Analia the Bee

I made this after finding a bee that I thought was dead, but was actually still alive, barely.

I don't usually name my specimens, but I asked my best friend if she wanted a bee named after her and she said "yes" (btw her name is pronounced "ah-nah-LEE-ah", not "an-NAH-lia").

Of all the animals I've found, this one made me the saddest.

LORE UNDER CUT WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

OKAY i finally made up my mind on Toni (he/him) lore!!

Toni used to be a maid in da tower, he's made of dough and cheese. He cleans n whatever, would frequently bug Pepperman to draw his "ideal" body for him. He was completely obsessed with the macho aesthetic and was miserable he looked nothing like how he felt on the inside. He was a big guy in his head!!

So he bails to hide in the deepest corners of the basement and meticulously craft himself into his ideal self. His body is pretty moldable! Though he needed more mass to gain all that height and muscle. So he'd yoink any cheese slimes that made the mistake of crossing his path.

He's not an 'official' tower boss by any means. Pizza Head doesn't even realize Toni's down there, and the other bosses aren't really aware he transitioned. He IS however VERY curious about this Peppino guy storming through the tower... a worthy opponent to test if his body's ready for debut!!

ANYWAY uh Peppino kicks his ass or whatever. He's absolutely enamored by the weird italian guy. Thinks he's the peak of masculinity and refuses to stop following him around. Eventually bags a job at Peppino's since he's kinda homeless what with the tower, uh, collapsing. You know how it goes.

I like to think for the other bosses Toni would only really get along well with Pepperman, both pre- and post- transition. While he's not the brightest Toni does admire Pepperman's art. Plus he was pretty much the only person in the tower Toni felt comfortable talking about his ideal self with. I think Vigilante wouldn't like how loud he is, and Noise would either just get him riled up or he'd be too thickheaded to be fun to prank. I don't know how Fake Peppino would feel about him... I don't think FP would like how he smells. But otherwise it might be okay.

Peppino helps Toni be more vulnerable!! Toni feels a constant pressure to extrude this macho energy, the loudest and most violent person in the room. Peppino helps Toni see he can be just as much a man without having to be so aggressive. He can lean on others too. (-:

That last bit is me projecting I need a Peppino in my life to do that for me PLEASE

Just finished this pic!!! Not entirely happy with the shading, but I don't usually do much beyond flats, so I wanted to try doing more shading this time. Very happy with how the line art came out though! Tumblr has greatly crunched the quality as usual, so please click on the picture lol.

Pleasantview shenanigans

I had some time to actually play my game recently, so I popped in on the premades before I head into my custom neighborhood to add some of my Sims friends' characters.

First off, I got the Burbs settled into @anhedonicworm's makeover. John really enjoys gardening and nature and I can relate. Unfortunately bees are also in nature and he decided to run into the house while Lucy was visiting with her best friend, Beau, after school.

It resulted in the best screenshot I've ever taken in all my years of playing yet, I don't even care about Tumblr crunching the quality:

Sorry John, there are very much bees. Please get them out of the front room before they spread.

Lucy and Beau are in the midst of a pillow fight and ignore the fiasco- priorities, after all.

John and Jennifer tried for their second baby and the pregnancy was very hard on her. She got stuck in the void of being too tired to eat and too hungry to sleep and died after giving birth from starvation. I had set out so many different meals and snacks for her, but her lack of brain cells sim nature won in the end. She and John nearly had a max relationship and good chemistry, so I'm not sure why he couldn't save her when I don't have a mod for that.

Lucy grew up and unfortunately her birthday party fell through because Lilith and Angela were kicking the glitter out of each other the entire time, but she became a family Sim since she has a very strong relationship with her dad. She absolutely adores her baby brother, Branson, and doesn't mind helping John out with him without being asked.

Meanwhile, the Caliente sisters are the messiest neighbors in the neighborhood. I decided to incorporate their alien heritage using @midgethetree's reproductive controller's alien token. It's had some interesting effects with Nina's many rendezvouses.

She and Darren had a fling that resulted in a pregnancy on his part. The relationship dissolved when he caught Nina with Brandi and he's now raising their infant daughter, Darla.

Upon loading a fresh copy of fixed Pleasantview, Mortimer was rolling wants for Dina and Nina, more so Nina even though they'd only just met and not flirted with each other, so this happened.

Mortimer was jilted from his divorce with Bella after she became pregnant by Don Lothario and Cassandra called off her engagement.

He also caught Dina with Don when he visited the restaurant they went to as an NPC. Crusty old codger went into rebound desperation.

I mixed some mods together (not Inteenimater, I hate that) and wanted to add more drama and explain Lilith's strained relationship with her parents. I went back in Sim PE before playing and gave her the same growing up milestones as Angela and only had the memory of growing up badly as a teenager instead of both. I've tried getting them to apologize but all Angela wants to do is instigate fights.

I'm trying to overcome some of my tokophobia. When I first started playing I had my Sims adopt all of their children because it grossed me out so much- so, progress I guess?

Lilith and Dirk are about to head off to college since they both rolled the want. Since Lilith has such a good relationship with Coral and Herb, she's going to be moving into their home.

Mary-Sue and Daniel just had their newborn son, Jeffery, and she caught Daniel with Kaylynn (because I hate Daniel lol) and divorced him. Lilith has been working very hard for most of her life stage while Angela has been fixated on her new boyfriend, Alexander Goth which caused her grades to suffer. Their academic standing swapped but Angela has mellowed and they haven't fought as much as they did when they were younger.

Art Feedback Session - Spookydoesstuff

"Our task was to make a mock intro to a show using our own original stories, either ones we had in the past or ones we made in class. I used Adobe Animate, which isn't very traditional for art to begin with.

I wanted something dramatic and more anime-esqe (inspirations being Persona 5's 2D animation, as well as the Cowboy Beebop intro.

The render itself didn't turn out as high quality as I had hoped, but that's on me for not figuring out how to render in a higher quality. With my time crunch (I had put off working on this until I had 1 1/2 days left, on top of a project for another class.)

I feel this could have been better? But I'm satisfied with it. I just wished someone had said something, even just asking about my characters (I dont generally ask here, at least about these specific ocs, just because I've had them so long and I want to give out more of their story through context and art. But in that class no one had seen them before and I would have loved explaining their story better than just 'alien cats')"

So! Let's start with the good. The color contrast is lovely, the bright red against the monochrome is a classic high tension color combo that really sells the adversarial stress of the scene. The characters themselves each have their own unique silhouettes, which means if you just filled each of the characters in with pure black and then showed me their reference sheets I could easily identify which character is which. The line work here is very crisp and clear, which for animation lends very well to streamlining and simplifying things. Your style itself applies very nicely to an animation style, again, thanks to its general simplicity will make the whole animation process much easier than a more detailed or complex style or design.

When thinking of areas of improvement, the first thing that is brought to my attention is expression. With the four-eyed cat in the second image, at a glance it's hard to see he's furrowing his brow a bit and his current expression comes across more as a neutral expression than a concerned, worried, or frustrated expression. I would recommend here adding a bit of emphasis on the expression with the eyelids or eyebrows so that it goes into the general shape of the eye instead of just above it or add a stylized eyebrow so it is more visible against the dark fur. Due to the thin line art, the line that marks where he's furrowing his brow is hard to spot.

Your art would also benefit from expression through body language! Cats, in particular, are incredibly expressive through body language. The ears in particular here are showing no emotion- Cats when anxious, scared, or angry will pin their ears back. Perhaps a bit more emphasis on bristling fur too- in the nape of the neck and the tail. Fluffing of tails is not just fear, but also aggression when raised high or thrashing. When curved it's fear. The nervous cat in the second picture might want to be keeping her head a little lower, as nervous cats will duck down, especially if submissive. Of course, since these are not standard cats, you are welcome to take these cat behaviors and alter them to your alien culture's standards! Go wild!

Also, look into playing with the line of action a little more. Even with characters that are standing still, exaggerating some curves in their body will add a hearty dose of personality. Plus, look into the 'law' of stretch and squish- I use the term law here loosely, it's more of a guideline.

Next I'd like to mention the shading. There is a bit of an inconsistency between the way you shaded each character. Although lighting direction was ignored for style here, the particular techniques used for each piece should remain the same throughout each frame of an animation, each panel of a comic, or between related images in general. In the second photo, the highlights on the four-eyed cat almost looked like fur patterning, so maybe refining that highlight by making it a little darker would make it more obvious it was a highlight and not a change in fur color?

I think if you were given a little more time you would have managed with the shading, but still something of note to keep in mind for the future~

Finally I would like to address the environment... or the lack of it. The bright red background is lovely, especially in this grey scale-pop style of colors. My only issue is that it feels like they're floating in some red void- you have the darker red to denote the ground, but it doesn't feel very consistent with where the characters are placed and there's no shapes in the background to denote any kind of environment- no tree silhouettes, no building silhouettes, or any other objects that could denote where the characters are.

Above is an example from Persona 5 which kind of shows what I'm talking about. Looking at some perspective tutorials will actually show you a way you can manipulate the floor or gradients to help add some solidity to the ground. With this style I wouldn't even say you would need to add nearly as much detail to them as Persona 5's art- just some dark shapes and perhaps a gradient of sorts to give a sense of location to the scene would help.

Overall, wonderful job! My first impression was 'Oh hey this looks like something from Persona 5!' so you really got that feel you were looking for. You also immediately get a sense of relationship here- from an outsider's perspective with zero previous information on who these characters are or how they are related. You can clearly tell the four eyed cat is protecting the female cat in the back, and there's a sense of either accusation from the one-eyed cat or threat, and that the other two almost seem to be distressed as if they were once close to this character.

Keep up the good work, don't feel discouraged with the lack of feedback from your class. I really feel with a bit of practice in terms of expression and body language you can really make some great waves with your art! You have a great foundation.

In terms of art program recommendations, my wife and I both use Clip Studio Paint. You need the EX version for feature length animations unfortunately, but the PRO version is much cheaper and lets you do some very short animations however it is a very powerful illustration and comic tool as well. Krita is a totally free program that will let you animate as well and has a pretty robust illustration feature itself, but I'm not sure if it has anything specific for comic making.

Borahae Slimes Haul #3!

This was from April... and Dean has already released his next set of slimes (which I received and LOVED getting to play with last night!). And I don't have any time because I have work and need to finish packing to move in 3 days so I'm making this post on mobile while I work 😅

As always, packaging was super secure and everything arrived perfectly and safely! I bought Genius Lab, Min Holly, and Nevermind Me. The package came with the usual goodies--photocards and stickers, candy, one of those extra heart charms Dean is still trying to finish getting rid of (lol), plenty of borax powder, and a thank you card (which I apparently forgot to take a picture of lol)!

Genius Lab is a GORGEOUS silver slime with black elastic pieces and music notes as add-ins. The elastic especially gives it a really cool feel when you stretch the slime! It smells kinda musky but also kinda clean, and it just smells really nice but not overpowering.

Min Holly is so cool! It was my first time playing with a butter slime and oh my gosh I loved it! It's so soft and smooth and just really fun. It legit smells like grass and earth, so for a nature lover like me it smells wonderful! The charms are also super cute. Unfortunately this one does stain your hands a bit yellow. But that washes off with some soap and water no problem! Just be more careful than I was to not stain your clear slimes by playing with them after this one! My poor Nevermind Me now has a yellow tint to it v.v

This gorgeous crunch bomb came with some extra beads and blocks just in case you can't take too much crunch! It's such a gorgeous clear purple with plentiful sparkles, and is very fun to play with (until my hands start hurting because I can only take so much crunch lol). The smell is very crisp and I find it relaxing :)

The extra slime was a basic pastel green slime. Not much to talk about really, but I think it's always good to have a small one on hand for when you just need something quick!

As always, everything was amazing and well thought out. I love how creative Dean gets with his slimes! After I get settled into my new house, I am EXCITED to write a review of all seven slimes from the BTS anniversary release!!!!
