Tales of Berseria Blogging, Part 1 of Many

With yesterday’s stream done, time for me to go play on my copy and get the ball rolling on this!  Also, I needed something to clear away the salt from today’s episode of Zesty X.  Behind a cut for obvious reasons!

Okay, can I just say I’m super happy that they got to keep the vocal version of FLOW’s BURN for the localization?  Also the song is so Velvet.  Like, you get this really pretty and kind of sad piano/violin intro, and then BAM!!  Electric guitar all the rock, like, I laugh a little every time and think “Oh Velvet” every time BURN comes up on my playlist.  Don’t get me wrong, I love this song, and I totally need to learn it better so I can properly sing this at karaoke - it’s a bit faster than what I normally sing, haha.

Also, bought all the DLCs so expect some really silly screen shots in the future.  Since I did the livestream yesterday in Japanese, going to flip this over to English to hear the cast.

Okay, I recognize Velvet.  *Googles*  Oh, shit, Cristina Vee?  No wonder she managed both sides of Velvet so well.  And knowing what comes after, damn, cheerful Big Sis Velvet hurts a bit to hear.  Like, she’s so cheerful and happy . . . and knowing she’s about to lose literally everything she’s ever loved and cared for in life is painful.  Shit, I’m going to need the tissues for this aren’t I?

I know I mentioned this in stream, but Velvet quoting Arthur like this is really reminding me of Lloyd quoting Dirk’s Dwarven Vows in Symphonia.

Okay, gotta say, getting evasions and actually like Not Dying is a bit easier once you’ve managed to break past muscle memory - I was hitting X to block so freaking often the first few hours of that stream, lol.

Velvet naming the more docile hybrids for prickleboars will never be not cute.  As a matter of fact, prologue Velvet will never be not sweet and cute to me.  She’s just trying so hard to take care of her younger brother and provide for their little family, you know?  And the look on her face when Arthur says he won’t be home for dinner right when she was thinking of making him his favorite . . . the disappointment there kills me.

I swear, fandom has made Arthur’s bird metaphor absolutely hilarious - I keep on thinking of that shit post where Arthur tells it to Sorey and Mikleo and the pair of them go off on the nerdiest tangent possible and Arthur is all “Stop ruining my metaphor!”

You know, this scene where Laphicet asks Velvet to leave out the spinach and knowing what’s coming next kills me - he’s literally asking her to make him his favorite dish or at least, something that he really likes for his last meal.  I . . . I . . .

I mean, the conversation about relationships for both of them feel a little forced, but at the same time, I feel like Laphicet is trying to make sure Velvet will be alright after he makes his sacrifice.  And that really hits me right in the feels, y’know?

And Laphicet asking to sleep next to her - he knows it’s his last night alive and he just wants to spend it with his sister who loves him so much and has spent every moment taking care of him, I just, my god, he really is Too Good For This World.

Also, some excellent voice acting from Cristina Vee throughout all of this - I can hear Velvet’s worry and concern and frustration during these opening hours of the game.

Also, Laphicet’s line as he hugs her for the last time . . . just kill me now, Bamco, just kill me now.

Oh geez, I just realized, that the villagers around Velvet after she goes on her rampage includes that shopkeeper and Niko.  Like, Velvet literally lost everything that night.  Everything.  No wonder she’s out for Artorius’s blood.  Also, I’m pretty sure she’s a Lord of Calamity, and a therian (same creature type as the lizardmen and werewolves and such in Zestiria).

That said to quote the fandom: Fuck Artorius and his Throne.

Seres, you didn’t actually think you could get me by using Lailah’s Martial and Malak/Seraphic artes did you?  Like, come now, Seres.  The only worst choice would have been to use Mikleo’s!  That said, I do wish that Seres was playable during this section of the game - it would have been fun to be able to play using Lailah’s artes again.

Since we all know my distaste for Velvet’s default costume, I switched it up a bit once I got to open up the menu and turn on all the DLC costumes.  What do you guys think?  I always did say she’d look better in a corset!  ;)

I’m really enjoying Rokurou and Magilou’s dialogue too.  The English delivery for their lines are great, I love the sing-songy delivery for Magilou and the mostly serious for Rokurou.

Gotta say I love how the game lampshades Rokurou wearing Stormhowl even as he says he needs to find a weapon.

I think I’ve figured out why I hate Teresa within 2 sentences of her speaking - it’s the way she just commands Laphicet 2.0 and calls him by a number (not a name) like he’s a robot.

It’s actually rather interesting to hear the NPCs talk about daemons like they’re dragons - can’t be purified, can’t be saved, it’s an irreversible change.  But they can be purified in Zestiria so what happened?

Also, her loss of her sense of taste outside of a taste for blood . . . it’s interesting, and certainly fits her theme of revenge.

So, leaving off today outside that cave where you meet Dyle for the first time.  So far, it’s pretty fun, and hell, it’s a lot easier to see hits coming when the camera isn’t zoomed out like it is for multiplayer, lol.  Also, I can tell I’m really going to have fun beating up on Oscar.  I won’t be surprised if they give him more of Sorey’s artes - which will be fun to fight and evade.

Nerd here: If I was Bruno's girlfriend, I would be the corniest, nerdiest girlfriend ever! Lmao -I would introduce him to all the coolest, latest video games and we'll have so much fun playing them! 😊 -I would draw and paint pictures for him all the time.
