🌊 Subtle Aphrodite Worship 🦪
Make your body wash/shampoo/conditioner rose scented
Have a rose or sweet scented candle that you light (doesn't have to be on an altar)
Create a skin/body care routine
Have perfume/cologne that you dedicate to her
Wear jewelry that reminds you of her
Carry a pocket charm that reminds you of her (dove works well in a Christian household and is a sacred animal of hers)
Keep a small picture of her in your wallet
Have a dove or swan stuffed animal
Have imagery of beaches, seafoam, seashells (especially clams), wings, hearts, swans, pearls, or doves around
Wear a locket with a picture of someone you love or of her
Give compliments to strangers
Drink water regularly and dedicate a glass of it to her
Collect seashells (if possible)
Collect things you simply find pretty
Plan your outfits/wear clothes that make you feel good
Keep a journal of poetry dedicated to Aphrodite and love-related topics; can also be a general positivity journal or diary (maybe a diary in a way of writing letters to her but saying a code name instead of "Aphrodite")
Keep heart-shaped imagery around
Embrace yourself; give yourself love
Forgive yourself of past mistakes
Give yourself compliments; start small if needed; I recommend doing this in a mirror
Pin up pictures of loved ones on a mirror or wall
If possible, burn some incense in honor of her; strawberry always has a great smell to it
Watch a love-focused movie (romantic or platonic)
Listen to or read stories about acts of kindness and love
Paint your nails or wear make-up (if you enjoy those things and are able to)
Listen to music that makes you feel good; dance to it like nobody's watching!
Have a party where you and your friends create drawings, items, or crafts that you can decorate your rooms with c:
Start a flower garden, especially with roses; tend to a plant
Practice compassion, especially towards yourself
Fall asleep/meditate to the sound of ocean waves or singing birds
Listen to/sing love songs!
Spend time with loved ones
Have a friend's night; go out on the town together, watch movies, go camping, etc.
Spend time with your pets
Take a shower/bath, especially with rose petals and candles (SAFELY!!!!)
Visit a nearby ocean or body of water; stand in the water (if safe) and ground yourself there
Write about your crushes
Make a list of qualities you'd like in a partner; make a list of qualities you don't want (like green flags and flags)
Take a walk alongside a beach/body of water
Take care of your personal hygiene
-
I may add more to this later, but here is my list of subtle ways to worship Aphrodite so far! Worship can absolutely be discreet, and if it needs to be for safety or the like, know that the gods will almost certainly understand. Take care, y'all! 🩷

In the summers silence, I was getting violent
Glenwood series
Summary: Ranger just wanted to help their best friend move. Little did they know they would completely forget what really happened that night.
Warnings: major character death, a cliff, violence, non-consensual biting.
They /them
They/them Pronouns for ranger.
Word count: 2,087
"Your what?" Rangers eyes open with surprise. Eyes fanticly looked at Isaiah, trying to understand.
" Well, she said she has this nice house off a trial not too far from he -"
"So you're just leaving that quick!"
The room went still. Ranger threw their hand up and stared at Isaiah looking for an answer. He just gave a pleading look back.
"Look," Isaiah sighed. "She says that she needs my help, that my magic could help her turn back!" He flashed a bright smile at ranger. " I could use my powers for something this time, and she says she could teach me more about them."
He looks back at Ranger, expecting a happy face, but all he sees is one of hurt.
"You barely know this girl Isaiah, how are you sure. What if she takes you into the woods to murder yo-"
"She would never, you know this dude. She was a blood mage before, so I think she just sees herself in me.. I guess."
Isaiah begins to take more clothes and carful folds them into his hiking backpack that has a bunch of different patches on it.
Ranger sit on his bed with their head in their arms.
" Have you even told your mom?" Ranger asks, voice filled with worry.
"You know she doesn't care dude, why do you think she sent me to those summer camps, and now she has a new boyfriend to worry about." Isaiah runs a hand through his hair, sighs, and falls into the bed, looking over at his best friend.
"What about me, Isaiah? What if you get hurt and and..." Ranger says as their voice quivers, they look over at Isaiah eyes filled with worry.
"Dude," Isaiah sits up and moves to be next to them. "You are such a mother hen." He pushes rangers hat down infount of their face.
Ranger lets out a few chuckles before they shove him back.
"Trust me, I'll be fine, I'm just going to stay with her for a bit while she trians me. Plus, the trail to her house isn't too far from here."
"You're going to walk to her house now. It's about to pour, and the sun should be setting soon."
Ranger says, glancing outside the windows, the sun is just starting to set, and the sky is filled with black clouds.
Isaiah looks out the window for a bit before looking back at Ranger. "I'll be fineeeee."
"You're going against Hikers code? How about I help you bring stuff? She won't care, right?"
Isaiah looks off for a bit in though before shrugging his shoulders. "I don't think she would care, plus I could use some help."
"Alright, give me 5 minutes." Ranger smiles before rushing out.
They run down the street to their house, they run in quickly, throwing their hat to the side, and began making a bag filled with the essentials as if they had done this before. Flashlight, snack bars, 2 water bottles, a small first aid kit, and their trusty pocket knife.
Huffing trying to catch their breath, they look over to their desk. It's a photo from when Ranger and Isaiah were at prom. Both of their prom dates left them, so they dipped and decided to go to McDonald's still all dressed up. Ranger smiles at the picture, grabs their bag, and rushes out the door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ranger and Isaiah stand at the entrance of the trail. It's one they have done so many times before.
"She said to meet her at the cliff point," Isaiah looks up from his phone to ranger.
"Ok, still a decent hike up, but it's nothing we haven't done before. Did you tell her I'm coming?" Ranger takes their eyes off of the path ahead of them and looked at Isaiah, their gut filled with a bad feeling.
"No, but she shouldn't care. You're just helping me bring something up, and then after I settle in, I should be able to visit you." Isaiah brushes ranger off and begins to walk ahead
"Should? Why wouldn't you visit me?" Ranger asks, still filled with worry.
Isaiah looks back to Ranger as he stops in his tracks. " Well, shes.... she's worried I'll hurt someone." Isaiah looks down
"Isaiah, in your years of knowing me and showing me your magic, have you hurt me?" Ranger walks up and pats his shoulder. "Plus, if you ever need a dummy to practice on, im right here." Ranger flashes Isaiah a toothy smile before motioning forward. "Come on, let's try to beat the moon. The sun is starting to set."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It took about 45 minutes of walking, but two of them slowly made it up the trial into an opening. There are a few signs, 2 picknick tables, and some trash. But the best thing about this part was the view of the cliff. it was a beautiful view of the mountains, trees, and the sun as it finally dipped past the horizon.
Ranger look out, a chill going down their spine as darkness Stared to set in. They grab their flashlight from the side of their bag and flick it on. They shine it towards Isaiah.
"She says she is on her way now." Isaiah smiles as he puts his phone away in his back pocket. He turns his head to look at the view. "It shouldn't be long since she's a vampire, they are quick as fuck." Isaiah smiles.
"This is the skin of a killer, Bella."Ranger throws their head back in laughter at their own joke. Isaiah begins to laugh back. It take a minute for them to gain their composure back.
"So what are you going to do while I'm doing this?" Isaiah asks, facing Ranger as he crosses his arms at them. Ranger looks at him for a second before looking out at the view.
"Might become a park ranger."
They srug their shoulders.
"That.... actually sould perfect." Isaiah chuckles to himself, "you always are a sucker for the outdoors.... and rules."
Ranger gives a playful shove to Isaiah as he laughs. "Just becaus-"
"OH ISAIAH!!" A high pitch voice calls out from behind them. They both turn to face who was calling the name.
"Charlotte!" Isaiah runs over to her and opens his arms out wide. She quickly denied the hug and gives him a pat on the shoulder. "Oh, you know I'm not the huggin-..." She stares at ranger, red eyes glowing in the light from their flash light.
"Hey Charlotte " they give a quick response.
Charlotte turns to face Isaiah. "Isaiah, doll I though we talked about this." She gave Isaiah a look of pity.
"They just wanted to help me up here, that's all." Isaiah lowers his smile, and his brows scowl together.
"Yeah, is there a problem with that." Ranger quips back.
Charlotte stants and looks back and forth between the two before speaking. " Isaiah, may I speak to you privately for a minute."
Isaiah frowns at her before looking at Ranger. "Yeah ,sure." Ranger takes the idea and goes to sit at one of the picknick tables. They slunch down and start to pick at the table. A water drop falls on their head. They look up and see a cascade of water falling. They were to focus in the rain, and suddenly, a shout catches their attention.
"Look, Charlotte, if you don't like them, I don't care their my best friend, and I'm not just going to leave them!" This is followed a harsh slap. Isaiah stumbles to catch his body , holding his stinging cheek, and he quickly looks back at Charlotte.
"You are going to get them killed, don't you notice th-" Charlotte catches rangers punch right before it hits her face. She breathes out. " I don't have time for this."
She shove ranger back, and they go flying. Their body rolls back into the now muddy path. They cough as the wind was knocked out of them. Isaiah looks over to his best friend he then trys to launch his body towards them, but before he can, he is pulled back by the back of his neck. He was forced to look at Charlotte, and he bagan to hear a ringing in his ear as his vision started to fade.
Charlotte was mouthing words he couldn't hear. Suddenly, Charlotte was knocked out of concentration as a body collided with her. Hands trying their best to grab at Isaiah. She drops Isaiah and turns and hits Ranger in their face. A loud crack fills the air as Ranger stumble back, holding their nose. trying to get a sense of their surroundings. Everything was too much. The rain, the mud, the pain, the worry. Their eyes open to face Charlotte. " I'll tell the Bureau, the- this has to be illegal."
"OH would you just shut it."
Ranger is quickly grabbed by the Throat... they cough and grab at her hands. Eyes bulging, they frantically look around. Their eyes land on Isaiah, whose body layed close to the edge of the cliff. He slowly shakes his head up his arms hold his face up from the mud. He's covered in mud, he tries to stand but as he does the ground from under him slips...
Ranger watches, and they frantically try to claw out of her grip. They let out a horse. "ISAIAH!" Everything feels as if it was in slow motion. Isaiah body begins to quickly slide off the side of the cliff. He frantically tries to grab at the ground, but it's no use. The whole chunk of ground he was on was mud. Mud that was slipping of cliff. Charlotte let go of ranger their body begin to fall to the ground. Just like Isaiah. They tried to reach out, but it was not use.
Isaiah body fell, ranger knew from the sick tud they heard.
Rangers body begin to shake, they started to hyperventilate, this wasn't happening. They wanted to believe that Isaiah was safe right next to them. But every blink of their eyes showed his helpless eyes right before the fall. The sick and wet thump of his body hitting the ground. They screamed.
They only thing that pulled them from this downward spirle was Charlotte yell. "Son of a bitch!" She quickly threw her gaze at ranger. "You!"
Before ranger could speak, her hands were around their neck. "Do you have any idea of what you've done!"
Ranger eyes bulged out as they stared at her. They felt anger build up in their chest. They weren't going to let her get away with this. They quickly grabbed their trusty pocket knife and slammed it into her arm. The next thing they knew, they were slammed into a tree. Everything hurts, their body, their mind, and slowly Charlotte walks up to them. With one hand, she grabs the side of their throat and brings them up to their feet. She stares at them as if she's deciding something. Then her eyes light up, her fangs show as she shows a crazy smile. "At least you can be a blood bag." Rangers eyes look up at her in fear as
She forcefully tilts their head to the side and CRUCH. Ranger trashes against the bite, pain racing threw them.
they feel paralyzed. Their eyes slowly begin to close, but just as they due Charlotte takes her mouth off their throat. A hand opens one of their eyes forcefully. "Im not done with you." She growls and grabs them by the sholders. They see her lips move, but they can't hear anything but ringing. Only something about magic? They panic as they are draged but too tired to fight it off. Suddenly, the ground slips from them... they are falling...THUD.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hotshot?" Ranger head snaps over to Clare, their eyes soften when they see her. She walks over and places an unbrela over the two of them.
"You know, for someone as smart as you, I would think you would be smart enough to not sit out in the rain." Claire, look at them and hold out a hand. Ranger gladly accepts it and is pulled out of their seat. A hand gently glides them inside. "We just got you all fixed up. I don't need you to get sick now." Claire chuckles before putting the unbrela down. "Stay here. I'll go get you a towl. Clare walks away from Ranger to go retrieve a towel. Ranger watches her go, and then they look outside at the rain. The ground was slowly mixing into mud.
Trans Tips for Camp Staff
(This is going to be long)
General tips:
Bring a small bag/backpack to carry throughout the day. Bring a large water bottle. Use more sunscreen than you think you need. Focus on your campers and have fun!
Cabins/bathrooms:
Camps will have different policies about accommodations. Some will offer gender neutral opinions. Some cabins may also have change rooms. Check the kind of accommodations your camp offers, and voice your cabin preferences as soon as possible. If you’re worried about privacy, you can request to change in a bathroom or practise inside a sleeping bag.
Binding/tucking:
You will likely be working long hours and exercising. It will be uncomfortable and unsafe to bind/tuck for the full work day. Do not put yourself at risk. It sucks, but your safety is a top priority. You can keep a binder/gaff in your bag and change in bathrooms. If you put a binder on at the beginning of the day, put a sports bra in your bag to change later. If you use (safe) tape, make sure you follow product instructions and slowly remove it with oil (vegetable oil is a cheap option).
Breast forms/packers:
You will sweat more in the summer, this could make packers or breast forms uncomfortable. If you’re using prosthetics, make sure to wash them often and follow care instructions. A shower or single stall washroom is the best place to wash. You can keep them in a ziplock bag, inside a backpack or suitcase pocket for cleanliness and privacy. Socks might be a better choice for camp as they are more discreet and can be washed with your laundry.
HRT:
Camps will have different policies on staff medication. Check with the healthcare team about where staff meds will be kept. If you’re staying in cabin and use injections, you may need to request some time in a private area to do your injections.
Showers:
Showers will likely be inconvenient for all staff. Your camp may or may not offer gender neutral showers. Dry shampoo is great if you don’t have time/too dysphoric too shower, but is not a replacement. The shower is probably the best area too shave.
Swimming:
Some camps require all staff to be on the water with campers (with exceptions for accessibility concerns). This is a matter of camper safety. Avoid cotton swim shirts, they increase the risk of hypothermia, an old non-cotton exercise shirt can be a good option. Some camps will have dress codes for swim wear.
High Challenge:
Some camps will offer high challenge courses. These may require staff to wear a belay harness. Harnesses can induce dysphoria, especially for people with penises.
Managing dysphoria:
Try to make friends with people who will affirming your gender. If comfortable, you can wear a pronoun pin. Bring clothes/hygiene products you enjoy. Camp will be busy, try to focus on having fun with your campers! If you’re struggling with mental health, tell a trusted supervisor as soon as possible.
Kids:
Kids will probably have a lot of questions, some might be about your gender. You only need to answer whatever your comfortable with. Otherwise you can just say “that’s private” or something similar. If a parent is concerned about trans staff, direct them to a supervisor, that shouldn’t be your responsibility.
Bullying/discrimination/harassment:
If you experience any of this, report it as soon as possible. Your camp should have an anti bullying and/or anti harassment policy, refer to it for next steps.
Feel free to ask anymore questions!
Disclaimer: this is based off my experience as a white, able bodied, openly trans man working at a fairly progressive overnight camp in “Canada”/turtle island. I have worked there for 4 years (one year round) in counselling, programming, and leadership/supervising positions.
Thanks for the tag @mysticstarlightduck!
Character Profile Tag
Full Name: Ivander Montane
Kind of Being: Mixed human, elven, dwarven, siren, and Daramakti (alien, but he doesn't know that) heritage
Age: 31
Gender: cis man
Appearance: Ivander is a man of medium height and an unremarkable build, with a hawkish sort of face. His skin is pale enough to show off the blue blood beneath, lending him a cerulean hue. His eyes, also, are a shade too turquoise to be human. His hair is black and slicked back, and he has a pencil mustache and goatee he keeps neatly trimmed. His ears are oddly double-pointed. All of this is an illusion, however. Ivander’s true face is ruined by a flesh-eating curse. He wears bandages under his clothes to keep the blood off, and much of his ears, nose, lips, and eyelids are beginning to be eaten away. The only sign of this in his daily life, though, is the cane he walks with and the gloves he wears to keep from leaving behind bloody fingerprints. His fashion sense otherwise is impeccable, consisting of beautifully tailored suits in flattering colors.
Occupation: A detective for the Unity Bureau of Arcane Investigation, a subsidiary of their police force.
Family Members:
Antonin Montane (estranged father who neglected him for his entire childhood and who keeps an abusive hold on the entire Montane family through controlling the family fortune)
Marius Montane (uncle who raised him despite the turmoil he endured as Antonin's younger brother)
Idrin Pashan-Baijahreet (mother who went missing when he was eight, a former merchant of the Flying City)
Tomas Montane (an older cousin he looked up to)
Eva Montane (a younger half-sister he doesn't know about, as she was born after he cut contact)
Pets: Hell no
Best friends: Ceyrel Gavorn is his partner at the BAI and has been his only friend for about a full decade now. She's an ornery hobgoblin with a crude sense of humor that one might think Ivander would turn his nose up at, but they both have a love of salacious gossip that bonds them together.
Describe their room: Ivander’s entire apartment is color-coded, so his whole bedroom is purple. The walls are an icy periwinkle with ivy patterns, while the curtains are a powdery mauve. His sheets and rugs are plush and a dark plum color, over a hardwood floor. Given how fastidious he is in everything else, it's a surprisingly messy space. Dirty clothes line the floor, and there's a mountain of old cups and pill bottles on his bedside table. His wardrobe is well kept, but very overstuffed. His bed is completely unmade and covered with bloodstains he just can't keep up with washing out anymore.
Way of speaking: Camp english accent - he sounds like a gay-coded villain in a kid's cartoon. He uses lots of big words and underhanded insults.
Physical characteristics (posture, gestures, attitude): Ivander’s posture is meant to lean. He usually drapes himself in some doorframe or another, or slouches onto a chair. From the way he moves, you can clearly tell he's in pain. From the way he moves, you can also tell he grew up at fancy dinners and investment meetings.
Items in their back pocket/purse: Eyedrops, bandages, meds, rune handbook, teeny tiny pistol.
Favorite sports: Ivander would rather die than do or watch a sport. If you tell him you're an athlete, he'll laugh.
Powers: The ability to pull miracles from a mostly unwilling god and to write an unbreakable contract.
Relationships (how they are with other people): Ivander is the king of intimacy issues. He's terrified of getting close to people, since the last person he was close to disappeared in the night. He puts up a jaded, bemused, and even cruel front to cover up his aching loneliness. He'd much rather hurt you than allow you to hurt him.
Fears: Death and damnation, living in pain forever, getting close to someone and proving to himself once and for all that he's incapable of overcoming the selfishness he was born into.
Faults: Ruthless, selfish, elitist, gossipy, cruel like a middle school bully. He can just be a real asshole when he wants to, and refuses to ask for help. He's also utterly blind to his positive qualities.
Good Points: Determined, brave, clever, cares deeply about the few friends he does have. Genuinely the last person you'd expect to be truly heroic, but he does manage despite himself. When he lets himself be, Ivander is a highly empathetic person.
What they want more than anything else: To cure the curse that's killing him.
I'll tag @the-golden-comet @leahnardo-da-veggie (this blorbo's for you, my guy) @sergeantnarwhalwrites @willtheweaver @finickyfelix and anyone else who wants in :)
Blanks under the cut
Sorting Hat Chats: Heroes of Olympus
I did not write this, this is an original from @sortinghatchats. I found it on the wayback machine like two years ago and have had it saved in my notes. So this is my contribution to y'all's recovery efforts! Not sure whether to give credit to Inky or Kaden, let me know :)
OK, so I sometimes give speeches on long road trips about the Slytherinness of Percy Jackson. THAT KID. His fatal flaw is canonically that, forced to choose between the world and his friends, he would choose his friends. Slytherin Primary, all the way. Kid’s almost running around waving a banner with his hair dyed silver and green.
He’s also a Slytherin Secondary. Yeah, I know, the kid’s loud and coarse and a bit of a bro (he is. I love him, but he is). But Percy thinks rapidly on his feet, adapts to dangers by snapping up whatever weapon (physical, godly, mental, emotional) is nearest at hand, and is shamelessly, easily comfortable with using others for his own gain.
When the chips are down, the only thing he cares about are his inner circle: Annabeth, his mom, and sometimes Grover and Tyson. He’s content to use and sometimes destroy useful bystanders like Nico and “Bob,” to keep his people safe. He may like Nico and Bob, even empathize if someone like Annabeth isn’t in immediate danger, but at the end of the day he would (and does) trade their happinesses and safety for their utility.
But Percy doesn’t look like a traditional Slytherin/Slytherin. The boy is not smooth. The kid is not slipping around corners and cleverly avoid ruffling feathers while he steals his victories out from other peoples’ pockets. Percy lives almost always in his neutral state— this is something we talk about more deeply in our Slytherin Secondary post. But the neutral state is when a Slytherin isn’t using the code-switching and ease that is inherent to this secondary. Most Slytherin Secondaries only do this at home, when they are safe, relaxed, and in the company of only their most trusted people. It is literally dropping your guard. And Percy leaves his emotional guard hanging pretty much all the time; he’s bluntly and rather uncouthly on his sleeve. But the moment physical danger sets in, he goes full torpedoes ahead with a guile that is rough-edged but certainly present.
I’ll sort the rest of the Seven, Nico, and Reyna under the cut, hopefully with a little less verbiage. Slight spoilers forBlood of Olympus, but I did try to be a vague as possible.
Annabeth, my brash, bright, idealist darling, whose greatest desire is to rebuild a broken world anew, and whose fatal flaw is hubris and pride, is a Ravenclaw Primary. She is right, certain, and willing to sacrifice herself for the things she values. Clever, studious, prepared, she’s also a Ravenclaw Secondary.
Piper literally has the Slytherin Secondary as a superpower. Now, her charmspeak wouldn’t actually have any effect on her actual Secondary (your skills don’t matter as much as the methods you want, or respect in tactics). But Piper uses her charmspeak like her lungs by the end of the series, and even in flashbacks we find her conning people into giving her cars.
She House shares with Percy, actually: Slytherin/Slytherin, though she has a Hufflepuff Performance where Percy just… doesn’t… bother. Piper’s Slytherin Primary is most apparent in her dedication to her friends, and her decision over the course of The Lost Hero to sacrifice even them to save her father (a decision I’m not sure she’d make by the end of the series, when she’d bonded further to them).
Jason is a Hufflepuff Primary raised in a world of Gryffindors—so, yeah, the kid looks really Gryffindor. But he learns to shuffle off the righteousness and rigidity of Roman life, and to embrace his own quieter service, empathy, and thoughtfulness for not only his crew, friends, and two camps, but also each of the forgotten gods. He’s at his most comfortable with a community to call his own that doesn’t demand his Heroism, and cause to dedicate his life to that involves serving and supporting people, not fighting for or leading them.
His Secondary is Gryffindor—he earnestly and honestly charges his problems (his straight forward attempts to reassure Nico during the Cupid thing; the honesty and integrity Piper appreciates in him). Because his internal drive and motivations aren’t Gryffindor, he doesn’t look that obvious— his goals are often things like keeping the peace aboard ship, making sure everyone else has the things they need, and getting knocked out during fights.
Leo reads a bit like a Slytherin, but i think he’s just a burned Puff Primary. Clearly a loyalist House, he’s guarded and sarcastic, bitter and a bit jaded, and doesn’t throw himself out with sacrifice and service the way Puffs like Jason might. He builds little communities, and big dragons. But while he likes Piper and Jason, or Hazel, his bonds aren’t anywhere near the intensity of true Slytherin Primaries like Piper or Percy. This suggests what he actually is is a burned Puff, a Hufflepuff Primary who’s been hurt enough that they keep their warmth close. When Leo does make decisions around people, it tends to be need-based rather than value-based— he’ll give up some of the people he loves because someone else who he loves, someone lonely and left *cough*, needs him more.
Ravenclaw Secondary for the kid, of course. Leo Valdez, my tiny engineer friend, you tinker on.
Hazel’s got a lot of layered-on traumas, losses, guilts, and misplacements that make her a little hard to sort*— her curse, her first death and her almost bringing Gaea’s apocalypse about early, her rebirth in a century not her own. But as she becomes more comfortable and confident throughout the second series, she begins to fall into a validating system of action, justice, and bravery. Her morality seems to be felt, and she is most at home with her weapon in hand, on Arion’s back, charging a clear foe with a clear conscience—she read, to me, like a Gryffindor who has stubbornly pulled herself out of a “stripped” state, with the help of some big hearts like Frank and Jason.
(*Note: traumas do not make you less of your own House, or even less obvious of a House, exactly. What I mean here is that it’s harder to Sort someone burned as much as Hazel has been from the outside. Hazel’s got so much jammed inside of her, and even her POV is secretive enough in the first book, that she’s not obvious until she relaxes and confides in the reader a little more).
Frank, dear Frank, with his willingness to burn himself out (literally) on Alaska’s icy plain, is a warm and solid Gryffindor Primary. That wasn’t about who needed him or who he loved; it was about right and wrong, and he was going to do right or die trying. A kind and worried rule follower, he seems to have Hufflepuff Secondary he feels like he should suppress. The Roman Legion is very much a Gryffindor-present-or-go-home kind of space— both Frank and Jason put on Gryffindor Models to fit in and feel at home. But where Jason is secretly a warm ball of Hufflepuff Primary, Frank actually is a Gryffindor Primary. The problem is, he doesn’t think his Gryffindor, his honestly strong and staunch sense of right and noble sacrifice, is good enough. So he models a more “brave” Gryffindor on top. Frank’s ascension to praetor, as Jason gives it up, was a beautiful step in both their journeys.
Reyna’s Hufflepuff Secondary manifests itself in her dedication to doing things right, her (if stiff) kindness, her strength-sharing powers, and the care and emotion that earn her Pegasus’s honor. It’s her Gryffindor Primary, however, that earns her Athena’s respect—her refusal to stand down and her dedication.
Nico di Angelo is a stunning Hufflepuff Primary. He loses his time, his world, his sister, any sense of safety at the camps of in his “friends,” any sense of home but perhaps a squat beside the River Styx— and when the world needs him, Nico doesn’t even think twice before running himself ragged trying to shut the doors of Death and defy Gaea. He’s not even part of the prophecy. He’s not liked, respected, or even wanted by almost anyone. But he shows up. He does what he can. He disappears without any expectation of respect, gratitude, or care. Thank goodness for people like Hazel, Frank, Jason, and Will.
Nico’s not even quite a burned Puff. He doesn’t build himself a community (except for arguably Hazel), but he still takes it on himself to save and serve the world.
It’s his secondary, more than his primary I think, that takes the brunt of his losses. He might have been a very young Ravenclaw secondary (cards! stats!) in his first appearance, and no matter how “dark” demigod he might be, the boy’s no Slytherin Secondary, but what his secondary actually is is rather unclear. He’s been beaten, stripped, and disillusioned. No tools feel comfortable in his hands. He’ll do whatever he has to do get the job done, and he doesn’t like any of it. The blossoming way he responds to Reyna and Hedge’s companionship, mutual respect, and affection however suggests he might be growing into a Hufflepuff Secondary once he finds a place or hearts safe enough to lay down roots.
(I hope so. Kid needs a break).
tl;dr
Percy and Piper are both Slytherin/Slytherins– deeply, sometimes destructively loyal, and masters of thinking quick and sideways on their feet.
Annabeth is the sole Ravenclaw Primary. She shares a Ravenclaw Secondary with Leo, who’s a burned Puff.
Frank, Reyna and Hazel are all Gryffindor Primaries, with Jason the odd Hufflepuff out. Frank and Reyna have Puff secondaries they try to cover up with Gryffindor models (hello Rome), while Hazel and Jason both have Gryffindor’s charging Secondary. They’re both most at ease facing their problems head on and with honest integrity.
Nico is a Hufflepuff, burned in terms of letting himself have nice things, but not burned in terms of feeling like he needs to save the world, even if it keeps spitting on him.
What is your experience with Animal Crossing?
Okay it has been literally over three months since you sent this so I apologise I just have a lot to say and wanted to enjoy going on about Animal Crossing.
My first was Animal Crossing Wild World, which I saved up for and bought, even pre-owned it was expensive for primary school me. I did not know much about the game and it was years before I realised that the copy hadn't been wiped so I'd walked into someone else's town. I'm guessing someone called George, since my town was named Egroeg. But by that point I'd been playing for so long I didn't want to wipe my progress. Also by then I had realised that he had upgraded Nook's to the highest version, which would have been hard for me to replicate because it involved playing multiplayer and I only had one other friend with the game. I really loved ACWW, and I spent lots of time playing it even though I definitely didn't understand a lot of elements of the game. My friend and I spend loads of time imagining things we'd love to add to the game, like if you could get a job (paying that loan off in shells is hard!) and I thought it would be cute if you could drive around in a little car that had a boot for extra inventory space (backpacks fill up a lot when things don't stack). I became best friends with Kiki in this game and when she moved I was so sad that I planted a tree where her house had been thinking that would stop another house taking her place (I was wrong, but it's the thought that counts).
I did get AC Let's Go to the City for the Wii, but never racked up many hours on that because being console based I'd have to find time when the family wasn't using the TV. I definitely prefer it as a handheld game.
I got given Animal Crossing New Leaf for my birthday when it released and I maintain this is best AC game. I still love it so much. I love that they introduced the mechanics of town design, most notably that Roost was a stand alone cafe and you got to choose where to place it!!!!! I think this might be around the time I first started following you (saxyplaya hehe) I assume because I found you from looking for QR codes for designs. I am still obsessed with so many of the QR code dresses people came up with. I think ACNL had the best balance of effort to output. Like it had these town design features but still took ages to do things. You had to grow trees from scratch and grow them again if you placed em wrong. This made everything feel more satisfying though, imo. You really put in the hours, and days and weeks, so the results would make me feel proud. I love that there are so many fruit tree varieties, I love visiting the island, I love that you CAN work at the Roost and that Brewster would give you coffee rewards. The updates they made with Happy Home Designer and the campsite, including adding the 'god mode' furniture design thing did make things a lot easier. But I like actually that to see anything you have to actually put it on/put it in the room, in your cupboards everything is just the generic category icon. I still have not caught all the bugs and fish in this game. I THINK I have all the fossils, but I think it makes it more fun for longer if it's not so easy to catch everything. I love the shopping street, and slowly unlocking the buildings. I love that little bench at the end of the street looking out. I think the music in this game is so lovely too, and one of my most favourite things is walking around on a rainy day in my town. I also actually loved that it was always the opposite weather hemisphere-wise, often I'd log in in irl winter so I could feel warm and vice-versa.
I also just love the graphics and look and feel of the game. The characters are still sassy and have a lot of personality. I always think fondly of my neighbour O'Hare, because his birthday is two days after mine. Now I could wax rhapsodic about ACNL al day but I should move on!
I freely admit I did obsessively play AC Pocket Camp for like a year or two when it came out (maybe longer??) to fill the void while I waited to see if there would be a Switch game. My partner also got me the original GameCube Animal Crossing for Christmas, which I played a little, but we don't usually have the GameCube set up and see above my preference of handheld play for AC. Still, a very cute present that I love having.
The second they Switch was announced, I said that I would be holding off on buying one until I saw if they put out a new AC game with a console to match. And I am SO glad I did because I was able to get the console and the game when they came out and I think the console is sooooo pretty. ACNH is really fun as well, I do like the addition of terraforming, being able to place furniture outside, and that they went really ham on the graphics. While I think I still have more of a soft spot for the older graphic style, I love things like the raindrops on the windows and the furniture blowing as the fan goes over it, etc etc those little tiny additions really melt my heart. I do feel like they smoothed out the characters too much, they don't have as much personality as they used to. And as much as so many things are easier (changing clothes, furniture, moving trees and plants, catching all fish/bugs and fossils) I think I preferred it when it was a bit more challenging. I wish the Roost was separate still </3. I loved the addition of Island Designer, I find that so fun, and I love the glowing moss furniture, and being able to design villager's houses (given that sometimes they start to look really dogshit after I've been gifting them my garbage furniture sorry guys). I don't send letters as much in this game as I used to, idk why exactly it just never seemed as fun or important in ACNH. I like the addition of cooking, more just because it tickles me personally. I'm back and forth on the crafting mechanism. I think overall I like it, and in many ways it's a return to the challenging aspects I just went on about loving in the previous game in terms of it being an involved process (esp if you want to change the colours), but I think that tools breaking SO fast annoys me and that even gold tools break annoys me heaps. Overall I do still enjoy ACNH, and I'm actually glad that it introduced the game to a whole lot of new people because it's widened the audience of people I can ramble about AC to. I do wish I had gone with the other hemisphere weather, I went back and forth on that and I discovered I actually prefer it NOT aligning with my real life weather so it can serve as an escape.
Thank you for asking me this question, in case you can't tell I love talking about Animal Crossing it is definitely one of my favourite game series of all time <3
dump all your ideas abt ur summer camp au i want to hear it
ahhhhhh first of all anon ily <333
here’s my ideas for the summer camp au so far :)
- it’s called quesadilla summer camp (im so creative lmao)
- the camp was created on an experiment. if it went well, they would implement the plans on a larger scale. (what’s the experiment? it’s assumed it has something to do with crossing the language barriers but no one actually specifies)
- all participants get college scholarships
- but the whole thing is really badly executed? like it just does not have the set up or functionality of a normal summer camp
- there’s just very little supervision or guidance
- the camp is run by some version of the duck, and they’re very uninvolved which leads cucurucho and zero to just Not Care.
- counselors are rubius, cucurucho, and the code entity
- the code entity goes by zero
- zero really doesn’t talk but they all learn pretty easy it’s how fucking awful of an idea it is to piss them off
- cucurucho and zero are they/it besties
- rubius is the same age/around the same age as the campers, cucurucho and zero are older
- sometimes one the campers walks into their cabin and sees an entirely new person in their cabin, which is normal. they switch cabins constantly
- the first week people just keep. randomly wandering off. “where’s wilbur?” two hours later wilbur walks out of the woods with a rock. (not even like a cool rock. it’s just a normal fucking rock)
- phil’s the mom friend. but he’s still a disaster. he’s just the only one with any shred of responsibility. he’s also just got an aura of trustworthiness that makes everyone trust him with their problems
- fit is just. so chill
- he also just? always has what you need? “yeah sorry it’s a bit hot in here, a screw that seemed important fell out of the fan earlier so we haven’t turned it on yet” “oh! i think it’s in here- nope screwdriver’s in the left pocket, where did you say the screw was?”
- dan just kinda disappears for a bit? cucurucho tells the campers he went on vacation but they don’t entirely believe them. dan comes back a little different.
- spreen is always either starting chaos or nowhere to be found
- quackity manages to keep putting himself in the middle of like every problem whether he’s involved or not
- however charlie pretty much is always involved
- luzu is had DID and arin is an alter
- luzu does know about arin but he was just diagnosed and is still figuring it all out
- roier flirts with everyone (except jaiden, he respects her boundaries)
- wilbur brought his guitar with him and sings at the campfire some nights
- charlie only joins in on the meme songs
- jaiden finds the most. random shit. “hey guys i found $20 stuck to the bottom of the picnic table with a piece of gum” “oh dude look! a patch of four leaf clovers!” “woah look at this cool bottle cap i just found!”
- maximus is a conspiracy theorist but in like a, hey this actually genuinely makes sense kind of way
- bad is terrified of spiders
- he saw one in the bathroom of his cabin and was completely moved in to a different cabin within seven minutes
- roier finds this hilarious
- foolish and vegetta are dating. no one knows how they got together or when they got together. if you ask either of them, you’ll get two completely different answers
- the brazilians join two-ish weeks in
- they all arrive together in a bus together and have already formed a Friendship on the journey there
- the bus was almost set ablaze 4-6 separate times (depends on your definition on separate)
- there is an extremely done cucurucho driving the bus
- forever sees phil and immediately turns to tell felps how that is the man of his dreams
- mike and pac are inseparable. they’re just kind of always within the vicinity of each other.
- cellbit, bad, foolish, and maximus attempt to take over the camp together. it doesn’t go as planned.
Gale x GN!tav fanfic :)
Includes: Angst (they both die), Marriage, other companions (referenced)
imma be honest i wrote this instead of sleeping, so no beta read we die like Gale-
i never write fanfic so i am very sorry if it reads weird LMAO
oh yea and this is a Hozier lyrics omg i love hozier so much, Gale is so hozier coded :,v
Short Summary:
Gale uses the orb and Tav insists on dying with him-
that's literally it.
~~~
Gale tried to push Tav away, tried to save them from inevitable death.
Yet Tav insisted, insisted of not leaving Gale when the explosion happens, they wanted to be with Gale even in his final moments.
on one hand it flattered Gale, made his heart feel full and warm that Tav deeply cared.. cared so much they were ready to die with Gale.
"why.. Tav you have your whole life to enjoy, free of tadpoles and the absolute"
he questioned one night, possibly their last night together.. well, their last night together before they enter the land of the dead hand in hand.
They promised themselves to get married one day, when they are free of the Tadpoles and when the hectics were over.
Tav was so excited to meet Gales mother, to meet Tara and to walk the streets of Waterdeep proudly holding their lovers hand.
Gale suggested a beautiful pair of rings, describing it like he had put thought into it.
"it would be two golden rings, purple swirls would delicately decorate it and a glistening dark purple, almost wine red gem would be embedded into the ring. Our names engraved in each others ring"
Tav repeated those words to themselves almost every night, the image of a small wedding in nature, friends and family all enjoying each others company on a day of love and devotion.
"because I could never allow myself to love again, knowing my true love is blown to ashes"
Tav sighed, leaning their head on Gales shoulder as they both watched the campfire crackle quietly, as if it was trying to soothe them.
"I couldn't live with myself knowing you're gone."
Gale sighed.. there was no getting through to Tav and convincing them to live and in some way, it made Gale feel a little save.
~~~
They had let the moment rest, told no one around camp and tried enjoying their last days or weeks alive.
It was never anything fancy, visiting whatever was left of the shadowcursed lands and reading long into the night under a single oil lamp in Gales tent, cuddled in each others arms and each had a book in their hands.
Then it was time, the heart of the absolute infront of the team and everyone knew.
They all knew what was going to happen.
And without a word spoken, they all hugged, sighing deeply and everyone was holding back tears, even Lae'zel and Astarion couldn't hold the threshold anymore.
Gales hand moved precisely, magic swirling around the others and just like it was planned, everyone was send far away, further than waterdeep, further than faerun, further than any population.. in safety.
everyone, except Tav.
~~~
Tav walked over to Gale and despite the situation there was a soft, reassuring smile on their face.
"I thought we would have a few more days.."
Tav said in a solemn voice, taking Gales hands in theirs.
I've never known peace,
like the damp grass that yields to me
Gale tried so hard not to cry, but despite all efforts he had to blink away a tear or two, looking at his lovers face he felt like the world stopped. It had always been like that, Gale felt completely devoted to Tav, so in love he could simply watch Tav for hours.
"I know this may be a bad moment, but.."
Tav sighed, letting go of one of Gales hand to grab something from his pockets, a small sound of jewellery jiggling followed.
"Gale, my love. Even if death is one breath away, would you marry me?"
I've never known hunger,
like these insects that feast on me.
Tav's gaze and words were flooded with love and sincerity, in their hands, two golden rings.
two golden rings, a pinkish purple swirl decorated the rim and a wine red-ish purple gem sat on top.
Gale could only whisper a weak "yes" with a nod, he feared that if he spoke any more his voice would break and cause this beautiful moment to end early.
Tav smiled, tears welling up in their eyes and they slid the ring onto Gales finger, Gale imitating the gesture on Tav's hand gently.
A thousand teeth.
And yours among them, I know
our hungers appeased.
Our heartbeats becoming slow.
"we're Husbands now"
Gale chuckled through quiet sobs and intertwined their fingers, sharing a soft kiss before placing their foreheads together.
They knew it was time, they wouldn't have much longer.
Standing beside each other they looked ahead, hands still locked tightly together.
Soft "I love you"'s were exchanged, soft glances and caresses and a few little kisses before Tav sighed.
Brushing a hand through Gales hair and releasing the man-bun he wore, letting the others hair fall ever so softly, the deep brown and grey stands encapsulating Gales features so beautifully.
We lay here, for years or for hours.
Thrown here or found,
to freeze or to thaw.
If the moment wasn't so dire they would've laughed, mainly at how cheesy and lovey dovey they acted combined with the groups chuckle.
Which was missing, it was quiet except the ambient noises of the heart of the absolute.
They fell into each others arm and closed their eyes.. and it was over.
So long, we'd become the flowers.
Two corpses we were,
two corpses I saw.
It didn't hurt and for a split second that in the moment felt like a lifetime they remembered their time, their love and their friends.
remembered all the trials and errors, finding magical artefacts and helping whoever came across their path of their own saving.
When the weather gets got.
After the insects have made their claim.
Happy memories, Sad memories, Angry and every possible emotion they endured and worked through. it was all gone, all quiet.
They expected to be cold, but in their embrace all they felt in their last breath was love.
They didn't care if their bones survived, if their rings survived..
This was their last moment, loved, warm.. and content.
I'd be home with you.
I'd be home with you.

Tonight’s late-night worldbuilding churn is me returning to the magical girl idea I’ve been rotating in my mind on and off for the past couple of months, because I realised that the powers I’d given to the protagonist actually work better on the antagonist, and now I need to reshuffle everybody. Again.
I’ve been internally categorising magical girl powers using pairs of keywords; for instance, my brainy magical girl has the keywords “multiply” and “control”, and can summon and telekinetically control dozens of flying knives simultaneously - but a different magical girl with the same keywords might have the ability to generate chains and restrain people (waggles eyebrows), or control a swarm a la Skitter.
So the five-(wo)man band is:
- Malika, keywords flow and still. She can pause time a la Akemi Homura, and is the Mom Friend. Later on in the story her powers will be vital in suspending the Earth in the moment before its destruction.
- Severin, keywords multiply and control. She can summon and control many knives (a la Hawks from BnHA, sorta?), and is the Smart Friend. She’s also the girlfriend of the protagonist. Takes over as leader after Malika is occupied keeping the Earth in stasis.
- Dominique, keywords manifest and force (or possibly multiply and force?). Has a morningstar which shoots explosive spikes. Does spikes, chains, and explosions more generally. The Punk Friend and rival to Severin.
- Annelise, keywords perception and bridge. She can link the team together into a gestalt consciousness. She’s also the protagonist, or at least protagonist-coded: she’s the Nice Friend. Girlfriend of Severin.
- Bob? (I haven’t settled on a name yet, so we’ll go with Bob for now for the sake of brevity), keywords dichotomy and bridge. She does Laplace’s Demon-style thermodynamic juggling, electricity (thanks to manipulating positive and negative charges), and antimatter. She’s also the Fallen Magical Girl, having used her bridge keyword to bridge her consciousness with that of the Big Bad and summon it to Earth.
Annelise’s perception bridge is much better suited to becoming the Avatar of Evil (and mind control!) than Bob’s dichotomy bridge, and with thermodynamics, lightning, and the ability to generate goddamn antimatter at her disposal Bob is unlikely to need the power granted by becoming the Avatar of Evil, so it would make sense to swap them around … except then thermodynamics/lightning/antimatter don’t really fit Annelise, who really belongs with some sort of support ability.
My initial idea was that the gestalt consciousness only worked while Malika was there to keep all five of them working together, and without her it splintered into some sort of codependent Annelise-and-Severin thing. Which I liked, but the Fall of Bob happens before Malika is taken out of action to constrain Bob, so something else must happen to start Bob on that downward spiral. Possibly Bob had a girlfriend on the team filling the make-Bob-and-her-gestalt-palatable-to-other-humans role, who died, thus necessitating Annelise’s transfer to the team and kicking off Bob’s descent into villainy.
Thus I need:
- A new power for Annelise
- Someone else with the keyword magnify in order to, well, magnify Malika’s powers in order to hold back the destruction of Earth (this magical girl will also be taken out of action with Malika)
- A name and power for Bob’s dead girlfriend
- Someone else with the keyword bridge in order to make survival in the time-stopped frozen Earth possible (as the Earth is frozen in time, the only places where time is still passing is inside the pocket dimensions/mind palaces/soulscapes of the magical girls. Instead of a Battle In The Centre Of The Mind we’re going camping there, so I need someone who can connect them together. Annelise’s perception bridge would have been ideal, but in a pinch anyone with bridge will do).
An earlier version of Annelise had the keywords perception and flaw, she could give herself temporary localised omniscience but rapidly got overwhelmed by it. Being able to spot weak points made her a sniper but also a surgeon. I could go back to that version.
This is getting long, so I might make a new post jamming together the different keyword combinations to see what I can make of them.
