saw a post that gave me an eye twitch so i’m gonna break it down and analyze it bc i feel like it exemplifies a lot of what’s wrong with gentile discourse on i/p rn.

1. yeah, it is awful that zionist institutions and leadership use jewish trauma to justify why diaspora jews should unquestioningly support the current state of israel, regardless of the atrocities it commits against palestinians.

2. "israel is not your bube who survived the shoah" i don't know how to explain to you how fucking callous this sentence is.

3. for better or worse, israel did save jewish people. nearly a million jews from the swana region and 24,000 from ethiopia fled there after experiencing extreme violence and discrimination. you really think america or europe would have taken in a million black and brown jews? have you seen the current state of immigration?

4. "how do you argue with someone when their idea of israel is so rooted in their family trauma?" you don't. you validate their fears, make them feel heard, and then you offer them alternatives. the vast majority of diaspora support for israel is based in fear of persecution and eradication. if you offer real, legitimate solutions for the safety of diaspora jews, i guarantee you will be a thousand times more successful than just screaming at them and telling them "who fucking cares about your holocaust survivor bubbe????"

5. "how do you possibly tell them that the holocaust isn't relevant?" you don't, because it is. nearly 500,000 holocaust survivors moved to or were sent to israel after the shoah. some did not have a choice of where they were sent, some tried to go back to where they were living before but had no money and gentiles had taken their houses and belongings so they had nowhere to go, many faced violence upon trying to return to their hometowns in the form of pogroms, several countries turned them away. you cannot say the holocaust is not relevant to the current israeli population because gentiles in the diaspora are the reason they're there.

6. "i'm so tired of centering jewish identity in discussions over a nation state." are you stupid? genuinely, are you stupid? do you really not see how jewish identity and the history of the jewish people factor into a state with a fucking star of david on the flag that was founded after a genocide of 6 million jews that the rest of the world didn't want to deal with? seriously? no, jews in the diaspora are not responsible for the actions of the israeli government. we aren't more loyal to israel than we are to wherever we're living. but to say that israel has nothing to do with the jewish people is frankly laughable.

7. "how do you say that without sounding invalidating? like that just sounds horrible and antisemitic." that's because it is. you are being horrible and antisemitic.

nothing will change if gentiles in the diaspora do not take responsibility for the rest of the world's role in the creation of israel. research your country, learn about how they treated their jews (not just during the holocaust but from the moment there were jews in your country), talk to your local jewish population, ask how you and organizations you are part of can help keep the diaspora safe for jews. because as an american jew, i don't want to move to israel. the government is borderline fascist, non ashki non orthodox jews are often seen as second class citizens, i don't speak the language, and my life is here. a lot of diaspora jews feel this way. but every time i see another group of nazis at a rally or get another bomb threat at my synagogue and look to see which country would be safest to move to as a trans person and as a jew, the only answer is israel, which is exactly what zionist institutions and leadership are counting on. if you want that to change, you and your community have to change it.

Cassian hadn't meant to piss you off.

But, if there was one thing he had learnt over the course of your relationship, it was that he never meant to piss you off. The intention was absent but the action was...well, it was present. And pretty fucking constant. He didn't often think about his actions (and even less about the things he said) and more often than not, you found yourselves with locked horns and bitter words. It got to the point where people in the Rebellion would tip-toe around the pair of you just for fear of being caught in the middle of it.

You wouldn't have described yourselves as enemies, not by any stretch of the imagination. Friends was a strong word too. Then again, there didn't seem to be a specific term for co-workers who have been each other's partner in crime for like five years and really admire each other and probably wanna fuck but also there's tension and-

-you probably get the point.

You were only in Cassian's life by circumstance, as he was in yours. The Rebellion forced you together and even though you'd always had the option to work alone or partner up with someone else, you never strayed from his side.

Even when you argued constantly. Even when Cassian pulled the dumbest shit.

"You could have at least asked me before you attacked the base!" you hadn't meant to yell. He just brought it out of you. "There were Storm Troopers everywhere-"

"- I don't need your permission!" Cassian cut you off. "I knew what I was doing. I made it out alive, didn't I?"

"Because of luck, Cass," you muttered. "Dumb fucking luck."

He snorted, rolling his eyes and pointing to you. "You wanna talk about dumb luck?"

"Cut the snide comments," you snapped. "You can't keep avoiding the point I'm making - we're partners and you keep making stupid decisions on your own!"

"So even if I made them with you, they'd still be stupid?"

"Yeah, but we'd be making them together."

"I don't get your logic," he muttered.

"We're meant to be a team," you quietly said. "I've worked with you for the better part of five years. I've tried so hard and sometimes it feels like you don't even like me."

"Hey," Cassian's voice went soft all of a sudden. "That's not true-"

"- I can take the yelling and insults, okay?" you continued. "I just can't deal with you not trusting me in the field. That just feels insulting, like you don't trust me-"

"- I trust you with my life," he cut you off. "More than anyone or anything."

"So why do you act like you hate me?" you pushed.

"I don't hate you..."

"What is it then?" you huffed. "What could possibly make you act like I'm your worst fucking enemy-"

"- I love you," he said. "I've always loved you."

"You do?"

"It seems as though there is a fine line between love and hate and how it makes someone act, but I have never been more sure of where I stand," Cassian admitted. "Do you ever see me arguing with anyone the way I do with you? Trying to protect them that way, or care about them that way?"

"No. I don't."

"There you go, then," he smiled. "I love you."

chapters 26-27 🎉

1. dipper thinking about mabel using the memory gun on him to make him forget bill,,, hm. even if they DID do that, that might honestly make things worse? like, dipper would then be bound to deals that he no longer remembers making or what the terms of them are. i also don't know if a child's mind would recover as well to use of the memory gun.

2. dipper feeling like bill is the only one who doesn't have an idealized version of him is his head... i'm not sure i agree! bill's placed him on a very high pedestal with a very high fall should he get knocked off it... and dipper saying that bill encouraged him to be himself and TAUGHT him how to do that because he's never been able to do that before,,, i'm chewing on glass rn.

3. the entire phone call section,,, stan immediately saying he would keep the twins with him and their parents wanting split custody (a fake out to get the other to back down? did they spend the whole time arguing over who got mabel? neither of them wanting to take dipper...). "they can come up here and tell them themselves" yes please! dipper had his moment with mabel, now he deserves to yell at his parents (as a treat). "hey guys! thanks for coming all the way here 💞💞💞 loved seeing you but i can't wait to never see you again! you don't need to miss my choir recitals anymore because my choir no longer exists! you can go back to just being mabel's parents while i go rule with world with my best friend, the interdimensional demon who's bringing about a new age on earth, you might know him. see you never!"

4. it's such a small thing but ford bending down to talk to dipper so they're on the same page!! he cares so much about these kids and he just met them 😭 him taking the time to reassure dipper that they're family and that he seems himself in dipper!!! him smiling when dipper agrees with stan that he's like ford (though not in the way he expects). that must've been another painful moment for stan!

5. does mabel realize how big of a deal it is that dipper can speak to bill during the day/without being asleep?

6. dipper not seeinging weirdmageddon as the apocalypse because the apocalypse has negative connotation!! weirdmageddon is GOOD to him so it's the bringing about of a new age!

7. dipper's mental form changing to look more like bill's human form instead of pre-gravity falls dipper,,, after he has recognizes how much he's changed,,, right after being compared to ford,,,

8. ford must feel so stupid for showing dipper the rift! i'm assuming dipper didn't just smack the rift out of his hands because bill wants ford on his side willingly? not sure you're going to get that, bill...

9. dipper still caring about stan enough to remind gideon of their deal! and being upset when bud threatens stan! the ghost of dipper-past is haunting dipper's mental house (it's empathy and compassion for people other than bill).

10. dipper letting bill takeover the reins because he's so drained from being involved with the pines,,, him still hoping that someone it's not him and no one noticing,,, NO ONE NOTICING (i'm ripping my hair out)

11. dipper watching the billford reunion,,, guys stop being messy, toxic exs in front of a 12 yo!

12. dipper hiding in the grass/wheat... is the distinction important? both represent different things (wheat as salvation and resurrection while grass can be protection and concealment...). are they a mental representation of the ways ford has tried to protect himself or move on from bill?

13. an eternal night!! stars staying the same even during weirdmageddon!! everyone always being able to see the stars!! is that almost like,, a gift? since they both value the stars so much, and bill wanted to bring the stars to his people, is that almost more of a "benevolent overlord" thing from bill? or really just gifts to themselves?

14. how different that conversation would've gone if dipper hadn't mentioned ford!

15. mabel realizing that he's just been around because he's manipulating ford while ford didn't notice,,, is he that desperate for human connection that he doesn't notice dipper manipulating him? or is dipper just that good at acting?

16. dipper telling mabel it's deals PLURAL. i wonder if she had realized that before, if that's a big thing for her, or if she didn't even notice.

17. "he takes my feelings seriously, unlike you," and "you've only ever dismissed me, mabel" but him still missing her and wanting to be close to her,,, him saying that he doesn't want to only be close with bill but she's giving him no choice,,, i am staring into the sun.

18. dipper comparing mabel to their mom! is that because he sees both of them as "checking out" of their relationship with him? and then mabel immediately saying she doesn't want to think about home and that they don't even know what they're going home to 😭 gravity falls feeling more like home than piedmont has in years 😭😭😭

19. i'm assuming bill saying "pine tree" was him trying to warn him that bill was in earshot? i'm kind of surprised that bill didn't take over during the fight to try to separate them before they could reveal dipper and bill's friendship to ford.

20. did ford hear dipper ask bill to take over and that he didn't want to be there?

26. physical effects of using magic showing up soon,,, roadside attraction being the next episode,,, dipper being changed SO significantly,,, can he even pass through the barrier anymore? i'm imagining him in the rv and just SLAMMING into the barrier at 60 mph not going well. but it would reveal that as a problem to bill before weirdmageddon begins...

27. dipper learning to take pain rather than bill flipping the switch,,, is that because bill wants to it be authentic or because he knows flipping that switch would be too noticeable?

Oh yeah I've been spending all my spare time replying?? Truly I could yap about my own series for days, this has legitimately been so so enjoyable for me!!

1. Yeahhhh, it would not go well, especially with how much more impressionable young minds are. Dipper would have no clue who Bill was, but still have a pact bond with him, still have him able to possess him whenever he wanted... A dark AU to consider.

2. Dipper is sort of aware of this pedestal? But he's determined that he set himself there, not Bill. He has intentionally set himself up to be that way for Bill because of his whole "I can fix him" mentality. He wants Bill to think he can fix him, too (and he kinda does?). But who he is on that pedestal, as far as he's concerned, is still himself.

3. The nature of the custody argument is yet to be revealed... But hooooo boy, can't wait to write that one! We stan Stan as a parent stand in for these kids; he's not perfect but he's better for these kids than their parents are!

4. For as much crap as Ford gets from the fandom, I love my boy! He really does care so much about them. They're just kids, they're twins, and to him, they start as a wholesome reminder of himself and Stan when they were that age. He's protective and caring! He also bends down to their level to talk to them multiple times in canon, and I love that for him! He also is someone I love to whump, so be prepared. :)

5. Not really? She knows his whole relationship with Bill and the way it's escalating is dangerous, but she's not aware of how all Bill works, exactly, so she doesn't know how significant that is.

6. Yes!! They're basically ringing in the New World Order (fitting to use an Illuminati term, no?)

I was reading some interviews about Endgame just bc and

In Infinity War, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) says there’s only one way to beat Thanos and Endgame reveals that way meant Tony’s death. Did you ever consider letting him live and having Captain America/Steve Rogers wield the gauntlet and die instead?

Markus: We considered ways to let Tony live and whether there was a story there. But (dying) was the last thing he needed to do to become a fully-realized hero. There was never a better story than that. As for Captain America, he was willing to kill himself twice in his first movie. So it didn’t seem like a particularly interesting thing to have him do.

or at least he hasn't been willing enough to appease the screenwriters

who knew? certainly not anyone who watched the movies. why don't you two scriptwriters watch the entire MCU (including the movie that you wrote) then get back to me on this :)

Logically I understand why the writers wanted to kill him off (doesn't mean i like it) but they shouldn't erase all the things that he's done over the past 15 years (10 or so years actively superheroing) to try and play his death as the act that established him as a hero. he's been working to protect people at any cost for a decade now this isn't the first time he's done something that includes risking his life for others. His death may be his most heroic act but it was by no means his first.

Yes his death helped to show the end of an era, but do you know what could have shown the start of a new era? Tony deciding to hang up the armor for good now that the threat that had haunted him for years has been vanquished and helping out on the sidelines, never really appearing on screen or anything but definitely there as a support link offering advice and counsels to the new generation of heroes, even if they only show it through text messages or name drops.

Maybe they mean "fully realized" as having reached the height of his heroics (which doesn't really make sense but hey), but "fully realized" normally is used to describe something "complete or total" so apparently Tony wasn't a complete hero until he freaking died even though he demonstrated the willingness to die for others multiple times across the MCU, or this was just badly phrased. Tony is an imperfect person who he pushes past his flaws and tries to make up for his mistakes that's part of his character's appeal. He's not a hero because he's perfect, he's a hero because he's an imperfect human being who recognizes his flaws and pushes past them in order to grow as a person and help others.

Apparently Tony wasn't a "complete" hero so I guess that's why they saw it fit to give him an incomplete happy ending; five years of domestic living overshadowed by heavy losses before he finally got his whole family back together and then had to sacrifice himself to save everyone.

Also for some reason the Steve portion of the response just makes me angrier. Or rather they really went "no we can't kill Steve! he was ready to die TWICE in his first movie! People are probably bored of him sacrificing himself!" and then turn around and kill one of the characters who has been struggling for over a decade and is just trying his best who has nearly died like every other movie he's in in an effort to protect people. (Also I'm pretty sure Tony was willing to die multiple times in Iron Man or at least accepting of his potential fate such as refusing to make weapons for terrorists even under torture and presumably the threat of death, making his primary focus to get Stane away from civilians, even if it meant completely depleting his power supply which is keeping him alive running the numbers and accepting the risk of death due to either falling from an extremely high altitude or a painful death from the shrapnel and finally telling Pepper to hit the button to blow the reactor while he's still on the roof.)

"There never was a better story than that": sure maybe this was the best story in a "make you cry sad and emotional way" but there are SO MANY other avenues and messages that you could send by letting him live. Show the message of being able to work through and overcome trauma and personal issues and live a happy life. Give us the escapist reality most members of the fandom crave; seeing you fave struggle for years than be able to overcome the issues and be happy acting as a beacon of hope for the fans who relate to them. Give Tony the happy ending that he and the audience that stuck by his side for any amount of time be it several months or that grew up with Tony deserved. Just let him be happy please. He's gone through so much, just let him rest (and not in a way that includes him dying)

Depending on the severity he may either try and talk it out then and there as calmly as possibly but usually he’ll decide to step away to try and talk about it later after he’s cooled down and/or thought about it

He does forgive easily - depending on what happened

If it was a stupid spat, yes

But if he was betrayed, like cheated on/ lied to BIG TIME, he would be very hurt but may forgive

He can sometimes get down on himself if he feels he’s hurt you, even minerly, so sometimes you need to check on him and reassure him he’s fine

H onesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?

As much as possible

However bc of his job it can be hard

Hates lying to you, especially bc he kind lived a huge lie before when he was a scout

Honestly, he gets a little nauseous when he needs to lie to you

He does, to the best of his ability, be honest with you about his feelings and such - tho it can be pretty hard

J ealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?

Um yes and no

Sometimes, especially in the beginning, he isn’t too sure about himself and feels that you’re too good for him and the “jealousy” can come out in a you ‘might find someone better’ kind of way

Tho if he’s secure in the relationship, not really

It’d be more protective than anything

He would deal with it usually with a convo, sometimes forces himself even tho slightly embarrassed to bring it up

He may casually pull you near to show others you’re with him and other small gestures like that

Tries not to be aggressive, even tho sometimes it can upset him - not at you tho

P DA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag about their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

When in in public Reiner will usually hold your hand or put an arm around your shoulder

Will give you a kiss on the cheek/forehead or a quick kiss on the lips

But nothing too intimate out in public/ around others

He does tell his mother and close friends about you but doesn’t feel it necessary for people he doesn’t know much to know about his personal relationships

While drunk with the other warriors Reiner has been one to talk about you and how you’re too good for him and how much he loves you yadda yadda

(side note: idk about you but the idea of a drunk Reiner is so cute and him being all lovey and sweet, slurring his praises and just being a messy gentleman that would trip over his own feet to open the door for you.)

W ild Card - A random. Fluff Headcanon.

One day you and Reiner were going for a walk on a trail through the forest

He had the whole day free and wanted to spend it alone with you. So what better than on a little stroll with a backpack holding some food and a blanket to find a spot of set up a picnic

Everything was going well till you ended up tripping on a rock and twisted your ankle

Reiner quickly rushed over to you to make sure you’re okay.

“Are you able to still walk?” He asked but the sour look on your face gave him his answer and without saying another word he swiftly picked you up bridal style and continued walking.

You tried to protest but he just shook you off. “We aren’t far from where I was taking you. Just relax, you should stay off your ankle for a little while anyway.”

Submitting to his will you rested your head on his shoulder, holding him around his neck. You were watching the blue sky for another silent 5 minutes before Reiner spoke up again. “Here we are.”

Looking forward you saw a clearing of trees with a small pond of sorts surrounded by rocks and grass, white flowers littered about. It was so serene and felt like you stepped into another world together.

He put you down on a smooth rock before laying out the blanket. Kneeling before you he picked up your sore ankle. 

“Does it hurt when I do this?” He asked, as he began to gently twist your ankle side to side. You sucked in through your teeth,

“A little.” You responded. It was sore but still tolerable. He furrowed his brow and dug through the sake he brought and pulled out what looked to be a rectangular cloth napkin.

Turning back to you he asked, “May I?” Nodding towards your shoe, you nodded back. He slowly undid and removed your shoe and examined your ankle for a moment before picking the cloth up and began to wrap it around your foot and ankle to make a temporary support wrap.

“That’s not too tight is it?” He asked after you were all bandaged up. You shook your head with a smile. 

“Good.” He smiled back then leaned down and placed a soft kiss on your wrapped ankle.

Subcon Forest Analysis

Hi everyone I'm here to spill my aggressive overflowing thoughts on Subcon Forest and what it represents because it's been driving me insane since I finished the Sleepy Subcon time rift. Okay let's go. Obvious spoilers for AHIT ahead so proceed with caution.

This is also very, very long.

Disclaimer/warning: I will be discussing abusive/unhealthy relationships in this analysis. I mean. Vanessa. Come on. Also, there is a section on the nooses, and that delves, of course, into mentions of suicide. It will be sectioned off and easily skipped, but if you'd rather be safe and skip the entire post, that's completely understandable! Please stay safe. <3

Alright. Main point to be had here:

Subcon Forest is a giant extended metaphor for Snatcher's mind and character.

You all get to now listen to me spout nonsense about metaphors and symbolism because I'm a sucker for analysis and I'm given an opportunity to go ham. So perish.

The Ice

Let's start with the most obvious and most glaring thing in Subcon. The ice. It's everywhere. Not just outside Vanessa's manor, either; no, it's throughout the village, too. Shows up in the well and in random locations sprinkled about. When it comes to literal plot, we know that ice is just what lingers after Vanessa's wintery curse on Subcon. But going deeper and analyzing the meaning behind it?

Well, let's look at this from the perspective I've suggested. Subcon Forest being an extended metaphor for Snatcher's mind and character. A symbol for Vanessa then litters his mind, enough where it's certainly noticeable at first but blends in more easily once more of Subcon is unlocked to Hat Kid. This is clearly meant to be his lingering trauma, whether or not he wants to acknowledge it. Which he doesn't, as he never mentions it directly in his forest (that I can recall). Her influence plagues him, as to be expected with the traumatic experiences he went through with her. Breaking the ice is something Hat Kid must do in order to fulfill the wishes of the Fire Spirits (another subject I'll get into shortly), which, if self-indulgently playing with the found family idea, could mean that Hat Kid is helping him heal; if indirectly. Even if fulfilling the Fire Spirits' wish to die is... counterproductive, in that measure, which I'm now getting ahead of myself so hold on a sec!!

Vanessa. Ice. Everywhere. Traces of it all over his forest. That's the effects of an abusive relationship! Especially in a worst-case scenario where... yknow! One party in the relationship dies! So of course ice would be everywhere.

In and of itself, ice is a common symbol in literature and other forms of media. In this case, it's presented as an antagonistic force; emphasis is placed upon freezing and the harm that comes with it. The cold is unwelcoming, threatening, merciless. Snow can act as an insulating force, at least, but ice cannot. It can only make things colder.

A slight stretch: Seeing as this game deals a lot with time shenaniganry, I'm not sure if it'd be too out of left field to connect "freezing" with the theme of time. Yknow. Frozen in time. Both parties here, Snatcher and Vanessa, would be in this frozen state. One largely repressing it and never fully moving on, and the other doomed to her isolation ever since the event in question. They never moved past that moment after the Prince and florist's interaction.

The Fire Spirits (& the Portraits)

I'll put a slight warning here for suicidal ideation, if only because... it's the Fire Spirits we're talking about. It's not as grossly in-detail as the noose discussion will be, though, so make of that what you will.

To me, the Fire Spirits are a very interesting case. After all, they're fire. They're a direct contrast to the ice, thus being the only thing we're shown that could potentially melt it. The Fire Spirits, in my opinion, represent hope or a strength to continue. A strength to move on after troubles of the past.

...And that hope wants to die.

The Fire Spirits wish to burn out, to leave this mortal coil and abandon the forest to the cold. They make no effort to melt the ice, they simply dance, blissfully ignorant towards their surroundings. This being a metaphor for Snatcher's own hope for moving on is made all the more obvious by the fact he wants them gone. The first contract is to kill the Fire Spirits, to kill the hope. Perhaps he believes that sort of thing to be fruitless or naïve, so it only clutters his mind or has him foolishly optimistic at points. So, get rid of it. And the hope is happy to oblige.

(That, or their willingness to leave the forest to its own suffering and not aid in the ice's thaw angers him. Besides the whole "bark bark growl I can't get to parts of my forest because of them!!" which... also could represent a naïve hope clouding his judgement, not allowing him to see a bigger picture. But hope can't all be lost if one wants to move forward...)

A little side-tangent now on the portraits! And it's another slight stretch but the idea is in my head and I can't let it go. Portraits are another common symbol, usually being a physical representation of a memory or idea. For our purposes, let's say they're memories. I know in canon they appear to just hold souls captive or something but for now we're just Ignoring That(tm). The Fire Spirits have to burn the portraits to disappear. See where I'm going with this, maybe?

Instead of handling bad memories (or perhaps memories of the past in general) in any healthy manner, Snatcher chooses to forget/repress them, which just allows his hope to progressively die out.

I'm really hoping this is making sense because it makes a lot of sense to me but I might be insane rn

The Fact that this is a Forest

Forest symbolism breakdown! What's a forest usually mean in literature? "Traditionally, the forest has come to represent being lost, exploration and potential danger as well as mystery and 'other worldliness'." Okay. Yeah. Fair enough. That certainly works with the whole aesthetic we've got going on. Wood usually is life, growth and strength. But the trees of subcon are all dead. So what about that? It stands for death, big whoop, very spooky, we know Snatcher's dead and so are the children, yadda yadda wowie wowie. But. :) The trees in Subcon look a lot like trees that were scorched in a forest fire. Don't believe me?

(You could also argue they're just regular marsh/swamp trees bUT SSHHSUUHSH HANG ON HEAR ME OUT LOOK LOOK,)

What I believe to have happened was a controlled fire to rid the forest of the majority of its ice and snow. Likely done by Snatcher. It leaves behind a very desolate, depressing, barren scene... but. What else do dead/burnt trees symbolize? Rebirth. After all, controlled fires happen to make way for new trees to take the place of old ones. Some trees only drop seeds in fires/hot temperatures, so new ones take root and begin anew. Weird. It's almost like... I dunno. Snatcher was given some sorta second chance, given he's not just a corpse in Vanessa's cellar. So were the subconites. Another life given then by Snatcher. All connected I tell ya!!

Generally, aside from that, forests have many connotations. Mystery, isolation, claustrophobia; a place to dwell on regrets, or the past; to worry over one's future; to seek escape from or escape inside of... hmgmrnmm!

The Nooses

The t/w is given at the top and another cut-off point will follow the bottom of this, for those that would like to skip. This will delve into talk of suicide and abusive tactics used by abusers. Please don't read if it will upset you or make you feel unsafe!!!

Personally, I cannot stand the nooses, but that's just due to my own triggers. Were there a way to hide those from the game or replace the damned talking ones with anything else. I would take it. In a heartbeat. But I can still appreciate the potential analysis to be had with them. So now i'm gonna talk about it despite how uncomfortable it will make me to do so. yEa

So, what about 'em? There are three types of nooses seen in Subcon. At least that I remember but I didn't really go looking for them. Empty ones, ones containing empty subconites, and the talking ones.

Nooses in general obviously can hint towards suicidal thoughts or behaviors of the characters that interact with them. If saying Subcon is Snatcher's mind, it could suggest that he suffered from some sort of suicidal thoughts in life (or currently, if second death is possible... or if he never truly died... or maybe he's trying to figure that out...which has given me... a separate idea...uh oh). But. And hear me out. Different perspective.

A talking noose. I hate them with a fiery passion that is unmatched. But think of the packed symbolism of a noose that talks. And think more about what it says. "I wouldn't mind being strapped around a cute neck like yours." "Be careful now, I don't want to see you meet a miserable end anywhere, but with me." Oddly, a lot of what the noose says seems almost... endearing? One could argue it's a way of luring someone to put it around their necks, which in and of itself is a whole lot to unpack when it comes to suicidal thoughts beckoning one forward; painting itself as something romantic, almost. But. Here's a wild idea, now. What if the nooses, at least the talking ones, are another symbol for Vanessa?

They're tinted blue, after all. While Vanessa's scheme is more red, one could argue two things: One, ice. Blue. Ice. yeah. Or two, the fact that Snatcher's scheme is more purple. Blue and red... make... purple. So, for all we know, Snatcher's current state was a compound effort between suicidal thoughts and Vanessa's treatment of him. Perhaps he even found a way to put himself out of his misery before freezing/starving to death. (I know he has dialogue that argues against that, but... are we certain Snatcher would be the kind to admit suicide over freezing to death?... I don't think so.)

At any rate, a common threat by those in "control" of an abusive relationship is that of killing themselves should the other person not do as they desire. It's a cruel form of emotional manipulation to get their way, worse off if the other party is an empathetic individual. As a person who has been the empathetic individual in relationships like this... I would know. I've been here, unfortunately So, it's not completely out of the question to say Vanessa could've used some tactic like that, even before the whole... cellar ordeal. Did she? I dunno. I'm tossing ideas around. But if she did, the threats of such would sit around in the Prince's mind easily. Even if she has a reputation of not going through with it. It doesn't matter. That shit sticks with you forever, that scare, the potential of it ever being true, is horrifying and it ruins you. I'm projecting, Squirtle.

Still. A noose cannot hang itself. It has to have a victim.

Misc. Ideas

- The spiders: Aside from the usual things spiders can be chalked up to symbolizing - toxicity, alluring danger, just... general pain - I like the potential wordplay that can happen here. Yknow. A black widow. Say the Prince and Vanessa were married when one died. What would that leave Vanessa? A widow. ...She's red and black, too. Yknow. Like a black widow. HA wordplay is fun isn't it?

- Snatcher's tree: Love this place, love sitting in here. But not the point! The inside of Snatcher's tree is such a harsh juxtaposition to the rest of Subcon that it kinda throws ya off guard. After all, the dark, purples and blues then contrasted with the bright warm colors of the inside. Even the music switches over. The thorns outside aren't present indoors. Ohh yeah this is gonna be on the nose as hell but the Tree(tm) is 100% representing Snatcher's appearance/put-on personality vs. his truer nature. Spooky outside with thorns, foreboding, unwelcoming. Then the more comfortable interior. VULnerable. Have I even mentioned that the tree is HOLLOW I mean COME ON. The sturdiness of that tree? Nonexistent. He's not a sturdy guy at all no matter how he fronts

- Intrusions are unwelcome: Snatcher does not like the fact that Hat Kid sticks around in his forest. His personal space. His mind. In fact he tries desperately to get rid of her after their fight, not wanting her presence in his forest at all. He has no problem providing more contracts later on with the Death Wish thing, and he finds great entertainment in messing around with Hat Kid, so it's not just a weird sudden hatred he has for her; it's the fact that. After she's finished being useful, he no longer wants her around, lest she find some things she shouldn't find. Now he's just uncomfortable with her in his personal boundaries. Could just be a denial that she's helped him heal (breaking ice, stealing from Vanessa, being something interesting for his kids to interact with) or just not really wanting a child to get wrapped up in. All that. Most likely the former. Considering the amount of joke-hints he drops regarding his background during his Death Wish dialogue. I see you funny man, making jokes out of your trauma as a coping mechanism. Punts him

Thank you for writing this down. I came here to deal with my own heartbrokenness, and I DO have hope that we still have enough time in the last two episodes (the very last being 2 hours long special one if I remember well) to figure everything out. And it made me SO pissed that I had to see people complain because one, they didn't even watch the show, and two, they can't read human emotions. Dean was shocked, devastated, broken, he was confessed something so pure and honest no-one, NO-ONE EVER has told him before. And he can't deal with his feelings, he only just begun to open up about them and try to deal with them, IN THE LAST DAMN SEASON, and something he might have been pressing down SO DEEP was dropped on his head (we don't know for sure yet, but this is my guess), he was scared, it was meant as a goodbye, and just when he thought he will lose everything - he lost Cas. Again. Mind you. And for good, this time. He thinks. Give the man a damn break. And his Cas back. I have Big Hopes for Jack regarding this matter. Also couldn't be the Empty one and the same with Chaos (Greek) and therefore more ancient than anything? The explosion Jack caused that could have destroyed Chuck AND Amara on the spot only made them furious because he was being loud. Could Chuck and Amara (Light and Darkness) be the Empty's children? Did the Empty let them go so they can finally sleep because the two are opposites and would always argue, can they all have a happy family reunion and all vanish for good they make my boys suffer too much.
