☕️ Opportunity the Mars Rover
kind of broke my heart, just a bit,, that sounds melodramatic, but like so much love and effort and tears were put into oppy? they did so much for science and really pushed the boundaries of what we knew about our universe so i’m really sad to see that they shut down.
the final messages that they sent were achingly human. i don;t know if that was purposeful or not but “my batteries are getting low and it’s getting dark” really hits some deep unknown chord in me. it sounds a bit like a child to me, or some bit of something that’s purely human so the loss of oppy is actually hitting me pretty hard.
what we send out into space is going to outlast us a long, long time, especially with how technology is developing. humanity is going to end up dying off and on far distant planets or soaring in between stars what we’ve sent off into the cosmos will be the last remnants of us. the earth will eventually swallow up what’s left, and bits of technology on barren planets or empty blackness will be the last echo of who we were and what we’ve done. in a sense, the last pieces of us will be continuing the journey onward in the golden discs we’ve painstakingly made and circuits we’ve wired, continuing the voyage into the unknown, a ghost and an immortal in one.
#it's a reminder of how fleeting we really are as humans#its kinda screwing with me#plus its interesting to see humanity personify something that hardly anyone knew about until it was dead#so yeah#badger_replies#opportunity#oppy#mars#ntgforever
