SHAKES YOU how do you draw taurs. i need help i genuinley cant wrap my head around the anatomy of it. optionally i need help with fat taurs but any kind of taur is okay
Ooh, I love these sorta questions!!!
So there are two main things folks usually struggle with when it comes to drawing taurs as a whole. 1, they struggle with quadrupedal anatomy and 2. connecting the humanoid upper body to the quadrupedal lower body. Obviously there's no shame in either of these things, drawing four legged animals, especially if you're more used to the anatomical structure of something more humanoid is quite tough! And finding the sweet spot where humanoid and quadruped meet to make a taur is a bit of a struggle for folks who're still figuring it out.
So! The first thing you wanna do really is just familiarize yourself with quadrupedal anatomy. Look at the skeleton of the creature you're trying to taur and see how things like their limbs bend differently or how they're just differently naturally posed as compared to someone who walks upright.
This is a very simplified skeleton of a cat, but you can pretty immediately see how differently everything bends. And I'm not saying it's something you have to perfectly master to know how to draw a taur (especially when you get to drawing fat taurs), but i highly recommend becoming familiar with how a quadrupedal body is structured, the silhouette of most animals is quite misleading! And absolutely use reference!
Heck, our first go at drawing taur Riley was super heavily referenced (I'll even share the ref image if anyone is interested!), and this still came out real jank. Practice makes perfect!
As for connecting the upper body to the lower body, this is a little more subjective and up to you, but I'll lay out some general guidelines.
Generally speaking, you wanna put the humanoid torso where the base of the neck is, the front of the torso kinda merging with the rest of the taur body just after the tummy, basically just before the crotch starts.
As for the back, you're gonna want to shoot for just shy of where the butt starts, waist having curved back outwards. It gets a little awkward if you go higher or lower than that. And obviously, you wanna make sure the torso is firmly planted in the center of where the neck should be, ehehe.
That's pretty much the basics though! As always, i recommend looking at how your favorite taur artists draw the creatures and studying off of that! Familiarize yourself with quadrupedal anatomy, and use reference!! You will absolutely get it down with time. I will absolutely cover fat taurs if there's interest in it, and ofc, lemme know if there's anything I missed or need to go over! I hope this helps!
#hat answers#my art#my ocs#Riley Foxglove#design talk#tutorials#taurposting#i imagine this one'll find a much more niche audience but i really do hope its helpful!#these are the two things that definitely gave me grief when i was first figuring out how to Taur#but im sure theres plenty more i missed!#never be afraid to ask about stuff!!!!!!

Why do you hate people "copying" your art style? Pretty sure people don't do it with malicious intent and probably for practice
When did I said I hated it baby😭 I said that if you reference my art HEAVILY it would be nice if I was just credited somewhere 🫶🏽
The only time I’m really uncomfortable or frustrated is when my stuff is very clearly referenced (bar for bar, like hold the pieces up side by side VERY CLEARLY referenced and I’m not talking about poses or compositions bc ofc people don’t own stuff like that. I don’t like assuming things or jumping to conclusions but sometimes it’s right there without a doubt) and I’m not really… acknowledged at all..? Even then I’m not gonna rly cause a scene over it and just curate my space so I don’t have to see it 😭
I understand that I’m an artist with a larger following on twt, so the last thing I want to do is badger folks with smaller followings who do heavily reference my stuff w/o credit because I know it’s sick and twisted (for ME to get on other folks /srs) and once again inspo is how folks grow. That’s why I just keep it moving and stay in my lane👆🏽 I’m still human though so I think I’m allowed to feel and express my feelings on the matter if asked though, just like in the ask abt this previously.
#I’m flattered and honored when someone who uses me as a reference identifies me as their reference though!#I really don’t like assuming the ppl who don’t acknowledge me are referencing me though-#-without crazy on the nose proof though bc it feels like some cocky big headed shit and I’m just trying to chill#anyway please don’t come at me with this energy again and if you do do it off anon bc this is rude as fuck to say to someone#who hasn’t called nobody names and literally wants no smoke at all#but yeah I said I’m uncomfortable but I’m not the boss of anyone’s life#you do you and imma do me baby#ask#once again it’s for SUPER OBVIOUS STUFF. I don’t like going around and assuming everyone wants to draw like me or whatever#on another note if you read the past ask I like did not say ANYTHING abt what u asked abt so idk wtf ur on w/ this ask bru😭

Hey! Hope this doesn't make you uncomfortable, if it does plz ignore it. You're genuinely my favorite fanartist on this site! Everything you've posted for sandman has hit so hard and has me running to reblog. Your poses are so natural and cool looking, do you use references?? What kind of practices do you do?
I??? ahh????!!! Thank you that is so sweet,,, ⁄(⁄ ⁄•⁄-⁄•⁄ ⁄)⁄
I have MANY folders of references, yes! For poses, I'll thumbnail to try to figure out the basic pose I want, gesture and proportion. Maybe some shape design. Then I compile a few refs that match my thumbnail in some way and keep referencing them while sketching. That entails piecing things together like how anatomy connects, how folds fold, etc, and finding stuff I want to borrow like new shape habits to define/simplify volumes. This is my favourite process because when I run into a problem, or when something looks unappealing, I'll look for how other artists do it, or how it looks in pictures, and I'll have learnt something new!
I do studies for sure, but not as much as I'd like to, haha! I started to find that I got pretty good at copying pictures without learning much at all (• ▽ •;) So, if I want to study, I'll try to set a goal or something, and sometimes that's as simple as picking a small thing I want to actively improve on while copying a photograph that looks cool.
Breaking out of the flow to remind myself to use refs is kinda hard, and honestly, I won't when I'm sketching for fun bc it's extra work :p But all my favourite art was heavily referenced from many different artworks and photographs. And I retain that knowledge! Which is something that doesn't really happen while studying! Like, I'm not qualified to give art advice, but refs are magic bean stalk seeds for art and I think everyone who's trying to actively learn should use them as much as possible ✨
(I hope this answers the question? Feel free to send an ask/dm me if it doesn't ofc ^^)
#long post but u open pandora's box when you ask me to talk about art ok#also#thank you once again for the compliments 😭❤️

Ok I didn’t want to write a 10 page essay in the notes so I’ll just show screenshots
The first one, I didn’t report it or anything because the colors are very different so it wasn’t straight up theft or heavy referencing but yes it stepped a line so I confronted them and they denied about it and lied about referencing it. I got more opinions In case I was overreacting and it was pointed out even the face markings were similar
I tried confronting them calmly and that was their response. They eventually deleted the comment but I managed to catch screenshots
The first 2 images i decided to not to do anything about because they /might/ have seen the design before but either way it wasn’t referenced in any way that should make me uncomfortable so I didn’t bring it up again
I wasn’t going to report them or anything, if they are in fact surely were banned for this I did not report them
I did confront them in dms because i realize it probably wasn’t the best to comment my suspicions on their wall.
They changed some aspects of the design but this one is basically just a redraw of someone else’s character. (In dms they did admit to doing this, after showing them this example they said “sorry.” “I won’t do it /again/.” So they did not argue that they referenced this design again
I did see this posted about an older design that they were selling in their ping chat. I don’t think the design itself was heavily referenced but the pose was flipped and the formatting was very alike, from the text lineart to the color pallete and expressions
Ofc I’m pretty sure they denied this as well and said that they had never seen that oc before, which I don’t believe, judging from these, but you can form your own opinion about that
Last of the screenshots, I only got the first half of the convo but I think now they’re banned so
They said that they didn’t know it was bad, but that is contradicted by them trying to cover it up and deny it in the first place. Basically they just didn’t know I guess but I find that hard to believe due to their past responses
Over all they were pretty nice about it and cooperative. I don’t know /exactly/ why they were banned, or if anyone found out they had referenced other designs a little too much, personally I think it only deserves a warning or hidden profile but yeah, that’s basically it.
Sorry about the scribbles in the first images I originally censored the screenshots when I asked for opinions in the discord

Hey, I'm searching for a post I think you made of a spanish artist's work that Araki seemed to get inspiration from for part 2 battle tendency. Would you know what tag that would be under?
I can't think of a Spanish artist I would have posted on but maybe you're thinking of either Tony Viramontes or Antonio Lopez. Viramontes had Spanish and Mexican parents and was born in LA. Lopez is Puerto Rican and moved to the US when he was a kid. Both were really successful and influential fashion illustrators and both died way too young. Araki borrows heavily from both.
I’ve posted on Lopez here: Diavolo // Avdol // Midler’s Capcom design // the Fugo & Abba pose // how the triangle pattern in Missoni knits became iconic in Jojo when Araki cribbed art Lopez’s did for the brand.
I could only find one Viramontes post I did but it’s a fave pose ref of mine: highdio.tumblr.com/post/140040005626
There’s a lot more referencing of both artists’ work throughout Part 2 and Jojo in general. Also ofc et me know if you meant something else.
#badblud#replies tag#jjba#sorry this is really detailed since I had to search my posts anyway#I'd be madder at Araki for lifting this stuff if it wasn't completely re-contextualized#hope this is helpful
