later on he freaks out over seeing araide-sensei and you can just TELL how paranoid he is now. even if he does return to being shinichi, his life has been forever changed. there's no way for him to just go back to how everything was before, and it's laid out so perfectly in this chapter.

This scene is horrifying.

The music is what really makes it even creepier.

As Gummigoo, our poor lad, walks through the endless maze of underneath the map. There’s like a pulse as if he had a heart and it kind of grows as he gets closer to the room of NPC models.

Then the music is almost euphoric and ethereal but has darker undertones. It’s discovery, uncertainty, and you’re seeing mannequins almost in a vast room of who knows where. Gummi starts to realize it’s not just mannequins but the people in the map that he is familiar with to the too familiar.

When he sees the model of him and his friends, you hear I think chimes or bells like it’s a realization or a lightbulb moment. It’s a realization of seeing yourself in front of you. It’s not a mirror. It’s a copy.

A lifeless copy.

I love how for a moment when the camera is on the Gummi model, it looks like it is the real him but you see his shocked face after.

The music continues to be euphoric yet creepy but until Gummi touches the model and he realizes “holy fuck this is a literal copy of me. It’s a body.”

That’s fucking terrifying.

Poor baby boy 😭 but then this is kind of my favorite part. It’s like straight out of an A24 movie with how still euphoric but now it’s haunting. Or a SpongeBob scene. Every time the camera is on the copy, the strings are chilling but stop when it’s back on Gummi.

I also like how Gummi’s eyes become more of a 00 shape instead of a closed shape to show his fear. It even shows that really close with the last shots before Pomni falls on cue.

Music makes a huge difference and I love it
