“Hope Carroll” isn’t her real name. If we’re being honest, even she doesn’t remember her name to begin with.

Her parents were innovators of technology, particularly cybernetics, but had fallen far from grace years before the birth of their daughters due to “unethical testing” on individuals from the Zeigta District (they might not have been the only ones behind the experiments, of course, but they certainly were the only ones caught).

She was born a twin; the doctors found cancer in her sister’s bones starting at age 3. No known cure—at least, not one they could afford. Their parents saw nothing wrong in trying their old methods on the healthier of their two children, before implementing their findings on the other.

She is a diabolical thing of their own creation. Frankenstein’s Monster made of mechanical parts; uncertain now of how many “human” pieces she was left with after years of testing. She doesn’t look human. Not with the way metal is left exposed, or the cybernetic left eye that gleams menacingly in the dark. It’s almost impossible to think her someone once made entirely of flesh. Don’t feel sorry for her. Really, she’s better this way.

Is “the Angel” of a Far Cry 5 based cult warning the people of Nueva that they will soon pay for thinking themselves foolish enough to play the role of God. Is loved as much as she is feared by the members (they were the ones who gave her the name “Hope”). She is sweet, if you don’t stare for too long.

Angels are said to be so horrifying in their true forms, humans would go mad if they so much as caught a glimpse of them in their full glory. So, the mainstream has made them smaller, more palatable. But they forget. Only the true believers know an angel’s power: how they are full of eyes, and teeth.

The feeling you might experience after spending a little time with Hope is similar to standing alone at a gas station in the middle of the night. The clerk behind the cash register disappears as soon as you make your payment, and so you’re left, abandoned, it seems, at the mercy of whatever greater force waits for you in the dark.

Completely unbeknownst to himself, he’s actually a synthetic who's been playing scapegoat for his super fucking mysterious owner for something like a decade now. So as far as he (or anyone else) knows, Oriol's 200% bonafide human--but like actually he's just a fail-safe, firewall, body-shaped shield that’s meant for throwing at whatever law enforcement/competitors/enemies/etc should somehow find themselves with the upper-hand. YASIN LORENC / 35 / BLACK MARKET CYBERNETIC SURGEON

- adopted at a young age and raised quite happily until age 11 when his parents decided to adopt phaedra, aka the problem child. despite being five years older suffered under her cruel and manipulative streak, which almost completely sabotaged his relationship with their parents and his faith in authority as they sided with her. - left for college the day he turned 18 and never looked back. worked hard, got good grades, got into medical school. all good until phaedra, always intent on being the center of attention, followed in his footsteps. - still managed to graduate with an md as well as a bs in bioengineering and specialized as a cybernetic surgeon. did his residency with a program fitting synthetic limbs to combat veterans before landing a job at a swanky private hospital. - quickly grew bored by the lack of a challenge and the confines of medical litigation. honestly self-sabotaged a little bit, pushing the limits of what they’d let him do until it all came to a head when a malpractice suit was filed against him—the case was settled out of court but he was let go from the hospital. - went into private practice instead—on the black market. found the excitement he was looking for there, and a lot better pay too. quickly established himself as a cybernetic surgeon that’ll do just about anything for the right price and the freedom to poke around your insides. - badly injured one of his hands in a house fire to the point of losing the majority of its function and had it replaced with a synthetic prosthetic. when the mismatch between synthetic and organic hands interfered with his work, he had the other amputated and replaced as well.  - often known as silverhand in black market circles, a nickname he doesn’t encourage considering its completely obvious once you see his hands. claiming synthetic skin is cumbersome and harder to sterilize, he opts to keep his synthetic hands metal, disguising them with black gloves when he’s not operating.

~50 / SYNTHETIC (REALIST) / PRIVATE EYE & ALL-AROUND NUISANCE

one of the original synthetics created for swingers, where he was known as slick hudson. he played the part of the quintessential Hardboiled Detective and was exceptionally prone to monologuing.

within a decade, he accumulated enough sleuthing skills to discover his true origin and went rogue. his trail went cold because he had his memory wiped somewhere in zeigta. while he forgot everything about his life as slick hudson, he still had the same drive: to help those in need!!

runs sly detective agency and specializes in missing persons cases – particularly if they’ve run cold. interested parties can also recruit him for some light reconnaissance/spying/snooping, but like, he has standards. not many, but he has them.

in addition to finding people who don’t want to be found, atticus can help others disappear... for a price. (synths are free.)

absolutely gets on the nerves of the police because he’s basically made himself at home in their records rooms (which makes it very hard to do crimes in there), and he is always discreetly foiling runners’ attempts to wrangle up other synthetics. oopsie ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

half-prototype, half-relic, he straddles the divide between mechanical and organic synthetics. he ages much slower than the average human, which requires him to live a fairly clandestine life. his face is a bit of a giveaway so he’s taken to hiding under hats and big coats. very noir.

self-aware in that he knows he’s synthetic. he doesn’t know he was part of swingers, but he’s got a Hunch. some of his parts are starting to deteriorate due to age and wear, so he’s gotta keep those exposed wires covered up.

aloof in just about all other aspects that aren’t directly related to sleuthing. his cold electronic heart is in the right place, but he’s v rough around the edges, irrationally defensive, and the definition of obstinate. 

pretends he is only in it for the money, but if atticus had a dollar for every time he got himself emotionally compromised... he’d probably only have like ten dollars but that’s enough for a fancy cocktail at a themed bar so whatever! 🍹
