shout out to fictionkin who rewatch their own source even when its painful, and get excited when they see themselves on screen. i've seen some folks who act like it makes someone "lesser" somehow, like "that's not you, you're fangirling over them," but sometimes its just. so thrilling to see what you once looked like. to gain a new memory that was right on the edge of your consciousness. you dont always have to hate or be ambivalent to who you were in canon. sometimes being separated from yourself gives you a chance to love yourself.

i hated myself somethin' fierce for a very long time, but now that i have a distance from myself, and can see what i went through with more objective eyes... i love who i was. i love how hard i tried. i love who i used to be, and for every life i took i saved another. i love every kid that looked up to me, and all my old teammates. and i've even grown past my old trauma enough to admit to loving things, and loving people, without fearing they'll be taken away from me. i'm trying to love the me that exists in this body, but everything at its own pace.

i don't know what my point is. i'm rambling out loud. just... you're not Not yourself, just because you like who you see on the screen. just because it thrills you to see who you once were. yeah, some fictionkin are going to "like" the person who was their best friend more than they "like" their kintype, because they have memories of the friendship... but sometimes the recognition of who you are is so big and bright and beautiful it outshines all the other feelings. and that's not bad. and it doesnt make you bad at being fictionkin.

Hey chat is it mean to not like the fact that a friend kins a character from a story YOU wrote? Not only that but they kin him WRONG? Like completely mischaracterize who he is as a person until he just kinda has the name and face of your character and is like a fandomized version of who you wrote and poured your heart into? Chat AITA?

Y’all got nothing on me. I made a kin server for my source with an old friend group, posted the link on a public tumblr post, the fucking source creator joined it, didn’t know what kinning was, and when we explained it to him, he STAYED IN THE SERVER FOR LIKE A MONTH OR TWO. And then a while later when the game updated there were references to kin stuff. They put a no doubles joke in the fucking game. And I feel partially responsible because we are the ones who introduced the creator to kin terminology 💀
