People understand that just fine. But the challenge of it being unconstitutional was only upheld because he pushed it as an executive order and didn’t get congressional approval. Two years ago, it might have been possible to regroup, put a bill forward, and pass this through congress. Now we have a republican house that definitely won’t pass a bill. If the executive office hadn’t waited until the midterms to sign the order as a publicity stunt and had put it forward early on, there would still be a chance of it passing through the house and senate. It’s not both sides-ism to say that holding off and using student loan forgiveness to buy political points right before the midterms was a crappy way to treat people’s livelihood.
#I mean yeah there’s still manchin and sinema who might have pulled some power trip shit#but it does feel a lot like Biden held off on doing the right thing to try to play it for political points#and left us all fucked as a result#plus you know there won’t be any legal challenges for these bailouts#because the only time anyone cares about how much something costs or executive overreach is when you’re actually helping people#and really#there’s no need to be rude#’do people know’ yes we do don’t be patronizing
