There's so much "Bard doesn't understand Sindarin" cultural difference misunderstandings/miscommunications going on in this fandom, but I'm here to offer the opposite:

Thranduil isn't entirely fluent in Westron. Sure, he speaks eloquently, his speech is very formal, but that's because his knowledge of the language is entirely diplomatic. He learned it for foreign relations, not for day-to-day conversations; he has no knowledge of slang or euphemisms or innuendos. If it's not relevant in politics or a war tent, he's amateurish at best, though still uses a very formal diction (he calls the act of sex 'coitus' and Bard has a physical cringe reaction to it every time, I will stand by this.)

There's so much opportunity for him to misinterpret and misuse figures of speech, or to accidentally make an innuendo or say something otherwise highly inappropriate to Bard while trying to communicate something else, because he knows the words but not the implications when they're put together a certain way. Maybe he's heard some suggestive figures of speech or the like and repeats it thinking it means something completely different.

Put Bard through the nerve-wracking ordeal of figuring out how he should respond to this, and if Thranduil is actually propositioning him or not. Introduce a one bed situation by having Thranduil say they must "sleep together" or some similar phrasing and let Bard be so confused until he sees that there's only one bed, and then have him be even more confused. I don't know. It would be funny.

@bishkebab suggested Van Helsing and Dracula as couples' halloween costumes for Bard and Thranduil and that is. possibly the most correct thing anyone has ever said actually. Bard would slay this and I don't think Thranduil as a vampire needs any justification.

I'm also feral.......... gnawing at the bars of my enclosure and shaking them around like an overenthusiastic dog with a toy (figure 1) trying not to talk about the Things Coming In December, and it's getting more difficult by the day. Sometimes a creative partnership just clicks like that.

Art uploads will be slow or nonexistent until December as I work on my pieces for an event I'm participating in. I haven't died or lost interest in Barduil! Quite the opposite, actually...
