as cute as i find the art and au’s where people depict c!jack as joining the syndicate, i think it’s so incredibly important for both c!niki and c!jack that he doesn’t, that they have some things that are independent to them.

because a lot of the issues niki and jack struggle with is are amplified by how codependent they are (not to the extent of c!wilbur and c!tommy, but still more than two healthy adults should be) they feed into each others paranoia and anger because they’re convinced no one else could ever understand their pain or can be trusted.

c!niki and c!jack always cared about each other deeply, but unfortunately that love wasn’t what kept them so close, it was the fear of not having anyone else, of being abandoned and discarded again.

as c!niki connects with the syndicate, she begins to see there ARE other places for her in the world, that she IS still lovable and capable of forming new bonds despite what she’s gone through. she still cares about c!jack so much ofc, but she realizes that he doesn’t have to be the ONLY thing she cares about, and that she shouldn’t be the only thing HE cares about. this helps her finally be able to let go of the past and begin to heal.

(oh also c!niki and c!technos friendships is one of my fav duos and i really wish it got more appreciation)
