Nayla Tempesta X Emihiko T. Raiden (OC F/O)
(i wrote this some time back so its not that good, i’m not a huge fan but i havent posted any writing for myself in a while or of these two aka it win the poll. i cant explain these two in a normal way. they like suck. but it works with each other so they suck but it balances out with one another. one is a whiny clingy weirdo and the other is a sick moody freak. idk what else to say!)
“Please, Lala? Just a few?” The werewolf pleaded, unable to take his attention off the tube of lipstick on the vanity. Pressing his hands together in a mock form of prayer, he batted his lashes and peered up at his partner with hazel green eyes filled with an innocence Emihiko did not actually posses and a hunger that he certainly did.
His taller partner glanced over at him from where he stood, unfazed by his antics. It almost irritated him given the circumstances. There had been a tension already formed in the air of the bedroom, one consisting of a stiff annoyance at the prospect of leaving the house. Fixing his earrings in the mirror, he carried on with getting himself ready. “You can’t actually be serious, not when you were begging to go out.”
“It’s not a big deal! We can always go out another time!” The blond protested, arms making exaggerated motions as he spoke. It was a dangerous game to play, but he was unable to resist the dark shade that made his vampire’s lips the most enticing thing. They’d become his newfound addiction in the past few months, the kind that you just couldn’t quit, and the color simply added fuel to the flame. “Can’t I have you all to myself when you’re looking like that?”
Irritation was obvious on her face, turning to look at the male who sat down at the edge of the bed with a cocky grin that seemed a bit too sure he would receive a positive answer. Her grey eyes scanned the man who sat at the edge of the bed infront of her, taking in the way he’d given up buttoning his shirt or putting on his shoes, or even the way his tail wagged slowly in some form of anticipation. She particularly lingered on the bit of his stomach that was just barely visible, not going unnoticed by the eyes that already scanned every inch of him.
While Emihiko seemed more than happy to leave their plans behind, he was the same one who had spent a good while trying to convince him to enjoy the nightlife together. The vampire had hoped to make food and rest for the evening, but the man who seemed to always be full of energy insisted otherwise. So much for that.
“Then I got dressed for nothing? I’m not going out with you for a while for doing this to me.” Nayla sighed in frustration, slipping off his heels. She moved towards him, leaning down to reach his eye level. Hands at his hips, he wasn’t finished speaking about his disdain for the eager man’s whiny insistence to stay.
“Maybe I should have rejected you, it would have saved me the trouble.” He continued with a deep scowl, the werewolf only nodding along in response with a dopey smile on his face and a quiet ‘ahuh’.
Reaching a hand out, he gently pulled Nayla, who was still talking, down to sit on the bed next to him. Snaking an arm around his waist, he kept pretending to acknowledge his words. They went on deaf ears, simply because Emihiko knew they held no real meaning.
Not that it was always like this, on some days it may have made him a bit upset and insecure to hear such a proclamation. Perhaps tonight he was just too caught up on the way the dress Nayla picked to wear fit her so well or the way he could get so rilled up at something like this.
“Mhm, you’re right. Of course, cutie.” He nodded, trailing chaste kisses along his shoulder and receiving a quiet scoff in response.
“All you do is ruin my life, inconvenience after inconvenience. You’re selfish.” Nayla instinctively leaned against him by his side, arms crossed over his chest. Emihiko mumbled something back along the lines of an acknowledgement, fingers tracing along his lover’s side.
Even after he continued throwing hurtful remark after remark, his voice slowly grew quiet. The dark haired vampire despised when Emihiko’s confidence remained unshaken, with every careful touch and sweet kiss to his exposed skin. Equally so, that was exactly why he found himself drawn to him. It took a certain kind of bold stupidity to handle someone as intense and cruel as the heir of the Tempesta family.
His eyes drifted to the floor, glancing between his discarded heels and the mess of makeup he was still in the midst of. His expression turned somber. It wasn’t like he wanted to go out to begin with, but it did leave him frustrated.
A soft kiss pressed to her jaw. Emihiko nudged him a bit as he pulled her closer, his smile brightened when arms wrapped around his neck and held him tightly.
“Are you upset? You can tell me. If you really want we can still go. I just…love how pretty you are.” He chuckled nervously, unable to take in every bit of the moment of having him in his arms.
“Y-You’re my first partner, y’know? I caaan’t help iiiit…” Emihiko whined, dragging on his words as he burrowed himself between the crook of the others neck. The wild strands of his hair and his fluffy ears tickled Nayla, making her gently push him away. He looked up at him with an exaggerated frown on his lips.
“We can stay.” She replied in a hushed whisper, almost able to feel the way Emihiko lit up immediately like a puppy who’s been told it can get a treat. She certainly was able to feel the smaller male tackle him to the bed with a newfound excitement.
“Yeah?!” He exclaimed, now sitting over her hips and looking down to him with wide eyes and a toothy grin.
A small wince left the vampire in response, making the blond retract off of him immediately and sit next to him on his knees that dipped into the mattress. He glanced over him with wide eyes and an anxious look on his face. “Sorry, sorry!”
Nayla rolled his eyes, shifting up as he moved himself to sit in front of him in a similar position. Seeing he wasn’t injured, the werewolf’s shoulders relaxed and a small smile graced his lips.
“I am upset, yes.” She spoke sternly with a small frown and began shifting closer. It made Emihiko tense nervously, until he traced a hand along the exposed skin of his scarred chest, his heart almost thumped out of him at the mere action. Nayla peered at him with half lidded eyes, an almost sinister glint in them.
“Make it up to me.”
At the simple command, his pale cheeks reddened considerably as his ears stood straight. He was unable to contain the giggle that was always so goofy to Nayla, flustered by the mere words. It made a slight smile crack at the corner of the vampire’s painted lips.
“Well, uh. Hehe…You know I’ll do anything you say, sweet angel.” Emihiko mumbled nervously, watching with wide eyes as the vampire hummed at his response, seeming satisfied.
“Perfect.” Nayla cheered with feigned joy, hugging the smaller male closely now and placing a kiss on his cheek. He leaned closely to the other’s ear, her voice quiet and more commanding then anything. “Tomorrow I want breakfast, lunch and dinner in bed and complete silence for the entire day. Mhm? Just for me?”
Emihiko blinked for a second, tethering between a lovestruck daze and the requests made to him. Relaxing in her embrace, he pressed his head to Nayla’s chest and whined quietly in protest.
“…F-Fine. Just for you.”
Nayla snickered and grasped his head with both of his hands, brushing some of his bangs away. Beginning to pepper gentle kisses along his round face, his dark lips quickly left black lipstick marks along his chubby cheeks.
“Such a sweet boyfriend I have! Even if he’s a total let down and a stupid loser! Yes, you like me and I’m your world, right?” He coddled with a voice that feigned sweetness, not that the obedient werewolf cared as he nodded slowly.
Closing his hazel green eyes and shuddering, Emihiko basked in the loving lips and doting care of his moody boyfriend as quiet chuckles and incomprehensible words occasionally left him. He was as infatuated as the first moments he fell for the mischievous vampire.
“Can you…do the thing- the thing where you scratch my ears…?” He asked, sluggishly wrapping his arms around her torso. Nayla surprisingly did so, a gentle hand running through his hair and scratching a bit at his scalp. The action was met with a soft rumble from his throat and Emihiko leaning his head into his palm for more.
“I shouldn’t have said all those things to you, by the way…You’re very sweet to me, Emi. Ignoring your selfishness.”
The male in question almost didn’t process those words and seemed unfazed by them initially, but they shocked him to his core deep down. He’d been slowly lulled by Nayla, feeling too tired to form a reaction. Droopy eyes glanced briefly at what he hoped was a small twinge of shyness on his cold-hearted partner’s face. He kept quiet for once, just enjoying those words and everything he knew they meant.
Nayla pressed a longer kiss to his mouth, caressing his rosy cheek with his thumb and sighing after he moved away from the kiss. Filled with both ease and frustration, he just let his lips express his emotions. The blond got the message anyway, his arms squeezing her gently in both an admission of guilt and to comfort him.
There was always something strange about these moments, an unexplainable understanding despite the large wedge between them. A back and forth that held nothing but genuine emotion and left both creatures of the night lost within themselves and each other.
“…I love you, Lala. You’re just so cute and you really are my world.” He mumbled, a small crack in his voice as a smile graced his lips.
“Yes, Emihiko, I know.” She whispered in return, feeling her face warming up just a bit and hiding it as best as she could.
Something was wrong here in the thawed embrace of the vampire who held the werewolf, somewhere. It wasn’t like either of them was in a rush to figure out what.

EGG POLL CONCLUSIONS
thank you to everyone who participated in the final round of the egg poll, and in the entire tournament!!! in case you havent seen the results... RALSEI IS THE WINNER AND IS NOW CROWNED THE OFFICIAL BIGGEST EGG OF 2023!!!!!
the final round was honestly really surprising compared to previous ones! the semifinals were ridiculously competitive and both switched hands multiple times, with final results ending up around 50%. the finals however had ralsei be above 60% for i think the entire run, ending a lot closer to 2/3s for ralsei rather than half. the poll only got about 900 votes, not a small amount at all for the whole tournament but a lot less than the 3000-4000 the semifinals got.
my best guess for why this happened is that the majority of people invested in the tournament wanted/expected marco to win the semifinals, and mob just happened to get a push of support at the last minute. personally i expected marco to win the whole thing! but regardless this outcome was still really fun and im glad everyone joined in how they did :3
now for future things!! first, i am finally going to release the initial raw data for submissions. this is unfiltered and egg-poll is not responsible for its contents. but if you want to see the nominated characters or reasonings you finally can! here is the link:
one last thing, im reposting the initial win-less bracket for the tournament. i would love to see people's personal breakdowns on how they think the bracket should've gone! please fill it out and post "your bracket" in a reblog or @ me in the post :)
thats all for now, thank you again everyone!!

Can Republicans Vote In Sc Democratic Primary

Can Republicans Vote In Sc Democratic Primary
The Presidential Primary Will Not Use The Familiar Top Two Ballot
Republicans launch Operation Chaos 2020 ahead of SC Democratic Primary
California voters can be forgiven for assuming that political party registration doesnt really matter.
In 2010 voters backed a measure to create the states nonpartisan top two election system, in which all primary voters fill out a ballot with every candidate on it regardless of either the voters or the candidates political party. The top two winners then move on to the general election ballot even if theyre both from the same party.
In races for state legislative and congressional seats, the top two method will still reign on the 2020 ballot.;
But when you vote in the presidential primary, its back to the old partisan system: Democrats on the Democratic ballot, Republicans on the Republican ballot, and so on.
So while voting in California usually goes like this under the top two:
In the presidential primary, it looks a little more like this:
Sanders Warns California Primary Could Disenfranchise His Independent Base
OAKLAND Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders charged Friday that Californias primary system threatens to disenfranchise millions of independent voters whose support he has cultivated in the nations most populous state.
Sanders said Friday during a press conference in Santa Ana that he and his team have been campaigning hard to reach Californias 5.3 million no-party-preference voters, who now represent the second largest voting bloc in the state at 25.9 percent ahead of Republicans, who comprise 23.7 percent.
But in California, where voting has already started ahead of the March 3 election, the Vermont senator said hes concerned that independents are not yet turning out in large numbers.
Each party establishes its own presidential primary rules. In California, Democrats allow independents to participate if those voters request a Democratic ballot, while Republicans have a closed system that requires voters to re-register with the GOP.
Unfortunately, under the current NPP participation rules, we risk locking out millions of young people millions of young people of color and many, many other people who wanted to participate in the Democratic primary but may find it impossible for them to do so, he said. And that seems to me to be very, very wrong.
Sanders himself has long been registered as an independent while serving in Congress, but he caucuses with Democrats and has filed as a Democrat to run twice for president.
How Are Presidential Primary Elections Conducted In California
Qualified political parties in California may hold presidential primaries in one of two ways:
Closed presidential primary only voters indicating a preference for a party may vote for that partys presidential nominee.
Modified-closed presidential primary the party also allows voters who did not state a party preference to vote for that partys presidential nominee.
If a qualified political party chooses to hold a modified-closed presidential primary, the party must notify the California Secretary of State no later than the 135th day before Election Day.
Voters who registered to vote without stating a political party preference are known as No Party Preference voters. For information on NPP voters voting in a presidential primary election, please see our webpage on No Party Preference Information.

Effort Underway To Get Republicans To Vote In Sc Democratic Primary
GREENVILLE CO., SC One Upstate group is working to get Republicans to vote in the South Carolinas Democratic primary on February 29.
Karen Martin, the organizer of Trump 2-29, said the group is encouraging Republicans to vote for Senator Bernie Sanders in Februarys primary.
GOP leaders in the Upstate say, the effort is designed to make a point about open primaries.
Trump 2-29 is set to announce their plans during a news conference at Greenville GOP headquarters Thursday morning.
GOP chairs from five counties, and leaders of the Tea Party activist group plan to attend the announcement.
Following the announcement, the group plans to spread their message across Republican social media pages and conservative talk radio shows.
Republican party officials voted in September 2019 to cancel the GOP primary. Party leaders said the cancellation will save taxpayers over $1.2 million.
If There Is Such Evidence I Havent Seen This
Yanna Krupnikov, an associate political science professor at Stony Brook University, told me that even beginning to understand the impact of crossover voting strategies like Operation Chaos or the South Carolina GOPs votes for Bernie Sanders is challenging.
For example, wed first have to assume that partisans would truthfully explain their strategies, she said. Second, wed have to assume a counterfactual of what would have happened if there wasnt any effort by the other party to push a certain candidate. She added she hadnt seen much proof that crossover voting strategies were effective. If there is such evidence, I havent seen this.
Kelly Rader, an associate political science professor at Yale University, agreed, telling me that while crossover voting is common in open primaries, theres little empirical evidence that crossover voters are trying to sabotage the party in the general election. Rather, she said, They seem to be voting for their sincerely preferred candidates. Of the South Carolina GOPs push for Sanders, she said, It seems more like a political stunt to draw attention to the drawbacks of open primaries.

Where The Campaigns Stand
With the exceptions of Tom Steyer and Tulsi Gabbard, each of the seven Democratic candidates competing in South Carolina spent more than three times as many days in Iowa than in South Carolina to date. Combined, the candidates have spent over 120 days in the state since launching their respective campaigns. A Winthrop University survey published Thursday the first qualifying state poll released ahead of the South Carolina debate shows Biden remains the front-runner, narrowly leading the Democratic pack by 5 percentage points. Among black voters, Biden holds a 13-percentage point lead over his closest contender, former hedge fund manager Tom Steyer.
Six days from primary day, CBS News’ poll shows Biden 28% support, Sanders with 23% and Steyer with 18%. Here’s where the candidates stand, going into Saturday’s primary election here:
For months Biden consistently held a double-digit lead in every South Carolina state poll. Even when other early state surveys showed that he may have trouble, time and again;he remained the runaway favorite;in South Carolina especially among African American voters. After 4th and 5th place finishes in Iowa and New Hampshire, respectively, some of his South Carolina supporters;have expressed doubts about his prospects.;His second-place finish in Nevada, though distant, may help ease those doubts, though.

Grassroots Group Of Republicans Say They Are Protesting Open Primaries By Voting In Saturdays Primary
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Cole Kazmarski and thousands of other voters in South Carolina will be casting their ballots in the Democratic Presidential Preference Primary on Saturday.
Kazmarski is the Vice Chair for the Midlands Republican Liberty Caucus. “This coming Saturday I plan to vote for Bernie,” she said.
Kazmarski is taking part in Operation Chaos 2020. Some conservative Republicans in South Carolina are protesting open primaries in the Palmetto State by voting on Saturday. “The only thing you have to lose is you get on their mailing list and they spend a little ad money on you in the future.”
Pressley Stutts is the Chairman of the Greenville Tea Party. He is urging fellow Republicans to vote for Senator Bernie Sanders in Saturday’s primary. “We are open and proud about it,” he said.
Stutts said if Sen. Sanders were to become the Democratic nominee, he believes President Donald Trump would have an easier path to reelection.
According to Stutts, their goal is to get South Carolina to switch to closed primaries. He said, “Primaries are a selection process. It’s not until November we actually have an election. There’s a difference between the selection process which should be done by the Republicans and the Democrats.”
Over at the State House today, the discussion of closing primaries took center stage. A Senate Judiciary Subcommittee took up two pieces of legislation that would change primaries in the state.

Some Republicans want to sabotage Democratic primary in South Carolina
When South Carolina voters cast their votes in the state’s Democratic primary Saturday, registered Republicans will also be able to show up and vote. Here, the state’s primaries are open, which means all registered South Carolina voters can participate in either party’s primary regardless of political affiliation.;
The South Carolina Republican Party;announced;in September that it would join a list of other states that would not hold a presidential primary this year. Historically, the South Carolina GOP also didn’t hold primaries when Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush were incumbents in 1984 and 2004, respectively.
Now, some South Carolina Republicans and Tea Party activists are encouraging Republican voters to participate in Saturday’s contest. Karen Martin, organizer of the Spartanburg Tea Party, is leading Trump 229 , an effort that’s using social media and word-of-mouth to encourage Republicans to vote for Bernie Sanders on Saturday.;
Joe Biden has been leading the race in South Carolina. Martin said that her small group was hoping to win enough support for Sanders to bump him into first place, above Joe Biden, who has been holding onto a shrinking lead in the state.;
The initial impetus for the group, according to Martin, was “who can we pick to coalesce our votes around that would make the most impact on South Carolina Democrats understanding why they should join us closing their primary?”

I Dont See That Happening
Ultimately, she hopes that the crossover vote push will cause South Carolina Democrats the same kind of angst that weve had for years and push them toward closing their primary.
I do not think it was a result of our efforts, even if we were as successful mathematically as we could be, that everyones going to agree to close the primaries tomorrow, she told me, but said coverage of their efforts was already getting traction with Democrats in the fight for closed primaries.
I asked whether Martin was concerned that a Sanders primary victory in South Carolina pushed by Republican crossover voters could ultimately result in a Sanders presidency. She took my point, but said, I dont see that happening.
The Iowa caucuses, she said, showed that the people that make the rules in the Democrat party are not going to allow Bernie to be the nominee. Citing debate rule changes and recent remarks by Democratic Party stalwarts like James Carville, she said that there was no way the party would permit Sanders to win the nomination.
The rule makers in the Democrat party are not going to let him be the nominee, so that is not a concern for us.

“In my opinion;a;vote for Bernie in South Carolina is a vote for Donald Trump because there’s such a stark contrast between his socialistic communistic tendencies versus Trump’s capitalism,” Stutts said.
Stutts and other Trump supporters who gathered at a restaurant in Columbia appeared Wednesday on “Fox and Friends,” a morning program that the president is known to watch.
Stutts said he believes that Trump is “very well aware;of it now, according to my sources, you know with what we’ve been doing with Operation Chaos.”

Why You Need To Vote In The Primary Elections
True or false. You only need to vote in the November presidential election and not the primary elections.
FALSE!
For most American voters, the presidential primary elections matter more than the general election. Like Ive said before, if you live in a red state or a blue state, your vote in the presidential election wont make a difference. The rest of your state will overwhelming vote for a Democrat or a Republican. Your vote wont change your states outcome. .
But the primary elections are an entirely different story.
The presidential primaries determine who will represent the Republicans and the Democrats during the November election. Instead of voting between just 2 candidates, you have the choice of 3 Democrats or 12 Republicans. Unlike the general election, you actually have a chance of voting for your preferred candidate, not just the lesser of two evils.

How Parties Can Enact 17
17-year-old primary and caucus voting does not require state legislative action.;Many states adopting this policy have done so by state law, but others have by changing state party rules.;
State parties have broad authority over their nominating contests.
They may request to allow 17-year-old primary voting by asserting their First Amendment freedom of association rights.
Primary voting rights for 17-year-olds is legal and does not change the voting age.
Only those 17-year-olds who will be 18 by the general election may vote in the corresponding primary election or caucus. FairVote’s proposal treats the nomination contest as an integral part of the general election in which these citizens can vote.
The 26th Amendment prevents states from denying suffrage to 18-year-olds, but does not prevent states from establishing 17-year-old primary and caucus voting.
What Is A Voter
S Carolina Democratic primary: Republicans plan ‘Operation Chaos’
The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act, which took effect January 1, 2011, created voter-nominated offices. The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act does not apply to candidates running for U.S. President, county central committees, or local offices.
Most of the offices that were previously known as partisan are now known as voter-nominated offices. Voter-nominated offices are state constitutional offices, state legislative offices, and U.S. congressional offices. The only partisan offices now are the offices of U.S. President and county central committee.

Are Republicans Or Democrats More Educated
Where Do We Go From Here Democrats Benchmarks And The Way Forward
youtube
Not only are there particularly large shares of non-college voters in these key states, but Democrats underperformed their national numbers with non-college voters in these states in 2020. This is likely because the non-college populations in nearly all of these states are whiter than the national non-college-educated population.
While Democrats current numbers and trajectory with non-college voters raise warning flags, some Democrats have shown in just the past two election cycles how to hit the necessary benchmarks with non-college voters to pull off victories nationallyand in the toughest swing states.
In Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Arizona, Biden hit benchmarks with non-college voters that, combined with his strong performance with college-educated voters, were enough to hand him victories. While he did not win majorities with non-college voters, he won a large enough share to win statewide. In these states, Democrats need to maintain their current standing and ensure that they do not slip further with non-white non-college voters or fall further behind with white non-college voters in the midterms and beyond.
The table below includes benchmarks that Democrats need to hit with non-college voters in key Senate race states for 2022, if they manage to hold Bidens 2020 performance with college-educated voters constant.
Gender Gaps Have Grown Under Biden Trump
Gender gaps in early presidential approval ratings have grown since the Clinton presidency, with both Biden and Trump showing double-digit differences in ratings among men and women. Obama and Bush had gender gaps just below 10 points, while Clinton had a very small gender gap of three points.
Biden’s job approval rating is higher among women than among men, and Trump was rated better by men than women. Notably, the two have had nearly identical approval ratings among men at the same stage in their presidencies, but vastly different ratings among women.
Men
Figures are based on average approval ratings in polls conducted from Jan. 20-March 31 in the year of the president’s inauguration. Gallup
56 3
Women have consistently been a Democratic-leaning group in their party affiliation, though the margin in favor of the Democratic Party has fluctuated: It was 19 points in early 1993, 10 points in 2001, 21 points in 2009 and 15 points in 2017, and is 22 points today.
Men’s party preferences have been more variable, with the group tilting Republican in 2001 and 2021, tilting Democratic in 1993 and 2009, and evenly divided in 2017.
The larger gender gap in Biden’s approval seems to be driven mostly by the widening gap in party preferences of men versus women. Currently, 28 points separate the net party preferences of men and women , compared with 13- to 18-point gender gaps in party preferences for the prior four presidents.
Midterms Reveal That More Educated Americans Are Fleeing The Republican Party
The midterm elections showed that college-educated voters are fleeing the Republican Party and casting ballots for Democratic candidates, to The Wall Street Journal.
Democrats had gained control of 33 formerly Republican house seats as of Friday, with other races too close to call.
Twenty-eight of the 33 flipped seats “are in the top half among all House districts for educational attainment, meaning more than 30% of adults there have bachelor’s or more-advanced degrees,” the Journal reported.
The Democratic Party now controls 90 percent of the 30 House districts with the highest proportions of college-educated people. Going into the midterm elections, Democrats only held two-thirds of these seats.
Democrats have accumulated control over the most educated 30 districts over the last quarter century. Republicans and Democrats evenly split these seats when Bill Clinton took office.
Even in 2016, Republicans still maintained control of 10 of these seats.
Midterm voting revealed some other notable demographic shifts. Democratic support from college-educated white women increased eight percent from 2016, to The Washington Post, which cited Cooperative Congressional Election Study data and a voter model to estimate patterns for the 2018 contests.
While, overall, college-educated voters selected Democratic voters, white college-educated voters did so by a smaller margin.
Fifty-three percent of white college-educated voters selected Democratic House candidates.
News Media Doesnt Help
You might think that people who regularly read the news are more informed about their political opponents. In fact, the opposite is the case. We found that the more news people consumed, the larger their Perception Gap. People who said they read the news most of the time were nearly three times more distorted in their perceptions than those who said they read the news only now and then. We cant prove that one causes the other, but these results suggest that rather than making Americans better informed, media coverage is now feeding our misperceptions.
What The Exit Polls Are Telling Us

Us Senators And House Members Are Smarter Than You Think

In a recent USA Today poll, roughly half of responders said we should replace everyone in Congress. Twains quote and Andy Borowitz’s humor column for The New Yorker suggest the view that Congress members are not very bright is an old and popular belief.
Although there have been research studies examining whether liberal and conservative voters differ in brainpower level, there have been no studies looking at Congress. Until now.
In one of my research papers published earlier this year, Investigating Americas Elite: Cognitive Ability, Education, and Sex Differences, I examined the brainpower levels of multiple groups who hold influence in American society: Fortune 500 CEOs, billionaires, federal judges, Senators, and House members.
Individuals were deemed to be in the top one percent of ability if they attended an undergraduate or graduate school that had extremely high average standardized test scores that put the average person in the top one percent . Researchers have determined that standardized tests, such as the and , are good measures of general intelligence, or g. But what happens when we examine Republicans and Democrats?

Republicans Are Becoming The Poorly Educated Party

There are several key attributes that define the Republican Party in its modern incarnation: its overwhelming whiteness; its self-reported religiosity; its slavish devotion to a man who boasts he could shoot someone and not lose a single vote, thus proving his point. Moving forward, that list should probably also include as a distinguishing factor the fact that the party is less educated than its Democratic political rivals, and growing increasingly more so.
Thats according to a study released earlier this month by the Pew Research Center. The polling organization now finds the widest educational gap in partisan identification and leaning seen at any point in more than two decades between Republicans and Democrats. In 1994, the majority of U.S. residents with four-year college degrees leaned or identified as Republican, at 54 percent; just 39 percent of college graduates leaned or identified as Democrats. As of 2017, those numbers have switched exactly, with the majority of college degree holders now leaning Dem-ward.
Pew notes that white voters continue to be somewhat more likely to affiliate with or lean toward the Republican Party than the Democratic Party .

Over the last few decades, Congress has diversified in important ways. It has gotten less white, less male, less straight all positive developments. But as I was staring at one of the many recent Senate hearings, filled with the usual magisterial blustering and self-important yada yada, it dawned on me that theres a way that Congress has moved in a wrong direction, and become quite brazenly unrepresentative.
No, its not that the place seethes with millionaires, though theres that problem too.
Its that members of Congress are credentialed out the wazoo. An astonishing number have a small kite of extra initials fluttering after their names.
According to the Congressional Research Service, more than one third of the House and more than half the Senate have law degrees. Roughly a fifth of senators and representatives have their masters. Four senators and 21 House members have M.D.s, and an identical number in each body have some kind of doctoral degree, whether its a Ph.D., a D.Phil., an Ed.D., or a D. Min.
But perhaps most fundamentally, 95 percent of todays House members and 100 percent of the Senates have a bachelors degree or higher.Yet just a bit more than one-third of Americans do.
This means that the credentialed few govern the uncredentialed many, writes the political philosopher Michael J. Sandel in The Tyranny of Merit, published this fall.
History Of The Republican Party
youtube
The Republican Party came into existence just prior to the Civil War due to their long-time stance in favor of abolition of slavery. They were a small third-party who nominated John C. Freemont for President in 1856. In 1860 they became an established political party when their nominee Abraham Lincoln was elected as President of the United States. Lincolns Presidency throughout the war, including his policies to end slavery for good helped solidify the Republican Party as a major force in American politics. The elephant was chosen as their symbol in 1874 based on a cartoon in Harpers Weekly that depicted the new party as an elephant.
Two Ways To Read The Story
Quick Read
Growing up in a conservative white household outside Atlanta, Brendon Pace says he always thought of himself as a Republican. But after attending college and starting medical school in Virginia, he became unhappy with the GOP under President Donald Trump, and recently cast a ballot for Joe Biden. Maybe someday hell vote Republican again, he says but for now, theyve definitely lost me.
The diploma divide in U.S. politics predates Mr. Trump. But like many partisan fault lines, from gender to religion, it has gaped wider under his presidency, sending into hyperdrive a decadeslong realignment of the Democratic and Republican parties.
The More Educated A Democrat
Interesting since so many Democrats claim they are better educated than GOP voters or Trump supporters and pretend that means their views are correct. This much we might guess. But whats startling is the further finding that higher education does not improve a persons perceptions and sometimes even hurts it. In their survey answers, highly educated Republicans were no more accurate in their ideas about Democratic opinion than poorly educated Republicans. For Democrats, the education effect was even worse: the more educated a Democrat is, according to the study, the less he or she understands the Republican worldview.

As Americans Become More Educated The Gop Is Moving In The Opposite Direction
Americans are pursuing higher education at growing rates, but those without a college education are increasingly finding a home in the GOP.
According to new released by the Pew Research Center, higher educational attainment is increasingly associated with Democratic Party affiliation and leaning:
In 1994, 39% of those with a four-year college degree identified with or leaned toward the Democratic Party and 54% associated with the Republican Party. In 2017, those figures were exactly reversed.
More than half of registered voters who identify as Democrat have a bachelor’s degree, while fewer than 4 in 10 registered voters who identify as Republican have a bachelor’s degree.
Those with graduate degrees are even more likely to find their political home in the Democratic Party, according to the survey:
In 1994, those with at least some postgraduate experience were evenly split between the Democratic and Republican parties. Today, the Democratic Party enjoys a roughly two-to-one advantage in leaned partisan identification. While some of this shift took place a decade ago, postgraduate voters affiliation with and leaning to the Democratic Party have grown substantially just over the past few years, from 55% in 2015 to 63% in 2017.
Meanwhile, the GOP has increasingly become more of a political destination to Americans who lack a college degree, according to Pew:
This may not bode well for the GOP long-term as the American public becomes increasingly educated.
Cultural Views Override Economic Arguments
Matt Grossman, who heads the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research at Michigan State University, said he believed Democrats in 2020 were smart to adopt a class-based message after Clinton didn’t. Historically, voters respond favorably to the idea of Democrats representing the middle class, he said, and negatively to Republicans as the party for the rich and big business.
“But I think we should learn from the 2020 election that Biden at least made some effort to do that and it doesn’t seem to have made much difference,” Grossman said. “So maybe messaging is not enough to move the needle on these broad social changes.”
Election 2020 live updates: Trump announces drug price rules; Georgia election official certifies Biden victory
The fact Biden struggled with non-college-educated white voters, according to Grossman, reflects the overall shift toward politics based on social and cultural divisions rather than economic. The same trend is found in European nations.
With his cultural not economic brand of populism, Trump fanned fears about racial equity protests that erupted in cities. He pushed for “law and order” during the campaign, slammed the Black Lives Matter movement and accused Democrats of being soft on violence and anti-police. He warned that Biden would turn the USA into a “socialist” country and accused the Democrat of wanting to take away Americans’ guns. Trump even said, “There will be no God” if Biden was elected.
Energy Issues And The Environment
There have always been clashes between the parties on the issues of energy and the environment. Democrats believe in restricting drilling for oil or other avenues of fossil fuels to protect the environment while Republicans favor expanded drilling to produce more energy at a lower cost to consumers. Democrats will push and support with tax dollars alternative energy solutions while the Republicans favor allowing the market to decide which forms of energy are practical.
What These Shifts Mean For Future Elections
The exit polls and results from this years presidential election paint a somewhat different picture than the previous two races. After Obamas second victory in 2012, Democrats were touting a voter constituency made up of young people, diverse voters, and college-educated whites that they felt would provide them solid support for several elections to come. It even prompted Republicans to issue an urging the inclusion of a wider voter base. Yet after Trumps 2016 victory with strong support from older, less urban, and noncollege whites, many Republicans stayed onboard their earlier train.
In retrospect, it seems that both the 2012 Obama coalition and the 2016 Trump coalition overperformed in those elections. The 2020 results suggest neither party can rely solely on those particular sets of voters. As I have , there is no doubt that changing demographicsespecially rising diversityshould benefit Democrats in the long run .
But in the interim, the results of the 2020 election make plain that both parties need to address the interests of a coalition made up of all of these groups. The Trump presidency did not do thisperhaps a Biden presidency can.
Diagnosing The Problem Nationally
National exit poll data over the past few cycles paint the clearest picture of Democrats declines with non-college voters. Under Barack Obama, Democrats won this group in both 2008 and 2012. But while Obama won non-college graduates 51-47% in 2012, Clinton lost these voters 44-52% in 2016. In 2020, Biden split the difference with a narrow 48-50% loss.
Looking at non-college voters by race, it appears at first glance that Democrats only problem is with white non-college voters. Clinton lost white non-college voters by a whopping 37 points, and Biden lost them by a similar 35 points. And this margin does not account for the high turnout among white non-college voters that propelled Trumps margins.
But Democrats problems are not exclusively with white non-college voters. While Biden won non-white voters without a college degree by 46 points, the trend with these voters is not in Democrats favor. From 2016 to 2020, Trump increased his support with non-white non-college voters from 20% to 25%. While this may not look like a large share, because of the centrality of non-white voters to Democrats coalition, any slippage with this group does not bode well for future elections and requires attention.
Biden Party Gaps Nearly 10 Points Higher Than Trump’s; 30 Points Above Others’
youtube
An average of 86 percentage points have separated Democrats’ and Republicans’ ratings of Biden so far, eclipsing the 77-point gap in the early ratings of Trump. This difference results from Biden’s higher scores among his fellow partisans than Trump received . Each got the same low 10% approval ratings from supporters of the opposition party.
Party gaps in approval ratings were about 30 points lower for Obama, Bush and Clinton than they have been for Biden. This is primarily because about one-third of opposition-party supporters approved of the job those presidents were doing early in their terms.
But Biden’s approval rating among his fellow Democrats is also higher than those for Obama and Clinton among Democrats, and for Bush among his fellow Republicans .

When it comes to education, the parties have switched places over the past two decades.
According to a Pew Research Center released this week, Democrats are now the party of college graduates, especially those with post-graduate work. Meanwhile, people with a high-school degree or less, by far the larger group, slightly lean toward Republicans.
Both preferences are the reverse of what they were in the 1990s.
TOP STORIESCapitol Police clear officer who fatally shot Ashli Babbitt
According to Pew, 54 percent of college graduates either identified as Democrats or leaned Democratic, compared to 39 percent who identified or leaned Republican. One-third of Americans have a college degree.
Just 25 years ago, those numbers were perfectly reversed in the Pew survey, with the GOP holding a 54-39 advantage among people with college degrees.
The discrepancy becomes even greater when Pew distilled the sample down to people who have post-graduate education at least some work toward a masters, doctorate, law or similar degree. In that group, Democrats had a 2-to-1 edge, by 63 percent to 31 percent. In 1994, the two parties were almost evenly divided, with the Democratic lead just 47-45.
While some of this shift took place a decade ago, postgraduate voters affiliation with and leaning to the Democratic Party have grown substantially just over the past few years, from 55% in 2015 to 63% in 2017, Pew wrote.
More Highly Educated Adults Have Consistently Liberal Views
As Pew Research Centers 2014 report on political polarization found, the share of the overall public that is ideologically consistent that is, the share that takes either consistently liberal or consistently conservative positions opinions across the 10 values is relatively modest, but has grown substantially over time, especially over the past decade.
In the new study, nearly a quarter of Americans have either consistently liberal or consistently conservative views . In 2004, just 11% were either consistently liberal or consistently conservative .
Much of the growth in ideological consistency has come among better educated adults including a striking rise in the share who have across-the-board liberal views, which is consistent with the .
Currently, about a third of those with postgraduate experience give down-the-line liberal responses across the 10 items, up from 19% in 2004 and just 7% in 1994. Among college graduates with no postgraduate experience, 24% have consistently liberal values, compared with 13% in 2004 and 5% a decade earlier.
Among postgrads and college graduates, the shares expressing consistently conservative views also have grown since 2004, from 4% to 10% among postgrads and from 4% to 11% among college graduates. But among both groups, consistently conservative views are at the about the same levels as they had been in 1994.
Overall Us Jews Remain Largely Democratic And Liberal
U.S. Jews are still a largely Democratic and politically liberal group today, as they have been for decades. Overall, about seven-in-ten identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party, including 68% of Jews by religion and 77% of Jews of no religion. Just 26% of U.S. Jews overall identify with the Republican Party or lean toward the GOP.
Jews by religion are considerably more likely than U.S. Christians to identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party; they look much more similar to religiously unaffiliated Americans in this regard, with Democrats making up about two-thirds of each group. Among Christian subgroups, only Black Protestants show higher levels of Democratic support .
Pew Research Center political surveys conducted over the past two decades show Jews have consistently identified with the Democratic Party over the GOP by a wide margin.
Furthermore, the new survey finds that 50% of Jews describe their political views as liberal, triple the share who say they are politically conservative . Jews of no religion a group that is considerably younger, on average, than Jews by religion are especially likely to call themselves liberal .
Whites Made Biden Competitive In Racially Diverse Sun Belt States
As the final votes were being counted, three Sun Belt states remained competitive between Biden and Trump: Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada. While their final outcomes also depended on nonwhite racial groups, white voting blocs in these states shifted since 2016 in ways that benefitted Biden. See Figure 4 and .
Take Arizona. It is a state that has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1996. While rapidly diversifying, its older white population has leaned heavily toward Republicans. This time was different; white college graduate women and men flipped sharply toward Democrats, from 2016 Republican advantages of 2% and 12%, respectively, to 2020 Democratic advantages of 15% and 3%. Likewise, white noncollege men reduced their Republican support from 28% to 10%. In addition, Arizonas senior population flipped from Republican support to even Democratic-Republican support.
These shifts, as well as increased Democratic support among 18- to 29-year-olds and continued Democratic support from the states Latino or Hispanic voters, contributed to Bidens vote gains in Arizona.
Georgia, a longtime deep red Republican state, has been inching toward battleground status due to its large and growing Democratic-leaning Black population. Yet its strong white Republican margins have led to GOP presidential wins since 1996. This year, those white Republican margins were reduced enough to make the state competitive.

Affordable dental insurance for dream act kids?
So, my girlfriend is a dream act student who will be going to university next year. recently she had a huge tooth ache and she found out that she had to get a root canal. She had a cavity for over a year because her divorced parents both refused to pay the fee -_-, they kept saying that the other should have to pay, and now a year later its so bad that she has to get a root canal. Root canals are freaken expensive and her parents are probably not going to want to pay for that, so my question is: are there any sort of affordable dental insurance for students on the Dream Act, keep in mind they don't have much money. would any government programs cover her as a dream act student? please give me any information that could help her with getting some sort of insurance. It's like this with her parents for anything that has to do with health care, -_- neither of them ever want to pay.""

What are the costs of an older used car?
I'm not talking too old here, but something about five for six years old used for around $9000 i am looking into. There seem to be quite a few used cars in this price range around here. Now from someone with no experience in buying a vehicle from a dealership, and having average credit, what kind of costs am i looking at if i were to go ahead with this? Is it common for the dealership to provide financing, and what would be my options? I know i'd need a down payment and that there are other fees included, but i was interested in more of my monthly payment options. I could afford roughly 200 a month plus insurance, but is something like this possible? Or would a dealer just laugh at me and tell me to get lost?""

Car insurance? Do they check your credit rating?
I have just phoned to change my insurance over to another car, and was told twice that it was declined - firstly, he said due to the group of insurance, and secondly, I was told that the operator had a system problem. I am a bit concerned as I know my credit rating is bad at the moment, but I am trying to better it, and I don't know if this is why my insurance was declined? I thought that they had to tell you if they carry out a credit search, but nothing was mentioned and I don't particularly want it going against me if it was searched twice. I have paid my insurance for the year, and was going to pay any extra instantly, so there would be no need for a credit search as far as I can see. Why am I quoted so high for auto insurance?
Recently I have been shopping around getting online quotes for auto insurance in hopes of getting better rates. Sadly that is not the case. The last three quotes I got were from Farmers, State Farm and met. The quotes for 6 months were absurd. Farmers even quoted me at 8000+ for six months. Seriously? I do live in Detroit, so I am accustomed to higher rates but this is crazy. I have never made an insurance claim. I had one minor traffic ticket 3 years ago(no turn on red). I have had continuous coverage from my current provider for 4 years. What could the problem be. Is it possible to get the insurance companies I quoted with to give me information on why they quoted me at the rates they did. This has been incredibly disheartening. I guess I will stick with my current provider for about 1800 every 6 months.""

Teenager car insurance help?
Okay! I am a 17 year old male who has been driving in total for 2 years and I have unfortunately had 2 accidents. The first occurred in May of last year. I pulled out of a gas station trying to turn left so I had to cross two lanes of oncoming traffic ( I was in an unfamiliar vehicle) I could not see the lane closest to the middle and I went out further then I thought and the oncoming car took off the front bumper. The second accident occurred 04/14 I was driving to school and there was a man ahead of me who had his signal light on for the past 4 miles it was pouring down rain so I looked over to change lanes and when maybe I looked for to long I'm not sure but wheeI turned back the man had come to a complete stop in preparation to turn from a highway onto a dirt road. I slammed on my brakes they locked up I couldn't steer away and I hit him in the rear. My question is. Is this going to keep happening to me? Am I really that bad of a driver? and what insurance company is best for my situation as my parents are removing me from their policy. Any help would be appreciated!

""When starting new car insurance, can insurers decline no claims bonus due to 2 motorway speeding convictions?""
Hello, I am trying to arrange vehicle insurance. I have contacted A&L with regards to their car insurance. Basically I have just changed jobs, where I had company cars for the last 6 years with no claims. I asked A&L if they would accept this as no claims, and they said they would if I could provide a letter from my previous employers stating dates, that I was sole user, that I no longer have policy and that it expires within last 3 months etc. I have provided them with the letter which covers all areas requested. They have now replied back to me saying that they can't accept the no claims, as I have 2 SP30 (Motorway speeding) convictions within the last 5 years, which means they will not accept the no claims. Is this acceptable? I though no claims were only relinquished if a claim in made against a policy, not because I have a couple of run-of-the-mill speeding convictions. Thanks in advance, James""

What is the least amount of car insurance I need to have on a car that doesn't have a loan on it?
I live in Wisconsin and havent had insurance in about four years. I am getting married in six months and my fiance's insurance agent said that I should get insurance now, six months before the wedding, so that once we get married and I get added onto his insurance, I won't raise his insurance since I am considered high risk since I havent had insurance the last six months or more. So, if I get insurance on my won for six months, it will be high risk for those six months, but then six montsh from now, I won't be high risk, which will be good becasue six months from now is when i would get married and added onto his insurance. Now, I am going to get insurance on a car that doesn't have a loan on it, and I am wondering how much insurance I need? What is the least amount of insurance I could get on my car, so that in six months I won't be high risk anymore? P.S. Can a health insurance company decline your request to cancel?
Here's the situation: I've had health insurance for the past few years through Nationwide, which is/was provided by my employer. The cost is taken out of my check every week. I received a letter from my employer last December stating that I did not have to change anything in regards to the Affordable Health Care Act. Two months later, I received a letter from my insurance company saying that I have inadequate coverage and need to visit healthcare.gov to find different coverage. I found new coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield through healthcare.gov (I was planning on going BCBS anyway). I asked the woman who I spoke with when I should cancel my previous insurance benefits. She replied Wait a couple of weeks until you get all of your new information from BCBS . Here's where the issue comes in. When I contacted Nationwide (my previous insurance company) to cancel they said I had to fill out and send back a form. Basically, the form asked why I was cancelling. Go figure there was no option for them not having the correct benefits. Anyway, I sent that back and proof of my new policy (they wanted the effective date) Nationwide DENIED my request to cancel stating that I only had 30 days from the time my new coverage began to inform them. Even though their coverage doesn't meet the AHCA requirements, I cannot cancel until my company's open enrollment (December) Can they legally decline my cancellation request?""

What are some tips to get cheaper car insurance?
I have a very poor driving record. Right now, I'm paying about $4,000 a year to insure my car. It will probably go up when the policy renews in Sept. What can I do in the meantime? Should I take the defensive driving course? What else? I've tried to shop around but GEICO gives me the best deal at $4000. Some other companies would not insure me at all. Should I get Term Life Insurance at a young age?

After reading about different life insurance options, I am deciding to go with Term Life Insurance for 20 years. My employer offers a very small life insurance benefit that I am already a part of but I want more just in case. The Car insurance company gave me a low estimate on repairs?
Long story short. Not my fault. I can not take this up with my insurance company because I don't have one. We got his info. My car has 140K miles on it. It's worth about 2K. It wouldn't be worth it to fix it. I decided to get the estimate and put the cash to another car. I have not signed anything yet. Insurance Company Quoted $1013.76 Auto Body Shop $1162.04 Ford Dealership $1284.90 271.14 difference. I asked to split the difference between the auto body shop and the Ford dealership. The Insurance compnay ofcourse said no. What should I do? If I had gone to an auto body repair shop of my choice with 1013.76 in hand they would have called the insurance compnay and asked for them to kick down more money. So I think it's fair that I get more cash. Don't even get me started on the medical. My health insurance is getting billed. Not the insurance company.

I will be moving to NB this summer (from BC), and was wondering how the insurance rates out there are determined. Here in BC there are a number of insurance brackets (based on displacement) which determine the base rate. All bikes in any one bracket pay the same, so a 600cc sportbike is cheaper than a 883 Sportster (these are only for liability, theft and collision are based more on $$ value). In general, is it the same in NB? Would I save money by going to a smaller bike (I currently ride a 1127cc Suzuki GSX1100G), assuming the actual $$ value of the bike was about the same? Does the type of bike matter? I'd ask an insurance agent, but they are usually pretty reticent to explain how their rates are determined. Hope you can help.""

If you can't afford health insurance for your family and the government says you make too much...?
then what do you suggest? What if your family has too much income according to the government for your kids to even qualify for Medicaid or the low cost options (CHIP)? My husband makes $48,000 a year before taxes are taken out. While that does pay the bills and keep food on the table, we can't do a $800 monthly insurance policy and our kids are denied Medicaid and CHIP (we make $300 too much per month, of all things). We pay the necessities. We don't over spend and we don't go out and spend money on entertainment more than a few times yearly and even then it's cheap entertainment. We do what we can, but health insurance just isn't going to happen for us unless one of two things happens: 1- my husband gets a major pay raise or 2- the government changes their income requirements (don't see that happening). So what do you suggest for my family? We do what we can. We use our tax returns each year for medical expenses and bill pay offs. If a major medical expense comes up, we pay it down little by little. We do use the public health department when we can. But bottom line is that we can't afford insurance. Period. So, for all of you who think this is completely unacceptable, what do you suggest we do?""

Are Republicans Or Democrats More Educated
Where Do We Go From Here Democrats Benchmarks And The Way Forward
Men 56 3
Figures are based on average approval ratings in polls conducted from Jan. 20-March 31 in the year of the president’s inauguration. Gallup
What The Exit Polls Are Telling Us
Editors Note: Jennifer Lawless and Paul Freedman wrote this piece as part of the University of Virginia Democracy Initiatives effort to provide context around the 2020 presidential election. Scholars from across the University are providing real-time analysis on this page tracking the 2020 election and its aftermath. This post was published in two parts on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday morning, former Vice President Joe Biden was projected to win the election, becoming president-elect. Lawless is the Commonwealth Professor of Politics and chair of the Woodrow Wilson Department of Politics, as well as a senior fellow at UVAs Miller Center. Freedman is an associate professor of politics and teaches courses in media, campaigns and elections, research methods, and the politics of food.
In the immediate aftermath of a national election, exit polls offer the best glimpse of what the electorate looked like who voted for whom and what seemed to drive their choices.
Us Senators And House Members Are Smarter Than You Think
Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of Congress; but I repeat myself. Mark Twain
“Congress’s Average I.Q. Expected to Rise in 2015” The Borowitz Report

Reprinted with permission from
There are several key attributes that define the Republican Party in its modern incarnation: its overwhelming whiteness; its self-reported religiosity; its slavish devotion to a man who boasts he could shoot someone and not lose a single vote, thus proving his point.

Opinion Columnist

Democrats 28 50
Figures are based on average approval ratings in polls conducted from Jan. 20-March 31 in the year of the president’s inauguration. Gallup
Independents’ 55% approval of Biden during his inaugural period is similar to their ratings of Clinton and Bush, slightly lower than for Obama , but well above the group’s rating of Trump .

Reprinted with permission from
There are several key attributes that define the Republican Party in its modern incarnation: its overwhelming whiteness; its self-reported religiosity; its slavish devotion to a man who boasts he could shoot someone and not lose a single vote, thus proving his point.
