What's your opinion on barn cats/mousers? Are they an acceptable subset of "outdoor cat"?

Certainly barn cats pose the same problem as pets that live in more urban environments. They still hunt birds, spread disease, out-compete native wildlife— all that bad stuff. In an ideal world barn cats wouldn't exist so those things would all stop happening. I don't think harmful, invasive species are in any way "acceptable" and I definitely wouldn't encourage it.

At the same time though I do think sometimes the barn cat solutions proposed on tumblr (hiring ratting terriers among some other ideas) also seem a little... unrealistic. At least given my personal experience with farms and farmers, particularly in places far less populated and more remote than the USA. Asking people to get rid of their barn cats cold-turkey is an approach I think would see more pushback than progress.

Working towards better welfare for barn cats and restricting their impact on the environment through education, low cost spay/neuter/vaccine programs and limiting cats' range to the barn buildings only seem like more attainable goals right now. Barn cats are not good for the environment or the cat, but I think we need to take a more gradual approach to the issue than a rip-off-the-bandaid solution in order to make progress. As animal welfare laws continue to develop and indoor cats become the norm in urban areas I think that will also encourage the transition from rural outdoor cats to indoor ones as well.

I'm a 5'9" non-binary transmasc 20 year old whose pronouns are he/they. I have short brown hair that I bleach blonde all the time and a beard that is slowly starting to come in. Normally, I dress pretty casually - graphic tees and a t-shirt - and don't really like formal wear.

I am, generally, really nice to people and really like to get on everyone's good side. That is, unless someone is rude to me at first, then they get to hear my sarcastic and rude comments right back. Even though, on the outside, I'm angry with those types of people, on the inside, I'm an emotional wreck. I can't handle my emotions that well and like to stop talking to people/retreat back into my own mind when I feel overwhelmed.

During the week, I am a teacher at a daycare, but when I'm not at work, I'm either writing, drawing, or playing video games. Overall, I don't like going out in public unless it's grocery shopping. I also own 4 cats.

I assume every time people give me their 💗 character is bc it's their fav for themselves and I swear to god, majority of times they're such good matches for them. And this is the case too! Aizawa is made for you? And you for him???? I feel it.

Tamaki:

× Okay, okay, poor babey can come off as very anxious, we all know, but he is so compassionate, loyal and caring. It's a slow burn with him, and it has to start as a friendship first, but trust me when I tell you, everything is worth it in the end.

× Not a social creature. Is up to hang out together alone and just enjoy your company. I believe your calm nature would be a relief for him at the start then you'd get to know a more opened and easy-going Tamaki.

× He's very gentle with you and is a very strong mental support for anyone but himself 💀 I do believe if you have each other's back you'd grow and learn so much together. You can talk to him and he will never judge. Just know that.

× In my mind Tamaki is a cat person. Cats would approach him and he'd love them for their nature, meaning he'd love your babies and even bring them treats if you allow it. [I legit imagine him as a cat magnet and I'm envious?]

× I thought of him even without the need of the 💗. You'd get along so well, it's ridiculous how much you just click.

× I sense a mature couple and a lot of domesticity. He isn't an outdoors man and would rather spend quality time with you at home whenever he can. Helps him relax and enjoys your company.

× He's pissy with people that fuck with you. I genuinely feel he'd have a big understanding of your personality and would know whenever you just want to get out of a situation. The fact that someone bothered you will make him be terrifying and there's no stopping him. It's okay though, this man knows how to verbally end someone in .3 seconds then take you home.

× 4 cats and your company is like ✨the dream✨ for him. Like who are we kidding here? Whenever he sleeps in the classroom he's dreaming of sleeping at home with you and the cats sprawled around 💀
