At one point in time, shortly before moving out of my parents place. I had so many plushies in my childhood bedroom i decided to push them all into a single mountain i dubbed...

I'm in a car ride with my whole family. We're talking about some random stuff, and my mother mentions my old stuffed animals I had when I was younger. That brings back memories...

I was not one of those outgoing, loud children. I wouldn't say I was particularly shy, or scared, or a crybaby, but if I didn't have to interact with people, I wouldn't. I used to be really scared of foriegn things, like new food, new places, new people, new situations. Whenever my family would go anywhere, I would always bring a stuffed animal. Gosh, I LOVED THEM, and they helped me to be calm whenever I would get a flu shot, or do anything I didn't really want to, which was most things. I had TONS of stuffed animals. I even remember this thing I used to do on a cold night where I would get all of my stuffies and pile them all up on my bed, and hug all of them. I called it "mount plushmore," lmao.

My fear of new things in combination with my love of stuffed animals would clash together in a weird way every now and again, for example, on vacations. I would have a HUGE problem with sleeping at night if my stuffed animals weren't there, and so, we would have to bring ALL of the 100 something stuffed animals to the shore with us every year so I could sleep that week.

Of those two stuffed animals, there were two I would always hold while I slept, since they were just so perfect for my small little arms to wrap around. They were two, small dogs, one male, and one female, who I called "Ruffie" (Ruff-E) and "Ruffia." (Ruff-E-ah)

Yeah, I was a genius with names😎

So, in this car ride, my mother bought up Ruffie and Ruffia, and how much I loved them!

Fast forward to a few hours ago, today, when I was sitting in my basement, drinking a caprisun that was left over from my packed school lunches. I glanced over at the bin of plushies, and remembered the car conversation.

...and so I went to work. I looked around, and quickly found Ruffia. I looked through the bins multiple times over, and yet, couldn't find Ruffie. It then occurred to me that I hadn't seen Ruffie in years. He could be In the house I USED to live in. In a moment of desperation, I looked all over various shopping websites for "small grey plush dogs," and couldn't find a new Ruffie. My sister walked downstairs to come get the laundry, and I told her the situation. we joked about all of the plushies for a bit, which gave me the determination to continue looking.

...and I found him.

TADAAA!! here is Ruffie, and the background of a messy shelf in my bedroom!

Yeah, uh, maybe his name should be spelled "Roughie" instead, or maybe he should be renamed to "Toughie," because I can't believe he's still in one piece after all this time!

And, of course, here is Ruffia, also with a messy background of my bedroom shelf, and a bit of my bed, too, since I'm laying in bed writing this on my phone. It can't wait for the morning!
