Plumbing Leaks That Can Attract Pests
Tumblr media
Pests are attracted to places that are moist - this explains why there is creepy crawlies in the dark, wet areas of your home. This may be under the sink, in the basement, in plumbing fixtures that are leaking and in need of repair, and in a poorly maintained drain. Some common pests a leak can attract are cockroaches, rats, centipedes, book lice, termites, and silverfish. It is important to have a regular plumbing maintenance and routine plumbing check-ups if you don’t want to attract these pests.
Plumbing Inspections And Repair To Avoid Pests
Good thing there are things you can do in advance in order to prevent this creepy crawlies from infesting your home.
Basement Plumbing
Most of the plumbing runs in the basement or crawl spaces, it may be downstairs, or in most cases, along with the ceiling. This area is very prone to moisture since all the pipes are here and there is a continuous flow of water daily. An unfinished basement with its exposed plumbing system has a higher chance of being infested with pests because of higher moisture level. Be sure to check the plumbing once in a while and do a quick fix on simple leaks so as to not worsen the problem. For finished basements with no pipes exposed, check your ceiling or wall for brown stains, this is a sign that there is a leak in one of your home’s plumbing pipes.
Leaking Faucet
Faucets and shower heads can leak unnoticeable for a long time, and maybe by the time you realize it, it has already worsened. Water can leak through slow steady drips, hidden leaks near the handles or in the base. Make sure to do some regular checking on your faucets at least once a month. Of course, you shouldn’t just look for leaks on the faucet itself, look at its whole body - from top to underneath the sink where most of the leaks go unnoticed.
Water Utilizing Appliances
Common types are the dishwasher and washing machine that uses gallons of water for its function. If any of your water utilizing appliance is too old, in need of maintenance, is malfunctioning, or has a clog in the waterline, then this may cause some leaks. Ensure these appliances work flawlessly and efficiently with a help of a professional plumber or repairmen
Water Heater
Like any appliance that uses water with its function, the water heater is another plumbing fixture that is prone to water leakage. This can happen if any part of it is broken or needs some maintenance. So, it’s not just your plumbing system that needs maintenance, be sure to keep an eye on your plumbing fixtures, too! To avoid your water heater from attracting pests through water leakage, have a professional plumber do some maintenance and repairs on your plumbing appliances.

DIY Plumbing: Is it worth your effort and money?
Tumblr media
As an essential part of our homes, plumbing systems are present in every house. Most of the people don’t give attention to their plumbing system until they have problems with it. So my advice, as early as purchasing a new house, be aware of its plumbing system. Not just the system but also the other components that your house have. It is always better to be knowledgeable and skillful about these.
Through time, a plumbing system could have problems like dripping faucets, leaky pipes, low water pressure, running toilets, slow or clogged drains, pump failures and many other more. These problems may be caused by low maintenance or simply by overuse. As these problems come, of course as our natural default, we humans will want to have it fixed. Adventurous people would more likely try and do it themselves. Most of the time if it is your first time trying to fix a plumbing problem, especially a major one, chances are that you will fail. I’m not discouraging you to try and test your ability, I’m just stating the mere possibility. Well of course if you have studied plumbing and are skillful about it you might solve your problem. But again, if you’re a newbie you should think twice before taking action. When you try to solve plumbing problems on your own, there is a great chance that you could make mistakes, and these mistakes could lead you to a bigger problem. I will give you a sample flow if a newbie tries to fix a plumbing problem. A homeowner discovers a plumbing problem, he buys the tools needed to use, he then tries to fix it, after hours of trying and cursing he then develops a new or bigger problem, he loses hope and then he calls for plumbing service. He just wasted his time, effort, and money because he ended up not solving the problem and hiring a plumber, which is another expense. See where this small problem can lead you? You can waste your own time, effort, and money. Think twice again. Licensed plumbing experts are not licensed just because they want the job, they are licensed because they are skillful and knowledgeable about every aspect of plumbing. For example, they know how to diagnose a problem, what items to use, what safety precautions to take first, and how to fix the problem. While you as normal being and not skillful about plumbing, you might make things worse. That is why my advice for you especially if you’re not skillful enough about plumbing, it is better to hire a plumbing service. And as you hire a plumbing service, the plumber might also share you some knowledge about plumbing, which is really beneficial because you could use that knowledge in the future. Remember, before hiring a plumbing service, make sure you call the best plumbing service providers in your town, do some research on the internet or ask your neighbors.
