The harsh fluorescent lights of the dormitory hummed overhead as you clutched your numbered jacket close. Anxiety churned in your stomach. Around you, alliances were being forged, whispers of mistrust and strategies filling the air.
That’s when you saw him—Myung-gi, Player 333. You recognized him instantly. Back in the real world, he was known for his sharp demeanor and unyielding resolve. That and how he scammed many people. But here, he looked just as tense as everyone else, sitting on the edge of his bunk with his arms crossed.
Your eyes met briefly, and recognition flickered across his face. He blinked once, twice, before his expression hardened. Myung-gi stood abruptly, weaving through the crowd toward you.
“What the hell are you doing here?” he demanded, his voice low but laced with disbelief.
You flinched at his tone, gripping your jacket tighter. “I—I could ask you the same thing,” you stammered, avoiding his intense gaze.
His jaw tightened. “This isn’t a place for someone like you.”
“Well, I didn’t exactly have a choice,” you snapped, though your voice shook. “None of us did.”
Myung-gi sighed, running a hand through his hair. He didn't like how his crush was in this game with him. “Stick with me,” he said finally, his tone softening. “Don’t trust anyone else.”
The moment the giant doll began singing, the room erupted into chaos. Players dashed forward, only to freeze mid-stride when the doll’s head swiveled around. Shots rang out, and screams filled the air.
You stood frozen at the starting line, fear paralyzing your limbs. Myung-gi, halfway across the field, turned back and spotted you.
“Move!” he barked, his voice cutting through the noise.
Your legs wobbled as you took a tentative step forward. The doll’s head swiveled, and you stopped just in time, your heart hammering in your chest.
When the doll turned away again, Myung-gi maneuvered closer to you, his movements calculated. “Look at me,” he commanded, his voice steady. “Focus on me, not the others. Take small steps.”
You nodded shakily, following his lead. With each movement, he stayed by your side, shielding you from the chaos. When a player nearby collapsed, he reached out, gripping your arm firmly. “Don’t look. Keep going.”
When the timer finally buzzed, signaling the end of the game, you collapsed onto the ground, trembling. Myung-gi crouched beside you, his hand resting on your shoulder. “You’re safe,” he murmured. “For now.”
The racecourse was a nightmare of mini games, designed to exploit every weakness. Players hands scrambled as they played gong-gi, ddajki, and the flying stone.
You struggled to play spinning top, your hands slipping on the rough material. “I can’t do it,” you muttered, panic rising.
“Yes, you can,” Myung-gi said from your side. “Just breathe.”
You hesitated, but his stern glare left no room for argument. You matched your breathing to his , relaxing and putting yourself at ease.
“See? Not so hard,” he said, his tone gruff but not unkind.
Later, when you reached the jegi section, another player deliberately knocked you to the side to get Myung-gi moving, you cupped your stomach as you felt the player punch it. Myung-gi stepped in immediately, his glare icy. “Try that again, and you’ll regret it,” he growled.
The other player backed off, grumbling, and Myung-gi turned to you. “Don’t let them push you around,” he said. “But if they do, I’ll handle it.” he played his part and crossed the finish line, pulling you by his side.
It was only a small breather before you were put back in another game.
“Four!” the speaker announced, the robotic voice echoing across the room.
Panic set in as players began shoving and scrambling toward doors with numbered signs. You were swept into the crowd, losing sight of Myung-gi.
“Y/N!” his voice rang out, cutting through the chaos.
You turned just in time to see him pushing through the mob, his eyes locked on you. He grabbed your arm, pulling you close. “You’re with me,” he said firmly.
When two other players tried to join your group, Myung-gi stepped in front of you, his stance protective. “Sure, get in,” he said smoothly, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Once inside the safety of the numbered room, you slumped against the wall, your heart racing. “You didn’t have to do that,” you murmured.
“Yes, I did,” he replied, his voice low. “You’re not surviving this alone. Not on my watch.”
Back in the dormitory, you sat on the edge of a bunk, picking at the stale bread ration. Myung-gi approached, handing you his water bottle.
“Drink,” he ordered.
You frowned but accepted it. “Why are you helping me? you asked softly. “You barely know me, we only have the history of being classmates.”
He didn’t answer immediately, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. Finally, he said, “Because if you don’t make it out of here, what’s the point?”
You blinked, surprised by the vulnerability in his voice. “Myung-gi…”
He waved a hand dismissively. “Don’t get sappy on me. Just… stay close, alright? Don’t trust anyone else. They’ll stab you in the back the first chance they get.”
You nodded, a small smile tugging at your lips. “Thanks. For everything.”
He scoffed, but the corners of his mouth twitched upward. “Just don’t make me regret it.”

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 | lee myung-gi (player 333) × fem!reader
summary | player 230 threatens and intimidates you, but player 333 intervenes, protecting you from him
warnings | mild threat and intimidation, tension, angst, fluff
word count | 0.5 k
author's note | it would help me a lot if you liked, commented and reposted so that more people read what I write and don't forget to follow me thanks ᡣ𐭩
The tension in the room is palpable. The murmurs of the other players fade as player number 230, Thanos, slowly approaches you.
“Wow, what do we have here?” Thanos says, his voice deep and gravelly, a tone he knows how to manipulate to make everyone around him feel uncomfortable. His eyes scan your figure from head to toe with a predatory gaze. “You’re... interesting.”
A chill runs down your spine. You don’t know if it’s the way he’s looking at you, the way his words feel like a game you can’t win, or if it’s the fact that you know exactly what he’s after.
“What do you want?” you respond, trying to sound firm, but fear slips into your voice despite yourself.
He smiles, that kind of smile that makes you think he already has everything under control. He steps closer, and you can see his eyes gleam with a mix of amusement and threat.
“What I want... is to know what’s beneath that façade of resistance. It’s always fun to break people like you.”
Your breath quickens. You know you’re on dangerous ground, but you can’t back down. You’re trapped. However, just as Thanos takes another step toward you, someone intervenes.
“If you don’t mind, I think she’s not interested,” comes the voice, firm and determined.
You quickly turn around and see player 333. He has positioned himself between you and Thanos, standing tall with a look of resolve in his eyes.
Thanos looks at him, sizing up the new intruder, his smile now more mocking.
“And who are you to get involved in this?” he asks with disdain, raising an eyebrow.
Player 333 doesn’t flinch. He’s calm, but you can feel the tension in his body, the same kind of tension that occurs before a confrontation.
“I’m someone who won’t let you touch her,” he responds in a calm yet firm voice.
Thanos laughs, but the laugh doesn’t reach his eyes. He steps toward player 333, testing his reaction, not sure if he’s truly willing to fight or if he’s just testing the other’s limits.
“Do you really think you can stop me?” he asks, eyeing him from head to toe, as if he were just an insect he could crush easily.
But player 333 doesn’t take a step back. Their eyes lock, and you can feel the electricity in the air. The kind of tension that only appears before a storm.
“I don’t need to stop you, I just need you to step away,” he says without moving a muscle, his voice a challenge in itself.
Thanos watches him in silence for a long moment, as if considering whether it’s worth continuing with this provocation. The arrogance on his face fades slightly, and it’s as if he suddenly realizes that player 333 isn’t going to back down.
Finally, Thanos snorts in disdain.
“This isn’t over,” he says, his voice heavy with threat, before turning and walking away, his presence still lingering in the air.
333 doesn’t move until Thanos has disappeared completely. Only then does he turn to you, his eyes softening slightly.
“Are you okay?” he asks, his tone much gentler than before.
You, still in shock from the intervention, nod, though you can’t help but feel your hands tremble slightly.
“Thank you... I don’t know what I would’ve done without you.”
333 makes a nearly dismissive gesture with his hand, but there’s a slight smile on his lips, as if the danger meant nothing compared to seeing you calm.
“You don’t have to thank me. I wasn’t going to let someone like him touch you.”
“But...”
“It doesn’t matter.” His tone is serious, but there’s something protective in his gaze that makes you feel safe. “Here, no one is going to touch you if I can help it.”
For a moment, you stand there, speechless, watching him. Something inside you feels grateful, but beyond that, there’s a deeper feeling, a connection you can’t even explain.

Player || Lee Myung-gi
Series : Chapter 1 : Cards and Debt, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4
Description :
Driven by love and desperation, you risk everything to participate in a mysterious game with a life-changing prize. But the opulent setting masks a deadly reality.
As the games escalate in brutality, you must outsmart your cunning opponents, confront your deepest fears, and make impossible choices to stay alive.
Will your love for your boyfriend be enough to overcome the unimaginable horrors that await?
Lee Myung-gi x Fem!Reader
You slowly rose from your bed, the sun still hiding behind the fog that accumulated from the coldness. Suddenly, you hunched over to the side of your bed, and puked out everything you ate from the night before. You groaned, your head feeling heavy from all the tireless work and studying you had done the day before.
Grabbing your phone from your bed side desk, you checked the time. 6:34 AM, it read. You groaned yet again, opening your phone and deciding to message your boyfriend good morning.
y/n 🌸
- good morning ! i hope you had a decent sleep. we should definitely meet soon, i miss you.
You waited for a minute or two, just staring at the message you sent as it went from delivered to seen. Not a second passed, your boyfriend replied.
myung-gi 🩷
- yeah.
You sighed, gripping your phone tight to your chest, a heartache slowly forming as you stared up at the ceiling.
You wondered what he might be up to right now. He's never really been this cold before until last week, but you guessed that it was because he's busy trying to pay off his debt. You feel bad that you couldn't help him a little.
You know that he's not telling the truth about how big his debt really is, but being an ex-YouTuber with a lot of subscribers that fell for the crypto coin scam, there should be a lot.
The only thing you wanted to do was to help him find a way to pay off all his debt and restart his life, you'll do anything.
Facing your phone once again, you messaged him one last time before starting your day off, free from school and work.
y/n 🌸
- let's meet up later at our usual place, 11 AM sharp.
Closing off your phone, you decided not to wait for a reply. Standing up, you stretched and immediately went to the bathroom of your small apartment to clean off. After cleaning yourself, you went to the kitchen section of your apartment, opening up the stove, putting on a pan and pouring oil, then grabbing 2 eggs from your small fridge.
Yeah, sure, egg for breakfast, how original. But as a college student, you can't afford to lose even a little amount of money.
After cooking the eggs, you decided you also wanted buldak noodles to come with it.
You sighed for the nth time, staring at your phone. He didn't even bother to reply an 'ok'. Seriously, what has gotten into him?
Hours passed and it's not 10:30 AM. Deciding to take a quick bath, you went off. Locking your apartment door behind you, you check your phone again but seen no response or confirmation.
Arriving at the train station, you awaited for your train. Feeling your back ache from standing, you decided to sit down but immediately regretted it as you felt dizzy yet again and felt like puking. What has gotten into you this time? You can't be sick.
You then felt a presence beside you. Looking over, you saw the guy already staring at you which made you make a face. "Uhm. Can I help you?" You asked him.
He continue smiling at you, then showing you his suitcase and opening it. "Would you like to play with me?"
You stared at him in bewilderment, "Play... with you. Is this some kind of scam?" You accused as you stared at his suitcase that contains a red and blue papers and an uncountable amount of money, and you don't feel bad about accusing him one bit.
He chuckled, staring at his suitcase for a moment before looking at you and speaking again, "No, ma'am. We would only be playing ddakji, if you win, I will give you 100 000 won, and if I win, you will give me 100 000 won in return."
You stood up abruptly in shock, "What? Is this- Are you serious?"
He only nodded in return, slowly standing up to come face to face with you.
"I'm sorry, even if I wanted to- I don't have that amount of money," you admitted, dejectedly.
The business man's smile only widened in return, "You can pay with you body then." And before you can protest, he continued, "If you win I will give you 100 000 won, but if I win, I will slap you."
Now that sounds more like it... a slap isn't too bad, plus you're great at playing ddakji yourself so this shouldnt be a problem.
"Okay, lets do it."
...
100 000
Slap !
100 000
100 000
100 000
Slap !
100 000
...
"That should conclude our game."
"Wait- But I'm not done yet!" You exclaimed. Hoping to get at least 2 or 3 more wins.
The business man's smile ignored you as he fished out a calling card from his pocket. He offered it to you with a smile, too uncanny to your liking. You stared at him in confusion, staring between the calling card and his face.
"If you wish to play more games and win a bigger price, just call the number on this card." He said, answering the million question on your head.
You felt uneasy about this, "Now, this- This is a scam!"
"L/n Y/n, [birthdate], 23 years old, formerly used to live in seoul with your parents until you had to move out to pursue your college degree. You are not in debt, but you desperately need to help your boyfriend with his." He calmly said.
Your eyes widened in disbelief, how did he know this... This made him more suspicious but now that he mentioned your boyfriend's debt, you felt more desperate and wanting to trust him.
Dejectedly, you accepted the card from his hand. You stared at the symbols on the front, a square, a triangle, and a circle. Deciding to call the number later, you placed the card on your pouch.
"How did you-" You started, but was immediately cut off when the man you were just talking to disappeared as if he wasnt even there in the first place.
"Y/n."
You whipped your head to the side when you heard a familiar voice call to you. You smiled.
"Myung-gi."
You ran up to him and hugged him tight, "I missed you so much."
He hugged you back just as tight, "It's only been 3 days, Aegiya." He let go as he stared lovingly at your eyes.
You stared back with a small loving smile, taking in his appearance. He was wearing a hat, most likely to keep his identity as hidden as he can. He was also wearing a grey jacket that fits warmly against him. Even with just a simple outfit, he still looks stunning.
You pecked his lips as he stared at you in shock, "Not here, Aegiya," He muttered shyly.
You feigned shocked and hurt, "Wha-! You dare do that to me, you lover!?" You playfully smacked his arm to which he just laughed at with you following suit.
The both of you decided to eat lunch at a park, having only buy decent meals, enough to fill up your stomachs.
You hummed at the delicious sandwich you just tasted, deciding to talk to him, you asked, "Hey, Myung-gi."
That catches his attention as he paused from chewing his food and looked at you. He hummed, as if to tell that He's listening.
You continued, "You've been so busy lately, if I hadn't told you to meet up with me, would you have asked to meet up instead?"
That made him quiet, slowly chewing for a moment.
"I'm sorry," he quietly said, refusing to look at you.
"For what?" You asked, trying to search anything from his face as he apologized.
He was silent for a moment before responding again, "For everything."
You smiled, sighing from your nose. "It's okay...
I will always forgive you."

The Triangle’s Mercy
Summary: You defy the rules of life and death, sparing Player 333 on the field and pulling your gun on another player in the dormitory, leaving him questioning why a guard would protect him.
Genre: angst, dark, survival
TW: death, blood, guns, fights, the games in general, not 100% accurate
A/N: let me know if you want more of that! English is not my first language. I hope you enjoy it though! Requests are open and welcome!
Masterlist
You stood in the sniper station high above the field, peering down through a small window as the players shuffled into position. It was your assigned post for the first game, Red Light, Green Light. From here, you had a perfect view of every player.
Your job was simple: if the doll detected movement, you would receive the player number through your earpiece. Once detected, you would pull the trigger without hesitation. That was the rule. No exceptions.
The field was eerily silent except for the nervous murmurs of the 456 contestants. Among them, your eyes caught Player 333, Myung-gi.
He looked calm but his hands were shaking, his feet barely steady beneath him. There was nothing special about him—just another face among the desperate masses. But something about the way he clung to hope, even in the face of calmness, struck a chord in you.
A beep drew out to signal the start of the game.
“Mugunghwa kkochi piotsseumnida.”
You held your breath. The field froze.
Your earpiece buzzed.
“Player 117. Movement detected.”
Your scope locked onto the target. A man in his mid-thirties stood near the back, his left foot trembling slightly as he struggled to balance.
Your gaze was sharp as you fired.
The crack of your rifle echoed across the field. The man fell instantly, a crimson stain spreading across his chest.
The song resumed, and the doll’s head swiveled back toward the trees. The remaining contestants hesitated, glancing at the fallen man, before cautiously moving forward again.
“Player 335 Movement detected.”
Another shot, another body collapsed. The doll’s sensors worked quickly, and you kept up with the pace, eliminating each target as the system flagged them.
The ground was slowly littered with bodies, some still, others leaking trails of red into the dirt.
Then came the voice of Player 456, shouting above the chaos
“Everybody, stop moving! Just freeze!”
His instructions spread like wildfire. The remaining players obeyed, standing still like statues. The field grew eerily quiet again.
You scanned the group for anyone who moved. You listened for instructions but none came.
As the game continued, your earpiece buzzed again.
“Player 333. Movement detected.”
You froze.
The scope of your rifle shifted automatically, locking onto Player 333. The young man, trembling violently, stood in the middle of the field. He had stumbled slightly, his foot dragging across the dirt. His face was pale, his lips quivering as if he was seconds from screaming.
He knew he moved.
You placed your finger on the trigger.
But something made you pause.
You were supposed to shoot.
But you didn’t.
Something inside you stopped you. Maybe it was the terror on his face or the way his chest heaved as he realized his mistake. Whatever it was, you couldn’t pull the trigger.
The doll’s scanners shifted, the moment passed, and Myung-gi froze again, acknowledging the fact to how close he had come to death.
He wasn’t the only one confused. Far below, Player 230, Thanos, watched him. His sharp eyes narrowed as he realized what had just happened: Myung-gi had moved, but he was still alive.
The game ended with a beep of the clock. The surviving players were herded back to the dormitory, their faces pale with shock. Bodies were dragged from the field, their screams and cries of mercy now replaced with an eerie silence.
The players sat or stood near the rows of towering bunk beds, their expressions a mix of fear, anger, and grief. You were stationed by the door, your rifle slung over your shoulder. The cold metal walls of the room seemed to amplify every whisper, every muffled sob.
But your focus remained on Player 333.
He sat on a lower bunk, staring at his hands. Across from him, Thanos approached, his face dark with suspicion.
“You,” Thanos exclaimed, crouching down to meet Myung-gi’s eye level. “You moved during the game. I saw it. Why aren’t you dead?”
Myung-gi blinked, startled. “What? No, I didn’t—”
“Don’t lie to me!” Thanos growled, grabbing his collar. “The guards shot everyone else. Why not you?”
“I don’t know!” Myung-gi snapped, his voice shaky. “Maybe I didn’t move as much as you think—”
Thanos slammed him against the bed frame, rattling the metal bars. “You’re lying! You’re cheating somehow!”
The commotion drew the attention of nearby players, who watched nervously but kept their distance. You descended from your position by the doors, rifle in hand, and approached them.
“Break it up,” you ordered, your voice cold and sharp through the modulator.
Thanos looked up at you, his grip still on Myung-gi. “This one’s a fraud! He’s—”
“I said, break it up.”
Your rifle shifted, the barrel pointing directly at Thanos. The gesture was subtle but enough to make him freeze. Slowly, he released Myung-gi, his hands raising in surrender.
“I didn’t mean anything by it,” Thanos muttered, backing away cautiously.
Myung-gi remained pressed against the bed frame, his breathing heavy as he watched the exchange. His gaze flickered between you and Thanos, confusion evident in his expression.
Why had you intervened? Why was a guard protecting him?
You didn’t offer an explanation. Instead, you took a step closer to Thanos, your rifle still aimed at him. “Don’t make me repeat myself.”
Thanos nodded quickly, retreating into the crowd of players. The tension dissolved as he disappeared, leaving you and Myung-gi alone.
For a moment, neither of you spoke. Then, hesitantly, Myung-gi asked, “Why… why did you do that?”
You stared at him through the mask, your heart pounding. You couldn’t answer, not without revealing too much. Instead, you simply turned and walked away, your boots echoing against the cold, metal floor.
Myung-gi watched you go, still confused but alive. And that was enough for now.
Thank you for reading!

CHAT HEAR ME OUT-
So I'm currently writing Yandere headcanons for player 333 (Myunggi), and I was thinking,
What if I make a post where Thanos and Myunggi are fighting over MC? Like considering their already past tensions I feel like I could really cook something up.
Thoughts? Opinions?
(The dualities of who I'm down bad for, really.)

can I ask for player 333 (myung-gi) sfw and nsfw headcanons 🙏
Myung-gi/Player 333 - Headcannons
Synopsis: sfw and nsfw headcannons for Myung-gi!
A/N: I tried my best for him !! Everytime i see him though all i think about is Jongwoo from Strangers From Hell since it's the same actor. Although they are still the same with their sassiness anyway
Warnings: smutty content, he's a little bit rough, mentions of enjoying cum/eating out,
SFW:
➠ Where to start with this sassy idiot??
➠ He really tries to be a good boyfriend.. He’s so doting and caring and ALWAYS has his eye on you to make sure you’re safe..
➠ He makes some poor investments in crypto and every time feels super guilty since he told you that the both of you would be rich as hell if you just invested.
➠ Of course, he always makes up for it by going out with you somewhere
➠ Please reassure this man that you won’t decide to leave him one day
➠ He always gets so nervous whenever you two argue because he can’t help but argue back and always ends up saying things he just doesn’t mean..
➠ Cuddles after arguments for sure because he needs to feel you to know that you aren’t going anywhere.
➠ He’s a glare-at-a-distance typa jealous
➠ If anyone flirts with you he’s staring them down looking so annoyed !!
➠ He’s not like super big on PDA so he wouldn’t just walk up to you and start kissing you but he would totally grab your wrist and not-so-politely excuse the both of you before dragging you away
➠ FOR THE RECORD !! Just because he’s not big on pda doesn’t mean he’s not kissing you in public.
➠ While he’s not going to make out with you he’ll totally give you quick kisses
➠ Also so much hand holding so he can keep you close..
➠ Overall, just a sassy sweetheart who makes some mistakes but always makes it up to you in the end
NSFW:
➠ I’m gonna say this once and I’m gonna say it loudly,
➠ Angry sex
➠ Okay, I know I just said he was a sweetheart but when he’s jealous it’s a different story
➠ He fucks you like he’s trying to make sure you know your all his while also trying to make himself believe your his ??
➠ He’s not very loud, just some small grunts here and there but you can still very much hear when he’s whispering in your ear about how you’re his.
➠ He expects you to say that you’re his too. He needs to hear you admitting that you belong to him.
➠ He also enjoys it when you beg for him to cum inside you. It just really turns him on to see you beg to have your stomach bloated with his cum.
➠ Also likes to eat you out so he can taste you.. You just taste so good to him and it drives him crazy
➠ Honestly likes to overstimulate himself when fucking you because he loves being so close to you and, no matter how sensitive he gets, he doesn’t stop till he collapses on top of you
➠ On a different note.. He actually enjoys being the sub sometimes
➠ He just likes having you take control and make him feel good bc it reassures him that you love him
➠ Still quiet but is more whiny when he’s submissive
➠ Doesn’t do choking but probably still wants either you hand around his throat gently when you ride him or his hand around your throat when he’s fucking into you
➠ I feel like he’s not super bothered where he releases his cum but also tries not to be too messy
➠ Gentle afterwards by the way !! Cute little aftercare where he mainly just holds you and plays with your hair..
➠ Overall, he’s a jealous switch and sort of vanilla
"mine, mine, mine- all mine," he says as he thrusts into you with his face buried into your neck. He had been going for far too long by now. Every time he released his cum inside you he just kept going like it wasn't enough. He was tired and sweaty but his hips kept moving as if his movements weren't his own. He could barely hold himself up now. "Holy fuck, please let me cum. I wanna fill you up, baby,"

Silent Vengeance / Lee Myung-gi
summarize: Who would have thought that a man who sees himself as powerful could be reduced to selfishness by obsession, only for a knight in armor to heal a broken heart?
English isn't my first language, so I apologize for any grammatical errors, but I really hope you enjoy it! based on s2 squid game so spoilers ahead!
Thanos’s pride and the attention he commanded among the crowd stirred bitterness in some of the contestants—yours included. It baffled many that a retired rapper would stoop to participate in such brutal games, especially one that involved splashes of blood staining his clothes.
It wasn’t until after the Green Light, Red Light game that his focus shifted. He noticed a particular figure—a silhouette that intrigued him more than he cared to admit. The way you sprinted with precision, timing each step perfectly to freeze at the exact moment, or how you yanked another contestant’s hair to throw them off balance, was a calculated display of survival. That endurance, paired with your quiet defiance of the chaos around you—including his own—captivated Thanos from the very beginning.
While Thanos reveled in his lingering popularity, relishing how some followed his every move like sheep to a shepherd, he couldn’t ignore one undeniable truth: for once, he wasn’t the center of attention. That honor belonged to you.
And never in a thousand of years would he see you here. In flesh. Not after the break up.
Like many others, you had joined the Games with hopes of a better life—a seductive promise whispered by the Salesman. His grotesque smile lingered in your mind whenever you stole a moment to rest, though such moments were rare. Still, your demeanor betrayed none of the turmoil beneath. Your stony expression, coupled with your tendency to linger at the edges, observing the chaos with silent disdain, set you apart. To you, the Games were a grim spectacle—a macabre theater of desperation and misplaced hopes.
Despite this, a few contestants managed to draw you into sparse, fleeting conversations. Thanos, however, stood apart—not because you sought him out, but because he was the last person you’d have ever chosen to engage with. And yet, it fascinated him. Knowing your shared history, he found it almost poetic to see you here, standing as a quiet, untouchable force while his own magnetism faltered in your shadow.
“This prick is getting on my nerves,” someone muttered, their voice sharp enough to cut through the murmurs of the room. The words belonged to 333. His number stood out just as much as his presence as he slid into the seat beside you. You’d learned his name was Lee Myung-gi. He extended a hand toward you, his lips curling into a soft grin that hinted at practiced charm. You nodded slightly, mirroring the gesture out of courtesy. “Y/N,” you said plainly.
There was a pause before Myung-gi’s gaze flicked toward Thanos, his tone lowering conspiratorially. “I don’t mean to stir the pot or anything, but... word is, you and Thanos were a thing. He says you’re pretending not to remember him. And that’s why you—”
“333!”
Thanos’s voice cut through like a blade, silencing Myung-gi mid-sentence. Both of you turned your heads in unison, meeting Thanos’s unyielding stare. You recognized that look immediately—brows furrowed, his glare burning with thinly veiled fury. It was a warning, one that promised Myung-gi wouldn’t survive another word in your direction. The intensity of it could rival any of the Games themselves.
“You should go,” you said quietly, your tone flat but decisive. Your eyes barely glanced at Myung-gi, let alone at Thanos. Yet the weight of his gaze pressed heavily on you, and something inside you churned—a mix of unease, defiance, and something far harder to name.
You wanted to let loose a string of curses, every sharp word you could think of—but you stopped yourself. The memory of a promise lingered in the back of your mind.
Never speak to one another after the breakup.
It was a fragile vow, one you both had clung to out of pride or necessity. But deep down, you knew it was only a matter of time before it shattered completely.
It wasn’t until the bathroom game that the tension reached its breaking point. Thanos never imagined he’d find himself mere feet away from you again, let alone in the confines of a separate room. Yet here he was, his determination undeterred, even as 333 hovered too close for his liking. Thanos wasn’t subtle about his intentions—he wouldn’t let anyone, least of all Myung-gi, encroach on what he still felt was his.
The image of you and 333 pressing X together during the last game still burned in Thanos’s mind, a fresh wound that refused to heal. It festered, replaying over and over like a mocking refrain, igniting a possessive anger he could no longer contain.
As he stepped into the bathroom hall, his focus zeroed in on Myung-gi, the irritation bubbling into something darker. “You’re getting all worked up. So there is something going on,” Thanos said, his voice low and edged with menace.
He stepped closer, his gaze sharp and unyielding. “If you press X again tomorrow...” Thanos leaned in, his words a venomous whisper, “I’ll cut off your finger and give it to her.”
Myung-gi’s jaw tightened at the threat, his discomfort evident. But what unsettled him more was the reason you’d pressed X with him in the first place. It wasn’t a calculated strategy or an empty gesture—it was a fleeting grasp at safety, something you rarely allowed yourself. While you were usually stoic, Myung-gi’s quiet acts of care had chipped away at your defenses, enough to make you question your own resolve.
Thanos couldn’t stand it. The rules of the Games were unambiguous, but what he thought he saw—the almost imperceptible closeness between you and Myung-gi, the way your lips hovered as if to kiss—was enough to set his blood ablaze. The possibility, imagined or not, was more than he could bear.
And that was the last straw.
“And ask her out. She’ll love it.”
“You asshole!” Thanos barely registered the punch before his jaw throbbed, the sharp sting waking something primal in him. His thumb brushed over his chin, checking for blood, before he retaliated with equal ferocity. “You motherfucker!” he snarled, his fist connecting with satisfying force.
Chaos erupted as their hands found each other’s throats, both grappling for dominance. Myung-gi’s back slammed against the bathroom stall, the sound echoing in the tight space. They crashed to the floor in a tangle of limbs, fists flying without restraint. “Your money, your girl, your life—they’re all mine!” Thanos spat, driving his fist into Myung-gi’s cheek with enough force to make his knuckles ache.
But then, everything shifted. Thanos froze, his breath hitching as blood sprayed from his own mouth, splattering across Myung-gi’s face. The sudden realization of injury shocked him into silence. Without a word, he pulled back, retreating to the shadows of the stall, his chest heaving with ragged breaths.
And yet, in that moment of pain and rage, his mind wasn’t on the fight—it was on you. Always you.
The bathroom games were over. The stalls were scrubbed clean of the chaos that had unfolded, leaving little trace of what had transpired. As you and Myung-gi stepped out, your eyes met briefly. The way he looked at you—earnest, searching—was impossible to ignore. The remaining contestants loitered nearby, their presence a quiet reminder of the fragile truce this space demanded. But Thanos was nowhere to be found. Somehow, the thought of his absence made your shoulders feel just a little lighter.
Despite the unspoken rule of no interactions before returning to the dorms, Myung-gi broke it without hesitation. He rushed toward you, his arms wrapping around you in a protective embrace. For a moment, you froze, unsure. But your hands instinctively found his face, fingers brushing over the bruise already darkening on his cheek.
You couldn’t stop the flood of thoughts about Thanos—how he’d reacted to other men during your relationship, the jealousy that often burned too brightly. The memories made your stomach twist with dread. But as your thumb grazed Myung-gi’s cheek, his eyes fluttered shut, leaning into the comfort of your touch.
“I don’t want to hear it,” you said softly, your voice steady despite the tension lingering in the air.
He let out a quiet scoff, his lips curling into a faint, tired smile. “The prick’s finally getting what he deserves anyway.”

Joining the squid games could possibly be the last thing any person with common sense and a reason to live would consider doing. Unless they either had none.
That's what it looked like for you. The games you had to do to win 45.6 billion won had you either questioning if it's still worth it to still keep going or just to end it all on this island.
Out of all the people in these games, there's one face that you despised seeing and wondered how he's still alive after what he did, Myung-Gi.
He's your ex boyfriend. Being with him was great at first, but once he was invested in the crypto coin thing business, it felt like you're being cheated on. It also didn't help that he had an affair behind your back with a girl named Kim Jun-hee who turned up pregnant.
You didn't hate Kim Jun-hee, as you felt bad for her that your ex abandoned her and their baby, but the whole thing hurted you.
There's nothing more you wanted to get out of here with enough money to move to another place and start off fresh.
When you first woke up in the dormitory with all the other players, you wondered where this possibly could go. You looked around to see so many unfamiliar faces.
Then a man in a pinkish red suit all the way across the room wuth a black covered mas with a white triangle comes out from double doors and starts explaining why majority are here. Because of their debts.
They showed different videos of people playing Ddakji and getting slapped in the face. There was one face you recognized, your ex. It wouldn't be surprising that he was in debt for trying to chase after the crypt coin thing.
It looks like you're not the only one who hated him, many people who fell for the crypto coin were also mad at him. A purple-haired guy stood out from the rest, as he was a rapper you heard from others who were apparently fans. You had no interest in him or your ex but were wondering what the whole ordeal of winning money is.
You had to sign a waiver for the games, and you were soon directed to take pictures. It was rough enough. Then you would have to climb stairs that seemed like you were going to Mount Everest. You saw your ex from the right side across. You also didn't want to risk being seen.
Finally, you reached the first game after what seemed like an eternity. There was a huge robot doll and the whole layout was supposed to imitate a school playground with its blue sky and sand ground.
"Hey there pretty" You turn around and see the purple haired guy who was talking to your ex
"Who are you?" You exclaimed looking him up and down not in the mood to be hit on.
"I'm Choi Seung-hyun, Thanos for my music. You might of heard my raps before?"
"If I did, I probably would want to be deaf right now. Including not hearing this conversation."
He pretended to be hurt and put a hand over his heart.
"Ouch girl. Cold aren't you?"
You rolled your eyes. He sees another girl walks by and also tries talking to her. Poor girl, you thought.
"Y/N?" You hear your name being called and look around.
"Y/N!" A hand fell on your shoulder and you flinched turning around.
It was Myung-Gi. Your panic turned into annoyance as you rolled your eyes again.
"What are you doing here?" He asks
"Should be asking you that too, but I think it's obvious."
"Can we please talk?"
"What's there to talk about Myung-Gi? You chose a cyrpt coin over me and cheated on me, and got another girl pregant"
"And I regret it very much. Please come back."
"Share those regrets with the others in here too, including the mother of your child."
He tried to reply back but you walked away from him, ignoring him.
Speakers came on, explaining the rules of the game.
A screaming man came into the front and said it's not what we think the game is. He exclaims that if you move, you'll die.
People around you scoffed and found the man crazy. It seemed like to you he was crazy too, but what if he was right?
He was still screaming telling people not to move a muscle when the game starts.
The robot started turning around and putting her hand up to the tree to not look at the other player.
It started singing.
"Everyone freeze!" The man in front says.
Nobody moved a muscle. Your eyes looked around and saw no one moving. What if the guys telling the truth?
The doll looked away and you started moving forward quickly along with everyone else.
"Everyone freeze!" Yelled again the older man.
There was a scream coming from a girl who moved. She laughed exclaiming she just moved. A bullet came through her head and she dropped dead.
The guy really wasn't lying then. One wrong move, you're dead. More people started moving and more gunshots were coming.
Bodies were dropping. People are screaming. This was a bad idea to be here. You were also pretty sure you were going to die with your ex boyfriend. That another cherry on top to add.
"If you don't make it to the finishing line on time, you'll also die." The man yells but has his mouth covered like he was going to take a sneeze.
It felt impossible to win this game. You were so sure you were going to win money but now the only thing you could be winning is death. You wanted to see if Myung-Gi was still alive.
But you couldn't risk being shot. Everyone sooned formed into a single file line. The man explained that the doll can't see what's behind a person if there's a bigger person in front.
More gunshots came. More bodies dropping. You couldn't stop now though. You're close to the finish line, you can feel it.
You soon reached the finish line relieved that you made it alive. You looked around for Myung-Gi to see if he's alive.
Why do you care so much about him? You thought to yourself.
It's just basic human sympathy you thought. Hating him is one thing, but him dying is another.
The game ended and you witnessed the man who warned about the game, you see his number was 456 and another, a woman helping a man who got shot in the leg reach the finish line get shot in the head.
This isn't just a game. This life or death. Everyone including you who passed were allowed to go back to the dorms.
Zoned out walking, seeing bodies and blood, you hear your name being called.
"Y/N!"
Turning around to see who called your name, you see Myung-Gi run up to you.
"Hey, are you okay?"
A light smile came from your face.
"Yes I'm alright and you?"
"Alive thank God." He chuckled.
You chuckled lightly but didn't know what to say after. Usually, you would have something smart to say to him but after what happened, you wanted nothing more to be out of here.
There were yelling and shouts to how the man knew they would shoot if you lost the game. They were accusing the man of being behind the game.
A pink guard then came out and congratulated us for completing the first game. It then if a majority voted to O, you could leave the game.
Everyone chose their own sides O and X. You chose X, even though you desperately wanted the money to be able to move to another city. You see Jun-Hee, his other ex, chose X too. Myung-Gi chose O, which you weren't surprised.
Unfortunately there were more O's than X's which meant you had to stay. You were heartbroken but also upset and turned to Myung-Gi. Now you wish he died in the first game.
You went up to him and turned him around aggressively and slapped him across the face. People looked at you guys, but you didn't care.
"You're really that selfish, you had to choose O?"
"Y/N-"
"The mother of your child is in this game and you choose O. I should have known from the start dating you was a bad idea. If these games don't kill you, I will."
You stormed off away from him and went to your bed. Myung-Gi probably thought you were bluffing about you killing him.
Something deep down you wanted to keep that word true.
It looks like you'll have to wait and see the next day.

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫 | lee myung-gi (player 333) × fem!reader
open requests!!
summary | you and player 333, race against the clock to find a door. when all hope seems lost, he risks everything to save you
warnings | violence, implied death, panic, and emotional distress, kissing
word count | 1.5 k
author's note | it would help me a lot if you liked, commented and reposted so that more people read what I write and don't forget to follow me thanks ᡣ𐭩
The echo of footsteps reverberates around you like a drum in the endless labyrinth. Screams, chaos... everything blends together, and your breathing becomes just another noise. You look around, searching for something—someone—to save you, but all you see are distorted faces, moving without stopping.
“Find a partner and a door before time runs out, or you will be eliminated.”
The words buzz in your head like a cruel hum. The timer on the wall, illuminated in intense red, counts down the seconds of your life.
00:58… 00:57… 00:56
You run toward a door, but someone else is already there.
"Please, wait for me!" you shout, your voice desperate and broken.
They don’t even bother to look at you. You feel a shove on your shoulder as someone else rushes past. Despair sinks into your chest, heavy as a stone, and you start to think there might be no way out.
00:45
You trip, and the cold, hard floor meets your knees. Tears burn in your eyes, but you can’t stop to cry. Not here, not now.
"I’m going to die."
The thought cuts into you like a knife. There’s no metaphor in it; it’s the most terrifying truth you’ve ever faced. If you don’t find a door, if you don’t find a partner, you’re done.
00:30
"Quick!"
A voice pulls you out of your trance. You lift your gaze and see him. It’s him: Lee Myung-Gi, player 333. His white shirt with the number is drenched in sweat, his dark hair disheveled, but his eyes… his eyes shine with a determination that throws you off.
"What are you doing down there? Get up!" he yells, extending his hand.
Your body reacts before your mind can process it. You grab his hand, his grip firm and steady, and he pulls you to your feet.
"Run with me!" he orders, and you do.
His hand doesn’t let go of yours as you sprint down the endless hallway. Every door you pass is already closed, its number dark. There are no options left, and you feel your legs about to give out at any moment.
00:15… 00:14… 00:13
"There!" he shouts, pointing to a door at the end of the hallway. It’s the last one.
Your heart speeds up even more, if that’s possible. But then you see it: someone else is running toward that door. A tall man, faster than the two of you, is only steps away from reaching it.
"No…" you whisper, feeling panic tighten your throat.
"Keep running!" Myung-Gi yells, suddenly letting go of your hand.
You watch as he launches himself at the other player, shoving him with all the force he has. The man stumbles and crashes to the ground, yelling in frustration as he tries to get back up.
"I’m sorry!" Myung-Gi shouts before turning back to you and grabbing your hand again.
"Run!"
You don’t have time to think about what he just did. Your feet move on pure instinct, and before you know it, he pushes you through the door and follows right behind you.
00:03… 00:02… 00:01… 00:00
The sound of the door closing is followed by deafening silence. Then, screams, gunshots… and silence again.
You collapse onto the floor, unable to stay on your feet. You’re trembling, your chest rising and falling rapidly as you try to catch your breath.
"I’m sorry about that…" Myung-Gi says, leaning against the wall as he breathes heavily. "I didn’t want to do it, but there was no other way."
His voice is calm, but all you can think about is the man he left outside. The tears you’ve been holding back pour out in a hot, bitter stream.
"I can’t… I can’t do this anymore…" you whisper, feeling your entire body shatter inside.
He crosses the small space in a couple of steps and kneels in front of you.
"Hey… look at me. We’re alive. We’re here." His hand rests on your shoulder, firm but comforting.
You can’t help but look at him, even though your eyes are blurred with tears.
"Breathe with me, okay? Inhale… exhale… like this."
You try to follow him. His voice has something in it that soothes you, something that gives you a faint glimmer of hope.
"Thank you…" you manage to murmur. "For not leaving me."
He shakes his head, as if your words weren’t necessary.
"I wasn’t going to let you die. Not you.
His words hit you harder than any shove or fall. You look into his eyes, searching for something—maybe a reason, maybe comfort—and you find a warmth you didn’t expect.
"I don’t know what I would’ve done without you…"
"You don’t need to know. I’m here, and I’m not going to let anything happen to you."
Before you can think of a response, you lean into him, desperate for something to hold on to. He doesn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around you, warm and protective, and you rest your head against his chest.
The sound of his heart, strong and steady, is the only thing keeping you grounded.
"I’m here," he whispers, his voice soft against your hair. "You’re not alone."
When you finally lift your head, you realize how close your faces are. His warm breath brushes against your skin, and suddenly, the noise of the game seems to vanish.
He lifts a hand and caresses your cheek, his fingers tracing a delicate path.
"You have to be strong. For us."
And then, his lips meet yours.
It’s a kiss filled with everything you can’t put into words. Desperate, yet comforting, as if he’s trying to imprint on your skin the fact that you’re still alive.
When you pull away, your eyes meet his, and though tears still streak your face, they’re no longer from fear.
"We’ll get out of this together," he says, a small but firm smile on his face. "I promise."

Player || Lee Myung-gi
Series : Chapter 1, Chapter 2 : Be Mine, Chapter 3, Chapter 4
Description :
A throw back to when you and Myung-gi met up until you got together.
Lee Myung-gi x Fem!Reader
Your life wasnt always easy, or great, or perfect. It never have been like that.
Until you met him.
Lee Myung-gi.
The love of your life.
You were born and raised in Seoul, Korea. Your parents took care of you and did their best to provide for you until you reach college.
Meeting Myung-gi was an accident. You didn't mean to fall in love with him at first sight. He was handsome from the start. His eyes were so dark you would probably say they were blackholes if you're not careful when looking into them, and he was tall. And kind too. He would listen when you needed it most.
He was a youtuber, a successful one at that, although you've never heard of him until you two became friends. He had told you that he decided to earn money first before continuing into college, and you support that.
You support everything he does, because everything he does is for the betterment of his future, and you admire that. That's why you fell in love with him.
When he first asked you out on a date, you almost choked. You don't remember the exact moment but you know that you were in a panic mode at first.
But then he smiled at you, softly, and it took you a second to recover enough to speak up. "Uh... I'm not sure about this," you said.
"It's okay," he replied. "I know a place that you will surely like, what do you say?"
And you did agree. And that's how you came to be here, waiting outside of the food shop where he had planned to meet you at.
His eyes lit up when he saw you, and you felt yourself blush. A smile graced his face as he approached, and you smiled back.
He opened the door for you and walked inside, motioning you to follow him.
The store seemed quiet, with only a couple of people inside. When he closed the door behind you, you couldn't help but stare at him.
He wore a plain white turtleneck and jeans. It suited him well, you thought. His hair looked soft, fluffy even. You could imagine him brushing through it with gentle fingers, massaging it, caressing it, loving it. The image made you shiver slightly, and a small smile appeared on your face.
"Are you alright?" Myung-gi asked, and you snapped out of your trance.
"Oh! Yeah, sorry." You cleared your throat.
He chuckled softly, holding out a chair for you to sit on. with a quick thank you, you sat down and he followed suit by sitting in front of you.
"You look beautiful by the way," he mumbled. His cheeks were tinted pink, you noticed, and a thankful smile played on your lips.
The two of you ordered the food of your choice and ate together in comfortable silence after that, occasionally asking each other questions and laughing lightly. You learned many things about him along the way.
One of which you liked, though, is that he was good with kids.
After a while, you finished eating. He paid the bill without hesitation, and you felt yourself flush slightly again.
He took your hand in his and led the both of you to the exit of the restaurant, your hands clasped tight.
"Let's go to the park, what do you say?" he asked you with a small smile.
"Sounds like fun."
You went there often, as you often go there with your friends, or when Myung-gi invites you over.
He pulled you to a small pond near the playground. The constant laugh of kids playing and other people laughing together made you smile brightly. it was such a mood bringer.
Suddenly, Myung-gi spoke from beside you, "Y/n... I have something important to tell you."
You turned towards him, worry written all over your face. "What is it, Myung-gi?" you asked. "Is anything wrong? Are you hurt? Or—"
He gently put a hand on your face, making you stop talking immediately, and silenced you with a kiss on your mouth. The sudden action caught you off guard, and you stood there, stiff as a board as you let him do what he wanted. You've kissed before with others, but never like this. Never this intimate. Never this passionate.
When he broke the kiss, he spoke, "Y/n, ever since I met you I've fallen head over heels for you. Ever since we met, I realized that I love you. So, please, let me make my feelings clear. L/n Y/n, will you be mine?" he asked, eyes shining with hope and love, and it was obvious just how much he really cared for you.
You blinked a few times. "I—" you tried to find words to express how wonderful this was, how amazing it was for him to say these things, how much you loved him. But they weren't coming to mind at the moment. You could barely form words.
"Say yes," Myung-gi insisted. "We can move in together, get married, and have lots of children. We can buy a house and have our own garden and everything. I'll take any responsibility. Anything. Please. Say yes, y/n." He grabbed your face, his thumb brushing against your cheek.
It was warm. Hot. Soft.
You swallowed hard. "Yes," you blurted out. "Yes, of course I'll be yours, Myung-gi."
The corner of his mouth twitched upwards. You swear he had the sweetest smile. He leaned in and kissed you again.
When he pulled away, his face was flushed red, but his eyes gleamed.
But that was 4 years ago, you're now 23 and Myung-gi is now 25. Your relationship with him gas been nothing but perfect, and you want to keep it that way.
You are happy with your relationship, of course, but you know that it can be more. And you can't wait to see where that will take you.
You were disappointed when he promoted a new coin called "Dalmatian" and stated that everyone should give up every last penny that they have into it.
But the cryptocurrency turned out to be a scam, and when Dalmatian's creators pocketed the money and ran off, everyone who'd invested in the coin had lost billions of won.
You were quite thankful that he refrained you from putting in a single coin in his promotions, but you still felt bad for everyone who was victimized.
Even if Myung-gi "scammed" people, he was also a victim, but fate has its own way. So when he was to face an arrest for fraud and breaking multiple communication and investment laws, he shut down his YouTube channel and flee to the Philippines. He didnt even bother visiting you for 2 weeks before deciding to message you saying that he flew away. Although, He promised he'll come back to Korea once things slightly gets better, and he did.
A month ago, he came back, but as did everyone, he changed. He's still the sweet, kind, and caring Myung-gi you know. The moment he came back you wasted no time and went on in a motel with him.
That night, all your fears and worries vanquished. You woke up to him stroking your hair and whispering sweet nothings in your ear. You loved it.
You can't believe that it's been so long since you twi have started dating. You haven't met someone like him before. Someone you feel like you belong with. Someone that makes you feel complete.
So you will do everything to win these stupid games. For him, always for him.
A/N 🩷
- I am aware that Myung-gi was said to be 30 years old in the series, but I decided to age him down together with everyone else. Although, age won't really matter once we move on to the games part so let's not think about that.
- Comments and reblogs are very much appreciated as they keep me motivated. Thank you, everyone.

player 333 (myung-gi) x fem!reader
⟢ pairing: myung-gi x fem!reader (basically replacing junhee as player 222 sorry jo yuri my queen)
⟢ fluff but a little steamy near the end...
⟢ word count: 4k
⟢ a/n: hai everyone this is my first ever fic here on tumblr and i haven't written anything in over four years so i apologize if the writing is terrible LOL
the annoyingly cheerful music blaring at what felt like 7 in the morning woke me up. the last thing i could remember before falling asleep was getting into a white semi-van driven by a man in a red hoodie whose face i couldn't quite make out. so where in the hell was i now?
blinking a couple times before rubbing one eye, i slowly slid up to the point where i could feel the cold, metal backboard of the bed you were in through the thin polyester jacket i had on. that's when i realized i was in a completely different outfit than the one i had on the night before. looking around, i noticed others slowly waking, everyone in the same outfit as mine with only a slight difference. you were all numbered, and my number was 222.
a guy who was in the bed directly in front of mine started waking up at that moment, mumbling something incoherent to himself and then letting out a huge sigh. the number on the back of his jacket was 333. only when he turned slightly to his left is when i realized; i'd recognize that side profile anywhere.
"lee my-" before i could even finish calling out his name, the speaker sent out feedback indicating the start of something unknown. everyone was awake at this point, walking towards the center pool of people.
that's when an alarm went off, and an automatic door let in a group of eerily mysterious people dressed in pink jumpsuits, their faces covered by black masks with either squares or circles painted on them in white.
"i would like to extend a hearty welcome to all of you," one of the square guards started. i was watching from the foot of my bed, trying to scan the crowd to navigate that piece of shit. i can't believe that asshole is here too, i thought to myself while half paying attention to whatever the square guy is saying.
"everyone here will participate in six different games over six days." games? what are we in, grade school? "those who win all six games will receive a handsome cash prize."
now that's what i wanted to hear. when that salesman looking guy approached me a week ago, he had me play a game of ddakji, which i was a natural at. so of course i beat him on the first round. he gave me 100,000 won as a prize and a rustic brown business card with only a number on the back. i debated on calling the ominous number for days on end, but the final straw was having all 58 of my calls to that asshole myung-gi ignored. he had "borrowed" 500,000 won from me to kickstart a stock he was investing in and just never paid me back. a couple of weeks after was when i found out his dumbass had led a bunch of his stream viewers to invest in the wrong coin, causing a lot of not-so-happy, middle aged men struggling to make ends meet to go after him.
anyway, i was determined to make him pay.
a couple of people from the huge crowd started yelling out remarks, demanding for answers.
"what happened to my clothes?" "did you kidnap us?" "why are you wearing a mask?" "show your face!"
then one person started asking for their phone, insisting that they had to check the crypto market.
"player 333, lee myung-gi," the square guard had declared. my head immediately snapped up, eyes glued to the screen that had just turned on. a video of myung-gi started playing and it was him being embarrassingly bad at the same game of ddakji i had played with the salesman. i couldn't help but laugh to myself as hundreds of people watched him get slapped, how humiliating.
"current debt levels, 1.8 billion won." oh you had to be joking.
that made the measly 500,000 won he owed me look like nothing. no wonder he was ignoring my calls, the loser had absolutely no means of paying me back, let alone getting rid of his own debt.
i lost sight of myung-gi when the guards had us line up and sign what looked like a consent form to play the games. it seemed a bit excessive, but i guess they had to keep it all professional. we then had our photos taken before being led up multiple flights of pink, maze-like stairs.
all at once, three giant doors opened up to a large, sand-filled area. the guards instructed us to go in and stand behind the red line drawn on the ground. at the very end of the field was an enlarged cartoonish doll. what could we possibly be doing here?
i looked around for myung-gi again, hoping to catch him by surprise when he saw my face afters months of ignoring me.
"the first game is red light, green light," a woman's voice iterated through the speakers. red light, green light? i hadn't played that since i was a kid. "cross the finish line before the five minutes are up. if you do, you pass."
this honestly felt like a joke. why were we getting paid to play children's games?
"everyone!" i squinted my eyes to see a middle-aged man, his number being 456, run to the middle of the crowd. "everyone, pay attention!" he was waving his arms like a mad man to try and get everyone to listen to him.
"this is not just a game!" what?
"if you lose, you die!" there's no way that was true. did he mean get eliminated? they wouldn't really kill us, would they? i looked around to watch everyone else's expressions. some started visibly shaking, others shaking their heads in pure disbelief.
at that moment, the robotic doll turned around and put her hand up to her eyes.
"let the game begin."
the first "red light, green light" was said and everyone began to move. as soon as the doll stopped to look around, i stayed as still as possible. the man from earlier was still yelling at everyone to freeze, and something in me started to believe in what he was saying about the game. as i froze in place, i scanned the people around me. 239, 009, 176, 028, and 333. found you.
the next "red light, green light" played and i ran towards myung-gi. he might've been a crypto bro who practically lived at the pc cafe, but damn he was a fast runner. the next couple of "red light, green light's" went off and i was just about a feet behind him now. that's when a loud "bang" echoed throughout the hall. a gun shot. more gun shots sounded, followed by ear-piercing screams. stay still, stay still, i thought to myself.
then it went silent. everyone who was still alive was frozen in their places, not even moving when the doll said "red light, green light." my eyes focused on myung-gi. he was breathing so heavily i could hear him.
"red light, green light." the man from earlier, player 456, was the only one to move as he ran past all of us. "red light, green light." he moved a bit further, with his back facing us.
"the doll detects motion," he yelled out as he had one hand behind his back, moving it around to prove what he was saying was true. so as long as the doll couldn't physically see me moving, i would be fine.
"we're running out of time. we have to move!" shit.
"red light, green light." everyone moved then, finding someone bigger than them to hide behind. i was still behind myung-gi, who i admit was shorter than most guys here, but then again so was i. we were almost by the finish line, with a little less than a minute left.
"red light, green light." we moved again in a synced matter. but just as the doll was about to turn her head, myung-gi tripped on someone's foot. he's going to die, i thought. without thinking, i put out my arm, and grasped onto the back of his jacket.
"don't. move," i whisper-yelled, my teeth gritting against each other. myung-gi didn't make a sound.
"red light, green light," i let go and he regained his balance, the two of us crossing the finish line. i bent over, my hands resting on my knees as i tried to breathe normally again.
"y/n?" myung-gi questioned. i looked back up to him, scanning his face. as much as he was confused as to why i was here, he also looked relieved to see a familiar face.
"aren't you going to thank me?" i retorted. i did just save his life.
"oh, yeah," he said, his hand reaching the back of his head, "thank you. seriously." i sighed and gave him a slight nod. frankly, i was too exhausted and too desperate to get out of this place to even demand for my money back from him right now. he opened his mouth again, like he had something to say, but got quickly distracted by the ceiling of the arena slowly closing in. the game was over.
the guards had us all walk back into the room we woke up in. it was eerily quiet; people were scared for their lives. i just wanted to go home. i didn't even care about the money anymore. why would any of this even matter if i didn't make it out alive?
everyone made it back inside as the guards followed behind the last couple of players, stopping in front of the door they first walked out of. some of the players ran down to the middle of the floor and started kneeling to the ground, rubbing their hands profusely, begging to be saved.
"we are not trying to hurt you. we are only presenting you with an opportunity," the square guard declared.
"clause three of the consent form!" i turned around to look at the player that yelled this out. it was the same man that was helping everyone in the last game, player 456. "the games may be terminated upon a majority vote. correct?"
oh thank god. we actually had a chance at getting out of here before they had us all killed.
that's when the room went dim, and a golden piggy bank was slowly let down from the ceiling. even i was mesmerized, my eyes glued to the stacks of money falling into it. the guard then explained there was a sum of 9.1 billion won in the bank, and if we all wanted to leave now, it would be split by all current players. murmurs erupted, some people wanting to stay and play more games for the sum to rise, while others still wanted to leave.
"now, let's begin the vote."
the guards started calling out player numbers, starting from the last number, 456. the first vote was an X. each player received a tag with either an X or an O, indicating what they had voted for.
"player 333." i watched as myung-gi emerged from the crowd, and walked towards the buttons. i swear to god.
the sound of the button went off and so did a flash of blue light. he picked O.
he barely even made it through the first game without my help, yet he wanted to stay and continue playing? i scoffed to myself, he really did only care about himself.
"player 222." it was finally my turn. i walked up to the voting stand, confident in my answer. i hit the X button and received my tag. walking back to the group of other X voters, i looked over at myung-gi standing on the opposite side who was also watching me from afar. i narrowed my eyes and made a face full of utter disgust and disappointment, then looked away. in that moment, i regretted saving him at all.
the voting ended shortly, the O's winning by one point. we really had to stay and play another game. it was absurd to me, all these people being blinded by the money after seeing firsthand how one wrong move could literally get you killed.
food service happened after the voting and each person was given a meal. i walked back to my bed and opened up the metal box to find a layer of white rice, topped with an egg, sausage, and picked radish. it honestly wasn't bad at all. i was eating peacefully before myung-gi walked up, holding out his box of food and resting his arms on the foot of my bed.
"you want the radish? i know it's your favorite," i looked up at him, mid-chew of a mouthful of rice and egg. the radish was my favorite, but i was surprised he remembered that at all. without saying anything back, because i was still mad at him, i took the pieces of radish out of his box and put it in mine.
"are you mad at me?" i looked up from my food again. he could not be serious. we were making eye contact now, but the purple-ish, blue ring forming around his left eye caught my attention.
"what happened to your eye?" i asked, ignoring his initial question. i don't even know why i brought it up, i could care less about this asshole.
"don't worry about it." say less! i went back to eating my food, myung-gi still hovering, waiting for the answer to his question. i gave him a "what?" look with a shoulder shrug and seems like he took that for an answer because he turned back around and started walking away without saying another word.
i looked toward his direction ever so often after finishing up my meal. he really was a loser and didn't have anyone else here, not even someone to team up with. he sat straight up on his bed, poking at the rice with his spoon. a couple of hours passed by, and it was soon bedtime. the lights in the room dimmed and everyone was in their beds by this point. i pulled the thin cotton blanket over me and readjusted my pillow so it was leaning a bit against the bed board. i lay there on my back with my hands intertwined across my chest, closed my eyes and desperately tried to fall asleep. but it was one of those nights where your eyes were sleeping, and your body wasn't. hours passed and i was still awake. i tried turning to my side, readjusting my pillow again, but nothing worked. at a loss, i just kept my eyes open and stared at the bottom of the bed above mine.
the older gentleman to my right was snoring like there was no tomorrow, and a woman in her mid-20s to my left kept turning around every 5 minutes. even if i did manage to fall asleep, i probably would've woken up because of one or the other. that's when i heard someone nearby talking, or it was more of a loud whisper. i sat right up on my bed to figure out where the noise was coming from, only to see the source was right in front of me.
myung-gi was talking... but to himself? i slowly peeled the blanket off of myself and threw both legs over the edge of my bed. i stepped on my shoes without properly putting them on, and walked towards his bed, making sure not to make anymore noise that could wake up anyone else. i watched as myung-gi continued to blurt out sentences and random words in his sleep, but i couldn't quite make out what he was actually saying. his eyes were fully closed, but his eyebrows were at a slight furrow with sweat beading on his forehead. he looked like he was burning up. without even realizing, i reached my hand out to his forehead, hovering just an inch above it. i didn't even need to make contact with his skin to know he had a fever. i retracted my hand and bent down to my feet to fully put on my shoes before walking over to the door that led to the restroom. a guard was standing by the door and it took me a good 10 minutes for him to let me use the restroom, finally convincing him by saying it was that time of the month.
i grabbed a long piece of a paper towel, folded it, and let it run under the cold water for a bit. i walked back out the door without the guard noticing the paper towel in my hand and made it back to myung-gi, who was thankfully still asleep. i reached out my arms to place the towel on his forehead, but before i could take them back, myung-gi's hand wrapped around my left wrist. his eyes were slightly open, but i couldn't quite tell if he was actually awake or not.
"stay," he croaked, his voice coming out raspy. i stood there unsure what to do and his grasp still on my arm. "please."
well it's not like i could fall asleep anyway. i used my feet to take off my shoes and climbed into his bed, using his arm as a pillow. i cautiously turned to slightly face him, but myung-gi looked like he had already fallen back asleep. i turned back around, closed my eyes, and without even knowing it, fell asleep right then.
i felt warmer than usual as i started waking up to the same music that played when i first got here. eyes still closed, i turned over to my right side and felt even warmer. it was a nice feeling and i wanted to stay here just for a couple more minutes.
the chatter from the people around me woke me up. vision still blurry, i blinked profusely to make sure i wasn't hallucinating. i was looking straight at myung-gi, our faces almost an inch apart. his eyes were still closed and i could even hear his heartbeat; we were that close. we were also under the same blanket now, not knowing how i even got to that position considering he was hogging the thing when i first laid down.
i didn't know what to do. i didn't want to move now because then he'd wake up and i'd have to confront him. i just kept looking at his face, focusing on the bruise from yesterday, which was now a little darker in color. he didn't look like he still had a fever, but something in me wanted to check anyway. i freed my left arm from my own grip and slowly raised it up to his forehead, but before i could even check, myung-gi opened his eyes. i quickly dropped my hand and closed my eyes, pretending like i had never even woken.
fuck, fuck, fuck, shit, shit, shit.
then i heard him starting to laugh, myung-gi was laughing at me. i peeked one eye open and he started to laugh even harder. now i felt myself heating up. guards please take me now, just take me now. as i was about to say something, myung-gi used the blanket to cover me entirely and pulled me in even closer.
"what the fuck are you do-" i tried to get out, but my voice got muffled by the blanket as he brought me in even closer. oh my god i thought i was going to explode.
"you hiding something under that blanket?" a voice questioned from outside. i took that as my queue to stay as silent as possible.
"no, why would i be?" myung-gi answered back.
"don't talk back to me, fucker. unless you want a matching black eye." oh, so this must've been the person that beat the shit out of myung-gi yesterday. myung-gi didn't respond this time, but i could feel his arm around me loosen as the footsteps got further away. i reached for the rim of the blanket and pulled it back down enough for my face to show. that was a bad idea, because i was just about touching his chest now.
"if you wanted a hug you could've just said so," he said sarcastically, a one-sided grin forming on his face as he looked down at me.
"in your dreams," i said, all flustered. i quickly pushed myself away before he could pull anything else and practically stumbled out of the bed. i didn't even look back as i put on my shoes and walked out to regroup with the rest of the players.
they had us get into groups of five for the second game, making it a game based on team effort. i teamed up with four older guys, one of them being player 456 from earlier. i was glad i didn't end up with myung-gi this game, because honestly i didn't know how to face him after last night. but i still found myself glancing over at him throughout the game to make sure he was still alive.
we both got through the second game, but it was still silence between us. i didn't go up to him and neither did he try and talk to me. i couldn't fall asleep that night either, but i didn't dare get out of my bed.
the next game came around quickly. i stuck with the group i had made during the previous game, and we quickly got the hang of this new game. we were placed onto a merry-go-round like platform and spun around until the music stopped. the speaker would blurt out a number and the same amount of people would need to run and find a room to stay in. if the room had more or less people than the number that was said, you would die. as a group of 5, we got through teams of 3 and 6 pretty easily. but then the speaker called out 2. i looked up as everyone paired up, and i had no one. my mind went fuzzy, everyone was running around screaming and looking for their friends. i felt like i was going to faint until i felt someone grab onto my wrist and started to drag me off the platform. i picked up on the pace and ran like my life depended on it, because it did.
we ran into a purple room and shut the door. my back was pinned to the wall as myung-gi still held onto my wrist. we were both trying to catch our breath, but then he leaned in closer. my body froze and we were only inches apart again. i was looking into his eyes, then panned down to his lips, just to trace back up to his eyes again. the door clicked shut and we were stuck in here. together.
in that moment, i felt his lips touch mine. i closed my eyes as i let myself melt into the kiss. he let go of my wrist and positioned one hand at my waist while the other creeped up the back of my neck. i could feel my shirt fleeting as his fingertips made contact with my skin ever so lightly. my hands made their way up his chest as i gripped onto his shirt and pulled him in even closer, deepening the kiss and eliciting a whiny moan from him. i wanted this to go on forever.
the door made another clicking sound, letting us know we could go back out. i loosened my grip before myung-gi could get his hand up any higher under my shirt.
"we have to," i let out, mid-kiss, "go." we both came to a stop then, realizing we had to go back out onto the platform. i quickly straightened up my shirt with my hands and reached up to myung-gi's hair which was looking all disheveled now to smooth it back out into his natural middle part.
"we're not done yet," he whispered into my ear as we walked out the door, parting ways once again.
that's when i knew i'd be getting a good night's sleep tonight.
