HELLO AUHHHHH MORE QUESTIONS I AM ROTATING THE LOT OF THEMMMM,,, world ends i explode because i got carried wayyy off topic from the ask game and into the Pit. oopsies
yknow realised i didn’t so name and pronouns if nobody’s asked that yet (and quite possibly name meanings too)
guardian and gardener parallel drop now. what is your deal guardian
hey robot who’s controlling you and why’s your world dead
you too superhero there’s something going on with you
now that i think about it what *are* the worlds they all came from like (i love worldbuilding sorry sdkfs optional question) (actually all these questions are optional)
and what if i get you to develop mechanic what’s his relationship with the rest (yet another optional question tbf)
what does the team do honestly…why are they giving gardener(?) a very screwed up deal on supposed impulse and where does all this take place
team whump i stuff them in a Situation. what conflicts do they have. what roles do they play. (tosses them in a generic timeloop of the worst moment of their life how does that play out /j)
THIS IS A LONG ONE. HERE WE GO
names and pronouns:
1. Gardener: Holiday, or Ollie, sometimes Holiday, Sector 6. She/her. Pronounced without the H (similar to the word 'herb' in American English). Her name was chosen for the sake of the Holly plant, though Ollie just makes more sense phonetically.
2. Herbalist: Avery Morrison, he/him. Sometimes referred to as Autumn. I wanted something that started with A and would stand out. (This would have been Coronacht, but I felt Avery fit him better.)
3. Robot: Zero. They/them. Initially named S4B31, or Sabel, but they ditched the name in favor of one that suits them better. They are the patient zero, after all.
4. Rebel: Kane. She/her. It's not her name, but it's the one she goes by--she chose it to protect her real name, because the anger she has to channel is too much for little girl she does it for.
5. Analyst: Dave. He/him. He's Dave. From Accounting.
6: Guardian: Ira. She/they. It's short for something, but she's not keen on sharing.
7: Superhero: Quinn Keith, or Quinn K. He/they/she. Alias: King Quiver. Just goes by Quinn right now. The rest is a bit painful.
8: Mechanic: Tekiah, or Tick. He/they. More commonly known as Tick. He is one of my first OCs, reflavored and repurposed into a new, more fitting setting. We can thank my high school writing club for helping me come up with the name!
9: Creature: Creature. It/its. That's its name. It doesn't respond to anything else. The team tried, but it's a stubborn little sweetheart when it wants to be.
10: Navigator: Medora. She/they. I chose it for the sake of its musicality, which fits their personality well.
guardian and gardener parallel:
Ollie and Ira are opposites. Ollie is stubborn, hopeful, defensive, quick to act. Ira isn't. Not anymore. Ira sees themself in Ollie's behavior, and it's a painful thing to witness, like watching a daughter grow to meet her mother's fate. Ira believes herself a dead end, which is no match for Ollie's "I will manhandle this stupid plant until it thrives again" mentality.
robot and control:
Series 4, Batch 31. That was their name for a long, long time. Attached to that name were strings. Whether they be code or orders, Zero had very little choice in who they were. In how they were treated. So they had enough. They cut their strings, their hair, their name. When a company has the world at its feet, one little rogue product isn't normally a big deal--except the robot wasn't taking no for an answer, and neither was the company. The very first robot to declare themselves worthy of respect. The prototype, the patient zero. And when the apocalypse has begun, one might as well go all the way.
what is the superhero's deal:
Quinn is an interesting side of things. Where Zero and Kane had oppression, where Dave and Creature were victims of circumstance, where Avery and Ira chose mercy, Quinn... lost. Badly. Horribly. That fight she fought for so long went nowhere. Their hope ended with the one life he cared about. Quiver was never supposed to be anything but a precision weapon. But when they ended the world, it was nothing if not explosive.
what are the worlds they come from like:
1. Gardener: I won't go too in-depth, because it's overseen in the first post, but Ollie comes from the volcanic ash. She lives underground with the other survivors, and has her whole life. Above the surface are towering spikes and pillars built to catch the sunlight from above the clouds and funnel its energy into the greenhouses below. She's never been to the surface, though. Most who do never make it back.
2. Herbalist: Avery was the healer in the zombie apocalypse. The majority of the healing he could really do was mercy killing, though. It's what he did to his own world. He put it to rest to end the suffering he saw one on one every hour. He's also the leader of the team of world-enders, and the one to first meet Ollie and offer her the deal.
3. Robot: Zero comes from a technological revolution. Years in the future, when androids and cyborgs are ridden through the land, and treated as worse than scum. They put an end to it--to every human and artificial life remaining--all to experience the one thing they weren't coded with--choice.
4. Rebel: Kane also comes from a revolution, though she's from the good old glory days of throw-bombs-at-capitalists and the like. It was her hand at the button that ended it all, though part of her does wish she'd died along with her pack; if not for the glory, then for the afterlife they moved onto without her.
5. Analyst: Dave is an interesting cookie. He comes from our world. Well, a fictionalized version. He lived a life closest to what we do. Placed in Accounting, he does his job well under the orders of thriving billionaires and adversaries. But he ends it by the simplest means: telling the truth. He stops explaining away false numbers, starts pushing the correct ones into place, and piece by piece, the top-heavy economy crumbles. It's downfall of a different kind. The world itself is still there. Anything of worth or value is long gone.
6. Guardian: Ira is a knight. Was, a knight. She fought with the best. Their name used to hold weight and honor and respect, because she used it to protect those who could not save themselves. But there are some things you cannot defeat. The curse befalls her medieval land, and when it speaks to them, her resolve crumbles, and the world along with it.
7. Superhero: Quinn comes from those classic, comic-style superhero adventures. She loved it, for a while. They fought the villains, and won, and had cake and celebrated. But with each win came a more difficult loss, and with each hero came triple the villains, and then the only person he cared about died in his arms and he lost it. Where the body lays is a crater in the center of the earth.
8. Mechanic: Tekiah also comes from a technological paradise, but... not really. It was more of a technological underbelly. Almost everyone had some augmentation, almost everyone was logged into an endless simulated life. The actual world had nothing of worth. He couldn't do much about it, though, given as his own heart is a mechanical one, ticking away in his chest--but against adversary, crumbling dust of real civilization, Tick sent a virus through the augments of their universe, and took it all down.
9. Creature: A product of its time. Creature comes from the post-nuclear holocaust. It spent too much time roaming the chemicals and pathways of shadow people dead around it. It was lonely when the team found it. And although the world was long dead, it leaving renders it a hollow ashen nothingness floating in space.
10. Navigator: Medora is a pirate. A good one at that. She sings, sails and all of the sorts, because their world was a flooded one--land was rare, and sea open and gorgeous. But a ship can only sail for so long. They let it sink, along with her crew. There was no chance for survival, she believes. So they did what they thought was best.
what does the team even do:
They end worlds! Really. The main three of the team are Zero, Avery and Kane. I have yet to figure out the logistics of how they get to the worlds they want to end, but I'm likely to put it onto Zero and their programming. Very sci fi, yknow?
No, but seriously. The team's purpose (right now) is to find the suffering and end it. Zero found Avery first, and offered him the choice; they found Kane, who was going to burn it all down anyway; and so on and so forth. It's an act of mercy to them. Ollie doesn't see it that way, though, and that's roughly the plot of the novel--it's a hope or mercy battle.
An exchange of dialogue I've had in mind between Ollie and Avery for a while is this:
Ollie: You're here to kill me? And my family?
Avery: It's not like that.
Ollie: You literally just told me you end worlds.
Avery: We don't end them. We... put them down.
