I almost wish my game was as buggy as yours sounds. It sounds hilarious and game enriching. Mine doesn't like to glitch up but that probably because I played on PS4 and 5. Right after original launch of plain Subnautica, I got to the lava castle but the containment area wouldn't load so I had to start a new save. Hours down the drain.

ok, so I think that what makes Dream act this way (iykyk) is how dreamwastaken became so big so quickly. and by quick I mean fucking lightning speed.

he didn't have enough time to learn enough about cc etiquette, especially in these three aspects: influence, boundaries and fanbase/stans/whatever you call it. I'll try to explain it:

• Influence: Does he know the influence he has? Like, when he hears that he is the myct with the largest fanbase, does he really process that? I remember he talked about not being able to control all of his fanbase and there's bad apples everywhere -- which is true, and that only like 1% of his fanbase breaks his boundaries (that include sending hate for him, harassing, doxing, etc. yk, basic twitter culture lol) but, honey, with your big ass fanbase, 1% is still a lot of people. As a content creator you *have* to be aware of that.

let's take the hbomb situation. First off, as a streamer, it's you that set the mood of the stream. Even if he was only messing around with his pals, even if they did say to do not send hate to hbomb, dt dunking on him created a toxic environment, which caused his fans being toxic towards hbomb and you know what happens next. Hell, when this happened, I was watching Tapl and he was watching them and he was crying laughing over them screaming bc they were just. so loud and so aggressive that it was kinda ??? Sirs, this is literally a Minecraft Stream lmaooo

my point is, that was not the road that dreamwastaken, 21M fans, should've taken. he don't condone his fans actions but he knows his fans are diehard and will always be on his side, he should be more careful before stating negative opinions, especially if its towards another person.

• Boundaries and Fanbase: He posted a list of his boundaries a while ago, idk if you know or seen it (btw please george copy your bestie for the love of god <3) but I'm not talking about those boundaries, I'm talking about the basic boundaries between cc and viewer. boundaries that, in my opinion, should exist between cc and viewer. I get that Dream is an open person, an oversharing type of open person if I may add, but I think he should take a step back regardless. Aight, there's a lot to unpack here, so Imma try to only go into the points I have something to add to (here's what I talk about in each paragraph, if you want to jump to a specific point):

The “just a dude” argument, flipped

First, I agree that one of the many factors that has resulted in the current image Dream has set up for himself, the way his fanbase functions, the ways people hate on him, and the way the Dream brand functions, is the speed of his rise to fame. It's unique, and there are probably a hundred social/psychological angles that could be used to examine the exact effects of that speed upon all of these facets of the Dream Name; did rapid fame beget the rapid rise of unrighteous hatred, did those waves of hatred then instigate the rise of a surprisingly overdefensive fanbase, did that rapid fame get to his head and/or result in an inability to appropriately handle all the after-effects of rapid fame, etc.? That point you bring up, about how the speed of his rise to fame requires him to learn even more quickly, is so interesting to me. I think that maybe Dream expected to get pretty famous pretty quickly, hence the preparedness in regards to some mechanics of influencer fame- merchandise, business-building, networking, knowing how to manage his fanbase to best benefit him. But I don't think he expected to get this famous this quickly. This is all speculation of course, as are this entire post and your ask, but I think that he just couldn't anticipate having to learn how to handle enmasse controversy, waves of antis, or every Youtuber speculating/knowing about him; and yeah, that results in him having to learn all of these things very quickly, lest he allow his whole brand and fandom to fall apart.

Second, I disagree with the frequent argument that Dream's fanbase is only marginally toxic. Personally, I think that the circumstances of Dream's fame, his personality and management of his fanbase, and his brand of content have resulted in the very specific kind of stan that Dream stans are. I don't think this is simply a case of "all fandoms have a small percentage of assholes who take it too far;" rather, the nature of the community itself breeds the kind of mentality of "an asshole who takes it too far." I only even know this because I was a Dream fan (kinda a stan, I'm ngl). At one time, I watched every single Dreamwastaken & Dream Team video multiple times; I listened to the Manhunts on repeat, as though they were podcasts; I followed mostly smiletwt and dttwt accounts on mcyttwt; I had upwards of 10 tabs for AO3 DNF fics open on my phone at a time; I watched DNF and Dream Team Being A Family-esque compilations on repeat; I watched every George and Sapnap alt stream I possibly could; I went out of my way to defend Dream against Redditors and Twitter antis regarding the cheating scandal. For the latter half of 2020, and a couple months of 2021, I lived and breathed this part of the fandom; so when I say that Dream stans are a whole other breed than any other kind of mcyttwt stan, I say that because I used to be like that, too. I usually use parasocial very loosely or ironically, but Dream stans are genuinely one of the most parasocial fanbases I have ever seen or been a part of. The level of investment Dream stans have in this man's life, the lengths they will go to to defend him, the amount of psychonalysis and digging they do on his life and character, the amount of emotion he can evoke in them- it's taken to another level, man. This isn't just characteristic of a fraction of his fanbase; this is what the fanbase is like as a whole.

Third, I partially disagree with your take on the HBomb thing, but not in the way one might think? I actually empathize with the way they reacted much more than I thought I would, simply because I suspect I have RSD (also suspect I have ADHD, have for several months now) and I can see myself getting insanely frustrated because of something like that. Like yeah, it was "just a MC stream" or "just an MC game," but that's kinda disregarding the fact that something that might seem like "just a [insert inconsequential thing]" to a rational mind might have a major emotional consequence/take a major emotional toll on someone with RSD, or really anyone who gets easily impatient/angry about video games (Sapnap reminds me of many of my friends, in that way). The issues I, personally, had with the way they handled the HBomb situation is that these are simply explanations and reasons for my empathy; they are not excuses. I have no excuse when I get irrationally angry about something inconsequential in my own life, for a couple of reasons. One, because I am an adult and I need to learn how to handle my reactions and manage my own anger. Two, because as someone with many mental problems, it is my responsibility to learn coping mechanisms to ensure my own emotional stability and livelihood; this includes learning whatever I need to handle RSD- whether that be isolating myself from others when I know I will become violently/passionately angry about something, creating and sustaining a support system that can get me through bouts of extreme emotion, finding healthy emotional outlets for my negative emotions that won't harm myself or others, or a combination thereof. I don't think what they said about HBomb post-MCC was an irreversibly horrible thing, or anything. I think there were errors committed by two men who should be fully capable of foreseeing and preventing those errors, but I don't unconditionally hate Dream or Sapnap for the post-MCC stream or comments. I just wish they had made amends quickly, publicly, and sufficiently, because the greatest consequences from the whole thing weren't even from those two criticizing HBomb themselves; they were from the waves of backlash because of their immense influence on the MCYT fandom, which could've been prevented, if they had acted maturedly and responsibly after the stream.

Fourth, you’re right, that he doesn’t seem to condone his fans’ behavior. I detest the frequent anti argument that one of the reasons Dream should be criticized is because he explicitly uses his fanbase to attack others, or something of the sort. Personally, I think he created his fanbase in a very specific way and interacts with them in such a way so as to benefit him as much as possible, yes, but he never actually tells his fanbase to go and yell at or harrass anyone. Still, there is a significant difference between not condoning something and condemning something. It might seem unfair, and it might be annoying of me to say this, but I truly think that someone with this large a fanbase, especially one as overzealous as Dream’s, needs to be condemned every single time it goes on some kind of rampage/harrassment campaign. Either that, or Dream needs to make a definitive, permanent statement against any kind of harrassment of others on his behalf. I know he’ll occassionally make the odd tweet or serious stream addressing something his fanbase did, but one of the many reasons his fanbase keeps doing the same damn thing is because he’s so lukewarm and spotty about this condemnation. A fanbase like his needs to be given explicit guidance and boundaries for the numerous things they do in his defense- harrassing/doxing antis, harrassing people who criticize him who aren’t antis (respectful criticism, other CCs, other MCYT stans, etc.), harrassing the people he critcizes (i.e., HBomb), speculating about his personal life (his relationship with his gf, his mental health/ADHD, his romantic life, his childhood, etc.), and speculating about his relationships with his friends and colleagues.  My personal ideology is that, if you have significant influence over someone or a group of people, you are at least somewhat responsible for the things those people do or don’t do, if it at all relates back to you. I’m so fucking tired of the argument that CCs aren’t responsible for what their fans do. Obviously they aren’t responsible for every single one of their fans, and obviously they can’t fully control their fans at the end of the day. But I think there are certain things that reach such a level of extremity that does make those CCs responsible. This can be measured by either scale or intensity; that is to say, if a CC’s fanbase does things on an extremely large scale, or one person from/a fraction of the fanbase does something really extreme, then the CC is made all the more responsible. Another CC I’ve always had trouble discussing with other people on this subject is Pewdiepie, in particular, about the extremists in his fanbase. Because the things a small handful of his fans have done in reference to him and/or in his name were so fucking extreme, I thought Pewdiepie had to take at least some responsibilty. Along a similar vein, because the things Dream’s general fanbase does are so widespread and on such a massive scale, Dream has to take at least some responsibility.

Fifth, okay. Hmmm. I want to tackle this point you made about the ableism he faces in some criticism of him carefully and with empathy, but not coddling. One, I do think a lot of the criticism he receives for the ways he handles criticism (post-cheating Tweets, reactions to John Swan, post-MCC HBomb stream, etc.), disregard his RSD and can be oftentimes ableist. I’ve actually encountered people irl who criticize this aspect of Dream’s character, and have had to explain to them their disregard for how ADHD/RSD affect neurodivergent people’s reactions to criticism. But - and this is a big, and very controversial but - I think mentally ill/disordered people can 100% leverage their mental illness/disorders for the sake of manipulation. This is actually something I’ve learned from a psychiatrist, regarding the ways people I know and I handle our anxiety and depression. This manipulation can be unwitting or intentional, but it is entirely possible, and the possibility shouldn’t be entirely dismissed as ableist. Living with a mental illness or disorder that others know about/that you are very public about puts you in an interesting position to receive frequent sympathy, empathy, and/or pity. I’m not saying that empathy for Dream having ADHD/RSD is entirely unjustified; on the contrary, I have frequently expressed how I can relate to his ADHD symptoms and have defended him for expressing those symptoms, both on mcytblr and in real life. I am saying that Dream fans tend to use his ADHD as a kind of shield for a lot of criticism levied against him, including the supposition that he could be manipulating his fanbase to defend him because of his public expressions of RSD. So yes, my theory is that Dream knows how to levy every aspect of his life for his personal gain and for the growth of his brand, and that includes his ADHD. I think he has courage for his openess about his ADHD, I think his openness has contributed to the rise in awareness of mental health and empathy for neurodivergent people within Gen Z, and I think at least some of his expressions of RSD publicly/online weren’t intentionally made public. All that being said, I also think he has to know just how much his fanbase cares about defending him for his ADHD, and I think he has to know that some of the things he does related to his neurodivergence endear him to his audience, in a coddling, baby-ing, mildly ableist sorta way.  Maybe this is all incredibly presumptuous of me. Of course, I can never know the real intentions behind any Dream video, Tweet, or stream. Maybe I’m just projecting, because I can see myself doing just this, if I had the maturity I had circa 2018-2019. Idfk know, man.

Sixth, I actually agree with you here, people probably do get more mad at his fanbase than him. Dream puts out content pretty seldomly, considering the frequency of content output for other Youtubers/streamers in his field/at his brand size. And yet, he has received masses of criticism. Considering that the things Dream himself does/says do not entirely correlate with the amount of criticism he receives, I think it’s a logical assumption that a lot of that criticism actually goes back to the size of his presence online, rather than the man himself. That is to say, because of the massive community he’s amassed, the exponential growth of his fanbase, their presence on every single social media site and in virtually every single Internet space/fandom, and the size of his metaphysical presence in his fields, Dream is much bigger than the man himself, so the criticism he receives will, at least in part, be a direct or indirect result of all these other aspects of the Dream brand.  Something I don’t think many Dream fans/stans, or even most MCYT fans in general, understand, is that Dream isn’t just “one guy” in the eyes of the Internet- at least, not anymore. He hasn’t been for nearly a year. Like Pewdiepie, Mr. Beast, and other CCs who have amassed similar levels of fame and wealth via Internet content creation, Dream is a brand now, and most people will treat him as such. He isn’t just some uwu soft boy playing Minecraft anymore. He is on a whole other level from any other MCYT in his friend circle or colleague interaction bubble. His words will never again live in a vaccum or private bubble, his friend circle will never again be under anything less than intense scrutiny, his past actions will never again be simple mistakes or silly errors, his words will never again be casual tweets or streams for laughs among a couple thousand followers. Dream’s name represents something much bigger than just the one man. As such, all aspects of his brand, including his fanbase, will tie back to him and, ultimately, to any general criticism of him.

I’m not saying I like any of this, and I actually think the evolution of influencers from people to a marketable brand with similar mechanisms, responsibilities, and liabilities as a corporation is some kind of late capitalism nightmare fuel; I’m just stating my own observations and theories as to why so much anti-Dream criticism seems to be directed at his fanbase, rather than him.

Seventh, he’s just a guy, you’re right, but I think a lot of the antis on Tumblr understand this more than you know. As I’ve seen it, the sentiment among much of the “DSMP stans DNI” crowd seems to be that of “Dream/other MCYTs are such ‘bad’ people, so why do their fans stick to these mediocre, racist men, when there are so many better people to watch/better content to consume?” We know this argument is flawed for many of the obvious reasons - the conflation of all MCYTs’ actions regardless of individual identity, the equating of a CC’s fanbase’s morality to that of the CC they enjoy watching, the exxageration of any error MCYT CCs have committed as bigotry/racism, the fundamental misunderstanding and misinformation that led antis to believe this exxageration of the facts, etc. But I want to focus on the general, underlying sentiment of, “why not watch someone better, when your creator is problematic?” Sometimes, I ask this of Dream stans. Yes, being mildly ignorant, getting involved in the scandals Dream has, and being a right-leaning/libertarian centrist in the recent past all seem like harmless things, all things considered. One could say Dream isn’t nearly as bad as many antis who are misinformed seem to believe, and that there are much worse CCs Dream stans could be watching and creating fan content for. But I think what Tumblr antis wonder is, aren’t there also much better MCYTs/CCs people could be watching and stanning? Because he’s just some guy, right? Is his content truly so exceptional or is he really so exceptional a person, that people have to stick by him, despite the things that spike up regarding his current or past actions? I think that’s what made me finally decide to stop watching Dream. I realized he was just Some Guy. The Dream Team was a comforting dynamic to indulge in, DNF was a cute ship to read and speculate about, and Manhunts were fun videos to watch; however, once the Reddit posts came out and I read them in-depth, the cost-benefit analysis tipped over to the “not worth it” side for me. I realized Dream’s content, while fun and comforting, was not entirely unique, and wasn’t worth sticking around for, given what I then knew about his past political leanings. If he is just Some Guy, then there are a hundred more like him out there. There a hundred more ships, a hundred more found family dynamics, a hundred more entertaining and skilled Minecraft players. So while I agree with you on the point of people being allowed to love him regardless because he is just a guy, at the end of the day, I think that, if we are to believe that sentiment or use that argument in such a manner, we should also understand the flip side- that, if he is just some guy, why is it worth sticking around? To that I say, maybe because people just enjoy the simple things they enjoy.

anyway the song “eight” by sleeping at last made me mentally ill so let’s get into why <3

with that let’s begin.

“I remember the minute;/it was like a switch was flipped --/i was just a kid who grew up strong enough/to pick this armor up,/and suddenly it fit” Lengthy first line to start this on i know but cutting it up didn’t make sense so please forgive me… Alright let’s get to the meat of this hm? This line is about when jotaro first manifested star platinum. “I remember the minute, it was like a switch was flipped” fits perfectly with how suddenly and obviously star platinum became known to its user, as jotaro first manifests it when he’s in the middle of a fight, a fight star platinum ends very quickly and brutally. The “i was just a kid who grew up strong enough to pick this armor up” is about jotaro having the willpower to control a stand such as star platinum and not get ill over it. He “grew up strong enough to pick this armor up”, this armor being star platinum (which, yes, star platinum is armor more than a weapon because its strength is used to protect. This is stated explicitly in the jin hashimoto song “star platinum” which was written specifically with jotaro/star platinum in mind, as the title suggests). It also shows how young jotaro was re the “kid” description; he was only 17, the youngest jojo up to that point. the “and suddenly it fit” also mixes with how suddenly star platinum manifested, particularly how jotaro gained passable control over it very quickly

“God, that was so long ago, long ago, long ago…/I was little, I was weak, I was perfectly naive,/and I grew up too quick.” Another long line im sorry it just doesnt make sense to cut it up 😭 Anyway this is part 6 jotaro reflecting on his past self, PARTICULARLY part 3 jotaro, which explains the “god, that was so long ago, long ago, long ago…” segment “I was little, i was weak, i was perfectly naive” is kinda gold coming from part 6 jotaro cause end of part 3 jotaro is canonically when he’s at his strongest but i dont think part 6 jotaro is talking about star platinum in this line. He’s talking about jotaro being tactless and rude and pushing away his loved aways in a disillusioned attempt to keep them safe. By part 6, jotaro has to have known his coping mechanism of self-imposed isolation wasnt fair to his loved ones/himself and it clearly didnt WORK as evidenced by jolyne’s situation, so he’s cursing his younger self for it here. Hence, the calling of part 3 jotaro “little, weak, perfectly naive.” part 3 jotaro starts making the bed that part 6 jotaro ends up having to lay in and he hates him for it. The “and I grew up too quick” part is jotaro acknowledging his trauma. Even before part 3 started jotaro clearly had issues and they just kept building and building and building from part 3 and on. Combined with his self-imposed isolation, jotaro had to grow up quick to survive, and this line is part 6 jotaro reflecting on that

“Now you won’t see all that i have to lose,/all i’ve lost in the fight to protect it.” Remember the self-imposed isolation i mentioned in the last line? This line is about why jotaro does that. He hates being vulnerable. He hates relying on others. We only see him comfortable trusting others to take care of things ONCE the entire series, during the steely dan arc, when he believes in kakyoin’s abilities to keep joseph safe and get the lovers out of him safely. ONCE out of the four parts he’s featured in, out of the three he’s prominent in. jotaro does this, as i previously mentioned, out of a disillusioned attempt to keep those he loves safe, hence the “now you won’t see all that i have to lose” line. This behavior is solidified in jotaro at the end of stardust crusaders, when the two final times he tried to trust that others would handle it resulted in the deaths of over of half those he cared the most about (he may have gotten joseph back, but don’t forget that joseph did actually die). Thus, this decisive night ties into the “all i’ve lost in the fight to protect it” line. He’s lost loved ones but he won’t lose them again, not in the same way at least. Ironically, the self-imposed isolation only puts his loved ones and himself in danger, but i can get into that later.

“I won’t let you in, i swore never again --/i can’t afford, no, i refuse to be rejected” This line kinda ties back with what i was mentioning in the last line, but it hones it a bit more on jotaro’s complete denial of being vulnerable rather than how he acts to ensure he isnt such. “I wont let you in, i swore never again” is a direct tie-in for how jotaro feels after stardust crusaders; he is never going to get as close to anyone or anything the way he was close to the crusaders ever again. Nothing is ever going to matter to him the same way and he is going to make sure of that, as the “swore never again” implies, because he is certain, at least at first, that this will keep others safe. The “i can’t afford, no, i refuse to be rejected” part goes into how selfish and arrogant jotaro’s mentality is. Don’t get me wrong, jotaro’s self-imposed isolation can be seen as selfless, especially because the main driving force behind it is to keep others safe -- but it’s not the only force driving it. Like i said, jotaro doesn’t want to be vulnerable, and to be sure he doesnt feel that way, he needs to ensure he won’t be hurt. Can’t be sad when people die if you were never close to them, right? So as much as it is to protect others, he also is protecting himself by closing off from others. It’s also arrogant of jotaro to assume he is the deciding factor of who lives and dies, that he gets to choose/manipulate the cycle of life and death by deciding on if he opens up to others. Jotaro had this mentality of being a “deciding factor” shoved into his head during the journey to egypt, and that kinda warps his worldview as a result; everything must be his fault. Things go bad surely because he let them somehow. And it’s not jotaro’s fault he’s ill in the head like this but it is still arrogant, and the “i can’t afford, no, i refuse to be rejected” line attests to this.

“I want to break these bones until theyre better/i want to break them right and feel alive” Oh jotaro you have the shittiest fuckign coping mechanisms Alright. “I want to break these bones until theyre better” ties into jotaro throwing himself into dangerous situations alone. He’s just so so damn convinced he can handle everything himself -- bc again, he is led to believe he is the deciding factor of life and death -- he just has to try. If things go wrong, it’s bc he didn’t try hard enough, hence the “break these bones until theyre better”; jotaro will hurt himself and will be convinced he deserved it until he “learns” how to be perfect like he’s “supposed” to be. But being perfect isnt something you can learn, you mentally ill motherfucker jotaro. anyway “I want to break them right and feel alive” ties into the fact jotaro would rather break his body over and over and over rather than tell his loved ones he cares. The only right way to be hurt to him is taking a hit that was meant for those he loves. Jotaro is very much a man of action rather than a man of word, and this line is about his rather unique way of acting (that is, getting beat the fuck up over and over) Basically jotaro can’t tell the people he loves that he, well, loves them, unless he is literally dying. Examples of what i mean: jotaro preferred going on a perilous, 50-day journey to just telling holly he loved her; jotaro preferred getting beat over the head with a rock in the lovers arc rather than risk hurting joseph; jotaro preferred to literally get blown up by sheer heart attack rather than tell koichi to his face he is a good kid; jotaro stepped knowingly into a trap for jolyne and had to literally believe he was in fact saying his last words before he uttered “i’ve always cherished you.”

“You were wrong, you were wrong, you were wrong --/my healing needed more than time” Oh my GODDDddDDDdcdd im sobbing as i type jotaro your head is so so damn ill Okay so i see him spitting this line towards joseph. Let me explain Joseph would no doubt pick up on jotaro’s ptsd and he’ll do his best to console jotaro over the deaths of their friends. But see joseph is ALSO an ill in the head idiot whose idea of therapy is electroshock and who calls ptsd “shell shock”. So all he can offer to jotaro is “youll feel better in time” because that was kinda true for him; he managed to move on in time. What joseph fails to realize is what made him feel better was not time, but the support of those remaining in his life (lisa lisa, suziq, erina, smokey). But jotaro listens and tries to give it time but the thing with jotaro is he just gets worse and worse as time wears on because he deliberately cut himself off from anyone who could console him (as well as got continually traumatized throughout his life), so time never helped but actually made things worse. Thus jotaro spitting “you were wrong, you were wrong, you were wrong, my healing needed more than time”. In terms of timeline, probably happens right after part 5 jotaro stares longingly at the crusaders picture

“When i see fragile things, helpless things, broken things/i see the familiar” Im sorry every new line i start to analyze i begin crying so im just letting you all know incase the coherency takes a dip (as if this was coherent in the first place lmfao) Anyway so this line in relation to Jotaro is about how he projects HARD on the new generation. We see this w his interactions w josuke and koichi, the “fragile things” (there is no way he didnt see koichi as a filler for kakyoin im sorry. Also he just wants josuke safe with his friends like how he wished he was safe with his own friends as a teenager), how he was wary of giorno, “the helpless things” (jotaro is scared he’ll be similar to his dad, just like jotaro is similar enough to dio to share the same stand power…), and his interactions w jolyne, “the broken things” (angry teen in a prison? Come now). 

“I was little, i was weak, i was perfect too/now i’m a broken mirror” Throwback to the second line. Once again part 6 jotaro is reflecting but the difference here is that part 3 was when jotaro was last unashamedly happy, but more than that, part 3 jotaro was on his way to healing before everything went to shit. like i mentioned earlier, jotaro only relies on someone else completely once, and that happens in part 3. Jotaro is finally able to trust in someone else’s capabilities, which is what he needed to do before he could allow anyone to help him with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Hence, why part 6 jotaro would describe him as “perfect”; because he would’ve been perfect enough if he could just trust in others like that again But as the line suggests, that went wrong. Jotaro is now a “broken mirror,” which alludes to the fact that while he projects onto the kids, the kids (the ones that know him at least) project onto him as well, especially jolyne, because in part 6 she finally figures out her dad’s thought processes, as she is experiencing those patterns of thinking too. Jotaro is a role model for them in the sense of “see him? Do the opposite of what he did” KJ;DNJ;DN;SN

“But i can’t let you see all that i have to lose/all that i’ve lost in the fight to protect it” Same meaning as before mostly but the repetition is important me thinks because it mimics jotaro like frantically trying to remind himself why he must be distant when all he wanted to do was go home to jolyne and be her father

“I can’t let you in --/ i swore never again,/ i can’t afford to let myself be blindsided” This means roughly the same thing as the previous line that’s similar to this, but the “i can’t afford to let myself be blindsided” is less about jotaro’s selfishness/arrogance and more about how he believes enemies will use his loved ones against him and how goddamn, it would work, it would work so well because jotaro loves so, so damn much It’s a shame distancing himself didn’t work the way he wanted it to and ended up making his loved ones even more vulnerable than they would have been otherwise

“I’m standing guard,/i’m falling apart/and all i want to do is to trust you” (Begins screaming and doesn’t stop) okay so this line is about jotaro and jolyne during the beginning of stone ocean “Im standing guard” alludes to the fact that jotaro is still desperately trying to appear distant and uninterested even as he attempts to break his fucking daughter out of prison “I’m falling apart” ties into jotaro failing miserably at remaining cold towards jolyne, how he eventually caves in and tells her he loves her in addition to taking a literal bullet for her, using time stop to ensure he can make it to her to do so. and also this line ties into how he is literally physically shot and how his memories and stand are taken from him “And all i want to do is to trust you” is directed towards jolyne of course. God his whole “i’ve always cherished you” ties in with this line; like i mentioned earlier, jotaro by part 6 knows his self-imposed isolation is useless, but old habits die hard and also he was in very deep by the time he accepted there was no reason to go in the first place at all. So he doesn’t know how to change, he doesn’t know how to trust jolyne, it’d been 20ish years since he last trusted someone completely, but god he wants to. He wants to trust her. It’s all he wants to do hence this line

“Show me how to lay my sword down/for long enough to let you through” So continuing from the last line, jotaro just wants to let jolyne in. he wants to learn how to do that. I think this line is actually directed towards his younger self; 17 year old jotaro managed to let in a person once, after all (more than one person in fact, but all the crusaders). This would also make more sense w my interpretation of how part 6 jotaro calls part 3 jotaro “perfect” in this regard Essentially it’s jotaro thumbing through his memories to figure out how his past self gathered the security to trust in someone else wholeheartedly...which makes the fact that pucci steals his memories particularly fucked up in this context

“Here i am, pry me open/what do you want to know?” Another line directed toward jolyne. “Here i am, pry me open” refers to how after jotaro tells jolyne he cherishes her, all cards are on the table. He’s shown vulnerability, might as well go full throttle. So, he’s willing to talk to jolyne for the first time ever, especially because she’s a stand user now “What do you want to know?” ties into jotaro being willing to open up, but also the fact that jolyne doesnt really know her dad ):

“I’m just a kid who grew up scared enough/to hold the door shut/and bury my innocence” Hhnghg begins wailing this line is again about post-egypt jotaro. A lot of jotaro’s like...emotional maturation (and even some physical) occurred during the trip to egypt and immediately afterward. he’s in pain and desperately trying to rationalize a way he can be in control of never letting something like what happened in egypt happen again, hence the “im just a kid who grew up scared enough” “To hold the door shut” refers to how jotaro cut off other people, even the people who used to know him very well, like joseph and polnareff and holly “And bury my innocence” i mentioned this in another line but this bit also refers to how jotaro had to grow up quickly to survive, considering his self-imposed isolation and his life path of chasing down dio’s remnants

“But here’s a map, here’s a shovel/here’s my Achilles’ heel” This line is SUPPOSED to be directed toward jolyne but inadvertently it is also directed toward pucci. When jotaro says fuck it and gives up on his pretense of disinterest in jolyne, finally letting her know he loves her, he’s finally building the frame of a bridge to jolyne; he’s ready to do what he’s wanted to for so long, no matter how vulnerable it makes him, and that is to be jolyne’s father. However, pucci takes note of this; he knows to aim for jolyne in the final battle because of jotaro’s earlier actions when he tries breaking jolyne out of prison. It really is a shame how the narrative keeps fucking enforcing jotaro’s shitty self-imposed isolation

“I’m all in, palms out, i’m at your mercy now and i’m ready to begin/i am strong, i am strong, i am strong enough to let you in” Hmm i imagine this line being when jotaro meets back up with jolyne after he gets his memory disk back. The first thing he does is hug her and cradle her close to him, showing off to the world, right in front of pucci, how much his daughter means to him. But jotaro, at least for the moment, is not scared to be vulnerable anymore. Ever since he decided to give up his cold facade, he was ready to let jolyne in, and he finally has the chance to do that at least a little right before the final battle, which is what this line is about

“I’ll shake the ground with all my might/i will pull my whole heart up to the surface” Final battle in stone ocean,,, What the “i’ll shake the ground will all my might” line refers to is jotaro’s willingness to use star platinum the world during the battle. He’s ready to go all in to save the world, and most importantly, save jolyne, even if he has to use the source of his greatest trauma to do it. Jotaro’s a key player and he knows it, has known it for a long time, and this time he’s going to use that for his happy ending. And well, as i mentioned in the last line, jotaro’s done with the self-isolation and throws himself into the role of jolyne’s father, at least as much as he has the right to throw himself into. This is mostly what the “i will pull my whole heart up to the surface” line refers to

“For the innocent, for the vulnerable/i’ll show up to the frontlines with a purpose” More stone ocean final battle. The “innocent and vulnerable” jotaro is showing up for are jolyne, namely, but also hermes and emporio, and beyond that, the world. Jotaro understands how serious this is and he’s always been a force meant for protection, so he is here to do just that, which is what the “i’ll show up to the frontlines with a purpose” line refers to. Jotaro doesnt believe he’s a good person -- and he might not be, in the grand scheme of things -- but he does fight for what he believes is right, he always has, he mentions this way back in stardust crusaders during his fight with kakyoin. He’s never going to let injustice stand, especially not when he knows he’s such a key player

“And i’ll give all i have, i’ll give my blood, give my sweat --/an ocean of tears will spill for what is broken” This line actually applies to all the “final battles” jotaro has been involved in; part 3, part 4, and part 6. Jotaro, as i mentioned in the last line, has a strong sense of justice and is a force that first and foremost tries to protect, which the “i’ll give all i have, i’’l give my blood, give my sweat” part of this line refers to. Jotaro gives his all, has given his all, to rid the world of dio’s influence, he ruined his entire fucking life to do so, and this line gives credence to that. “An ocean of tears will spill for what is broken” refers to jotaro mourning all the what-ifs in his life, which are all tied with how the outcomes of these final battles go. If part 3 didnt end the way it did, jotaro would know how to trust still, he wouldve been happy even, maybe he wouldnt have had to sacrifice the rest of his life to dio; if part 4 didn’t end the way it did, maybe jotaro couldve gone home to his daughter, maybe he couldve been a bit of a better dad (this is because kids were involved in part 4 even if they didn’t try to because stand users attract stand users, and jotaro couldnt risk doing that to his daughter, so he ends up never coming home); and now for part 6, jotaro hopes that if it ends just a little better than the previous two, jotaro could at least died a satisfying death of sacrificing himself for jolyne, or maybe even got a chance to try mending his relationship with jolyne if they both survive

“I’m shattered porcelain, glued back together again” So this line speaks to both physical and emotional states Jotaro was physically “shattered porcelain” when he lost his stand and memory and also was shot, and he was “glued back together again” when he got medical attention and jolyne got back his disks Jotaro was emotionally “shattered porcelain” due to the fact he couldnt trust anyone completely since he was 17 goddamn years old but he’s “glued back together again” in the sense he’s ready to finally, finally try and be vulnerable in order to save his relationship with jolyne

“Invincible like i’ve never been” This line hurts so fucking much because i believe jotaro was optimistic, all things considered, at the beginning of the final fight in stone ocean. After all, he knows he’s an important figure in all this, he has his stand disk and memories back, he and jolyne and the others have a plan, and he has a future he wants to fight for in addition to the world’s continued functioning So he feels “invincible” like he’s never felt before because not even during the part 3 final battle with dio did he have the hope for the future he has now. But then. Then pucci brings out the knives. And the man who could control time never had enough in the end. He dies and cant even save jolyne with his death. The world ends. He failed. I think this is perfectly represented with how suddenly the song ends. It just perfectly encapsulates the tragedy that is jotaro kujo and i cant stop fucking thinking about it

Why I like them:

1)The mysteries about her. Why does she have a different voice than Xion or Kairi? Why does she look different from Kairi? Where does she get her powers? Does it mean something that her star charm in Re: CoM now, in retrospect, looks like it is the keychain off the Starlight keyblade? Why does she talk about being alone for so long in Chain of Memories and invoke  the feeling of long standing loneliness and solitude (for real, take a shot every time she says she waited/was alone “so long”), and have a fine tuned grasp of not only self but of powers that the Org probably couldn’t have taught her (though maybe Zexion could have helped a bit since he commands illusions), and,aside from power knowledge, personal knowledge on how exactly how to deconstruct Sora’s past when she had, supposedly, only been created at the same time as Roxas who was still figuring things out in general and barely had any Sora dreams at that time? Even Xion took longer to tap into Sora. Can we trust what we are told about her origins that answers some of these questions or has Kairi also been sheltering more people in her heart? 2) That she’s the embodiment of don’t confuse kindness or softness with weakness 3) That she retains a kind, trusting nature and wants to help despite what her life has been like

Why I don’t: Both not enough and too much done with her at the same time, if that makes sense. She shows up a lot of places, has a deus ex machina feel in some of them, and yet she doesn’t truly add anything in a lot of them or what she does do (like the Coded messages) then needs to be redone/re-explained from other sources, and I say that as someone who loves the character.

Favorite scene: I can’t think of a specific right now, though, a lot of her wistful drawing lives she thinks she can’t have scenes stick with me. Nerdy answer, but some of her explanations of how memories and her powers related to them work and what exactly she is doing to Sora. Lore and characterization implications

Favorite game: Chain of Memories

Favorite line: When she’s telling Sora that one day his light will be what brings everyone together and makes things right.

Favorite outfit: A few of the fandom blue dresses, but alas, there is only one canon outfit. 

OTP: The one part throws me off with a lot of characters because sometimes it just depends on the day. Is this a Namishi day or a Ventus/Naminè day? 

Brotp: Naminè and Sora 

Head Canon: Naminè would be able to fight the same way Relm does in FFVI. There’s a reason that Arrowny is my go-to last name for her 9/10 when I need one. To explain: Relm is an artist and magic user and her signature technique is to do a quick sketch of the monsters which then comes to life and attacks them (Doodle Bob before Spongebob existed). This would be obviously difficult to implement in a game unless it was turn based (though they could make it a special triangle action command ability), but this isn’t strictly for a future game, just something I think could/should be possible in universe and I might implement in a fic sometime. Honestly, every time someone says they want Nam to fight, but not be a keyblade wielder and start debating what she would do, I want to say this, even if I think the fact that she could be/already is a spellcaster is pretty much a given too.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t think evil!Naminè or, at the very least pushed-too-far-and-having-an-outburst Naminè is that much of a leap. IDK, the few people I have talked to about Naminè snapping and going off the rails, even if they were all for it, seemed to treat it as an alien concept, but nobody is arguing she doesn’t have power enough to be immediately dangerous and screw things up to the point where people are not easily fixed. We know, at least in the beginning that she can go morally questionable to be self-serving even if she regrets it/wants to reverse it/has lines she won’t cross later (at least in canon). We know she has potential to have an angry moment and lash out (see: her telling Repliku to stop and immediately taking him out with magic). Even though we see her subservient and pliant with the Org and then DiZ most of the time, that doesn’t mean that’s all there is, and if we want to talk Nobodies and Somebodies… Well, let’s compare  Roxas who demonstrates Sora’s repressed anger more easily but still has all his other traits, such as positivity and caring for friends to the point of...well, there’s no limit to it, nothing he wouldn’t do. Naminè is Kairi’s hidden insecurities and fear sometimes but she would also have Kairi’s desire to just fuck things up/fight/not get left behind just fighting to get out. Just my take. Cute and terrifying could be a thing. Almost anyone who has gotten me to talk about Naminè at length has seen the topic wander to Naminè murder spree or something like it. Aren’t you tired of being nice? Don’t you just want to go ape shit? 

A wish: Well, now it’s the previous answer, but, on a more serious note, I want to see Naminè getting to travel to see all the beauty in the worlds firsthand, to know people like her and she is not just a shadow, to help Ventus regain his memories of KHUX, and to make her own decisions.

Our story (part 1)

I combined some requests i got and decided to write this. I hope everyone is pleased

Kamilah Sayeed. A great CEO of the big Ahmanet Financial company. Her base was in New York and almost everyone knew and admire her, especially the press. She was always so mysterious and calm that it caught every reporter's attention.

"Come in" Kamilah said allowing her assistant to walk in, a pitiful look on her face

"Miss Sayeed they are here again" she said giving her a sympathetic look "our security tried to push them away but in our best guess even the BBC news are out here"

Kamilah rolled her eyes, anger building inside her "Very well, inform them i only give them one minute, my fiance is waiting for me home"

Her assistant nodded heading outside, Kamilah wore her sunglasses ready for the paparazzi to attack her like a pray

Amy looked at her clock again sighing. Kamilah promised she would get home soon tonight but as always she was late. She was more than happy that her fiance's company was growing and her name was getting bigger day by day but something inside her told her something would go wrong and soon.

Pulling out her phone she dealt Kamilah's number

"The user you are calling isn't available right now, please leave a message"

"Damn it" she said to herself falling back at the couch pillows. Why cant her life be normal? No paparazzi, no interviews no reporters. But she could never blame her, Kamilah hated this fame as much as Amy so she knew there was nothing she could do that would stop their hunger for headlines.

She poured another glass of wine, the frustration inside her was growing more and more making her impatient. Fuck it she thought putting on her coat.

Exiting the building everyone turned their attention on Kamilah walking gracefully outside. All the microphones and cameras were shoved in her face, flashes filled the night turning it into day.

"Is it true that you are engaged Miss Sayeed?" A reporter asked

"We digged deep and found nothing about your past why are you so mysterious?" Another one interrupted the other

"Last year you gave us a statement saying you dont date anyone, were you hiding your fiancé?"

"Is she a normal person like everyone else or your heart was stolen by a celebrity"

"Is it Priya Lacroix? We saw you together plenty of times"

The cameras flashes felt like they would burn her skin, every click becoming more and more unbearable, every echo triggering her nerves

"I want to say that--" but she stopped, spotting Amy walking down the sidewalk towards the big commotion.

Amy stopped her tracks noticing all these reports suffocating Kamilah, no wonder she was late.

She made the mistake to let her gaze hold way to long giving the opening to the reporters "Is that her fiance??" one of them said running towards her, the others following behind

Not long after about twenty microphones were on her face, reporters pushing one another to step closer, the cameras zooming in on her

"Beautiful ring when did you get engaged?"

"Are you planning the wedding?"

"When did you start dating Miss Sayeed?"

Everything was spinning, the flashes blinding her. She tried to cover her eyes but the voices were loud around her, making her uneasy.

Kamilah pushed her way to where Amy was covering her with her coat leading her to the limousine that waited for them.

The driver was quick to leave the place, the reporters tried to run behind them but failed. Once they were out of sight Kamilah let out a heavy sigh of relief

"Are you alright?" she asked reaching for Amy's hand

"Its just..i felt like they would eat me alive" she said shaking her head "and all those flashes, i felt like my eyes were burning"

Kamilah squeezed her hand "i was about to kill every single one of them"

Amy laughed "i wouldn't complain"

They sat in silence for a while until Amy broke it "thank god my parents live in Europe and they dont watch the news"

Kamilah crossed her arms looking at her curiously "and why is that?"

Amy frowned looking out from the window lost in thought and memories "its just..they aren't accepting"

"Homophobic" Kamilah added coming closer to her taking her in her arms "don't worry, i wont let anyone break your heart"

Amy leaned into the touch letting all those bad memories disappear focusing on the security and safety Kamilah was giving her, nothing else mattered as long she was with her

"Kamilah what if they find out? They will kill--"

"I wont let anyone get between us, not even your parents"

"But--" Amy tried to protest and worry more but Kamilah stopped her

"I promise" Kamilah said stroking gently her cheek

"I love you" Amy whispered kissing her sweetly

"I love you too habibti" Kamilah said kissing her deeply forgetting the world around them.

Harper x Sero

Something I never thought I'd be writing, but here we are. This one-shot belongs to this book! Expect typos I'm writing this on my phone and fucking light speed and then passing out—

When Harper first met Sero, it was as a new student. Nezu was bringing her in to track down the traitor he was convinced was amongst them, and Harper wanted a life that was more than stoners and teachers who were only there for the pay. She wanted to make her parents proud, and to help. As much as she tended to dislike people, she'd still said yes. And god damn was it a headache.

Looking at Harper, Sero never would've assumed. Not in a million years. She was tired, and lazy, and not keen on making friends. Why someone like Harper had been brought in and added to the already-full Class 1-A was something the Tape Quirk user couldn't for the life of him figure out! He'd reported it to Shigaraki, who listened only vaguely to his report before brushing the new girl off without so much as a grunt. And in all honesty, Sero had brushed her off too.

Harper Rye came off as lazy and uncaring. She put effort into things, but not too much effort. She wasn't mean, but she wasn't nice. She appeared to be as average as they came. A boring individual with little drive who'd no doubt go on to live a mundane life, with her mundane quirk. She was written off neatly, just like a majority of the students at UA, save for a select few of interest.

It wasn't until the whole UA Staff incident that he finally became suspicious. He jumped to the closest conclusions as soon as the cop cars showed up. Harper had very conveniently disappeared while it was happening, and after that, the gardener was taken in! Someone they'd brushed over completely. He went squealing like a pig to Shigaraki, only to be scolded a few days later when the lead came up dry.

The buzz of fear and adrenaline faded when he realized he'd been wrong. That Harper Rye had not in fact been the one to expose the traitorous UA Staff, but was instead just rushing out to greet her father. It made perfect sense. Her father, a detective, had obviously come into the scene. It was oh-so very interesting to learn her father was in the force. Would Harper join one day, too? Become just another officer? That's what it seemed like.

There were other peculiarities she presented. Foolishly, he pushed them off to the side. He'd been convinced she was nothing. A lazy, pessimist teenager who didn't value all she had. Just another ungrateful living at the top of it all. She talked a lot with teachers, but she was new, and it made sense in his mind and in everyone else's. He'd brought her up a few times with the peer group he'd fallen in with, but they just shrugged her to the side as he'd been doing. Save for Kirishima, but that was a different circumstances.

It wasn't until the Sports Festival that the harsh reality he'd been denying came crashing over him. The pieces clicked into place as she looked him in the eyes. Her eyes were like steel doors. If she didn't want emotion to escape through what were supposed to be the doors to her soul, then none would, simple as that.

He was knocked out and taken away. He refused to speak. He'd been discovered. No longer was he a useful pawn in Shigaraki's game. He'd been knocked off the board. The League would be looking to get rid of him completely. Sero panicked. He thought about his life before, and about the box. Only he wasn't quite sure what the box was, or what his life before was even like. Brief flashes of blood, and a younger sister he was sure he loved so dearly. His parents, dead on the floor. A river. A box. Screaming, and the desperate calling of his name.

He was mad at himself for getting caught by someone as incompetent as Harper came off. Aloof, tired, and seemingly always irritated, she hadn't come off as a threat. She still didn't! Thinking back, all she'd really done was sat there. She wasn't a great fighter, but not the worst. She didn't have much stamina, but wasn't completely out of shape. Everything about her was average, average, average!

Only, it wasn't, was it? It wasn't until Harper Rye stepped into the interrogation room he'd been forced to sit in day after day, that he truly saw who she was. It was a mere glimpse, but enough to knock the air out of him. He'd been silent since his capture, answering no questions. But now, he had a million of his own he wanted to inquire about.

Harper came in looking as she always did, if you excused the cat ears and trench coat. Only she was so much different. He could see in that moment that she was a ball of fire with icy eyes and nerves that couldn't be easily shaken. She was prepared: open, but guarded at the same time. A masterpiece of a human being. One hidden behind a thin, yet securely constructed veil. One she'd cultivated for years, just as he had his own.

She dug into him. He didn't know how she managed to get to him. It wasn't the information she had, or even the way it said it. Something about Harper almost made him want to talk. The rise into a threat, and then her descent into reassurance. It was immaculate and entirely intoxicating to experience. She knew what she was doing. She knew how to get under his skin like no one ever had before, and his curiosity soon knew no bounds.

He thought he wouldn't be seeing her much. She didn't appear to want to be there, but then again, it didn't seem like she ever wanted to be anywhere that wasn't her bed. So when she came in to see him a second time, he was... Surprised. A little happy for some competent company.

He thought she'd be asking questions. But instead, she sat down, kicked back in her chair, and launched into a rant about how shitty her day was.

It was such small things, all built up into what sounded like a migraine. Everything collected into what sounded like a truly rough time. Her coffee didn't have the right amount of sugar, and Kaminari electrocuted Tsuyu while they were sparring, so Harper had to take her to the infirmary. Mic accidentally threw her English book out a window, and Ochako made her desk float. Aizawa made her stay after class for "some dumb shit" as she'd put it. She only got three hours of sleep the night before, and didn't have time to nap before coming to see him.

Small, mundane, ordinary.

Interesting.

Sero didn't have much else to do but get wrapped up in Harper Rye, who was deceptive without even trying. He'd had a panic attack, and felt she was the only one who could calm him. And she was. She sighed on the phone, but cared. She promised to get his guards switched out. And she did. Anything she said she'd get done, she got done. It was admirable. He was glad she'd come visit.

They'd joke, and laugh, and okay games like Uno and Monopoly that would end in arguments that were refreshing rather than infuriating. She came to see him, not to pry out information, but to talk to him. See if he was okay, and ask how his day was. She kept him updated on the outside world, and showed him meaningless videos on her phone that he'd cackle at, while she shook her head in amusement.

No one had cared for him like that before. Not that he could remember. He felt such a connection with Harper. She knew who he was and what he'd done. He'd been a member of the League! But she still talked to him, and trusted with him. She'd smile and roll her eyes in a well-mannered sort of way. Sneak him fast food and groan about the small inconveniences that had built up in her day, as well as the large ones.

A few things happened all at once. Harper trudged in, dead on her feet, and said she was going to take a nap. And she did. She set her phone in the table, rested her head on her arms, and fell asleep.

He knew the password to her phone.

She'd left the door to the room wide open. As if it were inviting him to escape.

Her backpack was there, full of things he was not allowed to have.

But the only thing Sero could focus on was Harper. Because she'd walked in, and put trust in him. An immense amount. She was asleep. The back of her neck was exposed. It would be so easy to end her, right then and there.

Sero stared for a moment. And then he smiled, in a sad sort of way, and folded his arms onto the table so that one of them was pressed firm against one of Harper's. He stared a little longer, and let out a long breath of air.

He laid his head down on his arms, and fell asleep smiling next to someone he knew he could never really have.

From Worst to Best (only the main games because q and q2 are pretty different and the dancing games are rad as hell and the fighting games are unbalanced as fuck)

5. Persona 4 Easily my least favorite.  Super not into the story and i felt the characters deserved better than what they got.  Feel like Naoto got really robbed of a great story about body dysmorphia/sexism in Japanese society and they bait you in with those concepts and then just...drop them for detective stuff which was wack.  Persona 4 is also the easiest in the series largely because of how unbalanced it is.  They merged all physical attacks into one category and also made physical strikes broken as shit and they way outclass your magic users.  At least the music is good though.  Too bad I can't stand the story because those characters deserved better.  Lot of potential just really not my favorite because of how easy it is and how 2 dimensional the characters are, especially coming off the persona 3 cast.  I’m fine with a more lighthearted game if the story is good and I just wasn't into it.

4. Persona Ehh, not much to say about this one.  It’s just the first in the series so they were getting their bearings.  Music is still pretty good but the game is just suuper suuper dated.  Combat is different, but it did set up the series as a whole so i’m not really trying to hate too much on this one.

3.  Persona 5 Persona 5 is good.  It’s really good, the music is good and everything looks so goddamn cool.  Literally everything you do looks rad as hell.  If this was just based on looks alone, Persona 5 would be the best hands down, talk about aesthetics.  What brings this down for me is how fucking easy this game is, almost as easy as P4 and how some of the characters again get fucking robbed of really good stories.  Also this is a complaint for both P4 and P5 that wasn’t present in the other games but I fucking hate how nobody can overcome their problems without you.  I hate how everyone is practically beholden to the main protag.  It’s really really frustrating to me because it robs those characters of their individuality.  Also I hate vanilla’s final boss just because its a ‘you’ve really been fighting this the whole time!’ but it feels unwarranted and...I just dont care enough?  Now P5R’s final boss, that’s a good final boss right there.  I understand and sympathize with his motivations but that doesnt make it right.  The best bad guys aren’t just bad guys.

2. Persona 2 (both of them) Goddamn Atlus please give these games some love because they are so good. Innocent sin was my first persona game and I was hooked instantly.  It easily has the best story for me and the music is also almost the best in the series.  The characters are also so fucking likeable and diverse and this was before social links were a thing.  But it didn’t matter.  God bless these games, everyone bitches about Atlus forgetting about Fem Protag from p3 but at least the fans remember her.  Nobody gives a shit about Maya and it breaks my heart because goddamn she great.   Justice for Persona 2

1.  Persona 3 (he says. surprising no one) Best soundtrack, best cast, (2nd) best story. Coming off Persona 2 EP right into FES was such a great transition.   Music is the best the series has ever had, Lotus Juice blew my brain out the back of my fucking head with how fire his lyrics are and its nuts how easy hearing certain tracks today will still tug on some really heavy heartstrings for me.  This game, pretty much defines what Persona is to me.  

These characters are the most fleshed out, independent characters the series has had and likely ever will have.  Unlike the latter games, the Persona 3 cast is hardly beholden to you.  They have strong relationships with other party members and some even with side characters you barely see.  They feel like real people.  The cast feels like a real group of friends, with strong relationships with one another as well as you.  How many gain their resolve and evolve their Persona because of you? Hint, only one.   Imagine people being able to figure their own shit out WITHOUT you.  Sorry but man that really pissed me off about P4 and REALLY pissed me off in P5.

I could go on for literal years about why Persona 3 is the best game but I don’t want to.  It’s just the best one.

Note how there’s mention of Julian being Jeff Goldblum... but nothing about him and Portia being Jewish (or “fantasy Jewish” as it were).

another fun tidbit of how well The Arcana handles race and how much it cares about feedback from fans: an ask was sent about an anon begging for Nadia to step on them. Then Asra’s route has yet another paid scene dedicated to Asrian, even though he’s supposed to not even like Julian! And be head over heels with the Apprentice! But Elle just has to make these two be entangled despite insisting their relationship was not good for either of them!

Now here’s the kicker: Julian doesn’t have any paid scenes related to his romance with Asra. Note how it’s one of the brown LIs whose route is highjacked by the white LI, but not vice versa. Hmmmmm.

Now, on the topic of Asra: thearcanagame has said repeatedly that he’s nb and uses he/him pronouns, and promised (since last year) that there would be dialogue where he speaks about his gender

as of the making of this post such dialogue still does not exist

so basically asra is the nb to dumbledore’s gay: anyone who just plays the game w/o keeping up with the official blog has no idea of what asra’s gender is supposed to be.

aka he’s not nb. he’s just a cis guy. the arcana just doesn’t want to put its money where its mouth is, i dont care if elle is nb themself. the team made a promise which has not been fulfilled yet and i suspect will not be.

instead, our introduction to canon nb characters is... these two.

By “these two” i mean neither vulgora nor valdemar are even fucking human, and stick out like sore thumbs with their monstruousness.

so our nb rep is... non-human villains. a few books later one of Nadia’s sisters with they/them pronouns shows up, but that’s too little too late on top of the fact that we should’ve known Asra was nb from the first to begin with. It’s a fucking embarrassment and an insult.

at least two villains are visibly disabled (Lucio’s missing arm and Volta’s blind eye+intentionally asymmetrical face). Julian’s eye doesn’t count because, spoilers, he’s not lacking an eye and even if he was it’d still be hidden behind a dashing eyepatch instead of grotesquely displayed as a sign of his lacking morality.

the tl;dr is basically what’s listed in the beginning of this section, but other highlights from that post are: the use of addictive gambling mechanics such the Wheel of Fortune, and the dazzling calls to action in the new mini-game.

something that The Arcana supporters forget (or choose to ignore) is the fact that for a long, long time the game did not have the mini-game or the log-in rewards for coins. Players depended only on the gambling of the WoF or paying absurd amounts of money for the new chapters.

the devs went from playing the victims who were unable of controlling prices to (as spoken of in the link from mysticmicrotransactions) saying the making of the game (a pathetic little app game backed by a studio and a kickstarter) justifies the prices

they also gave people false hope about maybe changing the prices in the future, all while bleeding money from loyal players in “micro” transactions

the arcana literally added a $99.99 coins option on their latest update

in case it hasn’t sunk in yet: you can pay a hundred dollars upfront to the arcana, and you still will not have access to the whole game

“it’s free stop whining” let me explain:

“spend months on end accumulating fake currency or pay hundreds of dollars up-front to be able to play” is a scummy business model no matter how you look at it

if i can spend $60 upfront to play an AAA game there’s no excuse to demand more than that for a game with much smaller and, honestly, inferior content

the combination of there being already far and few games featuring lgbt characters and characters of color AND the little cult of personality set up by Dana and Elle makes people feel that spending money to support them is an acceptable expense.

manipulating people into spending ridiculous amounts of money and then claiming “it’s their choice” is just scummy business, baby, and thats all the arcana does

the devs are brats who instead of admitting $500 is absurd for a game instead write petty little caricatures into their game - like, lbr: dana, elle, if i could afford diamonds in my hair i wouldn’t have even bothered with your shitstain of a game

despite bragging that ppl would get the full story w/o needing to pay, the paid scenes are pretty much required - the first few books of julian’s route have no romance without accessing any of the paid options. you dont even get so much as a kiss in without handing coins over. many, many people were baffled when julian had a teary break-up scene when from their perspective they hadn’t even started building a relationship.

The gremlin retreats after getting her licks. This scene subtly implied something; the Nehushtan armor she wears regenerates over time, which means no matter how much damage it sustains, it will always return in one piece. The same can’t be said for the user, though.

Hibiki runs to Tsubasa, checking if she’s okay, totally oblivious to the gravity of what just happened.

“i came just as i could and ive brought happy meals for everyone”

Genjuro asks if Tsubasa is okay.

I dunno man, this is a pretty tough judgement call here. I mean, is she okay? Pain is a pretty subjective experience, after all.

“oh my god i get it. i get the joke she implied. she wanted to jam. she’s jammed! cause it- it looks like jam! no, wait, its more like sauce...”

It dawns on Hibiki that people actually do die during this job.

Tsubasa, as it turns out, survived her Swan Song. It makes sense that she would because she was naturally receptive to her relic, Ame-No-Habakiri. Still, the injury comes with great gravity. She’s benched for the next season, and it’s likely she’s gonna miss the playoffs.

Stuck on a respirator on the edge of life, Tsubasa will probably look back at this and go, “Gosh, I was such a wild child. Haha. Almost dying and all.”

Hibiki wraps her single braincell around the idea of death. Most main characters aren’t familiar with the concept of death, you see, because most don’t die. But this is Season One Symphogear. Flirting with death is common.

Ogawa comes in to comfort her.

“dumbass had her opponent bound and the gremlin still escaped anyway”

Ogawa then explains shit we already know. Thanks, Ogawa.

“in summation: i get where you’re coming from, but stop fucking saying ‘im gonna replace kanade’, please, im begging you”

Hibiki FINALLY gets it, and naturally upon realizing, feels really bad for it. A real right and true asshole.

Meanwhile, in Tsubasa’s mind...

“ah fuck me. im trapped in metaphor limbo. see, im falling because i clipped my wing, cause i nearly died, you know, like icarus and shit”

“hold up my gay senses are tingling”

Her senses confirmed. Kanade is in her mind, in probably the most romantic metaphor possible. There is absolutely no way to interpret all of this platonically.

Tsubasa is literally submerged in a sea of her own emotions...

Involving Kanade, and how she strives to be like her and honor her memory.

SHE LITERALLY DROWNS IN THOSE EMOTIONS, SUBMERGING DEEPER INTO THE WATER.

Tsubasa, in her Symphogear Brand Medical Cocoon for the Dumb and Beaten Down, quietly slumbers in her semi-comatose state as she wrestles the water metaphors of her own sexual identity.

The poor thing just misses her girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Hibiki sits and thinks more than usual. In a flashback, Genjuro muses about how The Gremlin wanted to kidnap Hibiki.

“i dunno maybe The Gremlin’s super lonely or shit”

“i mean if thats the case ill just adopt her too”

Since Tsubasa is away, Hibiki has to pick up the quota for teenage angst in the 2nd Division. Unfortunately, she has very big shoes to fill, but Hibiki isn’t one for slacking in the misery department. She blames herself for everything.

“im really going to fire the therapist we have around here for being pretty damn useless”

“can i be the therapist?”

“ryoko i am absolutely begging you to filter your bad ideas given the several teenage crises we’re dealing with right now”

Hibiki then yells out, for what is possibly the third time, out of the blue:

“I HAVE PEOPLE I WANT TO PROTECT”

The flashback ends.

And speaking of girlfriends.

“there is no force on this planet stopping me from having some quality fucking time with my girlfriend damnit”

Miku points out Hibiki has been pretty lonely. Says she heard it from a friend who, heard it from a friend who, heard it from another she was messin’ ‘round.

Unfortunately, Miku is a goddamned chad.

Immediate handholding. Make no mistake. Behind those soft-spoken eyes lies an absolute master.

Their relationship is interesting. When one of them is sad, the other sorta acts as an angst vacuum. You’ll see them flip flop with their points of misery with each other, but when together, those problems always melt away.

Of course, emphasis on being together. Season 1 is the worst with keep them away from each other.
