Oh, I can’t wait to see the salt that’s about to erupt after that Pokémon Presents.

I’m not too crazy about the Gen V or VI games, personally, but even I’m surprised they’re just straight up skipping any legends or remake games of V.

Today's Pokémon Presents was very underwhelming... until it wasn't.

We got mobile game updates, new Pokémon from Unite, sleeping Jotho legendaries and yet another TCG app..

Then Pikachu running through a city... Okay? More pokémon appear... they're gen VI Pokémon? Talk of building cities... is this Pokémon Sim City? Are they skipping Gen V remakes and going straight to gen VI?

Nope...

Its LEGENDS! HELL YES! My favorite Pokémon game for the switch is getting a sequel! Also the people who have been asking for pokémon Z since the release of X and Y...well there you go. Its called Legends Z.

I don't even care where its set. I just hope it'll be as good (or better) than Legends Arceus.

Made up my bulletin board all pretty with art and goals for the upcoming New Year! Hopefully staring at Twig cheering me on will get me through writing the last chapter for The Present is a Gift. It’s a real doozy, that one…

Making the art for this was a real treat. I almost like the two mock-ups I made for possible bulletin board layouts more than the finished product!

On the topic of The Present is a Gift’s completion status: I have one chapter left to write, and then the full first draft is done! Once it’s finished I’ll let the manuscript sit for a couple weeks or so and then come back to edit it with fresh eyes. The chapter is giving me a lot of trouble though, because it’s an extended flashback that dives into Darkrai’s backstory from an outside POV, and I am struggling to get into the narrating character’s head enough to write it very well. Nevertheless, I persist, and I’m hoping I can get the pre-edit break period mostly over before the end of December!

Just watched the Pokémon Presents announcement and am honestly pretty excited. What do we predict will happen in the new Legends Z-A game? I think AZ will possibly be a recurring character, hopefully that means we are FINALLY getting an obtainable eternal floette! The ultimate weapon also is probably still there so maybe some villainy will occur with that. Also, since the Lumiose City is stated as being redeveloped in the teaser could we possibly see a future version of Kalos 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I saw that Furfrou too, so maybe we can get all the haircuts for our living dex easier, or maybe they’ll do the Pokémon go post card thing like they did with vivillon in order to get the other hairstyles. The elemental monkeys would also be catchable outside of using Pokémon bank and waiting for Pokémon go events so that’s great too.

A redistribution of Hoopa and Diancie, maybe even Marshadow and Volcanion? Possibly shiny even

As we approach Pokémon Day 2024 I’m once again allowing myself to get my hopes of RBY and/or GSC somehow coming to the NSO service. It probably won’t happen, I have dozens of methods to play the games, officially and unofficially, but I can’t help but want them in the Switch.

In news that will come as a shock to no one at all, 2024 was the year of Artists on Tumblr. But quite right, too, as just a cursory scroll through the fanart, illustrations, digital pieces, paintings, textiles, and more will attest. It’s a goldmine. But this ain’t just any goldmine, this is your goldmine, and we’ve got abundant gratitude for the wonderful work you’ve shared this last year. 

Dungeon Meshi won hearts and minds with its cozy feel, its cookery, its cast of eclectic, likable characters, and a delightfully off-center vibe. Farcille made for the sapphic love story we didn’t know we needed—and the inspiration for endless, exquisite fanart. There was much appreciation for season one, and excitement abounds for season two. But there were endings as well as beginnings, sadly, as the much-loved Jujutsu Kaisen brought six years of sublime storytelling to a close with Chapter 271. Good faced Evil, a nephew faced an uncle, and some really liked it, and others really did not. Discourse ensued, as discourse is wont to do. 

Television! And lots of it! 2024 was the year in which animation ruled supreme with an embarrassment of riches to plunder. Gravity Falls and The Book of Bill became your fall fixations and simply refused to stop trending for seemingly an age (a Good Thing). Bill Cipher and Stanford Pines both made the Top 24 in their own right as you shipped them to high hell, with Billford coming top of Ships for 2024. Speaking of Hell, Hazbin Hotel was the new kid on the block. And, after a five-year wait, the new kid charmed—it was filthier, funnier, raunchier, and more heartfelt than you could have hoped for. 

When it comes to hope, the times continue to be challenging, and the news can threaten to overwhelm. 2024 was no different. But you all painted the dash every color of the rainbow, stood loud and proud, and supported your ever-growing community online and offline in the struggle for LGBTQIA+ rights. While folks continue to voice their distress and concern for the ongoing crisis in Palestine, they also fight the good fight with activism and fundraising efforts across the dash. These may be dark days, but you all work tirelessly for the greater good as only you know how.

Looking after oneself is vital in these trying times, and you’ve all done just that in your own inimitable fashion. Cats still rule Tumblr as bears still poop in woods, and everyone has taken essential time to peruse the dashboard’s plethora of cat GIFs, cat art, boopin’ cats, cats of yore, and so on. You’re keeping things similarly wholesome with some more Tumblr mainstays: cottagecore, and its sister aesthetic, naturecore, imagine a simpler, greener, and quieter time. A time where the breeze billows softly through the long grass and gently turns the blades of the windmill; a time where we, too, might poop in woods.

The only thing more important than looking after oneself is treating oneself, and what better way to do that than gaming? Baldur’s Gate 3 made a most impressive leap from #21 last year to #7 in 2024, as the need for sexy monsters and beautiful beasties becomes ever more imperative with each passing year. Pokémon may have dropped a little from five to 11, but these games and shows still hold a dear place in your hearts—as demonstrated by your bountiful and beautiful fanart.

Meet the new Pokémon editions: Squid Ink & Smokey Flame

Nothing big today. I had more lofty plans where I assigned every major and a few minor characters a Pokémon type and ability, but I couldn't find a good way to present that information in an attractive way in one day, so bug-eyed Squid it is instead.

We are in the final three days. Tomorrow will likely be another comic. But we'll see.
