they farm several kinds of birds. but that's still a lot of grain. or maybe there's a lot of fish. Fish might be the answer here the picture of Zygerria from space shows quite a bit of ocean. Maybe it's just impossible to have a cat people city that isn't on the coast?

Do poor cat people have to eat more plants than they should and deal with stomach ulcers all the time (my sister's cat used to get ulcers from eating too much grass) as well as the general effects of poor nutrition? Honestly that would fit into zygerria's entire everything and also very much real life food deserts.

I just feel like everybody talking about cat girls is not sufficiently considering the ramifications ok bye gonna go world build giant mouse farms or smth

haha yea 😭 messed up some niche details in my star wars fic and got absolutely lambasted in the comments lmao i never wanted to post sw again 😭 but then i realized i just needed to find the gay people and it all worked out lol

I would say I'm retired from smut writing lmao 😭 but idk maybe something will change. i am not typing out the gory details of everything ive written on here I have no desire to get cancelled again

No but I do write AU fusions <3 my favorite stupid insane one was a James Potter/Lily Evans Batman universe fusion fic it lowkey ate but I had to hide it because I was embarrassed at the quality and the very just-took-sociology-101 level of social commentary 😭

all-time...,, whew. rn it's definitely Codywan. Idk if I have an all-time transcendent one that I always come back to tbh. I'm really more into platonic relationship dynamics than ships tbh

15. What's a WIP you'd like to finish but doubt you ever wilI?

God, I have one re-writing the Zygerria arc where Ahsoka sneaks onto the mission instead of being incorporated into it that i want to finish SO BAD. when the ties that bind is done I'm really going to hammer it out because I do love it but its kind of a monster.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I'm good with dialogue and characterization and, on occasion, plot twists.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I hate writing filler. I can't do it for the life of me, which means I also tend to have pretty poor pacing. im also bad at ending scenes which is why many times my chapters will end with my characters falling asleep 😭

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

jesus fucking christ it's so hard. doing it for Mando'a is hard and it's not even a real language. Usually I just go for the itallics but sometimes it's nice to have the immersion (which only works if you do it perfectly lol)

20. Favorite fic you've ever written?

cheating and doing my fav from my three main fandoms:

Under Freezing Stars because it was the first long piece of fiction I ever finished, and without it I would not have made three of my best friends in the whole world so its very special and important to me

if you never bleed you're never gonna grow is one where I feel like I did something interesting and innovative with form and perspective and I'm really proud of it. I feel like a lot of times as a fic writer you can feel like what you're doing is repetitive and this one felt really unique to me!

The Ties That Bind is still a WIP but I honestly really love it and have been loving the process of writing it a lot. it's the first WIP I started posting without having at least 75% of the fic completed and it's been really interesting to see what a different process it is pre-writing vs writing as you go! Also, I love the plot contrivance that makes up the premise, I love working out all the little butterfly effects of that decision, I love making it gay and poly and I love writing a million different perspectives!!!

for the wip title game!! unfortunately this one has very little to it by way of coherent prose since i basically just created a file for the idea so i can’t share a snippet. the bare bones premise is that i really really like imagining anidala doing all sorts of crazy bdsm and it’s mostly healthy but since anakin is involved it does of course become Bad Coping sometimes. and the zygerria arc is full of horrible implications of sexual violence, something i do not think anakin would be coping well with at all on top of him just not coping well with those happenings in general. and my basic idea was anakin coming home after all that and basically throwing himself into having increasingly extreme and terrible cope-sex with padmé until it becomes way too obvious what he’s doing and padmé is just like “no i am not sexually roleplaying your trauma with you can we please just talk about it.” it’s padmé pov because the idea is her slowly putting it together until it becomes so disturbingly obvious she has to be like NOPE NOPE NOPE. in general i really like playing with the concept of anakin getting into headspaces where he slips into viewing every relationship as hierarchical including his marriage and i’m very into writing padmé observing that and dealing with all the ways it makes her feel and this is just how that might affect their sex life (because it absolutely would)

Anyways I can't sleep so fuck it Obi-Wan post Kenobi series if Disney weren't cowards and let him actually have scars & disabilities with everything he's gone through. Also he's trans.

Rambling about his scars & disabilities under the cut:

The cane & limp come from his battle with Dooku in Attack of The Clones when he gets his leg sliced with a lightsaber because there's no way he walked away from that so easily.

The scar on his chest is from when he literally got shot at the start of the Deception Arc. His death was fake but him getting shot wasn't!

The back scars are from the Zygerria Arc because we saw him get whipped and tortured on screen. He definitely has scars from that

The burn scars are very clearly from Vader setting him on fire. He's not walking away from that without scars! He's severely burned!

While the blindness & deafness in his right ear are caused by the burns, as well as the tremors, his hearing loss in his left ear is not! Obi-Wan is often very close to explosions during The Clone Wars and being that close is definitely going to damage his hearing. Therefore he would have hearing loss, prior to the burns he already had hearing loss in his right ear too, in fact it was the same as in his left. Now he's completely deaf in that ear, he can still somewhat hear things in that ear but it is entirely muffled to the point he can't always make out what's being said.

We see that in canon Obi-Wan does in fact suffer from PTSD, as the Kenobi Series clearly depicts. But alongside this he deals with both Depression and Anxiety as well.

I also think he might be on the autism spectrum as well.

“You ok, there, Rex?” Fuck, he was making a scene, disturbing the meeting!

“Could I be excused, please?” He ignored the General’s question. “I’ll make sure I get up to speed before we land.” His voice did not waver as he spoke. It didn’t. Anakin only watched him for a long moment before swallowing and Rex felt distinctly like an organism under a microscope. 

“Of course.” Unfortunately, that did nothing to ease the tightness in Rex’s chest. “Just take it easy and I’ll check in with you later…”

“Thank you, General.”

Rex turned and made his leave. Putting one foot in front of the other seemed more difficult than before, like his feet were no longer attached to his body or he was drunk. Was he walking weirdly?

It took everything Rex had to walk in a straight line long enough to get out of the door. With any luck, the Generals and Cody would just let things be so that Rex could go and sit down without too much bother. 

Only, as soon as Rex crossed the threshold, his body seemed to protest that plan. 

Legs feeling like jelly, Rex didn’t quite faint. It was more of a controlled fall, if anything, until his ass was on the floor and his back propped up against the wall, legs drawn up to his chest. He thanked the force that the corridor was empty. At least he didn’t have to worry about breathing quietly, now. His chest really did hurt. 

Maybe this was a heart attack. 

Rex’s chest heaved no matter how much he tried to stop it and his eyes watered, tears threatening to spill over. He wanted desperately to be sick, if only for some relief, but didn't’ fancy cleaning his bucket out after that.

This is my. Hmhmhmhm this is my massive fix-it au for clone wars era that really got away from me and is haunting my google docs atm. Premise is loll what if Anakin's slave chip never got removed and the jedi didn't know about it but anakin thinks they do and the angst kicked up in between all this unreliable narrating and war trauma is what turns out to be the galaxy's saving grace *cartwheels* here's a link to the prompt of the post that inspired the fic to begin with.

I've picked up the clone wars plot line at the citadel and now we've worked up to zygerria where the vibes took flight and abandoned me so I'm trying to forage up the energy to write and plan stuff out as dramatically as this arc deserves but it's super hard right now and I have a short attention span 😭 I do have a plan to get back into the thick of it but I'm such a horrible procrastinator that it might take some effort to actually execute. rip me.

I figured I could use a post like this since my WIPs are getting a little out of hand as of late :D

Like Puppets on a Broken String - My attempt at a Fix It, that roughly follows the events of RotS all the way to potentially RotJ. Obikin Endgame, but a bit of slowburn. Definitely dramatic.

Also my first work in the Obikin fandom and therefore very special to me!

Status: Currently on a bit of a hiatus, but still very much close to my heart.

Heel - Sith!Obikin AU with Emperor Kenobi. Started out as a quick drabble to get the image of Obi-Wan in white imperial robes commanding his hound Vaderkin out of my mind, has since become my Kinktober 2023 project and grown a plot.

Status: Sort of abandoned. The vibes/energy has moved to Club Starkiller

Hide the Pain

“And that is all that happened on Zygerria and Kadavo?” Mace Windu asked.

Anakin did his best to keep his face completely plain, stoic. When he spoke, he tried to fill his voice with respect, “Yes, Master.” Though that word: master. It was like curdled milk on his tongue, going down to fester in his belly.

Thankfully he hadn’t had to use that word around the queen, but it had been everywhere. Nothing but slavery.

“Thank you, Skywalker. You’re free to go.”

He bowed, and then left the Council chambers, feeling sick enough to collapse, or to perhaps go back in there and tell them all off for sending him, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and Rex into that mess.

It wasn’t fair! And why him? Their answer before sending him to Zygerria was that he was the one who had discovered the missing Togrutas, so he had insight on the mission. By insight they had probably also meant that he knew how the whole slave business worked.

So Anakin had tried to pretend that he was alright with playing the part of a slaver, had told himself that master was a good title for him. But really, being forced to make his Padawan dress like that, and presenting her to the slaver queen. It was one of the many heavy burdens he now carried with him.

Ahsoka had mentioned that she would be in the Room of a Thousand Fountains, meditating, trying to center herself after all they’d been through. So he decided to leave her in peace and quiet. Obi-Wan was in the Halls of Healing. Anakin decided that’s where he would go. He couldn’t go back to his cluttered room and pretend everything was fine, couldn’t go back to Padmé’s apartments or her office. She would touch him, expect him to touch her. And he wanted to. Blast, he wanted to, and yet… Queen Miraj Scintel was stuck in his head like some infection.

He couldn’t see his wife. Not yet.

Truthfully, Anakin wasn’t sure he wanted to see anyone, but he knew Obi-Wan had been tortured, so it was only right to visit him.

He was in a white tunic and pants when he entered the room he’d been given. He was surprised to see that Rex was there as well. Both looked weary, but most of their wounds were now light scars.

Anakin forced a smile onto his face, even while his blood boiled inside and his stomach churned.

Remain calm. Don’t let them see.

Obi-Wan started getting up to greet him, but Anakin waved it off.

“No, lay still. Rest.”

Rex saluted him. “General.”

Anakin saluted back. “Surprised to see you here, Rex.”

“Well, since I was so involved with the mission the Council thought I should stay close.”

“I’m glad. I hear the Halls of Healing have much better care than the military hospital.”

Rex leaned back, putting his arms behind his head. He shifted in his bed, and let out a sigh, eyes closing contentedly.

“That we can definitely agree on.”

Anakin went and patted his shoulder, and then went to Obi-Wan. He took a seat by his bed.

“How are you feeling?”

Obi-Wan grinned at him, though it was a thin, weary thing, nothing but a mask. “Seeing as I no longer feel like I got shot, whipped, and beaten, I think I’ll be fine.”

Anakin shook his head. “I’m sorry, Master. I was leading the mission, and—”

Obi-Wan held up his hand. “Stop. Don’t carry that guilt with yourself. I took risks I thought necessary, and well, I paid for them.”

“That’s not your fault either.”

“Perhaps you’re right,” Obi-Wan said in a somewhat bland, noncommittal tone as he leaned back against his pillows. “How’s Ahsoka?”

“Mostly unhurt. She was treated for dehydration, but she’ll be fine. She’s meditating.”

“Good, and you?”

Anakin paused. His heart beat wildly, and for a few moments he worried that his former master could hear it. Why were they even keeping up this charade? None of them were truly fine. Anakin could sense it, could feel Obi-Wan’s shame and guilt. He was sure that if he closed his eyes and focused he would be able to see Kadavo, see glimpses and brief flashes of the tortures he had gone through.

He tried to force a smile on his face, but he felt it was more like a grimace. So then he kept his features stone cold. His insides boiled, and burned.

“I’m fine.”

“Anakin—”

“I’m fine,” he growled.

“Mm hmm.” Obi-Wan peeked around Anakin, and asked, “Captain, do you perhaps feel well enough to give us some privacy?”

Rex peeped open an eye and then got up with only a little difficulty. “I was thinking of taking a walk anyway, General.”

“Very good. Enjoy your walk.”

After Rex left, Anakin sighed, lowering his head. He didn’t want to face his former master.

“Anakin, on Zygerria… what happened to you?”

“Nothing.”

“Nothing? I sense much anguish for nothing to have happened.”

Anakin swallowed roughly, and shook his head. “Just forget it.” His voice was gruff, not at all the hard phrik ore like he’d wished to display.

“Look at me,” Obi-Wan pleaded, voice gentle. “Please, Anakin.”

“I should go,” he said, getting up and making to leave.

“I want to help you!”

“You can’t.”

Anakin left, insides like a hot furnace, like fire and lava deep within a planet’s core. Darkness festered in it, and he wanted to rip his very skin off.

He wandered, blind to where he walked, until he found himself outside Yoda’s meditation room.

Before he could knock, he heard Yoda say, “Come in.”

Anakin entered.

“Troubled, you are,” Yoda said as Anakin went to take a seat across from him. The blinds were half-open, letting in some of Coruscant’s light.

“Yes,” he admitted.

“Questions, have you?”

“Why, Master?” he asked, all of the hardness he’d tried to build around him melting, liquid ore bursting forth. What he was left with was a broken voice, and tears building up in his eyes, the sensation pinching at his sinuses.

“The will of the Council, it was.”

“Yes, but why? Why send me? Why send any of us? You know my past. How could you do this to me! How could the Council—!”

Yoda held up a small green hand.

“Peace, young one.”

Anakin snarled at him, but quieted himself.

“Against this mission, I was. Hurt you it would, I feared. This pain you feel, from things you did not speak to the Council of, is it?”

Anakin nodded.

“What happened to me…” He clenched his jaw, and turned away. He couldn’t admit it. Not to anyone, not even to himself. “It shouldn’t have… I wish…”

“Know this, I do. Sorry, I am, as we all should be.”

“You think the rest of the Council is going to feel that!” Anakin shouted, getting to his feet, waving his arm about. “In the end, they agreed to send me there. Did they aim to hurt me? Is that what’s going on?”

“Young one—”

“Don’t call me that!” Anakin snarled. He knew he was young, yet he didn’t feel it. Not after all the horrors he’d been through, and not after his… his nights spent with the queen. “There is something wrong here,” he admitted. “With—with the Council, with all of it, if the leading vote was that I, a former... slave, should go on that kind of mission.”

“Insight, they thought you had.”

“Yeah, sure. Insight into all the pain and torture, and how humiliating and debasing it is! I had to expose my own Padawan to that! It—it dredged up things I wanted to forget.”

“But forget the past, we must not. Accept it, and move forward.”

“How am I supposed to accept it when it’s shoved in my face like that? When I’m forced to… When I’m…” Anakin trailed off, holding in a sob. Part of his voice came out as a whimper.

“Young Skywalker, these experiences you had, part of you they are now.”

“I don’t want them to be,” he ground out.

“For us to decide, that is not. To truly be a Jedi, accept who we are, accept the past, we must. Trust in the Force.”

Trust in the Force. Trust in the Force? Was that the only answer he was going to get? Anakin trusted in the Force, day after day, and yet hadn’t it betrayed him? Hadn’t the Jedi betrayed him?

“Forgive me, Master,” he said, bowing, needing to be alone. “I should not have troubled you.”

Despite Yoda’s admonitions, Anakin left.

Time slipped past him in agonizing moments, every noise setting him on edge, making him want to fight, freeze, or simply run and hide. He wanted to lash out at everyone, at the universe. He held it in, letting it rot in him with the blackness Miraj Scintel had put in him with her touches.

Hours later he found himself at a bar, not even sure where he was. He just knew he needed another drink.

Wobbling in his seat, he called over the bartender and ordered another shot of whatever it was he was putting in his body—spotchka, maybe. The bartender began to refuse, and Anakin just passed him more credits, hoping that would be enough to stay his worries.

A shot of blue liquid that glowed and twinkled in the dim light was passed to him, and Anakin drank it greedily. The alcohol was poison, but why not add to the poison already there? It was already going to kill him, surely.

His comlink beeped, someone wanting to speak with him. He ignored it, but a few minutes later, it went off again.

Anakin turned from the bar, and answered.

“Anakin, where are you?”

“Padmé?” he questioned, voice not wanting to come out, but it did so anyway.

“I heard you got back from your mission hours ago. Where are you? Why haven’t you visited?” Suddenly, a brawl started up in front of him, and there was cheering and yelling. “Are you—are you in a bar?” she asked.

“Does it matter?”

“Yes! I want to take care of you.”

“I don’t think anyone can.”

“Anakin, come home. Please. I want you to talk to me. What happened on that mission?”

“Nothing.”

“Anakin, I—”

He broke the connection, sneered at the bar fight, and went back to his drink. Yet it wasn’t enough to hide his pain.
