Onnoghen resigns as CJN ‘with immediate effect’ . . Walter Onnoghen has resigned as the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN) with immediate effect. . He turned in his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday evening, a day after the National Judicial Council (NJC) recommended that he be compulsorily retired for misconduct. . By virtue of section 306 of the 1999 constitution, his resignation takes immediate effect. . His resignation save Buhari from having to get two-thirds majority of the senate to confirm Onnoghen’s retirement as stipulated in Section 292 (1) of the 1999 constitution which says a “judicial officer shall not be removed from his office or appointment before his age of retirement except in the following circumstances – (a) in the case of – (i) Chief Justice of Nigeria… by the President acting on an address supported by two-thirds majority of the Senate.” Buhari may not be able to muster the needed majority. . Onnoghen’s retirement benefits in cash and kind will cost tax payers about N2.5 billion. . As part of the package for a retired chief justice, a house will be built for him in Abuja with a nine-digit sum for furnishing — in addition to a severance gratuity that is 300% of his annual basic salary of N3,363,972.50, as well as pension for life. . Just like state governors, a retired chief justice is entitled to a number of domestic staff and sundry allowances for personal upkeep. . This package for judicial officers was put together by the NJC long before Onnoghen became the CJN in 2017. . However, if he is dismissed, he will not be entitled to any benefits. . The resignation, was the “best possible option” for Onnoghen under the current circumstance . . Rotimi Amaechi’s House ‘Invaded’ By Police . . The home of Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi was reportedly invaded by some policemen recently. . According to a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-South, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, the attack was carried out on the orders of the Rivers Government. . Eze's conclusion, which was contained in a statement on Friday, alleged that the Port Harcourt home of the minister was invaded at the behest of the State government on the 8th of May, 2019. . According to him, the attack occurred shortly after Governor Wike boasted in a TV interview that Amaechi has become so unpopular that he can't move around Port Harcourt safely without Security escort and on a day that the Minister was expected to visit Port Harcourt. . He also highlighted that Governor Wike in the said interview stated that the Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) of the State has improved tremendously under his watch but the question the Governor refused to answer is, "what had he achieved with the improved IGR and billions of Naira that accrued to the State through the monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee. The Governor have totally achieved nothing with all the huge funds at his disposal as he allows the State to have the highest number of unemployed youths and unpaid salaries to civil servants and pension to Pensioners all these factors have enhanced insecurity in the State. . The party chieftain had recently, in a statement addressed to Wike, suggested a couple of answers to solving the fearsome peace and security realities in the state, admonishing him to offer 'true leadership' as governor of the state for the period the laws will allow him to be in office and discard all political activities that had hitherto distracted him from being an exemplary leader. Wike had earlier called a truce in the face off between him and the APC in the state. . . #Riversstate #wike #amaechi #pdp #apc #electiontribunal #electionviolence #killings #naijaupdates #poltrakblog #blogs #news https://www.instagram.com/p/BxU5f1Zls4A/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=19gptx5ojos9p

DSS Cannot Demand The Resignation Of A Party Chairman – Oshiomhole . . The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adams Oshiomhole, says the Department of State Services (DSS) cannot demand the resignation of a party chairman. . Oshiomhole said this when he made an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, in reaction to comments trailing his invitation by the security agency. . The comments also followed the alleged plan by some aggrieved governors of the party to impeach him from office. . The national chairman of the APC, however, debunked allegations that his invitation by the DSS was linked to any financial fraud case. . He said he was not arrested by but was engaged in a routine meeting with the security agency. . He said, “We have met a couple of times to discuss issues that have to do with the country, our party, if they have information or if there are certain clarifications they need… we’ve had conversations on a variety of issues. . “For the man on the street, I wasn’t hired (arrested) by DSS and I cannot be requested by the DSS to resign or to retain the job. . “APC is a structured party, we have organs, I know the processes, we know the procedures and I believe the DSS also understand their own role in the system. . “It is not up to them to demand the resignation of a party chairman. If there are issues of finances or issues of fraud or corruption, I don’t think those fall within the purview of DSS. . “I think there are established agencies like the EFCC. We even have a whole outfit, the ICPC – whose mandate is expressly to deal with alleged cases of corruption or financial abuses. . “The role of the DSS is clear – state security”. . . #oshiomhole #dss #efcc #apc #apccrisis #primaries #apcgovernors #amosun #okorocha #naijaupdates #poltrakblog #blogs #news https://www.instagram.com/p/BqEblzhA75E/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=e54yd86ac1a2
