Does anyone else have that one thing that always bothers them when they take a selfie, but no one else would ever notice? For me, I always notice that one of my eyes is slightly more closed than the other. Why I Walk - American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

-I wear green beads for my personal struggle.

-I wear blue beads because I support the cause.

-I wear teal beads for my loved ones that struggle.

-I wear purple beads because I lost a friend.

I was diagnosed with depression 15 years ago and I walk because it gives me back any sense of hope that I may have lost throughout the years. Walking, raising funds, and volunteering for American Foundation for Suicide Prevention gives me a sense of pride in that I am fighting each and every day to make it through. There are many obstacles I have overcome that have made me the individual I am today. While I know that there will be more obstacles to overcome in the future, I believe that AFSP’s mission and their resources will help me to keep fighting and to never give up hope.

I also walk for those close to me that I have lost, not just to honor their memory, but also to honor their lives. While they may no longer be here physically, they will never be gone from my thoughts. The memories, along with my never-ending love for them, are reason enough for me to encourage those that are struggling to reach out for the help that they may need to make it through.

It is okay to ask for help. It is okay to admit that you are struggling. It is okay to use any and all resources that you may need to make it through these tough times. Always remember that your fight to make it through is worth it; YOU are worth it!

Taking life one day at a time is more than okay! It allows you to focus on making sure that today is as good of a day as possible. Whether you’re using the one day at a time method to work towards a specific goal, or you’re using it as a mantra to get you to the next day, you should be proud of yourself for putting forth the effort needed for getting through the day.

In my own experience, I have learned that I am less stressed if I take life one day at a time. I am a lot more content with doing everything I need to do today if I am not worrying about what needs to be done next week.

No matter what your reasoning may be behind using this method, it is important to do anything and everything that you feel works for you.
