I genuinely wonder what the usa looks like because lisbon is a fucking dirty city. I cannot emphasise how much it smells of piss. there's dog shit everywhere cause nobody in this country will deign to bend over and pick up their dog's shit with their royal fine hands. there's an astounding lack of public bathrooms in lisbon and with the insane rise in tourism cafés are now charging 1€ even to clients so everyone pisses on the ground. when I do a tour, I take a shortcut which is just a fucking stairwell that I swear to fucking god has not been cleaned in years. that shit is limestone that looks jet black. it reeks of something that at this point i cant even say what anymore. there's trash rolling about the city. tourism is so much, there's many people in the city, it's literally impossible to collect all the trash the city is producing. it's an open air garbage disposal this city. literally every lisboner has been complaining these past couple of years that the city is filthy, it's disgusting, it smells of piss, its full of dog shit, that the portuguese are filthy fucking animals who cannot be clean, that the homeless situation makes it worse because again, homeless means bathroom-less and there's no public bathrooms. I literally have to hold my breath for 10 seconds every day I get off the ferry the smell is so unbearable.
like I cannot highlight enough how dire the situation is
AND YET every week at least one american says to me 'wow lisbon is so clean'
what the fuck is happening over there bro

The Royal Portuguese Cabinet of Reading
Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
Although founded in 1837, the construction only started in 1880 by Portuguese architect Rafael da Silva. The idea of creating the library came from a group of 43 Portuguese immigrants who wanted to spread culture and literature among the Portuguese communities living in Brazil.
It was built in neo-manueline style with a limestone exterior displaying statues of past Portuguese explorers – Pedro Alvares Cabral, Luis de Camoes, Infante D. Henrique, and Vasco da Gama.
It has a showcase collection of books – some 350,000 volumes of both foreign and national books and continues to receive about 6,000 new titles each year from Portugal. It houses some rare editions dating back nearly 500 years such as Princeps by Os Lusíadas de Camões (1572) and As Ordenações by D. Manuel (1521).

Monteiro dos Jerónimos
The Jerónimos Monastery is one of the most prominent examples of the late Portuguese Gothic Manueline style of architecture in Lisbon. It was erected in the early 1500s near the launch point of Vasco da Gama's first journey.
The construction of the monastery and church began on 6 January 1501, and was completed 100 years later. King Manuel originally funded the project with money obtained from the Vintena da Pimenta, a 5 percent tax on commerce from Africa and the Orient, equivalent to 70 kilograms (150 lb) of gold per year, with the exception of those taxes collected on the importation of pepper, cinnamon and cloves, which went directly to the Crown.
The monastery was designed in a manner that later became known as Manueline: a richly ornate architectural style with complex sculptural themes incorporating maritime elements and objects discovered during naval expeditions, carved in limestone

By DAVE LAVENDER The Herald-Dispatch [email protected]
Sep 19, 2018
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — You can step aboard a bit of maritime history starting this weekend as replicas of The Nina and Pinta — two of three ships Christopher Columbus guided from Spain to The Bahamas in 1492 — will be docked at Point Park, 113 Ann St., Parkersburg from Friday, Sept. 21 until their departure early Wednesday, morning Sept. 26.
The ships open to the general public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 through Tuesday, Sept. 25. The boats will also be making seven other Ohio River port city stops this fall through mid November.
The closest it will be to Huntington is a Friday, Nov. 9 through Monday, Nov. 18 stay at Ashland Port & Riverfront Park 50 15th St., Ashland. Other stops are: Sept. 28 through Oct. 2, at Heritage Port in Wheeling, W.Va., Oct. 4-16 at Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa., Oct. 19-23 at Marietta Harbor, Marietta, Ohio, Oct. 26-31 at Haddad Riverfront Park in Charleston, W.Va., Nov. 2-7 at City Park Dock in Gallipolis, Ohio, Nov. 9-18 at Ashland Port and Riverfront Park, and then Nov. 20-22 at Limestone Landing Park in Maysville, Ky.
This is the first stop in Ashland since 2015. The boats were last in Huntington in 2012.
The Nina replica was built first when American engineer and maritime historian John Patrick Sarsfield was hired by the Virgin Islands-based Columbus Foundation to design and construct the 15th Century Caravel in 1988. The Nina was built by hand and without the use of power tools and is considered to be the most historically correct Columbus Replica ever built.
Co-designer Jonathon Nance, a British maritime historian and lead project researcher, produced the Nina's 1,919 square foot sail plan.

Upcycling to Useful, 2020
At my old job, a bunch of acrylic glass parts are discarded and went to waste, since this small business produced mainly design industry, publicity and artistic assemblage/models, which usually requires a lot of different media in big and clear proportions. This small company even worked with famous Portuguese artist -Vhills.
How about useful crafts and art?
I took a big amount of this amazing desecrated bits home, with the permission and knowledge of my boss, i've started exploring how to make art with this media to savage everything that i could. I worked hard even at my lunch hour to bend this shapes to support mobile phones. They are perfect for your desk at your work place, maintaining several devices available to you hands free. Every single one of them is hand painted, one of a kind piece of useful art, with its unique design. Some of the bigger ones also support Kindles and iPads too ^^
This is one of my projects almost completely out of stock. I no longer work there, but i would like to know if you like this idea and, if they would let me purchase and upcycle more acrylic glass, would you like one for yourself?
i've posted about this project before, and here is a collection inspired by portuguese traditional limestone sidewalks*
thank you for reading, and hit me up in the comment section if you can, more are being posted for you to see ^^
wishing you a great week*

Green Cement: The Sustainable Alternative to Traditional Cement Production
Tumblr media
Green cement refers to cement produced through sustainable and environmentally friendly means. Traditional cement production involves quarrying, mining, and manufacturing processes that release harmful carbon emissions and pollute the air and water. In contrast, sustainable cement seeks to minimize these environmental impacts through the use of alternative raw materials and production technologies. Alternative Raw Materials One of the primary ways sustainable cement is produced is by substituting traditional raw materials like limestone with more sustainable alternatives. Industrial waste products like fly ash from coal power plants and slag from steel manufacturing are often used to partially replace limestone in sustainable cement. These industrial by-products would otherwise end up in landfills as waste. Using them in cement production diverts them from the waste stream while making better use of resources. Supplementary cementitious materials like rice husk ash and silica fume from silicon manufacturing are other common sustainable raw material substitutes. Low-Carbon Production Processes In addition to raw material substitutions, sustainable Green Cement production focuses on employing manufacturing methods that reduce carbon emissions. Traditional cement kilns rely on fossil fuels to heat ingredients to over 2500 degrees Fahrenheit, releasing large amounts of CO2. Sustainable cement production may utilize alternative fuels like waste wood or tires to reduce fossil fuel usage. Advanced kiln technologies like the suspension preheater can significantly lower energy demands and emissions during the calcining process compared to older dry-process kilns. Carbon capture and storage technology can also help trap and sequester emissions. Some innovative producers are developing carbon-neutral cement through the use of renewable energy or direct carbon mineralization during curing. Additives for Performance Enhancement Certain admixtures and mineral compounds are sometimes added to sustainable cement mixtures to enhance technical performance properties without compromising sustainability goals. Lignosulfonates from paper processing and hydroxycarboxylic acids are examples of commonly used organic additives that can improve workability, strength, and durability at low dosages. Metakaolin, a pozzolan derived from calcined clay, serves as a supplementary cementitious material and microsilica additive in some sustainable cement s, where its fine particles act as nucleation sites facilitating more complete hydration reactions. These types of additives allow producers to engineer sustainable cement blends with properties on par with or exceeding traditional varieties. Get more insights on Green Cement
