Aren't side series and spin-offs the same thing?

Maybe, I admit I’m not sure myself.

The term “side series” appears on Bulbapedia to categorize the Stadium games Orre games, and Battle Revolution

I don’t know why they aren’t just called “spin-offs” there. Maybe because of main series mechanics and compatibility? I also don’t think the term is used outside of Bulbapedia. But I included it as an option for the sake of being thorough

I’ve never played the Orre games, but I know fans who swear they should be treated as mainline, and are disappointed characters from it never appear in Pokemon Masters.

I'm playing Pokémon XY again and I will make some comments about team Flare so bare with me

- I actually liked Lysandre because while it was obvious that he's the villain he at least talked normally to you and was like nice until everything got serious

- the grunts and the scientists of team flare were so underrepresented that sometimes I even forgot to connect them to lysandre. Like the grunts were almost made too stupid for a team with sophisticated visions like beauty and saving the earth from human greediness

- his vision is kind of drastic and crazy but like i understand where he's coming from ??? I think it's similar to Cyrus. Just that Cyrus wants to leave this world behind and create a new one while lysandre is more atttached to this world and wants to preserve it. (But then he's just a capitalist being like "I GET TO CHOOSE WHO IS IN THIS WORLD AND YOU HAVE TO GIVE ME MONEY 💅" )

- but in general I was really sad that he DIED. like he could have been arrested or sth but nope they killed him. And I would love to see a redemption arc similar to AZs for him!

- also they should have explored his relationship with sycamore more just saying

One of the first heroes of the Orre Region, an ex-member of a small organization gang who called themselves Team Snagem, and now one of the Shadow Hunters that captures and purify Shadow Pokémon from the dark organization, Cipher. After the events of the first rise of Cipher he and Rui relaxed and ventured outside of the Orre Region. Five years of peace sadly faded as the two heard that the Orre Region is under siege of Shadow Pokémon and Cipher once again…but hope dawned over the land as Michael took down the second rise of Cipher.

One of the first heroes of the Orre Region, and gifted with a special ability to see the auras of Pokémon, especially Shadow Pokémon. Rui joined Wes as the two became a team and Shadow Hunters; using her ability to help Wes identify and capture the shadow Pokémon from the clutches of Team Cipher. After the fall of Cipher’s first rising she and Wes ventured outside of the Orre Region for five years, believing peace is restored in which made the two fall in love and marry to each other! Unfortunately, five years of peace shattered as the Orre Region is now dealing with Cipher once again…causing the two to worry and try to hurry back to the region. Only to find Michael fending off and defeating Cipher for good…or so they thought.

The second hero of Orre, he faced down the second rise of Cipher. Luckily, he wasn’t alone in his fight as his family helped him through with the Pokémon Purification Chamber to purify Pokémon from Cipher. Yet during his journey in fighting Cipher, he wasn’t aware that Wes and Rui were trying to return back to the Orre Region to help Michael with Cipher and rescue Lugia. Thankfully, he succeeded in stopping Cipher, purify and freeing Lugia from Cipher… unfortunately, 19 years of Peace now shattered as the three heard Cipher is back…but all over the world. Yet to their surprise, a certain Gray Fox has been making sure Cipher have a complicated fight with her.
