Currently reading: rereading Christine by Stephen King
Last movie: Peppermint (I’m possibly a bit obsessed with it)
Craving: warm weather. I’m a groundskeeper and I’ve been stuck inside for months. I NEED to get outside to work with plants again.

Last drink: water all the time. I drink so much water, especially at work.
Last show: untold stories of the ER
Last thing you ate: protein scramble with andouille sausage. The breakfast of champions.
Favorite color: green. Dark greens mostly, but I think they’re all nice.
Current obsession: it’s been Hannibal for the past… five or six years. At this point it’s more like a personality trait than anything else.
Unrelated obsession: Phantom of the Opera, surprise surprise. It’s mellowed out since I got into Hannibal, but I can still out trivia most people I meet irl when phantom comes up.
Any pets: one cat, one dog, and around… twenty houseplants.
Do you have a crush on anyone?: not really. I’m extremely Ace, and as introverted as they come, so I don’t have anyone I’m really interested in at the moment.
Favorite fictional character: Will Graham. Always and forever.
The last place you traveled: I don’t travel that much, honestly. I was out of the state over the weekend to visit my parents, but the last time I went on a real trip was going to Montana last summer.
I’m terrible at picking people to tag, but I’m sure @bozda-dom would love to do this for me~

Summary: Logan falls asleep on the bus ride home and Virgil wakes him up so he doesn’t miss his stop (that Virgil has conveniently memorized).
EDIT: Whoops it’s not the Barnes & Noble in Portland I meant. There’s a different bookstore that’s HUGE. Cut me some slack, I’ve been dissociated lately lol. (No one called me out, I just realized while in the shower and had to correct myself.)
The drops of water on the windows of the bus were always gorgeous. Logan loved watching as the water and glass obscured the streetlights and headlights on cars, creating a mosaic of color he doubted even an artist as great as Van Gogh could have painted. He watched them every day during the rainy Portland winters on his way home from his job at the Portland Barnes & Noble.
Today, though, had been a hard day. Tourists had showed up—it was the holidays, after all—and they didn't know the store, didn't know the books they wanted, and constantly lost their children in the huge store. And Logan was tired.
His stop was later in the route, he could just set an alarm and sleep for a bit, right? The raindrops on the window were so calming, after all...
Logan sighed and gave in, checking the time and calculating he had about half an hour. He set the alarm at 25 minutes, just in case, and pulled his glasses off. He folded them up, tucked them into his bag, and closed his eyes to lean up against the window.
                                         •
"Hey."
Logan's eyes flew open. A soft voice was whispering to him and a gentle hand was tapping his shoulder. Logan whirled around to find himself nose-to-nose with another man, who he couldn't quite see clearly without his glasses.
"Sorry to wake you, but I think this is your stop. I hope you slept well." The man's words came out quickly, almost too quickly for Logan's sluggish, sleep-filled brain to understand.
But understand he did, and he smiled in thanks. "Thank you." Then he pulled his glasses out of his bag, resting them over his nose. The world turned clear and he got a better look at the rather gorgeous man before him.
The man was decked out in purple. Purple hair, purple jacket, purple earrings, purple headphones. You name it, it was purple. And he pulled the dark look off with ease. His eyes were a dark chocolate brown, his hair was dark to match, and he had a careful smile that Logan doubted he wore often, judging by the fact that he didn't have any creases or smile lines.
Then his lips were moving, his expression changing to one of concern. Logan barely heard the mumbled words as the man prompted quietly, "Um... The driver's going to think no one's getting off here if you don't get off soon..."
Logan blinked, feeling his face heat up and cursing his stupid feelings. "Yes, my—my apologies. Thank you for waking me up. I suppose my alarm must have glitched..."
"Yeah, I guess." The man's smile was back and Logan felt figurative butterflies flutter in his stomach.
Logan forced a smile back—though it wasn't hard to smile in this man's presence—and gave a shy wave as he grabbed his bag and stood up to get off the bus.
He couldn't wipe the supposedly-forced smile off his face for the rest of the day.
Check out some of my other works!

hahaha I won’t do an in depth review bc I’m #lazy (if someone else wants to do one tho pls link me!)
Honestly I think it happened in the whole light 2015/early 2016 span of pre@th getting together & am deciding to leave Portland for Orlando bc like yeah, she went to her husband but also she left th & the two of them had been together for uh what 3 seasons?? So :/
You right tho they’re fuckn DEAD & we didn’t even mourn em bc we were so hype abt the pre@th content
Actually tho idk if you were in the fandom 4 yrs ago when it happened but it was p sad ta/ex fans did mourn & writers ran WILD w the notion that an left for her husband so th who was secretly in love had to finally give up it was gr8 fuel for ppl lol
Also tbh there was a while there where uhhh it didn’t rly seem like they were friends one of my fave examples is (I don’t have a link for it rn rip) in nwsl in ptfc v orl game where am takes a hit & th just starts laughing at her instead of checking to see if she’s okay (like ko does even when they’re on diff teams 🤔🤔)
(also funniest part of this ask is you are one of TWO ta/ex asks i got today lmao)

Rules: Tag 10 followers you want to get to know better.
Star Sign: Virgo
Gender: Gorl
Height: 5'9 (175 cm)
Sexuality: Lesbian
What picture's your wallpaper?: Three of Swords Tarot card
Tumblr media
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?: Well, hopefully just happy. :/ Hopefully I won't be in Florida anymore, maybe I'll have started HRT, and hopefully I'll have a better idea of what I'm trying to do with my life. There's a handful of ways the next few years of my life could impact where I'm at in 10 years, so who knows. I should have a good kitchen tho.
If you could be anywhere else, where would you be?: I really wanna be in the Pacific Northwest, either in Washington or Portland. Bonus points for being somewhere with a good food scene like Seattle
Coolest Halloween Costume: I wasn't allowed to celebrate growing up because I had evangelical cult parents, but I did this for work last halloween, so that was fun?
Tumblr media
Fave 90s show: Uhh. Well I have good memories associated with Full House funnily enough lmao. My whole family used to sit on the couch and watch together before stuff got bad. And then of course theres too many cartoons for me to be able to think of a fave tbh.
Last kiss: gf @cxrpseycxla
Have you ever been stood up?: God yeah lmfao, I was getting flaked on like. Every single week for a couple months for a while lmfao.. and it was the same person like 3/5 of the times it happened lmao
Have you ever been to Vegas?: I've never even been to Nevada tbh. Vegas is in Nevada right?
Fave shoes: uhh, I honestly wear my black work shoes everywhere :/ I have some cute platform Demonia's I wore to prom tho. Also am looking to buy my first pair of Doc Martin's soon.
Fave fruit: Loquats!!! Nobody knows what I'm talking about literally any time I've mentioned these, but they're so fucking good. They don't sell them in stores ever?? I've literally only ever seen them on trees. One time I saw a tree hanging out over a person's fence and I climbed high enough to pull down a branch with fruit on it. And it was like. By a busy street, so like tons of cars could definitely just see this 16 year old kid on the side of the road jumping and hanging on to branches n shit lmao...
Tumblr media
Stupidest thing I've ever done: uhhhh I have no idea tbh.. I do stupid shit constantly, but like. It's to be funny mostly and I usually embrace it, but aside from that, uhhh at my graduation, my graduation cap fell off my head when I went to grab my diploma, and the whole auditorium of like hundreds of parents and students all saw lmfao. And then later when we tossed the caps into the air, I just. YEETED it, like everybody else was able to grab their caps after they threw them, but mine was all the way on the other side of the room lmao....
Fave book: I used to be that kid who was reading like... The Hobbit in 6th grade, but depression and ad/HD wrecked me really bad with reading for fun.. :'/ I wanna say the last book I got pretty into were the Harry Potter books even though that's pretty cheesy and JK Rowling is super annoying. Especially lately.
Fave gif: This one of me effortlessly dodging a hotdog my coworker threw at me that one time tbh.

Books Read, Age 26
Previously: 25, 24, 23, 22, 21, 20, 19, 18 (holy shit)
Enigma Variations–Aciman I talked to Robbie about this one a bunch bc he’s always looking for good novels about gay people by gay people and I thought this might be that but this is…not that. It had promise and the first section is really kind of lovely but it veers off and just…I don’t know, mileage will vary, but it didn’t feel True to me. idk idk either like he misunderstands love and sexuality or I do and it honestly could more than likely be me.
A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy–Adams One of those books I had just always kinda pretended I read. I mean not that people like frequently check to make sure I’ve read AHGttG but just like in my mind whenever it was mentioned I checked it off. You know the dealio you don’t need my thoughts on it (as opposed to most things, on which you definitely do).
All Grown Up–Attenberg My favorite of the Attenberg novels I’ve read. Of particular use and relevance to me, an aging single woman and unlikeable protagonist. I enjoyed this very much, it was sharp and warm and mean and tender.
Queen of the Night–Chee Hmm. Ok. I felt for most of this book that it like…thought it was a different, more important book than it actually was? It is overwritten–both in prose style and in that it could have been at least 100 pages shorter–and you know how sometimes you read a book with a female protagonist and you’re like ‘I can’t believe a man wrote this!’? Yeah this isn’t that. But the ending line is really good? idk. Someone else read it and tell me your thoughts.
Too Much and Not the Mood–Chew-Bose First of all, excellent title. These essays reminded me, and I mean in this in the lease self-important way possible, of my own writing. Just in that way where writing doesn’t have to be traditionally literarily linear. These essays are good and filled with the kind of sentences that make you know the writer loves words, you can feel her placing them carefully with the satisfying click of scrabble tiles, sliding them into the right order.
Who Killed Roger Ackroyd–Christie Typical Agatha novel and very good. I can’t tell you any more without spoiling it.
Murder in Retrospect–Christie This is one of my fave Christie’s. It was dark and smart and pithy.
Rule Britannia–Du Maurier I found this in a used bookstore in Portland, Maine, just after the Brexit vote. She wrote it in like the 70s and it’s speculative fiction based on if the UK left the EU and formed a union with the United States. It’s kind of really good but it also ends kind of abruptly, like maybe it could have been the first of a trilogy or something.
Plum Bun–Fauset This was my favorite book from my Harlem Renaissance class. I wrote my term paper on it. I love this book. I want to write it as a screenplay and someone to make it into a movie and I want Troian Bellesario to play the lead.
A Coney Island of the Mind–Ferlinghetti A book of (I think?) beat poetry that I found in a used bookstore in Saugherties at Thanksgiving. I love these poems, especially one called “The World is a Beautiful Place” which I read out loud to Robbie one night while we were walking between bars in the snow at like midnight.
Wishful Drinking–Fisher Carrie Fisher is one of those people whose very existence makes me feel braver and weirder and funnier. She’s a truly good soul and I don’t have anything else to say except that you should read this and also that you should Postcards From the Edge first it’s better.
Difficult Women–Gay I prefer Roxane Gay’s fiction to her nonfiction and these are very good, very interesting stories full of sadness and love.
The Autobiography of Malcolm X (as told to Alex Haley) I have never had so many people approach me while reading a book in public as this one. It is, unsurprisingly, an extremely compelling and upsetting book. But I was very surprised by it. I’m not sure quite what I expected from it, but it wasn’t what it was. I think about this book at least twice a week. I think everyone should read it and I think they’ll all enjoy it.
How To Be  A Person In the World–Havrilesky I think maybe Ask Polly columns are better in smaller doses than a whole book, but nevertheless, for better or for worse, she shaped a great deal of my early-twenties self esteem and the essays translate to the page much better than a lot of internet writing I’ve read.
Girl on the Train–Hawkins This felt…cheap somehow. Like I got really into it and then felt like I’d been cheated or fooled because it’s truly not very good.
Bright Lines–Islam This is a fascinating book. It’s the most Brooklyn summery, felt the most like my Brooklyn summers despite describing a Bengali Muslim family and smoking weed and other experiences that are not specifically mine. I’d recommend it. Highly.
Intimations–Kleeman Man, I’ve recommended this book of short stories to so many people. It’s weird and interesting and it does something I think is hard, which is write surreal stories where the stakes still feel real, if that makes sense. She came and spoke to our class and she told an interesting question to ask of short stories which was, “what are the satisfactions of this story?” and all of these are satisfying and visceral. There’s one long one in the middle that I skipped and you can too, I give you permission.
A Swiftly Tilting Planet–L'Engle Hey, um, you know what’s p upsetting to read? A plot where a crazy dictator is gonna drop a nuclear bomb and start the end of the world (this isn’t a spoiler it’s introduced like five pages in).
A Wind in the Door–L'Engle This was not as good as A Wrinkle in Time–what is–but it was a bright easy read, her books are so–loving, I guess. Good if you need a little palate cleanser.
Passing–Larsen We read a LOT of books in my Harlem Renaissance course. This a very good, short novel about, well, guess. It’s like a painting somehow, like a 20th century painting.
Sister Outsider–Lorde  I have taken none women’s studies courses so this was a pretty important text I had never read. It is very Good and everyone should read it if they have not already.
Cruel Shoes–Martin I LOVE Steve Martin and still on a few of these I was like “I don’t know, Steve.” But many others (they’re very short stories) are funny or clever or great.
Bright Lights, Big City–McInerney ughhhhhhh a book that is entirely written in second person and is about how womens’ existences and deaths have like ~made a man feel~ but it’s a short quick read and–I am E X T R E M E L Y reluctant to admit–the end is a really good image that did lowkey make me cry but also fuck this book
The Hopeful–O'Neill This I didn’t like much, in a way that I thought it needed a stronger editor and I want Eleanor or Robbie or someone I trust to read it to tell me if I’m wrong.
The Bed Moved–Schiff Weird and good little stories. I don’t think about them often, but they were elegant and sharp as I read them.
Eligible–Sittenfield It’s nice that they’re publishing Modern AU Pride and Prejudice fanfic now in a bound book. This was enjoyable tho tbh not the best Modern AU Pride and Prejudice fanfic I, a cool and chill person, have read in my life.
Swing Time–Smith I think this is my fave of the Zadie Smith books I’ve read. I wasn’t sure by the end quite what the point of it was, but I guess also what’s the point of anything? idk this is a useless description of a book. It was immersive and interesting but I’ve also not told anyone “you *have* to read this you’ll love it.” We did go see her read from it and in person she is enchanting.
The New Woman–Sochen Nonfiction about what I think we’d call first-wave feminism? It was really fascinating about an era I knew nothing about but also had some, um, glaring omissions ahem any mention of race whatsoever.
Action. A Book About Sex–Spiegel Ok look yes fine I am an adult sexually active woman who still reads books about sex whatEVER. I missed sex-ed and I also like to hear, in a non-prurient (or sometimes prurient w/e) way what other people are up to, sex-wise. I mean there’s no real like advice about sex in the world, I think, except that everything consensual and fun is fine, but I think it’s important to occasionally remind yourself of that. This was a good book.
Missing, Presumed–Steiner A crime book that I neither loved nor hated and generally enjoyed reading. Big enh.
The Girls From Corona Del Mar–Thorpe Robbie gave this to me for my birthday last year. A beach read with an edge, page-turner-y but sharp. Seems like it’s going to be a light read, but there’s a bite to it, a reminder of the cruel randomness of fate and of our inability to really know other people or ourselves. I loved this.
Cane–Toomer So this is an important text from the Harlem Renaissance and it’s kinda…never classified? It’s a series of related but not continuous short stories, as well as poetry, and little like plays? idk it’s very evocative and beautiful and dense and bears up to intense overreading. One of my favorite books I read for my Harlem Ren class.
The Blacker the Berry–Thurman Ok so Wallace Thurman apparently worried his whole life that his writing style was too journalistic and he maybe wasn’t…wrong. This is NOT a bad book and it’s well written and novelistic exCEPT when sometimes it feels pedagogical or expository. It’s a short, well constructed novel about colorism and worth checking out.
Killer–Walters Lovely and weird poems. I went to go follow the author on Twitter and discovered I already was. I love these.
The Underground Railroad–Whitehead An extremely. upsetting. book. Here’s the thing and I understand the presumption of my criticism of a book that won the national book award, but: if you’re going to make your conceit that the Underground Railroad is a real railroad, I think that you should do more with it. THAT SAID the rest of this is truly wonderful, somehow at once a page turner and viscerally upsetting.
Kiss Me Like a Stranger–Wilder I love Gene Wilder. I’d read Gilda Radnor’s memoir a couple years ago so part of this was sort of an interesting other side of the story. Anyways he seems like a genuinely strange, slightly neurotic, flawed but mostly warm and kind person.

OOC WEEK: country of origin
What country are you from?
i’m from the united states! i was born in central massachusetts, and i lived there for the first eighteen years of my life before i moved to los angeles for school. i definitely can’t say that i have a good grasp on typical bostonian culture tho because i lived in the suburbs (but i do fuckin know it’s more than casey goddamn affleck throwing dunkins cups at people’s cars), and i haven’t been in california long enough to really feel “west coast” or “LA” so we’ll see how this goes!!!!!!!
What is your first language? Do you speak any other languages?
english! it’s the only language i speak, but i learned latin in high school.
What language would you like to learn?
i honestly hate learning languages. i will say that it’s probably my least favorite thing because i’m impatient and require instant gratification, and learning a language is such a process of discipline that i don’t have. but, barring that, i’d really want to learn hindi because i never learned it as a kid or german because i loved the linguistic similarities between english and latin, and i feel like i’d also enjoy german from a linguistic standpoint.
What’s one movie from your country that you like (or recommend others see)?
ok, so i’m gonna pick a movie Set in Massachusetts to narrow this down a little bit, but the social network??? is such a good depiction of college life in boston??? and spotlight is also great because my mom remembered reading that story in the wall street journal when it broke, and i recognized so many locations in the film, and it just felt....Good.
but also ok even though i didn’t finish nightcrawler (i cannot handle jake gyllenhaal with his eyes buggin out for more than like twenty minutes at a time), it felt like??? a really accurate depiction of LA. obvs la la land is getting a lot of buzz for being such a distinct depiction of LA, but i still feel like nightcrawler got across a better image of it for me.
EXCEPT FOR THE MOMENT WHEN BILL PAXTON’S CHARACTER STIRS A DUNKIN DONUTS CUP OF COFFEE BECAUSE IN WHAT WORLD DOES SOMEONE FROM LA HAVE DUNKINS COFFEE. it’s coffee bean or starbucks or mAybe peet’s if ur lucky, but nEVER DUNKins because there are like 2 of them here bye my rant is done.
Pick a song from your country (or in your language) and talk about why you like it.
i literally was just about to start ranting about the 1975, and then i was like wait tara they’re bRITISH why is all of my music just british boy bands/man bands/girl bands......but!!! i feel like “7/11″ by beyonce is an American Classic, and i couldn’t explain to u why.
Pick a classic song from your country - aka one that everyone knows, one that’s representative of your country, etc.
ok if u play “party in the USA” by miley cyrus at ANY party, EVERYONE will start singing. u can hate the song, u can hate miley, u can not even know the lyrics, but EVERYONE will start singing regardless. it could just be because drunk ppl will follow any trend placed in front of them, but.....in my Professional Opinion, “party in the USA” could be considered a National Anthem of sorts.
What’s a book from your country (or in your language) that you’d recommend?
i really enjoyed “the crucible” even more so because it was set in massachusetts!!! obvs it’s not reflective of Now, but i still really fuckin love it.
What’s your favourite childhood story from your country or culture?
this isn’t a childhood story, but it is definitely my favorite story about my hometown, and it like?? contextualizes where the fuck i grew up. so, there’s a decent sized lake in one of the more residential neighborhoods in town, and in that lake, there’s an island. this old man buys the island. we’re all like ok that’s a little excessive because you can walk around the island in like 20 minutes or less. but then? this old man decides he’s going to name the island. and he REALLY likes busta rhymes, right? so what does he do? he names the island “busta rhymes island”. he doesn’t just stop there. he goes through all of the LEGAL CHANNELS TO OFFICIALLY NAME THIS ISLAND. and now, if you google busta rhymes island, you will see that it officially comes up on google maps in shrewsbury, massachusetts. and that is the town i grew up in.
Talk about a tradition from your country or culture that you love celebrating.
i always hated doing like?? indian things as a kid, idk that’s another issue to unpack on a later date, but i really did enjoy diwali because i had a giant sweet tooth even as a lil kid, and my mom would make me gulab jamuns, and that was the closest i came to actually celebrating anything remotely related to my culture rip rip.
Fave food from your country/culture:
i will always love a good lobster roll and some good ol’ new england clam chowder. but also, i really??? love??? chicken tikka masala.
Best season of the year in your country?
fall and winter in massachusetts are unparalleled to anything i could ever experience in LA ok. the leaves? the snow? the cold? the aesthetic? sign me the fuck up.
What’s one thing that you wish you could change about your country? Why?
let’s go back like 3 months and not elect trump k thnx. that or california should secede from the union.
What’s one thing that you’re proud of about your country?
ok real fuckin proud that massachusetts was the first state to legalize gay marriage in the country!!!!! and that the birth control pill was invented in my home town :’)
Name a country you’d like to visit.
ICELAND. take me to goddamn iceland.
Top three cities you’d like to visit:
sydney, reykjavik, portland.
What’s the best place in your country that you’ve ever visited?
i love san francisco?? i also love phoenix, new york city, and philadelphia.
Have you ever been abroad (out of your country)? If so, where did you go?
i’ve been to italy and greece, england, france, and iceland for like two seconds (hence why i want to go BACK)!
also canada, but i feel like that counts Less.
What are some myths or stereotypes about your country or culture that are either true or are false?
east coast drivers fear no god and give no fucks on the road? True.
people from massachusetts are assholes? True.
everyone is obsessed with dunkin donuts? True.
‘worcester’ is pronounced like worcestershire sauce? FALSE.
massachusetts is liberal heaven? True – to an extent. like, yes, it’s a mostly democratic state, and things are good in comparison to a lot of other places in the country, but that doesn’t change the fact that i’ve seen more trump stickers in massachusetts than i have in los angeles. MA is liberal, but i still think california takes the cake.
massachusetts has legal weed? NOT UNTIL 2018 >:(

same anon from before, thanks for asking me back, made my day:))) portland was fun but i think i sweat jungkook's body weight. it's pretty cold where i'm from (bay area GO WARRIORS) so i definitely wasn't used to it. vmin is my ult ship and i think shipping is ok as long as u dont bring it up to those in question or think of it seriously. i was doing ok, then one of my fave writers asked me how i was and now im better:) gtg gotta go die on the treadmill lmao
omg, you’re back! yay! I’m happy you responded ^_^ sometimes I respond back to nonnies and I don’t hear from ‘em, so I’m glad you did~ (BAY AREA????? WHAT?????? ME TOO HUNNY!!!!!!!) it must’ve been rough to adjust though... I moved more up north in cali so I’m away from the chilly bay air :( so I’m used to the heat. not the allergies... I miss being down there where I didn’t have to worry about sneezing a fuck ton during the spring time.
ahhhh, that makes sense! like it’s good at a measured dose, of course. I don’t yuck anyone’s yum if that they enjoy it, as long as they aren’t being hella intrusive to the people they’re shipping. sometimes it can get hella outta pocket but sometimes people just don’t know what’s enough and what isn’t ;;;;;;
(’: sHUT SHJFSKHF AM I REALLY ONE OF YOUR FAVES? please, i love you. don’t die too much on the treadmill! i’m rooting for you lmao!!! power through!!! play fire on the last five minutes on there and I promise you’ll sprint through that fucker like there’s no tomorrow. (that’s my own pro tip tho so feel free to ignore me ahaha.)
sleepover weekend asks❣️
