Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Starlight/Spectral Guardian: Partner Backstory
More PMD AU stuff, this is some lore for the Partner to the Protagonist.
Initially introduced as an orphaned Pokémon taken under the care of the Thieves Guild’s leader who rescues the player after their first run in with the Specter. They are best described as adventurous and helping but have lived a mostly sheltered life since Guildmaster Gamblar was very cautious about letting them go off on their own (He has his reasons).
He/She/They don’t have a set species or Gender and can be any of the Pokémon available from the start of the story when the player chooses their Pokémon and Partner as well as a feature to give them a unique personality aside from their default traits that will be present across all versions (ie: backstory and motivation).
They are first introduced in the intro where they are shown sneaking out of the Thieves Guild’s HQ in the middle of the night to go out on their own towards Guardian’s Rest where they rescue the player from the hopeless boss fight against the Spector and take them back to their home at the Guild.
The protagonist awakens in the partner’s room where they meet their soon to be companion. As the protag has no memories of them being a human, the partner assumes they too are another orphaned pokemon
“Say you’re a rather interesting Pokemon. Not a lot of people climb Guardian’s Rest since that area is off limits to most of the people here in Edenia. Da- Err… I just got an earful from the Guildmaster for that little stunt. He was worried sick.”
After some back and forth, the player will meet the Guild-master and after an undetermined quest he will decide to allow the player and their new friend to officially join the guild.
The partner is also described as being interested in “human culture” as are with most Edenians. Their room is decorated like a human’s room (Also a standard for Edenia since human culture still largely remains unlike the rest of the world.) and upon the reveal of the partner being a human by either Galasklisk or Omuraapy at the start of Act 2 as well as the prophecy they are shocked to believe it’s true.
Act 1 or the story you won’t know much up until Act 2 (Beating the Spector atop Guardian’s Rest) in which we learn that the partner of the player was a descendant of the Pokémon family that ruled the Capital City of Edenia and the ones who adopted the first ever human who showed up in the world of Pokémon during a time known as the Age of Darkness not long after the worlds were separated.
The Partner lost their family at a young age after an attack from the Spector who learned they were one of the two Chosen Ones destined to defeat its master (The Will) and tried to get rid of them yet failed. In the ruins of the old house, the just recently hatched Partner would be found and adopted by the Guildmaster after responding to a bounty to investigate what had happened.
If and when you decide to evolve the Protag or the Partner (Evolution can be done during the main story but only after Act 2 begins, including the post game but is completely optional) to their later stages, the Partner character will have some dialogue changes that show they have matured more.
Once the final boss is defeated and the worlds remerge, the Partner will comment on how they are excited to meet other humans other then the player and also remark on how surprised they are that they remained a Pokémon (Yeah, SlSpG won’t have a sad ending as this is a story of reunions.)

Back to some of my fan PMD story, the WoTW/final boss will have some intermissions where the protag will face against some of the previous PMD final bosses whom are revealed to be Fragments of the Will and are guarding its First form in little intermission segments
The overview for context: https://www.tumblr.com/cringywhitedragon/745878290444713984/just-going-to-drop-this-here-but-heres-pok%C3%A9mon?source=share
(Also Darkrai now as a motivation because contrasting universe personalities)
They are as follows:
“The Puppet of Nightmares/Shadow Darkrai/Nightmare Fragment”: A Pokémon cast aside by others for their powers to trap others within never ending nightmares, lured by the Will with the promise to enact revenge on those who wronged them by shrouding the world in darkness and embedded with a fragment of its power. The fragment returned to the Will and fights on using the memories and body of its former host.
“The Fragment of Chilling Despair/Bittercold”: Born from the collective depression and hopelessness pokemonkind felt after the worlds were divided. Its winds of despair drove all those who were captured in its gale insane with negative emotions until its destruction but fights on in its original form.
“The Fragment of Growing Darkness/Dark Matter”: The largest fragment of the Will of the Worlds born from the negative emotions of Pokemon and possibly the closest thing to the Will’s very own wraith given a physical form. All it seeks is destruction until it was accepted by pokemonkind and absorbed back into the Will, now without any ability to think and feel, once again one with the universe.
These are intermissions that kinda work like Omega Flowey and upon defeating all three makes the WoTW vulnerable. Damage it enough times and it’s onto phase 2, aka it’s true body (or Host to put it more precise).
Universe Incarnate Novatta, or simply Will Novatta.
These “rematches” are much weaker then their original incarnations and do have some changes: The Fragment using Darkrai as an avatar does not use illusions and gains an entirely new arsenal of weapons and Dark Matter only has one form.
A fourth fragment does exist but is destroyed prior to the fight as it possesses The Spector, aka the WoTW’s second in command.

PMD SlSpG Lore: The Thieves Guild
”Say you were unjustly accused of being a thief by those Kleceon because a Voltorb decided to blow up their wares and stole your items or there’s some wanted criminal out there.
That where we come in. We’ll enact some karmic justice and get your items back and we’ll put away the bad guys. All for a price though. And we take regular guild missions.
We may have the name “Thieves” in our name but we’d never steal from the innocent. Think of us as more of a group of organized bounty hunters.
Also I’m one who believes in fair shares here. Bounties are split 50/50. Fifty to the ones who clear it and the other fifty goes back to the guild itself.”
-Guildmaster Gamblar
The main group who the protagonist and their partner will be working with during the story of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Starlight/Spectral Guardian.
Despite the organization’s name, The Thieves Guild isn’t just a group of petty crooks and bandits but more akin to bounty hunters who do various jobs for anyone who’s willing to pay (With limitations though as they do have a code of honor.)
The guild is headed by Guildmaster Gamblar. A rather suave and kind Grass/Dark type with a mischievous streak and a former bandit/Robin Hood archetype. He formed the group along with another Pokémon initially as a way to “stand up for the people” but later expanded beyond that to start taking other guild related work all across Edenia with the help of an old friend: The other founder, Elder Kleceon. The eldest brother of the Kleceon brothers before he went missing (Though he can be brought back via a Sidequest where he will open a special shop where you can get items at a heavily discounted price)
“Greedy!!! That’s what you and all of the others are. Don’t act you were trying to defend your wares when you steal stuff belonging to innocent Pokémon! All because of a Voltorb blowing up somebody’s wares. A VOLTORB!! That two innocent adventurers were badly hurt.
And what did the other Kleceon do? Robbed them blind! Took that team’s items and replaced them with Plain Seeds if I didn’t step in to return their items.
I’m tired of this business… You and all the others are all alike as I have finally come to see. Overcharging for items… Stealing others belongings… All of it that you hide behind your plastered smiles.
Goodbye you two, I hope I never see your faces again as I’m ashamed to consider you family.”
-The second founder/Elder Brother Kleceon (Cutscene that plays post-Shadow Blight fight)
The group is well respected around Edenia and is known to collaborate with other groups, through there is some history of tension.
Members of the Thevies Guild gain access to a few new job types alongside just the standard guild quests: Namely the introduction of Thief Quests (stealth focused with new gameplay), Bounty Jobs (Normal gameplay, replaces challenge letters and serve as a boss fight. Pay higher than most normal quests), Challenge Jobs (Harder missions with specific restrictions, these jobs pay the highest of all but are much harder).
As mentioned above, the Thieves Guild does take a 50 commission on Poke from any jobs done. Poke taken by the guild can be used to upgrade the main Headquarters as part of a system called Guild Projects. Guild Projects are unlocked through various means (Progressing the Main Story, Sidequests, etc) and once completed, unlock new facilities, lodging (Recruitment space), customization (Both HQ and the Player’s room), floors, and much more within the Thieves Guild HQ.
Throughout the main story, The Thieves Guild end up as the Pokémon on the front line in their fight against the Will and the Shadow Blight.
