Being Alone, Anaconda, and Apparently: Doctor Thunder RIDICULOULSY SWEET PLAYFUL.JOYFUL PUPPY IN NEED OF AN ACTIVE FAMILY ID 40720, SPAYED 1.5 YRS.. 42 LBS DREAMING OF YOU AT MANHATTAN ACC TO BE KILLED - 3/2/2019 Highly affectionate, social and sweet, this baby girl is fighting for her life because she was adopted out to the WRONG family. She is full of joy, plays exuberantly and wants nothing more than to play, play play! There’s not a thing wrong with her, she is a puppy in need of training! As a volunteer writes: “Sweet, bubbly and deliciously refreshing, Dr Thunder lives up to her namesake by being the most effervescent puppy at the Care Center. She's full of energy and loves to play, with her toys, her doggie peers and her human friends, but sometimes she gets a bit carried away and forgets that not everything is a chew toy! Dr Thunder's games of choice are chase and tug-o-war and she's a tenacious opponent, all wiggly and tail-waggy yet surprisingly strong for such a petite gal, and of course she can go go go for as long as you care to play. A decent leash walker and attentive companion who's always keen to learn new tricks for treats, with some engaging toys, plenty of exercise and a little polish to her manners, Dr Thunder is going to make her new family so proud. The most joyful, exuberant little ragamuffin you'll ever meet is waiting for her next play date at our Manhattan Care Center. Ask for Dr Thunder by name and get ready to P-A-R-T-Y! “ If you can save her life, please hurry and PM our page or email us at [email protected] to foster or adopting her now. Andrew Bogut, Children, and Click: GOOFY, SILLY, HAPPY,SWEET BOY, WHO LOVES PEOPLE&IS WAGGY WITH OTHER DOGS. A TOTAL LOVEBUG ADORED BY VOLUNTEERS, AND DREAMING OFAFAMILY TOLOVE HIM LOVEABLE LENNOX Id 42185, e 2 Yrs., 56 lbs. of Perfect, Waiting for you, in Manhattan ACC TO BE KILLED – 9/27/2018 Wounded jumping out of a bathtub and cutting himself on the soap dish, bundle of love Lennox doesn’t let his injury get in the way of his sheer joy in life. He’s such a sweet boy, gangly, goofy, and completely loveable boy, adored by volunteers because of his wiggly, social ways. He seems to love other dogs, though the poor kid didn’t get to play with the other “kids” in doggy playgroup because of the severe wound on his side, but he sat at the gate, wagging away at the female on the other side. He adores people, and you couldn’t ask for a more handsome, loving friend. As a volunteer writes: “If you looked like Lennox, why wouldn't you love life? He has a large personality and a smile to match. He seems unfazed by his injury or by the fact he has to wear a large plastic collar. He doesn't seem to mind as long as you scratch the right spots (right along his torso and behind his ear for those keeping track at home). His limbs seem to have a mind of their own and make walking or jumping (please see video) sometimes difficult. Lennox is not the most graceful of fellas but he is one of the most lovable, and he is waiting (most likely, awkwardly) for you at MACC.!” PRIVATE MESSAGE our page or email us at [email protected] for assistance fostering or adopting Lennox. Being a goofball. 😊 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8QtqiVZlmo LENNOX, ID # 42185, @ 2 Yrs. Old, 56 lbs. Manhattan ACC, Large Mixed Breed, Gray / White, Unaltered Male Owner Surrender Reason: STRAY Shelter Assessment Rating: EXPERIENCE (Suitable for a family with some previous dog experience) Intake Behavior Rating: 1. GREEN At Risk Memo: Lennox is at risk due to medical condition. Lennox has a large wound on his side that will need regular cleaning and care to prevent infection. We recommend he recover in a home with an adopter who has some dog experience. INTAKE NOTE – DATE OF INTAKE, 9/21/2018: Lenox had a loose body, wagging tail and allowed counselors to rub his back and give him treats. Lenox also allowed to be collared and placed into a kennel. SURRENDER NOTES, BASIC INFORMATION: Lenox is a large mixed breed male, estimated to be 2 years old. Lenox came in today by his owner’s relative, with a medical emergency. Lenox has a large cut on his left side that he received in his home when he was getting a bath, leaped out of the tub, and got cut by a broken soap dish. It is a severely deep wound and shows some muscle tissue. Lennox previously lived with 2 Adults. He is friendly with strangers, loose, and waggy tail. Medical Notes: Lenox has a large cut on his left side that cut him open with a broken soap dish. It is a severely deep wound and his muscle tissue is showing. The incident happened a few hours ago and Lenox is licking it a lot. IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: Lennox has been highly social with his human caretakers in the shelter environment. He has been soft and social throughout all his interactions with staff and volunteers. He may get jumpy at times but he is food motivated and receptive to training. SHELTER ASSESSMENT – DATE OF ASSESSMENT, 24-Sep-2018 Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor's face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft 'popping' of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Paw squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Paw squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pull back. Flank squeeze 1: Item not conducted Flank squeeze 2: Item not conducted Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. Dog does not place his/her body between you and the toy. Summary: Lennox quickly approached the assessor and jumped up in a social manner. He displayed a high level of activity and movement during his assessment, becoming mouthy during tag but applying light pressure and jumping up a lot. He was social throughout and allowed all handling. INTAKE BEHAVIOR - Date of intake: 21-Sep-2018. Summary: Loose body, allowed handling MEDICAL BEHAVIOR - Date of initial: 22-Sep-2018. Summary: Active, social, allowed handling ENERGY LEVEL: Lennox is he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below) Recommendations: No young children (under 5) Recommendations comments: No young children: Due to the high level of jumping and mouthing seen at the care center, we recommend a home without young children. Older children who are comfortable around large, jumpy dogs should have an in-depth interaction prior to adoption. Potential challenges: Basic manners/poor impulse control, Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition, Low threshold for arousal Potential challenges comments: Basic manners/poor impulse control: Lennox jumps up a lot on people in a social manner. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. Low threshold for arousal: Lennox quickly becomes over aroused in the presence of people, jumping up and mouthing. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used to teach Lennox to remain calm when people and other exciting things are around. He should be reward with treats when calm. If he escalates to jumping or mouthing, people should immediately walk away from and separate themselves from Lennox. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Lennox has shown some mouthiness in the care center. Little pressure is applied, but this is a behavior that should be extinguished through training alternate behaviors and lack of reward (ex. walking away whenever Lennox's teeth make contact with skin). MEDICAL EXAM NOTES 23-Sep-2018 Tech Exam: As pr Dr. 1516 gently expressed discharge from the wound area, cleaned the area with chlorhex solution, and then cold compressed wound for 5 minutes w/ice pack wrapped in brown paper towel. E-collar was secured. 22-Sep-2018 DVM Intake Exam. Estimated age: ~2yrs based on Pe and o hx. Microchip noted on Intake? scanned negative by LVT on intake. MC placed on intake. History: Surrendered by friend of O. Reported to have jumped out of bathtub during a bath and cut himself on a broken soap dish. Subjective / Observed Behavior - BAR, very friendly. Allows all handling but is excitable. Evidence of Cruelty seen - none Evidence of Trauma seen - yes, large full thickness wound on left abdomen. Andrew Bogut, Click, and Dogs: DUMPED AS A STRAY, A FAMILY PET WANTS TO GO HOME TO THE LIFE SHE LOVED. SUPER SOCIAL, SWEET, WAGGY, GIRL WITH STELLAR SAFER SCORES GORDA ID 34642, @ 5 Yrs. Old, 78 lbs of Love, Spayed and Dreaming of the Life she Loved, in Manhattan ACC TO BE KILLED 7/20/2018 They say she was a stray. Do we believe it? Nope. She’s 78 buxom pounds of sweetness, she’s spayed, and she loves people. She ACED her SAFER, and was wiggly, soft, wagging, friendly, social and just a GREAT all around gal with the assessor. She got an experienced rating meaning she can go to a family with prior dog experience. All good right? Wrong. Because GORDA, as amazing as she is, is going to die because she is homeless. She is overwhelmed by the barking, whining and distress of the other dogs when passing in close quarters, though when she met a helper dog at the gate, she was all wagging tails. She would most likely be fine with other dogs, given time to decompress and then slow intros (which is de rigueur anyway when bringing home a new pet – it takes TIME!!!!). Poor Gorda, all she has is this lousy intake photo but she’s really so lovely! We adore her and we want to see her out of the shelter and back in a family environment ASAP. She doesn’t know why she is here. We don’t know why she’s there either! She’s very special, and she wants to go home, plain and simple. Are you the experienced person who can give her back her life? If so, you need to Private Message our page or email us at [email protected] for assistance fostering or adopting her. GORDA, ID # 34642, @ 5 Yrs. Old, 78.8 lbs. Manhattan ACC, Large Mixed Breed, Tan / White, Spayed Female I came to the shelter as a Stray, 7/15/2018 Shelter Assessment Rating: Experienced Home Intake Behavior Rating: INTAKE NOTE – DATE OF INTAKE, 7/15/2018: While trying to get her into the kennel she became extremely nervous and anxious and would bark heavily, possibly dog reactive. SHELTER ASSESSMENT - Date of assessment:: 7/17/2018 Look:: 1. Dog's eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor's cupped hands. Sensitivity:: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag:: 1. Dog follows at the end of the leash, body soft. Paw squeeze 1:: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw. Paw squeeze 2:: 2. Dog quickly pull back. Flank squeeze 1:: Item not conducted Flank squeeze 2:: Item not conducted Toy:: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. Summary:: Gorda approached the assessor with a soft body. She was social throughout the assessment, allowed all handling, and displayed no concerning behaviors. DOG TO DOG SUMMARIES: Summary (1):: 7/16: When Gorda greeted a male dog at the fence she displays a soft body and low tail wag. Due to some handling concern, she is not a candidate for off leash interaction. Gorda should be allowed time to decompress outside of a shelter environment - future introductions should be conducted at a slow pace to respectful dogs. INTAKE BEHAVIOR, Date of intake:: 7/15/2018. Summary:: Anxious, barking at dogs ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Gorda so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. In the care center, she displays a medium level of activity. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below) Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable Potential challenges: : On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Leash-biting Potential challenges comments:: On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: At the care center, Gorda has been observed to react to other dogs on leash, lunging towards them, barking and growling. Gorda may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach her to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior. Leash-biting: Gorda is quick to grab the leash in her mouth. We recommend walking her with a toy to dissuade him from grabbing the leash. Positive reinforcement, force-free training is advised to teach her to focus on you rather than grabbing the leash. MEDICAL NOTES: 19/07/2018 DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: Estimated 4-6 years based on dentition and overall appearance Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned pos - 985112004875305 History : Stray. Owner was identified but health hx not obtained. Subjective: Alert in kennel. Many wounds noted on feet and legs. Observed Behavior: In the kennel, pt barks and paces. When we attempt to leash her, she evades the leash, then grabs it in her mouth and starts playing tug. A water spray bottle is used to discourage this behavior, but pt does not drop the leash. Eventually we let go of the leash, and she drops her end too and resumes pacing. Pt cannot be removed from the kennel safely, so she is sedated with 0.7 ml butorphanol and 1 ml Dexdomitor IM. Exam completed with pt heavily sedated. Evidence of Cruelty seen - None Evidence of Trauma seen - Wounds on legs - R/O self-trauma Objective T = P = R = BCS 7/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Mild tartar. Wounds are 0.5-2 cm dia - some are linear, some are round. Skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat. CNS: Mentation appropriate - no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally Assessment 1. Wounds on legs and feet - R/O self-trauma or trauma from kennel, vs. allergies vs. both 2. Being Alone, Bones, and Bored: 2 yrs old, 95 bs Waiting on LoveManiattaER ACC Benj 95 Lbs Handsome. Benji iş a big, very well-mannered Boy. Friendly, Affectionate TDe 39570 nd Playful. He LOVES the pool and is bouncy playful with the other dogs in playgroup. TO BE KILLED 9/4/18 Handsome Benji <3 Benji is one handsome big boy, very well-mannered, calm and - obviously - the happiest about the pool. Benji is described as playful, friendly and affectionate, he is polite around other dogs and bouncy playful with his peers in playgroup. Please share this magnificient boy for a loving home! A volunteer writes: Summer may have come to an end but the party, well it doesn't have to. Not if you play your cards right, are quick on the draw, and hit the jackpot with one special pup. Not only is 2 year-old Benji smart as a whip, cute as a button, and sweet - make that sweeter - than honey, he's also playful, well-mannered, social, and warm, and his pool skills give Phelps a run for his money. But we can't talk about Benji without touching on his looks, and that cinnamon-cream coat? You'll want to be touching it. And when done admiring his long, wagging tail, and ample, sturdy frame, you'll arrive at his eyes - one brown and one blue - both striking enough for you to wholly get lost in. Benji is a young, active boy who would do best with an experienced family who'll take him on plenty of walks (more like parades with this boy), have laps open for snuggles, and maybe engage in a splish-splash or two when the temperatures call for it. Summer's come to an end but the party? It's just getting started. And just as with your long life with Benji you'll never want it to end. Benji is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan ACC. He displayed a very high level of activity and movement on his assessment, bring in constant motion and jumped up several times. He was a bit mouthy, applying light pressure. He was social throughout and allowed all handling. Summary (1): 8/28: When introduced off leash to a female dog, Benji engages in soft bouncy play. Summary (2): 8/29-30: Benji engages in soft play. Date of intake: 27-Aug-2018 Summary: Loose body, allowed handling Date of initial: 27-Aug-2018 Summary: Playful, jumpy ENERGY LEVEL: Benji is described as having a high level of activity. He is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: ADULT ONLY HOME Recommendations: No children (under 13) Recommendations comments: No children: Due to the high level of jumping and mouthing seen at the care center, we recommend an adult only home. Potential challenges: Basic manners/poor impulse control Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition Strength/leash pulling Potential challenges comments: Basic manners/poor impulse control: Benji jumps up a lot on people in a social manner. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Benji has shown some mouthiness in the care center. Little pressure is applied, but this is a behavior that should be extinguished through training alternate behaviors and lack of reward (ex. walking away whenever Benji's teeth make contact with skin). Strength/leash pulling: Benji is a very large, strong dog with the capability to pull over an average adopter. His adopter must be prepared and able to handle a dog of this size and strength. It is recommended that he be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which help diminish his strength through leverage, and that he be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash. MEDICAL EXAM NOTES My health has been checked. My vaccinations are up to date. My worming is up to date. I have been microchipped. *** TO FOSTER OR ADOPT *** If you would like to adopt a dog on our “To Be Killed” list, and you CAN get to the shelter in person to complete the adoption process *within 48 hours of reserve*, you can reserve the dog online until noon on the day they are scheduled to die. Andrew Bogut, Click, and Dogs: A Family Pet dumped as a stray, dreams of the Family she loved and the life she lost... Super sweet, social waggy& broken hearted - STELLAR SAFER gorda drewny of Pore Where you used to be, there is a hole in the world, which I find myself constantly walking around in the daytime, and falling into at night...l miss you." ld 34642, @ 5 Yrs., 78 lbs. Spayed & Dreaming of a Loving Home, at Manhattan ACC TO BE KILLED 7/21/2018 *** NEW POSTER, NEW PICS, A 2ND & FINAL CHANCE FOR GORDA - SHARE HER FAR AND WIDE! *** hey say she was a stray.
