Who are your favorites of the side characters in pmde (however you take that to mean)
Ooh, so many great side characters :3 I’m gonna consider the future trio as main characters and give someone else the spotlight for once (Celebi will always be a main character in my heart. Who cares about screen time). Now on to the rambling >:3
Guildmaster Wigglytuff is a given; his unsettling demeanor and odd charm have me enthralled. Every playthrough he gets the most genuine laughs out of me, he’s just such a funny little guy! That being said, I also love how complex and capable he is—the way he’s always looking out for the guild members, how he’s always suspiciously there just when you need him, how he can beat his opponents to a pulp without even getting a scratch. He’s just got that perfect combination of “weird man child” and “highly respected explorer” that makes him a really intriguing character. Also he can explode things with his mind, which is neither relevant to the plot nor discussed at length. 10/10
My other favorite side character is probably Dialga, who, despite being integral to the plot, shows up for way less time than I initially recalled. It’s not so much him as a character as much as his bizarre situation that gets me. The way his health/sanity are tied to time itself, and thus indirectly to Temporal Tower, creates a unique predicament; to have command of something as integral to existence as time, yet to also be at the mercy of a physical tower (no matter how well-hidden) is frankly quite frightening. It’s also interesting that Palkia and Giratina aren’t in a similar situation, which begs the question—why did time have a physical manifestation in the tower? Was that something Dialga did, or just…how it works? Also the way that after the tower gets damaged, he enters this “not quite dead but not quite alive” state is just a touch horrific. You could especially feel his desperation in SE5 when time started to resume—he must know better than anyone that a world where time has stopped isn’t healthy or livable in, yet he’s not coherent enough to actually DO anything about it, other than protect what little there is left. You can really tell where Dusknoir got his sense of self preservation from. Anyway I just always thought he was an interesting character. Plus you can tell he’s a little extra—sending a piece of the Rainbow Stoneship out into the world to find the “chosen one” who gets to randomly access Temporal Tower is some kind of Willy Wonka behavior.

have you been doing many side quests in cyberpunk?
i have!! i’m not a rigid completionist about these things so i’ve skipped a few but for the most part i wanted to stay in the universe for as long as possible.
discussion under the cut for spoilers!
so according to google there’s around 100 side quests (i can’t find a confirmed number weirdly) and i’ve done 84 plus some gigs. i skipped all of the cyberpsycho sightings bc i tried a couple and found them all infuriatingly difficult — in fairness this was ages ago when i was pretty underskilled so i probably could have gone back to grind through them once i reached edgerunner and used the money to upgrade my last few cyberware slots, but by that point i just wanted to do the story missions tbh. i also skipped all of beat on the brat, kinda by accident — i didn’t have the eddies at first and then by the time i had them, i just didn’t feel like doing it. i’m generally pretty awful at hand to hand combat stuff (i panic and button-mash lmao) and i’m not especially bothered about getting rare loot or whatever so i just never went back to it.
i also skipped sweet dreams (the brain dance dealer one) bc he was asking for 22k eddies for it, and then when i googled to see if it was worth it i found it is…definitely not lmao.
aaaand i failed out of kerry’s sideline in rebel rebel bc i find the vehicles in cyberpunk uniformly undriveable and couldn’t lose my police tail, and he was annoying me and i played as male V so couldn’t romance him anyway, so i just gave up. kinda regretted it afterwards but not enough to go back to a previous save point and lose all my subsequent progress lol.
alsooo i read on reddit that there’s a part 2 to the grimes job but i could NOT get it to trigger?? i literally skipped about three weeks in in-game time and she just wouldn’t text back :(
looking at the full list of names i think there’s quite a few in japantown that i didn’t trigger, which is a bummer! i really wish there was some way to see which ones you still had left (idk maybe there is and i just couldn’t find it). but i’m def gonna do another playthrough at some point so i’ll hopefully grab the ones i missed then!
ngl i did feel weirdly emotional when i reached the point of no return screen in act 3. i don’t want it to end 😭

more of my fe: engage sacrificial challenge run
first off just overall thoughts: this run’s been... fine. I mean, it’s still enjoyable Fire Emblem gaming, and it’s pushing me to use different units than on my first run, and using smaller squads has made for some interesting challenges in some cases. but not necessarily the most exciting challenge on its own. still gonna finish it out though
second, our current roster at the start of this day is: Anna (warrior), Lapis (swordmaster), Jade (general), Ivy (lindwurm), Zelkov (thief), Kagetsu (swordmaster), and of course Alear (as divine dragon)
Chapter 12: First thing we do this chapter is get three new recruits: Fogado (cavalry), Pandreo (high priest), and Bunet (great knight). And our sacrifice this chapter will be... Zelkov. Losing our second thief to RNG, fair enough. That’s the nature of randomness
Zelkov’s high avoid meant it took him a long time to die, but we did complete it.
Chapter 13: We actually have too many units to bring everyone onto the map this time, shockingly enough. Number of units you can bring caps at 8, and we have 9 altogether. Regardless, we know already that at the start of this map I get three new recruits: Timerra (soldier), Merrin (wolf rider), and Panette (berserker), so we can select a random sacrifice out of the full list anyway. Random sacrifice this time is... Bunet, the great knight and great chef.
As his final act, Bunet put up a good defense holding off some enemies on the backline while the rest of the party pushed toward the boss
Chapter 14: Sacrifice to RNGesus this time around is gonna be... Fogado. Prince of Solm dies in the capital. Shame.
Aaand we also lost Panette. Crit, nothing to be done about it unfortunately. Well, I could’ve placed her in a position where only the first of the two enemies that attacked her would’ve reached her I guess. But couldn’t have expected the crit to come, at least.
And once the chapter was done, we got Hortensia (wing tamer).
Chapter 15: Ooo this is the chapter we get our dancer, nice! But not at the start of the chapter. Our sacrifice this chapter is... Ivy. Oof, Ivy’s a really good unit in this game, at least if my first playthrough is anything to go by. And also how she’s been for us so far this playthrough too. That’s harsh.
Really, generally feeling like this challenge is going to be noticably bad once we hit the last couple of chapters and only have like 3 units left. ‘Til then this is mostly a regular run. Maybe should’ve done Hard difficulty instead of Normal, but I figured the challenge would make it interesting enough on its own, but... meh.
Also, damn, I didn’t use Hortensia in my first run but I’m realizing she’s a really really good unit, especially as a staff user/support unit. And there’s lots of really good staves in this game.
Chapter 16: Start out this chapter getting Rosado (best character in the game, wyvern knight) and Goldmary (hero) added to the roster. So with that we’re up to a respectable 11 units in our army, plus Alear. Far too many people. Let’s sacrifice someone. Timerra, rest in peace. Clearly none nobles can survive this war.
damn, started out the chapter almost losing Anna on the first turn D: She’s good, though
Shoot, we did however lose Jade. Pandreo was about to die to the boss, and she stepped in and protected him. She will be remembered fondly <3
I didn’t use a High Priest in my first run, but their class skill of being able to heal themselves with staves is really neat! Far more cost-efficient than just using vulneraries I guess. Not sure what else value it has though I suppose.
Chapter 17: Sacrifice this chapter is... Anna?! Noooo she’s been so good to us this run, what a shame
Aaand, unfortunately we lost best character in the game Rosado. Was trying to have everyone work together to take down one of this map’s bosses, but we didn’t quite take her down, and on her turn she finished off Rosado. RIP, you will be missed
Aand, my switch’s battery is almost dead so I gotta put this run aside mid-chapter while I go put the switch on the charger for awhile. Getting close to the end of the work day anyway, so no big deal

AFTERTHOUGHTS - ROUNDUP
Hello, everyone! I’ve beaten a few games recently that I just didn’t have a whole lot to say about. So I figured it’d be better to round them all up into one neat post rather than making big posts for games I’m only gonna talk a little bit about. And since twitter messed up threads uh, yeah we’re doing it here.
I’ve done this before but only once before. I guess let me know if you think doing stuff like this sucks and if I should just give each of these games more time to themselves? Idk.
As always don’t consider these to be reviews, these are just me throwing up my thoughts! If you’re interested in ANY game I talk about, please give them a shot!
Rotund Zero (April 21, 2022) - PC
First up is a game I actually played last year. And technically I didn’t “Beat it” but I did play a good amount of it, and for the time being I’m kinda done with it. Rotund Zero is a VERY fun platformer with about 26 levels where the goal is just to clear as many as you can within a time limit. It’s simple, but there’s a few ways to tackle these 26 levels, and the levels themselves can be really tough. You’re constantly jumping up and down, which also adds a lot of challenge to it. It has tight controls, cute gameboy graphics, and nice music. I’d say the only bad things about it is that some of the levels can be confusing as to what to do? Basically any level with the beaver enemies SUCK lol. But aside from the levels I hated, it’s a good time attack game! If you like hard platformers and time attack stuff, you shouldn’t miss out on Rotund Zero! Plus it’s CHEAP! Totally worth checking out!

Puyopuyo Tetris (February 6, 2014) - Nintendo Switch
First off, I cannot believe this game first launched in 2014. The version I played launched 3 years later in 2017 (for context I try to use the original release date in those dates I list fyi). I actually started my playthrough of this game YEARS ago now, probably back in 2017-2018. But I got totally walled by the Ecolo fights. I only managed to come back and beat them just randomly when my sister asked if we could try the game out (we play vs puzzle games a lot). And after that I put on my big-gamer pants and beat the rest of the story mode! Sadly, this means I basically remember very little of the first half of the game.
But I will say this about it: it’s ADDICTING AS ALL HELL. I think the story is very good although, as someone not familiar with the Puyo Puyo cast it feels very... het? Or like it’s threatening to be het a lot of the time. But it’s colorful, has a lot of characters, an interesting story in a game that didn’t need one (which I always appreciate), and it’s just fun to play these games. I got totally stuck playing Tetris nonstop that it was affecting my ability to work for a few days lmao. For things I dislike? I think the fusion game mode fucking BLOWS, it’s not fun and barely works imo and they force you to use it a lot. Also Puyo is clearly stronger than Tetris, like Tetris stands no chance against Puyo. Also I think the game should have ended with them destroying the walls between all worlds and every future game adds MORE puzzle games until we have Puyo Puyo x Tetris x Dr. Mario x Panel De Pon ect ect. But other than that yeah it’s a fine game. I want to try the sequel but I feel like it’s gonna be the exact same thing? We’ll see.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 (February 24, 2000) - Dreamcast
Ah, Marvel vs Capcom! I’m not really a big Marvel guy, if I’m being honest. But sometimes when good Marvel stuff comes out I really get into it. There’s only 2 things that really scratch that itch for me and those are Spiderverse (one of my favorite movies ever) and the Marvel vs Capcom Games! (And Super Hero Squad but I haven’t watched that in years). Anyway lately I’ve been in a big MvC mood, I’ve been seeing all those AWESOME MvC3 mods and watching lots of videos on MvC2. And I got fed up with not being able to play it! I own a bootleg copy for Dreamcast but idk where it is, I cannot emulate arcade to save my life, and the game is just generally unavailable everywhere. So there’s only one place to turn... the high seas. My best friend in the whole wide world.
So I finally got to play some MvC2 again! I LOVE this game! It’s so full of love and charm! First off, I don’t think this game gets enough credit from lovers of the Y2K aesthetic. Just the menus are so calming and cool with all the water effects and bright lights. Plus this game has a surprisingly relaxed soundtrack! A lot of the music is very chill in the best way possible. Of course it has drop dead gorgeous sprite art, and I’m always a fan of 2D sprites on 3D backdrops! I actually quite like the stages even though they’re very weird. And of course, the characters are GREAT! My team right now is Venom, Shuma Gorath, and Amingo! Venom and Shuma are my favorite Marvel characters BECAUSE of MvC! And Amingo is a cactus guy so, of course. Hope he can come back in ANYTHING some day! The roster is MASSIVE and it’s honestly impressive there’s so much to choose from including TONS of really weird characters I’ve NEVER heard of like Marrow and Blackheart. It’s great how many odd picks there are.
The gameplay is also great, I feel like I probably still prefer MvC3 but I really need to play this one more to really get the hang of it again cause it’s been YEARS since I played it last. But this was also my first time beating it! I’ve beaten every other game in the series before (even MvC1 cause I had an emulator on my Xbox) except for anything prior to MvC1 I guess. I wish this game had more personalized plots but for the time and with such a big roster I do think the concept of Ruby Heart gathering fighters to fight Abyss is cool and serves its purpose well. I certainly don’t hate it. In fact I think some of the only negative things I can say about this game is just how IMPOSSIBLE it is to play without pirating it. I KNOW pirating games tends to be better anyway, but there’s something nice about playing and owning a real copy. Maybe one day it’ll get rereleased on Steam? Maybe? Please???
Regardless, yes this game is still great and I will absolutely come back and play it more! I wouldn’t mind being better at the Marvel series in general!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
God of War (March 22, 2005) - Playstation 2
And here’s a new series I started for the first time this year! I’ve heard absolutely AMAZING things about the series, especially Ragnarok. So I figured it’s time for me to give a shot too, but you know me, I gotta start from the top. I’m honestly surprised I didn’t have more to say about GoW, but it was honestly VERY different from how I was expecting. I actually played the whole game on easy mode cause I’d never played a game like this before but uh... IT’S STRAIGHT UP JUST THE WEREHOG SECTIONS FROM SONIC UNLEASHED!? LIKE, DOWN TO THE TIGHTROPE SECTIONS!?!? IS THIS WHY WEREHOG SONIC HAD STRETCHY ARMS, TO MATCH THE BLADES OF CHAOS!?!?
Anyway, yeah God of War was neat. It’s a VERY brutal game that’s very dark and depressing. But that of course fits with the ton of Greek Mythology very well. And where this dark tone shines is absolutely with the game’s protagonist, Kratos! He’s EASILY the best part. Bad ass design, tragic backstory, a hard ass tough guy but he loves his wife so much and realizes that his struggle for power wasn’t worth it if it meant hurting his family. It’s great. He’s really cool and honestly fits into Greek Mythology pretty perfectly, I’m a little surprised he’s an OC cause he fits really well. The story is simple but good, the game has some cool monster designs (the armored minotaur was GREAT), and it can have some pretty nice looking environments! I do also like that you get so many different tools to deal with bad guys. From different spells and even 2 different weapons! The giant sword and Poseidon's Rage were my go to weapon choices! Probably the aspect of the game that stuck out to me the most though, and this is SUPER random. Is the fact that this game features characters with fully exposed breasts. Like you see them pretty early but there’s important characters with their boobs full on out, and a lot of the enemies are actually doing the same. And obviously Kratos has his nipples out, but I don’t think I’ve EVER seen a game where women do that. And there’s NO jokes about it, it’s just the fashion, it’s taken completely seriously and boobs are treated exactly the same regardless of who has their nipples out in the open. Obviously it’s all greek so of course but it’s COOL! I think more games should have characters with boobs and not make like a point to give them crazy jiggle physics and make jokes about BOOBS LOOK GUYS ITS BOOBS shut up. Boobs are cool and you’re giving boobs a bad name
However, despite all that praise. I honestly was not that crazy about a lot of this game. Like, for starters, the gameplay. So it’s the exact same as Sonic Unleashed’s werehog stages. But I realize now that those are REALLY fun to me because it’s just 1 half of the puzzle. In God of War you ONLY do werehog stages. And the combat is fine but it’s not that exciting to me? A lot of the enemies are REALLY annoying and MASSIVE damage sponges. And while you get a lot of weapons and spells, most of them feel useless? And especially the attacks you learn with the Blades of Chaos. Am I crazy or am I the only one who doesn’t like games where your move inputs look like this: X,X,O,X,O,X,O,O,R2,X,O,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,R1,O,L2. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO REMEMBER THIS!? I’d rather have a small, concise moveset of iconic moves I can instantly recognize, than a MASSIVE list of moves that are completely lost in the fold that I can’t even remember how to use. Then you have SO MANY tight rope sections that are just not fun and annoying. In addition to that, like most of the game is too dark to see anything and a lot of the music isn’t that memorable imo (except for the Cliffs of Madness song I liked that one a lot). The whole game feels like a bit of a chore to get through, but it’s very generous with checkpoints and save points and ultimately it is cool even if I wasn’t SUPER into it. I think this is a series that will only get better as I play the later entries! Time to hook up Playstation Allstars and try Kratos out in that!

Fortnite Battle Pass (July 21, 2017) - PC/Xbox
Okay... I’m a little embarrassed to admit it... I got a little into Fortnite in December and I’ve been playing it since. It’s fun! I tried it way back in 2017 or 2018 and just did not like it and did not get the hype. But recently I had a massive itch to try it again and, well, yeah it clicked! I think the game is a lot more fun now! I ended up getting 2 of my siblings sucked into the game as well, and we all agreed to buy John Cena so we could run around and play as a trio of John Cenas. And I had left over V-Bucks and figured, what the hell? Doom stuff is in the battle pass and I love Doom, so I might as well buy it.
As for the game itself? It’s a ton of fun. I like running around the map, finding resources, getting augments, ect ect. It’s like a Roguelike, which I’m very iffy on. But I LOVE having random equipment on the map and having to adapt to random stuff you find. If that makes sense. But my favorite thing to do? Is DRIVE. Using a car in this game is SO much fun! Getting the Tricked Out and Supercharged Augments so I can just drive through buildings forever, crashing into people, getting my car blown up, doing flips, getting my car blown up. It’s a BLAST and leads to some hilarious moments when I hit someone right after honking at them at top volume. The game has REALLY nice graphics and art style, it’s cute and feels pretty good to play. And has a pretty neat selection of characters, both in terms of its mix of OCs and Pop characters. I do wish there was more stuff I PERSONALLY liked. But like I said earlier, John Cena, Venom, and Doom Slayer are pretty cool. But the second they do Mario or Final Fantasy stuff? It’s over for my wallet. Plus being able to mix assets from characters together can make for fun and cool combos (plus, the goofy emotes). And in addition to that there’s a lot of custom content made by fans? That’s AWESOME! Me and my sister have been having a lot of fun doing prop hunts, ghost hunting, and gathering wood in a medieval castle? Regardless it’s fun and it’s neat fans can make modes.
But yeah, the game isn’t perfect. For more nitpicky things: I think Shotguns are completely busted in this game. Maybe I’m crazy but whenever I use them, they are WORTHLESS! But when an ENEMY uses them, they are ALWAYS a 1-hit KO on me no matter what my health and shields are. Also, I think fall damage is a little extreme in this game, I’ve died just from falling from trees close to the ground at max HP. I also have a big issue with this game that the default skins SUCK. This game desperately needs a custom character creator so I don’t have to play as the boring randomized default characters. But no, the worst part of this game is easily, and you probably guessed it, the microtransaction stuff. V-Bucks are SO expensive and have terrible conversion rates. 1,000 for $8? You can buy barely ANYTHING for that price? $32 for 5,000 sounds like a lot, but at roughly 2000 V-Bucks for any character, that $32 will drain INCREDIBLY fast. I just feel like making this a little less expensive would be VERY appreciated. And in addition to that, you gain exp SO slowly on the battle pass, I know every game does this but still. It’s clear that it’s a tactic to get you to buy levels using, you guessed it, more V-Bucks. By the time I reached level 80 or so, I was gaining exp so slow and I just don’t have to energy to keep grinding to finish the dang thing. I got the Green hellsie I wanted (the green tea girl) and now. I’m happy with it. I think I’m done for the time being. I’ll still play every now and then with my siblings but I am pooped out on grinding that battle pass. Still, the game IS fun! A lot of it, and especially if you go in not planning to spend money like I did (initially) I think you’ll find a great game. But like any microtransaction riddled mess, once money gets involved it really starts to feel like a chore.
Anyway check out my Fortnite OC:

Tightrope Theatre (August 10, 2022) - PC
Last, but not least, is a nifty little platformer called Tightrope Theater! I saw this game was on sale for 99 cents during the winter sale last year, and I just couldn’t pass up a deal like that. So I picked it up and, hey, yeah this game is pretty neat! For positives: let me just start out by saying I ADORE the sprite art in this game! A LOT!! The sprites really evoke a Gameboy Advance feel to me, which is the highest praise I think I can possibly give a game. It’s incredibly charming and cartoony sprites that just look fantastic! The music is also great! Flaming Finale is easily my favorite song in the game. The game clearly had so much love poured into it despite being a small game. And there’s tons of levels too! 140 in total I believe? And there’s even time attacks to keep you coming back to try them over and over again! I didn’t do the time attacks but I did completely each chapter + the 2 bonus ones and I had a great time with it!
As for what I disliked? Well, for starters, this game feels slippery a LOT. I think it’s cause the main character rides a unicycle. SO OFTEN I would land on something and just slide clean off for no reason. Most of my deaths happened that way for sure. Then there’s also bumpers which I found to be REALLY annoying to use properly, and some levels were surprisingly difficult for me to figure out what they wanted me to do. But if I’m being honest even if they ticked me off I think the rest of the game is so much fun and has such high quality that it doesn’t really matter. This game is SERIOUSLY GREAT and I absolutely will be checking out some of their other stuff (I used to play Duke Dashington on Newgrounds a few years back actually!) If you want a small platformer and / or like clowns? Check this game out for sure!

question for y’all
if i was, hypothetically, hyperfixating on breath of the wild and inheritance cycle at the same time (as i am wont to do), would y’all wanna see eragon as the amnesiac chosen knight… or murtagh?
(or both that’s also an option)
because here’s. the thing.
obviously, eragon works very well taking link’s role; i’m not gonna list all the reasons why, y’all are smart.
but also… murtagh would also work pretty well???
1. the sword thing—i could write so much angst about a red master sword, y’all don’t even know
2. the stoic knight—eragon has Too Many Questions, murtagh would fit as the silent, stone-faced protector so much better
3. speaking of angst, amnesia plus murtagh’s overall trauma???? so much angst!!!!! SO much angst!!!!!! and like. special varden people who KNOW who he is but don’t know how much they should tell him????? oh god
4. and then of course there’s the fact that i am finally doing my inheritance cycle horses BOTW playthrough and i’ve been riding my tornac pretty much exclusively since i registered him so. there’s that.
i’ve got like… basic concept outlines for each option, if y’all wanna hear about them

simblr asks v2
here are my answers! find the questions here.
i wrote soo much ahaha. like however much you think i wrote, i wrote more than that. imo everything i write is gold though
1. are you going to buy the new pack (cottage living) when it comes out? no, it looks really nice but i legit never ever buy packs at launch, especially cause this one is a expansion and it will probably go on sale at some point
2. do you p*rate your dlc or buy it legitimately? buy it legitimately 👌
3. what’s your favorite world? brindleton bay, it gives like seaside cottage vibes. willow creek is good but it’s boring.
4. if you use a queue, how many posts per day do you set it as? 3 or 4. i used to do like 12 lmaoo what even was wrong with me
5. do you watch sims on youtube? yes, i watch mainly malixa, oshinsims, and msgryphi
6. what are your thoughts on the most recent pack? (dream home decorator) those sectional couches look good! but honestly im kinda annoyed because now it’s even harder to have all the items filled in when i place lots from the gallery. like i’m just saying like a lot of builds will use that pack probably and if i don’t get it then i can’t really use builds/save files
7. how many packs/kits do you own? lemme count
expansion: all - 10/10 game: 5/10 stuff: 9/18 kits: none xo
24/38 - 63%
8. what’s your origin id? is it the same as your url? 🤗 it’s in my title, it’s celeschul. it doesn’t look that nice in my title but i use celeschul in my package files and i’m guessing people search things like, “celeschul penny hair” or something like that in order to find my cc- so i keep it in there so the search results are easier. i do want to change it though..
but no it’s also not the same! well i mean it’s the username i use for cc. my origin id used to be an0nymousghost but i changed it. i wonder if anyone’s taken that one?
9. is your simblr your sideblog or main blog? main blog ✌️ my old blog @stardze is a main blog as well.
my old old simblr was a sideblog but it had like 1 follower and it literally a bot so i don’t think that counts. i have a multifandom sideblog though
10. do you have a cc finds blog? i wish. i was thinking bout it earlier and that would be sooo neat but sometimes i download stuff that doesn’t have a tumblr post attached to it, and also it’s stressful to keep up with so nah
11. are you wcif friendly? yes sir. in fact i bring the trouble of wcifs onto myself but doing them even when nobody asked.
12. what’s your favorite sized household to play with? (ex. 1 sim, 4 sims) gonna have to think on this one, honestly 1 sim is really fun and stuff goes by so fast. doing stuff with astrid when she was on her own, it was much more efficient.
for families, i haven’t done that in a while actually. 5, 2 parents and 3 kids is cute tho. why did i write this this is honestly such a hard question
13. if you have c&d, do you play with pets? i feel like i haven’t played with cats and dogs in forever. honestly i just have no paitence. noelle fae was supposed to get a cat (there’s a food bowl + cat bed in her house) but when summer vacation started, the amount of time i spent playing ts4 decreased a lot. (this doesn’t really make sense, i have a lot more time. honestly it just has to do with my recent obsession with a certain anime/manga and some other personal thing)
i did random nightmares in may though and i had pets frequently. g5 didn’t because sofia scarlett lived in an apartment, but g2/3/4 had cici, and g1 had all the cats. but that was back in march so it’s been a while.
14. what lifespan do you use? i really want to do aging off but then i feel like it drags on. but aging legit stresses me out, sometimes i just want to sit down and do some cas stuff but i only have 2 hours in real time and there’s like 4 days left till one of my sims’ birthdays.
15. if you own a lot of packs, how many of them have you actually played through? just so everyone is aware this question was made for me
i feel like eps require a specific save made for testing them out, but the only save i’ve ever made for an ep is noelle fae’s get famous save.
that is literally a lie - i made a save for island living with one of my 100bc kids, maisie acapella. i did actually post it on tumblr BUT then i deleted all the posts BUT i reblogged them on my alt account BUT i privated my alt account so i honestly forgot about it
i have never played through discover university or watched anyone do it on youtube, i’ve read gerbits’ story about it so i think i’m pretty qualified. i’ve always wanted to do one with periwinkle acapella but i never got around to it
another ep i know nothing about is get to work
i tried doing a eco life playthrough but i hadn’t watched any videos and i was like..what is going on. so i quit lolx d ;;;;; i mentioned it but the whimsy stories legacy was the first time i had played with the eco lifestyle features so technically i think i know what im doing
i got outdoor retreat literally on monday of this week so i haven’t played through it yet.
jungle adventure i still don’t know what’s going on. i remember last year before i bought the pack i was brainstorming, and wanted to do a ja playthrough with luna and cedar, who are a couple who i did a random legacy with and it was all queued to post when i deleted everything (if you’re wondering why, it’s because my queue was literally 200+ posts). except this time i didn’t save them to my sideblog so i lost them.
i still havent had a restaurant in dine out
also never did the vet thing from cats and dogs
i have no idea what that rock climbing thing is from snowy escape but i did most of the other stuff because rn g5
city living i did through psc stage 5 and also it was the first pack i bought anyways
the rest of them are either stuff packs or i ended up playing them through casual gameplay (seasons, parenthood)
16. what do you do as you play sims? (ex. listen to music) i listen to music most of the time, or listen to commentary youtube videos because i am an alpha chad. i also used to talk with my friends on voice call but i don’t do that anymore 🥲
17. which sims challenges have you tried? random legacy, whimsy stories, perfect sim challenge, 100 baby, legacy (just the plain get-to-10-gens one), random nightmares, berry zodiac, astrology legacy, apocalypse
i feel like im forgetting some.. honestly most of the stuff i did before simblr was either 100 baby (i love that challenge) or random saves that lasted for 2 seconds.
18. do you like the new(ish) hair swatches? nah.
i do appreciate that most cc hairs have a true (ish) black, thank god! and the fact that the hair update is what inspired me to update and fix a bunch of hairs with different issues is pretty nice. but will i use them? no.
plus it takes up like 5 gb? depending on how many packs you have.
19. post the latest screenshot you took 📸
Tumblr media
i live in cas
20. what is the cc/ingame hair that looks the most like your own? i think that dream home decorator side part hair looks a lot like my hair. honestly i havent see much like my hair but that one is kinda-? close
21. who is your favorite sim of yours and what is their story? noelle and alari fae i think!
Tumblr media
link to post
noelle is blonde and has blue-grey eyes. she wears purple contacts pretty often though (because she wants to 😌)
alari has light brown hair that is kinda curly, and she’s got pretty vibrant blue eyes.
they’re sisters, alari is 3 years older than noelle. noelle was 19 and alari was 22 when they got spotted
they worked as models when they were young adults. their jobs involved dyeing their hair blue/pink, and they would model like clothes and stuff. anyways, they were pretty successful. like not ultra famous but they had enough money to not work for the rest of their lives.
their modeling group was made of 4 girls, the others were named paisley autumn and they were green and red, respectively. some things are:
paisley and alari started dating during this
autumn was a single mother to a little girl named destiny
noelle dated many people during this but never ended up finding the one <3
when their contract ended after like 6 years, paisley and alari went to go live together and noelle decided to get into acting. so thats when get famous playthrough started!
there’s more but basically they’re like oc’s with sims on the side. xoxo
22. if you use cc, are there any cc creators that you have like ALL of their items? this is such a good question! i hoard hair very heavily (my folder is 11gb) i so i have like 97% from most of the popular hair creators.
i think i had legitimately EVERYTHING from simstrouble though, i went through multiple times to check and i also have all of her retired stuff.
i have everything from ridgeport i think-? because of the fact that she uploaded all her stuff in one big zip.
i think that’s it.. for a long time i also had everything by clumsyalienn, but then i ended up deleting it and only keeping my faves.
and looking at my collection, maybe ah00b? i might be missing a couple but i at least have like 99%.
23. what’s one pack you think is underrated? dine out, it’s laggy af yes but it’s such a nice thing for my sims to do.
24. what are your favorite sims stories/legacies? melons by gerbits always and forever
this question was inspired by this ask anyways so
25. if you could change one small thing about ts4, what would it be? most of my suggestions are pretty complex but literally just - when you add tray files, they appear at the top. my life would be so much easier
this took me literal hours to answer

Writing Tag
I was tagged by @adventuresofmeghatron and @suppuration , thank you guys!
I tag @thenightmotherwrites , @trashkingnyx, @thewastelandwriter, and whoever wants to do this, and there’s absolutely no pressure if you don’t want to. I would love to see!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
2. Honest.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
27,292 words, but that’s going to go up into the 30 thousands pretty quickly here once I finish editing the new chapter for Stimpacks!
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Well, I only have two works so far (that will also be expanding soon)
Stimpacks and Sniper Rounds- F!SoSu/MacCready- Em and Mac’s first longfic.
December, 2288- F!SoSu/MacCready- a quick songfic that might already get a re-write.
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I always try to. I like having the author interact with the community and talking about the fic. To me, it’s a way to speak to my readers directly too. I like that sense of community.
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Honestly, the only completed fic is December, 2288, and it has no angst at all. But that doesn’t mean that Stimpacks won’t have it. I have angst planned, but I have no idea if that will change in the future.
The rest is under Keep Reading!
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
December, 2288. It’s just them dancing in celebration, and it’s fluffy with Feelings. Stimpacks will have happy in it, I just need to get there, haha.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I don’t think the Mass Effect AU is a crossover, cause I’m only taking three people from the fallout universe and plunking them into Mass Effect, and their character changes due to the equipment and state of the galaxy instead of the state of the Wasteland. Honestly, I’m surprised how well they’re fitting into the universe! I’m excited to unveil it to everyone.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
When I was still on ff.net, yes. But after the long hiatus and coming to a new fandom, I have not. Everyone really seems to like Em, and the pair of Em and Mac, so I’m very grateful to have a lovely community welcome me back to writing.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Alright, listen. I’m improving my smut game here. My improvement is through role-play. But! I also have a steamy shower scene that I need to really finish, and I have one still in my head that’s pretty smutty.
Em and Mac are horndogs, okay? Let them just have at it. Even if I can’t articulate what’s happening without blushing or giggling, just know they’re banging a lot. They’re in their twenties! And they’re in love.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope!
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope.
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have not. I don’t really count roleplay either yet until it’s posted (and it might, I’m not sure). So, as soon as you see a link, I have not co-written anything yet.
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
It’s Em and Mac. I have a couple of other ships sailing around somewhere, but this one has been carefully constructed, and they have the most depth out of all my ships. I think maybe because it’s a part of myself in Em? Or a good portion? Unsure.
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I had a Star Wars fic in the brainstorming stage with a few scenes written down, but I honestly doubt I’ll get to it anymore. It’s been so long. I also wrote for Pirates of the Caribbean, but due to some personal things, I don’t think I’ll ever finish that one either.
15. What are your writing strengths?
I received some feedback on some decent descriptions, and how I’m spinning a few familiar scenes in a new way that is fresh, or capturing the tension of some quests. Personally, I think I’m okay with dialogue. Keep it realistic, using words I know characters will use too keep them in character. It’s nice.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
I am HORRIBLE at slow-burn. Even reading it. I’m constantly yelling “JUST KISS ALREADY” at my own characters even. So I’m hoping that Stimpacks will be better paced. Plus I have a couple of friends to help keep me in check if I don’t realize I’m moving too fast.
Btw, Em and Mac, you gonna kiss yet? No? Sigh, fine.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I think it’s really cool, like having characters orignally from another country, or if they spoke it at home. Muttering things in their language under their breath is so great. Call me a dickhead again, it sounds great. Hahah.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Actually, I wrote fic for Red vs. Blue first. Then PoTC before the Big Hiatus.
19. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
So far its Stimpacks. The story sort of told itself to me while I played the game, refined it on a second playthrough, finished Em’s face on the third, and now I just fall in love over and over again with every new playthrough. Sure, there are a few departures from canon, but I hope everyone who reads it is having as much fun as I am as I write it.

Mass Effect Andromeda
So I restarted the game (cause I'm stupid and didn't make different saves so meh)
And this time I did some stuff differently.
Under the cut cause it's long, and maybe spoilers if people haven't done it?
And a little Drack venting so I'm putting it here to spare those who like/love Drack
1 - I went through the Kett main base earlier - just before you reach the door that opened and let out the Kett so I missed out on fighting them at that point.
Usually, when you go back there and see the extra, Liam points out that there is more than what he/Sara killed and Sara points out that her dad had been busy.
This time, it's just the bodies Alec left behind and Sara just says that her dad had been busy. That was actually nice, I'd wonder what happened if you went through the doors before you met the Kett and I was actually expecting to meet them in the middle so yay, no more kett to kill...
2 - if you stick close to Alec Ryder, you hear him call out the profiles. Now, in my previous playthroughs, I always fell behind so I had Liam asking how Alec was doing what he was doing and getting 'no idea' from Sara.
This time - Cora asks what's with all the profiles and Alec tells them it's to do with SAM where Sara asks him how is SAM doing this. Alec tells them to keep focus.
Nice little foreshadowing there Alec.
3 - I never really read the e-mail regarding the Pyjack so this time I did and imagine my delight when I discovered exactly what I would be calling the Pyjack from now on.
Here's a hint (in the letter) - it is recommended to not to feed the Pyjack after 2359. No baths or showers, and to limit it's exposer to solar radiation.
Can anyone guess what I've now named my Pyjack? (cause I really do love this game for all the little shout outs and hints i always miss)
4 - I really do like Tann. I know, I know, not a popular opinion (and apparently he's worse in the book). It was so funny when you ask him about the forward stations and he explains it before cheerfully informing Sara that she'll be the first one to try it out.
It was SUCH a contrast to his normal tone that it always makes me smile.
And I like that he is actually supportive of Sara. Addison - while understandable, does come off as a bitch. Kesh actually made me suspicious cause she only spoke up AFTER Addison chews you out so it kind of me made me think that she was just trying to come off as 'nice' at that point.
Don't get me wrong, I do like Kesh but I do feel like she was playing a game too.
Tann - if you support him, supports you. He kind of gets it with the whole 'surprise, responsibility' so it was nice that Sara had that kind of support.
Plus he was actually the first one to offer condoles to Sara over her father's death while Addison just demanded answers to what happened to him and Kesh didn't say anything.
5 - and oof, before I restarted the game, I played through the Archon ship and saved the Pathfinder instead of Scouts (before I completed Elaaden) and damn, Drack really hates your guts.
I honestly wanted to biotically headbutt him for his attitude because he never ONCE said anything about his scouts so yeah, I'm sorry - why should I give a single shit about some unnamed krogans when I have a pathfinder who is desperately seeking more of her people - civilians by the way - after telling Sara that too many of their people have gone missing.
The more heartbreaking thing was if you chose the emotional response, Sara just apologises. You could practically hear the tears.
I swear to god though, if I still get that response after I complete Elaaden and bend over backwards for the Krogan, I think Drack is gonna go down further on the shit list. I don't have time for that type of attitude.
Even my Shepard had to kick Wrex's ass into action by telling him if he wants things to change for the Krogan, he needed to be the one willing to step up and change things.
And it still ticks me off that people think Kallo is being racist toward Drack when Kallo says that Drack has issues with Salarians considering their past so he thought it was better to keep his distance.
Meh. I'll see how it goes but seriously Drack?! You want me to give a shit about your Scouts, tell me about them instead of having one of my crewmembers tell me when SAM tells me there are Krogans on board (or Drack himself and he pretty much tells you you're saving them. Sorry - I'm the Pathfinder, Drack, I do what's best overall, not what you demand).
Alright, enough is enough and I'll continue playing.
Back on Eos so I'm gonna switch up my team and see if anyone else says anything when Sara unleashes the Fiend on Site 2.)

Note
in your opinion, which harvest moon or sos games are worth playing and which are not? Are the older titles worth it?
So I have to confess, I have played relatively few HM/SoS games to completion. "Completion" meaning: over a year in-game played, got married, had a kid, and/or completed whatever story there is to be done. I am also of the mind that if something makes me happy, regardless of how old, or objectively "bad" it might be considered, it's worth playing. It makes me happy, it's time well spent.
So if you're looking for an actual critical, and well thought out review of the games, I am not the blog to ask. There are lots of other people out there who have given more thought to the matter than I have.
For the record, the games I have played are: Back to Nature, HM 3 GBC, (More) Friends of Mineral Town, Island of Happiness, Save the Homeland, SoS1, Trio of Towns, SoS Friends of Mineral Town, and I'm working my way through Pioneers of Olive Town.
I've played a little bit of Tale of Two Towns, and A New Beginning, but I didn't get very far in either of those before getting distracted with other things. I enjoyed them while I was playing, but also neither of them captured my attention enough to stay invested long term. Make of that what you will.
I never played any of the titles that were released on Game Cube or Wii, and I basically didn't play anything between 2007 and 2014. Which some people will say is when the best games came out, and I missed out on the best titles, but I never played them so I can't offer an opinion on them. And I haven't played any of the Harvest Moon titles since the split.
So of the ~25 games that we have under the Hm/SoS umbrella, I've played 10, and 4 of them are technically the same game remade on different consoles so let's say 6. Several of the games I played as a literal child, and when I upgraded to the next technology generation, I lost my ability to play them. Others I picked up again as an adult and thoroughly enjoyed my time playing.
As for the "worth" of the game, it really depends on what you, personally, want from your game. I've already given you my definition of "worth". I realize it is not Everyone's definition of "worth". Nonny, I suspect, that since you're asking me in the first place, "it makes me happy" isn't the only reason you want/need to invest time and effort into playing a game. I cannot tell you which games you think will be "worth it."
I think each game has it's own value. It offers something that other's don't. Different characters, different farming mechanics, different stories, and I think each one, in its own way has some value to impart on the players.
My long-time favorite game has been the Mineral Town games, ever since we got BTN in 2000 I fell in love with the premise, the characters, the setting. I bought the gameboy versions when they hit stores, and they are the games I most consistently return to when I want something comfortable.
Compared to recent games though, the Mineral Town ones are Really Basic. And while I love the games for their nostalgia, I know some people will be bored to tears by them of they go from playing the more recent games to that. Even when FoMT hit the switch last sumer I had a bit of whiplash going "oh, there's so little on the calendar, and I only have how many different crops to grow? nothing grows in winter? okay." because I had just come off from playing Trio of Towns.
If you want to be busy and have 100 goals to meet, stick to the newer games. If you just wanna chill and do whatever, try some of the older games if you can.
I think, if you have the time/ability to go back and play the old games, and you want to do it, then by all means, go for it!
A lot of them are only available to play on technology that a lot of people don't have floating around their homes anymore. If they didn't get a next gen port to an easily accessible console, so unless you still have a functioning PS2 or GBA, you're not going to have the chance to play them. Yeah, emulators are out there and they work, but in my experience they're also annoying and buggy, and not an ideal way to play the games. If you have the consoles, but not the games, getting your hands on copies can be very expensive.
You are already prone to play the old games. You're gonna play them regardless of my opinions on them. You're gonna shell out the cash or set up the emulator, or dust off the Wii and pray it still works, and i hope you enjoy your time playing!
These games have been coming out over 20+ years at this point, and while many of them are just remakes/reskins/girl versions, that's still so much time covered in video game technology. And comparing the earliest games to the most recent ones is more of an exercise in frustration and futility. You're never going to find the right answer.
(I also don't know what your personal gauge for 'old' is, Nonny. Because Old for me are games that are 20 years old. Old for you might be games that are 5 years old, which was like... last week from my perspective, so...)
All this to say, I guess I'll give a brief opinion on the games I have played, and y'all can make your decisions as you please from there.
Back to Nature/Mineral Town Games: My OG game. Always holds a dear spot in my heart for nostalgia. Love the town, love the characters, love the music, can do no wrong, a very enjoyable, if basic, farming game. Easy to play for a bit, set down for a while, and pick up and play again without feeling like you've forgotten you were in the middle of something important.
HM GBC 3: Pretty sure I was 10 last time I played it, so grain of salt. I found it more boring than the MT games, the town and maps were smaller, none of the characters had portraits, I didn't really get all of the details to make the farm work. I'm sure if I went back now as an adult I would have a better time, but I have no desire to emulate it. If you want to emulate it, go for it, but be warned that if you play as a girl, the game ends after you get married. Doesn't do that if you play as a boy so...
Save the Homeland: I kept going back to replay this game for years. I thought the premise was fun, and I always wanted to try and get all of the endings, but never did. I would buy it again in a heartbeat if it got remastered. Different from other games tho, in that you only get one year to play and get an ending, and once you do, the game restarts you at Spring 1 and nobody knows who you are again. You get to keep your animals and house upgrades, but there's no dating and marriage.
Island of Happiness: I love the setting and the characters, but god FUCK that weather system. Can't get shit to grow unless you obsessively track if it rains and how sunny it is and it completely ruined the game for me. I tried playing it again a couple years back and couldn't be bothered to keep tracking stuff. I never once unlocked all of the crops or livestock on any of my playthroughs. Did manage to play long enough to get married once.
SoS1: The game that convinced me to go back to buying new stuff after IoH kind of put me off new HM games for the better part of a decade (I had FoMT to replay it was fine). Liked it well enough, thought some of the characters were a bit bland, but still enjoyable enough to get married and have a kid. Unlocking all the vendors is a bitch though, and I still haven't gotten them all. A fine game, but if you're only going to play One 3DS game, I wouldn't suggest this one.
Trio of Towns: This one ties with FoMT as my favorite game! I love everything about it. The Characters, the setting and premise, the music, the depth of events. There's so much to do, there's never a boring day, but that can also feel overwhelming if you're the kind if person who tries to do everything at once. Not as easy to pick up and put down as some of the more basic games, but it's very replayable in my book and I keep coming back to it.
Pioneers of Olive Town: It's a middling game for me. Like SoS1, it's fine, but unlike SoS1, there's very little to do in the game. I completed the "main story" in less than a year without putting in much effort to complete things in a timely manner. The characters and the game had So Much Potential, particularly after 3oT, and all of it fell flat in my expectations. Plus some of the technical issues we all experienced at launch. Now, I'm still playing it, I don't hate the game, and the updates have made things better. But with the story done and all of the characters feeling a bit Flat, I'm biding my time between DLC updates to see if I want to marry any of the special candidates instead of the base game characters. I'll probably keep playing long enough to get married and probably unlock everything on the farm, but beyond that I'm not super invested.
My final verdict is, if you have a 3DS, get Trio of Towns, if you only have a Switch, get Friends of Mineral Town. If you want to put forth the time and effort into acquiring the old games, or emulating them, by all means go for it.

2020 July Update
Things have gone slowly... again.
The good news is that the game is now submitted to the console "authority" and it's entirely off my hands. Once it gets through the console "checking" process, it can get a release date and we can sprint towards release. Until then, it'd be at least a month's wait or more until I hear anything. Understandably, their checking process is impacted by Corona, so wait times are increased.
On my end, I was also slow to submit the game. I submitted it late late June, since I ended up spending 7 weeks fixing bugs (and not 2-3 weeks like I estimated in the last blog post). There were just SO many bugs - now squished, thankfully. Since this is a blog post, I'll talk about what kind of bugs I've been fixing.
The other thing that slowed down the submission process was simply due to unfamiliarity with how these submissions proceed. There were pages and pages of stuff to read, guidelines to follow, and legalese to wade through. It really made me wish I had a publisher to guide me through the process. But I was able to clear it with a couple days work. I had an impression that the submission process went like A->B->C->D, with no room for concurrency. Turns out I could have done steps B & C at the same time and sped things up by 2 weeks... So that's that. I'm taking that as a lesson for next time.
The Console Revealed
What is this console that I talk about so stealthily? So that this blog update isn't completely unexciting, I'll reveal which console I've been working on until now. Drumroll please!
Tumblr media
It's Switch!
We actually got the Switch dev kit in late 2017. From my understanding, around this time in the USA, the Switch kit was quite hard to get for indies as it was just starting out and high in demand. So I was surprised that my application got approved. I didn't know it then, but the game would still need a few more years of development...
Tweaking performance and fixing bugs
Tumblr media
Here you can see my "expert" playtest setup. Since the Switch is more powerful while docked, I needed to playtest it in handheld mode, so I could catch and profile any problem areas where the framerate was unsteady. The most common thing that caused framerate drops were areas that went overboard with lighting. For these areas, I'd tweak or swap out the lights with alternatives that looked similar while also being less computationally intensive. Maintaining 60 FPS is a must!
An old camera (Nikon D3100) trained at the screen recorded my playthrough and would let me rewind to any moment a bug occurred. It could only record in 10 minute chunks, so I'd have to repeatedly repress the record button. On the plus side, because it's so old the movie file sizes were small and convenient.
The number one bug that I tracked and fixed in the past two months was what I dub the "Gear Ring De-equip" bug. The Gear Ring functions as customizable shortcut keys for the player to map items and tools (see an old video demonstration HERE). Through regular use of the inventory, somehow the equipped items on the Gear Ring would be de-equipped. It was an elusive bug since the de-equip event would happen very quietly and you would only suspect something had gone wrong much later. By then, the trail had gone cold and you weren't sure if a de-equip had actually occurred or if the player had simply de-equipped the item themselves. Two other playtesters noted that something left the Gear Ring in their playthrough, but I dismissed them. "Are you sure you didn't just de-equip it yourself?" It was a bug that bred mistrust and discord. I didn't truly believe it until it happened to me...
Luckily, with the camera setup, I was finally able to track it. In the literal 67th video, I caught a live instance of the bug occurring. After which, it was all too easy to recreate the exact same inventory and gear ring setup and replicate it.
Tumblr media
(With this exact item layout, combine the 2nd item with the 14th item... and viola! Gear Ring de-equip!)
After fixing this bug, I then proceeded to fix it 5 more times. Every time I fixed it, it would later reappear through a different mechanism.
Why do bugs like this happen? Underneath, there are two lists of items. Tools on the right and items on the left. Items can occur multiple times because they're consumable. Both lists start counting their indexes with the value 0. However, both items and tools co-exist on the gear ring. So to uniquely identify an entry you need both the item ID and the data index. Failure to check both data types resulted in bugs like the Gear Ring de-equip. Now throw in a bunch of item operations that can confuse the system. You can split items, combine items, swap items, or discard items. The more freedom you allow, the more ways there are for the system to trip up.
If you didn't get all that, that's alright. It was needlessly complicated. Imagine doing more and better and with less code and less bugs! Such a thing is possible if you start with the right design. I'm definitely taking notes here on how to design inventory systems for next time. In the meanwhile, I'm very confident I've squished all inventory related bugs.
Other bugs squashed and features implemented in the past 2 months include the end game arts not unlocking properly, collection percentages climbing beyond 100, stray doors floating in the sky, low HP sfx blaring when loading different files, balance tweaks on bosses, a max HP display when the menu is open - too many to count really! It was only after I fixed them all that I was confident enough to move forward with submitting the game. I apologize for the delay this will cause!
PC version back in progress
You may recall in the March 2020 update I talk about how in pursuing the Switch version, I unwittingly ruined the PC version. Well, since the game is "done" now and I'm waiting for it to go through the checking process, I've started working to reclaim the PC version.
Tumblr media
And there is some good news to report. The PC version can compile again! Of course, it will need to have some work done, since it was late 2017 when I last had a functioning PC build.
The opening menu is broken, the underlying save file system needs to be updated, and the controls... oh Lord, the controls. Controls were probably the #1 factor in pushing me to pursue a console version first. There are just so many controller options. Even just the usual suspects are numerous: Xbox, Nintendo, Sony, Logitech, Hori, 8Bitdo, Steam...
One of the number one complaints received regarding the flash game (which was keyboard primarily) was that I didn't allow controller rebinding to start. It was then that I learned of the vast array of different keyboard types.
Tumblr media
(Ever heard of an Azerty keyboard?)
I shan't make the same mistake twice! One of the things I'll definitely tackle is the Right/Left face button feud when it comes to which should one should be 'confirm' and which one is 'cancel'. I want to allow the player to choose which is their "YES" and "NO" preference and allow that to overlap other actions like Attack or Jump.
Even after control bindings are taken care of, some things just won't translate well. The right control stick is currently used to access the gear ring and for fishing. Keyboards have no right stick. Aiming the crossbow with a full 360 degrees of range is done with the left control stick - if keyboard only, would the crossbow simply be locked to the 8 cardinal directions? What about those tutorial prompts with button graphics (e.g. "Press 'B' to Jump"). If using the playstation controller, it'd need to be the CROSS symbol. How many button graphics are we gonna load into the text module? What if the player, mid-playthrough, decides to swap out controllers? Indeed, there are many issues to tackle where controls are concerned...
Perhaps I'm overthinking it because even some AAA games get this wrong (Dark Souls has 'B' as 'Yes' on Switch, and it's not remappable, which I find quite annoying). I've seen games on consoles where the controls wouldn't mention the console's controller at all but instead mention a mouse and keyboard. Or, if you remapped the controls, the tutorial prompts still showed the old control bindings, making for a confusing experience. I definitely want to do the controls justice, so this will take some time.
Phoenotopia DISCORD Channels
Ryan and Firana have been running a Phoenotopia discord since late 2017, which I promoted on this blog once. It's been a couple years and it turns out that the old discord link I promoted expired. It's long overdue, but their channel could use another shoutout. Here's their channel : https://discord.gg/cnjrYST
Also, Khalid recently reached out to me about creating a Phoenotopia discord as well. I see no reason why we can't have 2 or more discords, so he has created that one with my blessing as well. You can find his discord here : https://discord.gg/cfnsCwy
I personally don't use Discords, since I'm very busy and there's too much new tech to keep up with. I hear there's a Tik Tok now? Should I create a Tik Tok for Phoenotopia? Hmmm...
Anyway, if you'd like to chat with other people who are similarly enthused for Phoenotopia, do check them out!
Fan Arts
We have five new fanart submissions this time around from regulars and new alike.
Tumblr media
Cody G. returns with this pair of sketches of Gail. One seeks to answer the question, "how is Gail so strong?" Cody's answer is that under her sleeves she's actually really buff! This might be the most ripped rendition of Gail yet. Also, in the right drawing, the letter 'E' kinda melds with her bat, making it look like a keyblade!
Tumblr media
What if Gale was a Shrek character? A new artist, Samu Kajin, from tumblr answers that question with a rendition of Gail sporting ogre style antennae. Samu Kajin says she can be called "Gaek" or "Shrale". I like the poncho!
Tumblr media
Shafiyahh returns with a pretty portrait of Gail. Unlike their previous digital pieces, this one was made with color pencils! I like how her hair blends pink and purple colors together, and this pattern is also present in the eyes. Reminds me of a certain character. And the eyes are so sparkly despite using color pencils! Major props!
Tumblr media
Negativus Core also returns with this relevant image of Gail, masked and running, presumably from Corona. It gave me quite a chuckle! I like the angle and tilt of this run pose because you can see the sole of her foot - that's how you know she's at full sprint! A skillful blur localized to her left foot show's just the right amount of motion. Gotta love the robot's expression too!
Tumblr media
A rare 3D art has emerged. Dany Q crafted this adorable figure of Gail that is as cute as a button! I like how well it translates the pixel character over to 3D, capturing the 3 stitches on her shirt and even catching her stray strand of hair. It kinda reminds me of a Wallace and Gromit character, so I can picture it moving and animating in that unique claymation style.
Next Time
I'm ~80% confident we can clear the Switch console checking process and drop the trailer with a release date before the next blog post. But once again, if things go slowly, you'll hear from us in 2 months...

okay so have some thoughts on the sea of thieves potc dlc under the cut now i’m done! obviously spoilers incoming for anyone who wants to play/experience these for themselves
tall tale #1: pure, unadulterated fun. the first one is definitely the most straightforward adventure with this really trippy section at the start with potc ride queue music and ambient rushing water sounds that make you feel like you’re about to get on the ride and smell the water. we spent most of our time yelling at the talking skull to shut up and then realising that we actually needed him for a lot of the side content lmao.
tall tale #2: if you can get through the entire thing undisturbed by other players being assholes and glitches, this one is reaaaallly cool. we had to abandon our group attempt because of the former and i went back to resume it alone later on. the reveal of the black pearl chained to the ocean floor is just. chills. and anamaaaarriiiaaaa. of all the characters to appear in this, i was not expecting her.
tall tale #3: hands down my favourite purely for the number of film and ride references, like they really threw the whole lot into this one and i recommend everyone interested just go and watch a playthrough on youtube because it is SO fun. jack really said i’m dead again and this time i want to stay dead and i’m gonna make the player go through a dreamscape of moments from my past (i.e. moments from the trilogy and a bonus sequence from the original ride which was my absolute faaave) in order to catch me and tell me to get back to the land of the living and help fix the mess i created. also barbossa gets a cameo, which is fun, and gibbs writes a book on jack sparrow which??? thank you rare for confirming my headcanon lmao.
tall tale #4: flying dutchman flying dutchman. and the score??? like the score is consistently incredible throughout, but it really shines in this one due to the different variations of the davy jones theme they use. also this one made my jack/calypso shipper heart very happy, i’m just saying. plus jack is the most interactive by backseat sailing in this one (rather than being peripheral/having to spend the entire adventure chasing him down lmao) and helps out during combat. making davy jones straight up evil (even though it’s loosely explained by the fact that this is davy jones after the dmtnt end credits scene) is kinda meh but. it’s generic fare for potc tie-ins
tall tale #5: jack saved my life far too many times in this tall tale, i hate to owe him such a debt lmaoo. this one was the grand finale and it was definitely Stressful. but the cutler beckett cameo was very, very appreciated because he is so often forgotten about in wider universe stuff. i feel like i have to go back and watch someone play it again to truly understand what beckett was doing there because i feel like there was a Grand Scheme there that flew completely over my head due to the Stress of doing this one on my own?? but that was definitely a Thing. davy jones becomes marginally less Straight Up Evil but that’s still kinda meh. also there are journals on the black pearl at the very end which are very enlightening as to how this connects to a post-dmtnt jack and i actually find them pretty interesting to consider in my post-dmtnt verse. also we still never found out who this mysterious female person is that jack made a promise to and i think this mystery will haunt me for the rest of my days. obviously i know who i want it to be, but who i want it to be is definitely not who it is lmao.

And that’s the episode.
Man.  This show really makes me smile.  What an excellent group of friends.  Watching Hinata break down as it really hit her how much her new friends care about her was...wow.  That felt really good.
Hinata has always held her cards close to the chest, and watching her walls come down and her letting herself cry as her new friendship washed over her was so good.  And wow was there a lot of ship fuel in this episode.  I’m still mulling over the pairing versus Mari/Shirase, but I really like Hinata/Shirase.  It’s good stuff.
I’m going to be so sad when this show is over.  No joke, this might be my favorite anime I’ve watched, although I haven’t watched very many.  It’s so good and sweet and joyful.  I love it.
That’s going to be all for tonight.  Up next is going to be the start of season 3 of She-Ra!  We’ll be getting to that in the next couple days.  Meanwhile, I’ve been streaming my way through the final campaign of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the Blue Lions route, and I’m going to be continuing that for the foreseeable future.  You can catch me live on Twitch or check out the playlist of all three campaigns (plus the DLC) here.

Been real busy lately, so on my own ME:LE playthrough I’ve basically done Therum --> Feros and am currently on Noveria. I’ve also done literally all the sidequests except the Consort sidequests possible to do so far (and also not BDtS if you count that as a sidequest.)  Going to try to get through another big chunk this weekend.
Still really not sure if I’m gonna play MELE2 & 3 or just do an all-new modded playthrough of ME2 & 3.  It’s gonna be awhile until real mods are possible with ME:LE2 and 3... so I really want to see the new lighting and textures and such, but mods already add a lot of that, plus better bugfixes and more content.
Also I need to find a SQL/PHP developer to help me finishing figuring out why I can’t get masseffectlesaves.com to connect to the database so we could actually start taking saves.  Spent many hours on that last weekend and I’m about as far as my own knowledge can take me. =\

ok, now i gotta ask you about some characters. how about leliana and/or junia?
Aha... Nuns /j But starting with Lelianaaaaa
(under a read more because it got LONG specifically my points on Junia because holy fuck she makes me go feral I could talk about her for AGES oh my god)
How I feel about this character: Oh she's definitely one of, if not my favorite character. Though I played inquisition first and didn't have as much of a chance to get invested in her with my first playthrough (though I abandonded it because I messed up lots of stuff-) after I played again, she became one of my favorites in Inquisition. I adored the way she was open about supporting the mages, and after playing through origins, it really solidified my feelings about her. I played through Origins romancing her (because i am a stupid lesbian) and honestly, the way you were able to educate her about elven issues (i forget if it was dalish or not, and I haven't done a Surana playthrough yet) and the fact that she was receptive was mwah. Plus, her voice is amazing and I could fall asleep to it :') I Care Her
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Any ocs really! Surprisingly, I don't put too much thought into ships with DA, but really I like most!
My non-romantic OTP for this character: of course josephine and Leliana, I adore how they get along and just. Good Friends. I also have a new Tabris in mind who would probably romance Zevran, and while I don't have *much* in the way of ideas, I think they'd get along dfjdffd
My unpopular opinion about this character: Oh, I don't know what opinions about Leliana *are* unpopular. I try to stay away from the DA fandom, save for little bits here and there. I don't think I particularly *have* any? I mean, I do go for hardening in origins, softening in inquisition, but that's just me.
One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: Yeah, being able to marry the warden (if possible) and telling Cullen off. There are just... *so* many situations where I wish she would, but specifically about mage issues.
And now for Junia,,, How I feel about this character: DFHSDFJGMGAOUGH.... GOD I love her with all my heart there are not enough words for me to describe how much i love this stupid little battle nun oh my god, her barks make me sob, her design is Cool, and god even just in game there have been so many times where she's saved my ass MWAH i love her. Her backstory just makes me cry, and everytime i'm like "i'm feeling too good i need to be knocked down a notch" i go read her barks and sob UGH. God I love her so much I almost always have her on a party like. If not for her healing it's because seeing her makes me go :]]]
All the people I ship romantically with this character: PARA... PLAGUE DOCTOR... THEY CAN HOLD HANDS. AS A TREAT. PERHAPS EVEN.. KISS.. I don't even know why I ended up loving this one so much i was just like. doing the first dungeon with the usual suspects and I just went "wow :)" and started thinking about them and BOOM they're in love now sorry <3 besides that, I also enjoy her with Boudica, Damian, THOUGH I do like Audrey/Para/Junia. They all have two hands. It works out. A circle, you see.
My non romantic OTP for this character: Oughhhh this is a weird one, but her and Audrey. At least with the way I like to write the characters, Audrey being able to help Junia just loosen up and realize "hey we're all gonna fucking die here at least have a bit of fun you Idiot" and Junia helping Audrey uhh ya know not be such an ass. My other weird little thing is Baldwin and Junia, as I just. I really don't have a reason why, other than I feel they might get along and Junia would probably enjoy being friends with somebody she can. I dunno. Rely on. I could go more into that but ijust like them getting along
My unpopular opinion about this character: hngngng I might have several? 1: I don't. really enjoy her with Reynauld, but *honestly* that's because I don't like Reynauld too much as a character? He's interesting, don't get me wrong, but I'm not super invested in him and I really just kinda... pass him by. And of course that's weird bc I'm fine with her and Damian, but I just feel that relationship would have a bit more. I really don't know. Substance? It's just not my cup of tea. And also I don't LOOOVE the "oh haha horny nun" jokes, like. Of course they're fine to make! And of course, being the game it is, characters will most likely be reduced down to a character trait or two, but it's just. Tired? Worn out? There's more to her than the fact that just that. But also, I make those jokes too! Just feel like that shouldn't be her entire personality. Make the jokes you wanna make and maybe i'm just too sensitive, idk! there's just a bit more to her than Horny:tm:
One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: * shakes tin can * lore? Spare lore please? I don't want to have to comb her barks for just a smidge of understanding I want to KNOW what happened to her please just spare the loreee,, and also I WISH we could've had specific in character conversationsss like. I wanna hear her and paracelsus interact! God, I wanna see her and /Audrey/ interact, please redhook come on im begging you i just want them to talk even if they don't get along it won't do anything enemies to friends (to lovers) come here i'll s rank their relationshiips i'll d

Bit of a long post so bear with me.
I’ve been replaying some Choices books in light of certain ongoing events in my country, so I’m comfort/stress gaming, lol. I’m not sure what book to replay next. Wanting something that’s fairly low stakes, so I decided to look back at what I’ve already finished and pick out the best ones to fit my needs. To wit:
Across the Void - Hmm. Been considering it. Still don’t like the ending, but I do like some bits of it. And it’s interesting enough that it intrigues me, but not so much that I get nervous. A definite maybe.
America’s Most Eligible - A strong contender. Also a good combo of interesting but not gripping my heart to the point of anxiety, lol.
Bachelorette Party - another good contender, though I remember finding the plot a bit exhausting (“the MacGuffin is here! ...no wait, it’s over there! ...no wait...” and on and on for like 15 chapters). Also, only one LI is really worth a damn, and I already romanced her the first time.
Big Sky Country - Just finished a playthrough recently. Gotta let it settle before going again, lol.
Blades of Light and Shadow - Girl, you don’t even want to KNOW how many times I played through this one to try out all the different race/gender romance combos! At this point, I’m Bladed out! Still love it though, and am gonna play the everloving crap out of Book 2 when it arrives.
Bloodbound - Absolutely not. The stakes are WAY too high. I have to mentally prepare myself every time I replay this one, otherwise I’ll dissolve into a puddle of nerves by the end of Book 2. (Also I’ll probably just end up romancing Jax yet again because I can help myself.)
A Courtesan of Rome - Probably not, tbh. I tend to get invested in this one’s story a bit more than I’m wanting to at the moment.
Desire and Decorum - Nope. Too investing. And Book 2 is a landmine of nerves for me (“will MC and LI be able to be together? Or will Duke Richards spoil everything??? I know the answer because I’ve played it twice, but at the same time, AHHHHHHHH!”)
The Elementalists - ...maybe? I definitely get invested, but not usually too nervous. The whole ‘MC fighting with their twin’ bit from Book 2 gets to me a lil bit, but I think I can handle it? Putting this one on the list, at least.
Endless Summer - Nooooope. If you’re looking for low stakes, this is not the story for you, lol.
The Freshman - Only to a point. I can handle Freshman Book 3, 4, and Sophomore 1 and 2. But then The Junior happens and oh hello there, nerves! I blame two things: the plot with the Alphas, and MC fighting with her LI.
The Heist: Monaco - Another maybe? I wasn’t super duper invested the first time I played it, but it definitely wasn’t a bad story. Maybe the second time’s a charm?
Hero - Meh. I’m not all that keen on playing through this one again.
High School Story - I just did this one again recently. I love it, but you gotta let things breath, lol.
Home for the Holidays - Another meh. I might replay it, but it’s a lower tier story to be sure.
Hot Couture - Nah. Didn’t interest me enough.
It Lives Anthology - Low stakes? Nah, how about THE HIGHEST STAKES IMAGINABLE?!?! Needless to say, no I will not be replaying these ones any time soon. They’re great, but my heart can’t take it, lol!
LoveHacks - Yet another maybe. I’m kind of meh about most of this one, but it’s not too bad. And the stakes are super low. So maybe.
Mother of the Year - Not this one. It’s amazing (maybe the best Choices book? So far?), but because it’s so great, it’s also suuuuuper investing. Never doubt how much this one means to me, though. Maybe one day I’ll replay it and try romancing someone other than Thomas, lol. I JUST REALLY LIKE HIM OKAY?!?
Nightbound - Stakes are too high. You read my post from a while back, right? About being so soft that MC meeting their Dad and Stepmom just about made me cry? That softness has not changed.
Passport to Romance - The thought of replaying this one is sending me right to sleep. Maybe one day.
Perfect Match - I don’t know, man. I really should replay it, but the first handful of chapters in Book 2 are like a vice-grip on my heart. They get me all like “WHERE’S DAMIEN?!? WHY ARE WE NOT MORE ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR HIM OMG?!!? *clutches chest, heavy breathing*” So yeah, I get a little too invested in this one, methinks.
Red Carpet Diaries - Maybe? I would love to romance Thomas again, lol. And the stakes aren’t very high at all.
The Royal Romance - NO I’M STILL NOT READY FOR THE ENDING OF TRH BOOK 2. AND READING SPOILERS FOR THE MOST RECENT CHAPTERS MAKES ME WANT TO SCREAM. IN FEAR, IN ANGER, IN EVERY EMOTION POSSIBLE. In other words, the stakes almost could not be higher.
Rules of Engagement - Part of me wants to. A somewhat interesting story, with pretty low stakes. Plus ‘Party Girl Sister’/Blake is the only ship I care about in this story. So put this one on the maybe list.
Save the Date - Just finished one. So back to the end of the queue it goes.
Sunkissed - UGH. NO THANKS.
Veil of Secrets - I think the stakes are just a bit too high for this one. The mystery really gets me, man. And the LIs are great.
Wishful Thinking - might be the perfect blend of interesting though not super investing, with stakes high enough to make you want to see it through, but low enough to not make me anxious. Definitely a maybe. I’d just end up romancing the same LI though.
Hmm... might come down to a dice roll, lol. We’ll see.
