I am so relieved, I was so scared they would put off Percy’s resurrection until next season, but we got it and it was fantastic and we even got him recovering from it slowly with his cane! What a nice little bonus! Some of y’all better be writing a recovery fic I swear.
Still a little sad he was absent for a lot of the big fights this season, but as long as he is alive I’ll take it.
I’ll definitely be drawing some fluffy Perc’ahlia soon.

Okay am I going crazy? What happened to Diplomacy?? I was rewatching the new episodes of season 3 and I finally noticed that Percy doesn’t have a hole in his hand??? Like he wears gloves most of the time, but at this point we’ve seen Percy without his clothes multiple times this season (😏), I mean it’s possible it’s a gauntlet kinda thing and is removable and that the injury was healed later, but I thought that the point of it was that it was kind of like a prosthesis for when he shot his hand to get rid of Orthax? I mean he’s using it in the main Season three poster, but did I completely misunderstand what diplomacy was?

So im going to throw out a theory I have for the next 3 episodes.. SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVENT WATCHED THE CAMPAIGN
So I have seen a lot of people worried about episode 6 being the shows equivalent of Bard's Lament, which I don't believe for a second. It is possible it will be different when it actually happens, but I do not think the creators would spend all this time building Scanlan's insecurities within the group just for him to peace out quietly like that. But! It does bring up the question of him getting back to the group after he meets with Kaylie.
Now it is pretty clear, given the second half of episode 6, that episode 7 will most likely be Glintshore, which I am beyond excited for I have been waiting since season 1 was airing for this. So when I watched the trailer for season 3, I noticed one shot of the group flying through a rainstorm, and I immediately clocked it as being the part when they travel to Glintshore (I could be completely wrong about this, but im just going based on the campaign as they did have to go through a storm to get to the island).
So I was watching the trailer again for the 100th time and I noticed that in that shot Scanlan is not with them.

I don't think he will be at Glintshore at all. So then when will he come back?
Tumblr media
I think he is going to arrive in Whitestone for the Aftermath™. I think there will be a moment that is essentially -
"Hey guys what'd I miss?"
"WHERE THE FUCK WERE YOU?! PERCY'S DEAD!"
And good god if they do that...the angst of it all..😶
but that's my theory anyways, we'll find out on Thursday

Some thoughts
I’ll start by saying that this is purely MY opinion, and I know that the creators of critical role are the ones behind tlovm and have the right to change things in the show as they see fit, but that doesn’t mean they are immune to critique.
I’ll be honest and say I’m a little upset. Pretty much all the changes from the original campaign I’ve really enjoyed, Vex and Percy’s relationship, the timeline changes, seeing characters who weren’t originally present in the campaign, all of it. But the changes in these last 3 episodes hurt me.
Overall I did like episode 7, Percy and Ripley’s fight was really cool and gorgeously animated, but the outcome disappointed me. We all knew his death coming, it was inevitable, but with these changes it feels a little like it was pointless. Percy does get closer with Ripley, as he’s able to look past his vengeance and offer her a path (which she obviously doesn’t take, but no one was even there to witness it. None of the team was there for the fight, Percy just died alone. And on top of that Ripley got away.
Now I don’t know if this is hinting that there will be another confrontation with her by the end of the season or even in a future season if we get one, but this outcome just makes me feel sad and without closure. Percy managed to destroy the factory, but they came to the Island, Percy died and that’s it.
Now going forward into the next 2 episodes I am equally upset that they didn’t revive him before the Thordak fight, and not simply because it’s not accurate to the campaign (like I said they have a right to change things), but we have spent 3 seasons with these characters, watching them grow from a team into a family, and for one of the family to be missing in the biggest battle of the entire show so far just feels wrong. And at the moment I don’t see the purpose of it. Perhaps it’ll make more sense once we see the last three episodes. But from my perspective right now, I don’t see why they held off on his resurrection.
To be fair the magic of resurrection in the TV show VS the campaign has been very vague. It’s already established that Pike doesn’t know how to resurrect on her own, as it was Kashaw who instigated the ritual when Vex died so I understand that they will probably find another way around it, especially now that Kash is dead (side note I also didn’t like this choice, but again the creators can do what they want with their characters). Personally I think the resurrection will tie in more closely with Vax and the Raven Queen than with Pike. There was that one shot where Vax sees Kash’s soul leave his body, but we didn’t see a scene like that when Vax saw Percy’s body, so I get the sense that there will be some kind of revelation with Vax and maybe another deal with the Raven Queen?
I have faith that Percy’s resurrection is coming, he’s a much beloved character who is not dead in canon, and what’s more has a lasting influence on future campaigns particularly campaign 3. But I don’t love having him absent for so long and that the Ripley fight wasn’t more conclusive, and that Vox Machina wasn’t even there with him. I’m just a little sad.
But again these are just MY personal opinions, and if others really liked these choices then I’m happy for them, I just didn’t. I’m hoping the last 3 episodes will help to change my mind, or make up for it, but I’ll just have to wait until next week

I’m taking a little break from art and writing for a while. I’m in between jobs at the moment, which is stressing me out a lot 🥲 hopefully I’ll find work soon, and then I can get back to working on my fic and more artwork!
