#Haitian #Designers You Need to Know About | Teen Vogue Remember their names. Post By Danielle Kwateng As the second most populous island in the #Caribbean with 10 million people, #Haiti has an incredibly rich history. Originally inhabited by the Taíno people whose ancient buildings are still in tact, the presence of the Spanish and French colonizers with the African slaves brought to the country has created a melting pot of languages, traditions and art that is admired globally for its vibrancy. The nation’s capital of Port-au-Prince, has always been known for its garments, tailors, jewelry and even leathergoods that are sold alongside produce in the city’s bustling markets. But in recent years, millions has been invested in clothing manufacturing on a massive scale. It’s been estimated that 90 percent of the country’s exports come from the clothing sector alone, making it a budding #fashion hub to not ignore. Born of this rich heritage with incredible fashion sense and #business savvy are the following 15 designers from Haiti that we’re obsessed with— and you should be too.
