Patroclus Design WIP

The design is based on ancient Greek armour and weapons. The headcanon I have about Patroclus' main weapons being two short bronze swords (one on each side however this design only shows one) comes from the lovely fanfic series called 'It's Always Sunny(?) in Elysium' by miraculan (@ miraculan-draws) who is also on tumblr!

They, along with wolfythewitch, are who inspired me to finally get Tumblr. Their artworks are gorgeous so if you don't know them, go drop by their pages, I promise, you won't be disappointed!

Patroclus fighting pose WIP

I'm happy with his pose but his face looks off, I'll revise it but its a design based on him during the war.

Here's Achilles, however I want to make a new one that gives him more of an action pose. I'm also planning on adding their bracers, the ones you see in Hades Video Game as a nice little hint. Either way, I'm happy with how both of them turned out!

Ah, delightful of you to ask about my 'art' 💖(I know, I shouldn't scare quote that but I really don't think I'm much of a visual artist; I have the vision but not the patience to execute it!)

Well, I studied Classics in one chapter of my life. And when I got back into the Silm a year and a half ago, it reignited the part of my brain that Classics also activated.

So I recalled this famous painting of Achilles bandaging Patroclus' arm. Achilles/&Patroclus, the WOTP (Warrior OTP™) of Greek lit. Fingon/&Maedhros, the WOTP of the Silm. I made a Tumblr post about how a copy of that art with Fingon and Maedhros would be awesome and @cuarthol (once again!) encouraged me to make it happen myself. I said "no way, I can't draw that" and she said, "trace it" 😁.

That first one I did entirely with pen and watercolour pencil crayons and it's pretty messy but it's still my favourite conceptually.

For the Daeron and Maglor and Celegorm ones I used a big fat black marker for the vases and then adjusted the contrast on the scan (very sophisticated, I know).

For the Daeron and Maglor TRSB artwork (for which @lemurious wrote a wonderful fic with elements of Homer and Greek history!) I upgraded to using Pixlr for the background and tweaking it here and there to look slightly less sloppy.

The Maedhros & Maglor with Silmarils one I was pretty proud of because I didn't base it on an existing design and only used a ref photo to get the general pose of someone curled up.

The Galadriel one I was honoured to be asked to make for the Silmarillion Writers' Guild article on mythological and historical parallels for Galadriel.

Hey I was wondering if you had an arcana card in mind for Wmftd y/n? I've been thinking about it but I am coming up a blank.

Putting my respond under here.

So first I don’t think we are getting an Hypnos arcana card (Please let me be wrong 😭) I was hoping for one since that would had helped me pinpoint down how I would picture Y/N’s arcana card.

So really quick about a possible Hypnos’ arcana card. Base off the other chthonic gods, they all seemed to have a dark background (ex: Thanatos, Charon) so I feel like Hypnos would be similar in that regard, possible with a moon and stars in the background.

However I can also see him have the River Leathe in the background as well, with brighter colors as contrast to his twin.

It would have him sleeping, possibly using a sideway helmet as pillow with his arms folded on top of it as a nod toward Y/N along with the fact that even the most powerful warrior, god or moral, need to rest. Aka ‘Lord of all moral man and gods’

Maybe with as a gold boarder that resembles his belt (?) with poppies surrounded the corners. (Thanatos has butterflies on top, so I feel like the poppies would be near the bottom.)

I think it would be called ‘Rest’ or ‘Sleep’, it might have give healing bonuses. Or make foes move hella slow.

Onto Y/N’s card,

I had been looking at Achilles and Patroclus a lot for ideas since there is no Hypnos’ card.

I think with the The boarders would look like Pat & Achilles’, gold and fairly straightforward however where the horse is, I would place a Corinthian helmet ( or a pair of himantes but I had a hard time visualize it.) I would keep the wheat since I like how it looks, also war is usually a matter of resources aka grain.

Patroclus’ card is bright, almost hopeful in a sense, like the start of a battle.

Achilles is during a battle, a little more muted and with the sense that all hope lost.

So I would have Y/N’s card be after a battle, he would look exhausted, possibly regretful. His armor and himantes would be bloodied.

I keep picturing him in the Boxer at Rest pose. Maybe with his head a little more bowed. His helmet tossed to the side or between his hands.

I think a good title for his card could be:

I think his card colors would over all be darker, not the bright greens and blues of Patroclus, or the deep red and muted golds of Achilles. I think the only bright spot of color in Y/N’s card would be a little red poppy by his foot, unseen by his eyes.

His card would likely help Mel land more one hit kills.
