She knows it was all part of the show and production’s bs for ratings but that doesn’t mean it still didn’t hurt

What does she post? I feel like she posts maybe three times a month and a lot are outfit pics but tends to go live more so to chat with the people! Personally wasn’t the biggest fan of season 1 but admits she wishes she had mc’s balls in terms of what she would have done if she was in elladine’s place when lily picked Nicky, “ugh! I wish I had her strength rising through my veins in that moment. Absolute riot. Adore her.”

The real problem with the film is that they tried to tackle way too much for a 90 minute movie.

In Poppy's case, I also never really bought that her main flaw was not listening. In the prequel it was her listening to Bridget what got her to realise that 1) she was in love with Gristle, 2) not all Bergens were evil, just desperate for happiness, and 3) they could actually be happy without eating trolls. Things not even Branch figured out! Even after her song he still believed Bergens didn't have feelings.

You can't connect with someone completely different from you if you don't listen. And yet, they turn that into her biggest flaw and use it against characters with whom she actually shares so much more??? Like, the film showed all trolls are caring and affectionate and they all love singing and dancing. That was pretty much what described a troll in the first movie! And seriously? Having Poppy accidentally insult the Country trolls over a sad song? When the Snack Pack literally sang Total Eclipse of the Heart right beside her?? When Bridget's Hello is what made her understand that Bergens did have feelings??? Yeah, I don't see your point. But go off, I guess.

Honestly, I would've been ok with this if they'd actually given us a reason WHY. A believable reason. Not that "I gotta prove I'm a good queen" crap. An actual good reason. Like, having always felt she lived in her dad's shadow. Or her dad not trusting her (which they decided to scrap). Or that she was acting that way because in their previous adventure everything she had ever been told had been a lie and she only managed to save the day being true to herself so she thought this time would be no different!! ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE CRAP WE WERE FED.

Then we have the new characters.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing more of them. But the main reason I wasn't nearly as affected when we found out they wouldn't appear in TrollsTopia is because... What's there to miss?

Most characters were introduced during scenes that lasted five minutes tops. Unless you're a genius writer, that's not enough time to make a character memorable. Sure, the designs are amazing, but there isn't much characterisation.

Then, we have Barb.

Would you believe me if I say I liked Chef better?

Don't get me wrong! She was absolutely terrible, but that made her such a great villain. Barb's sense of superiority and total disregard for the other tribes also happens to be one of my berserk buttons. Let's just say that when you spend so much time and energy trying to be understanding and open-minded, people who don't even try get into the top 10 of your black list pretty fast.

Then again, TV Tropes describes her as Affably Evil and I... I just don't see it. Sorry, but I don't. Because until the end of the film she was only nice to her subjects and her dad, not to the characters she did indeed antagonise. I mean, 95% of her screentime is her looking down and insulting non-Rock music. What's affable about that?

I'll admit, perhaps my disappointment stems from the fact that I actually expected more depth from her character. Sure, the whole lonely queen thing has a certain strength, but it pales in comparison to some pre-movie headcanons.

I personally imagined she was doing all that for her dad, with whom she'd have some sort of strained relationship and wanted to impress him. But deep down she knew what she was doing was wrong.

...Come the film and she's actually a huge Daddy's girl who's less reasonable than her dad; and he is SENILE.

You might not believe me after all this, but I really don't hate her either. I hate the fact that there was so much wasted potential more. Because if they'd just manage their time better, maybe they would've been able to show her redeeming qualities and AT LEAST apologise to the other tribes.

Which is why I'm a little disappointed at Tiny's arc in Holiday in Harmony, tbh. They could've taken that opportunity to explore Barb's character more if the subplot had been about her trying to understand the other tribes better because she must give her present to a non-Rock troll.

As for Cooper's arc... I was a little disappointed because they didn't even give us a heartfelt reunion despite making such a big deal out of it. Still, I love the Funk Fam.

Another problem in the characterisation was Biggie. Do you seriously expect me to believe that the second sweetest troll in Pop Village would abandon Poppy —his best friend who went to Bergen Town, A.K.A where they natural predators live, just to save them— over a pinkie promise? Which, by the way, wasn't even that big a deal. Yeah, sure. It sparkled and all, but in the end it wasn't even a legally binding contract.

Yeah, I don't think so.

As for Branch. Two problems:

1) Yes, they did ignore his character and his development for his feelings for Poppy. And I say that as a hardcore Broppy shipper.

2) Even if Poppy needed to be called out, things also got that far because Branch chose to follow her blindly in hopes of winning her over or get the chance to confess instead of actually talking to her about her decision-making sooner. Once again, he chose to ignore his true self in order to fit in or be liked, which is a character flaw of his.

Having said all that, even if (except for some things) TWT won't probably mean as much to me as Trolls, I still love the franchise and want to watch it thrive and improve.

There are times when I don’t know how I feel about Trolls World Tour, actually. Times when I feel like, I dunno, too much of it was venturing into unknown territory?

Like, for a long time up until now, we’ve more or less known what to expect from this franchise, from its world. We knew generally what the trolls in Troll Village and their lifestyle were like, same went for the bergens over in Bergen Town. We got the general idea of the surrounding forest and its critters and bugs as well. The rainbow aesthetic, the Troll Village culture of scrapbooking and hugs and parties and every troll being almost ridiculously good-natured, the more dull-colored and grumpy bergens and their town–we get used to all of this while also getting to know more and more of the details of it, for four years. We have a movie and holiday special and 8 seasons of a Netflix series expanding on this more and more while still keeping it to this same general way of things that we know.

And then all of a sudden, it’s revealed ALL of this was only a small part of the picture. There’s an entire world outside of that full of other places and other trolls that are totally different from the ones we’ve come to know and love. NOT all of their world looks like that colorful forest full of fuzzy bug and plant creatures. NOT all trolls hug every hour and eat lots of cupcakes and live in brightly colored pods. Other troll tribes are totally different in all kinds of ways in their music and their lifestyle. And with so much of this movie showing us parts of all of those, taking us out of familiar territory to show us everything else that’s out there that we’ve never seen before, it kinda just gives a really different feel to it than the rest of the franchise so far–and it’s also kind of a lot at once. And, to be honest, that leaves me with some discomfort and uncertainty.

I’m sure plenty of people in this fandom are just, like, super excited about all the new possibilities and everything that this opens up. And that’s cool. Though I should hope there’s also plenty of people in this fandom who, like me, have discomforts with all this new stuff and aren’t totally sure how to feel.

I mean…this IS probably a good thing, I suppose. The whole idea of leaving familiar territory and jumping into that whole great unknown, even just saying the words comes off as at least as exciting as it is scary, right? And, a huge reason I came to love the first movie so much was specifically because of all the things that I was NOT expecting and wasn’t 100% certain how to feel about at first, but which I eventually did come to understand and accept. Maybe the same thing will happen with the second one. That is kind of what I was hoping for, was it not? More of that same shock-and-disbelief-slowly-turning-to-understanding-and-acceptance experience? I mean, it doesn’t feel like the same experience at all, it’s, like, way more subtle and more general discomfort than outright shock and disbelief. But still, maybe it will turn out the same way if I give it time. Here’s hoping.
