Best Rap 2018
This year has been probably the most packed year of all time in terms of the sheer volume of decent rap releases. Due to the huge quantity of releases itâs easy to miss out on a lot of great music and get lost in the mix. With that in mind, I wanted to create a long list that can be bookmarked and returned to for those who slept.
I could have easily created a top 300 and still felt bad about leaving a few good albums out. That said, I've managed to cut it down to a slightly more definitive (but hardly concise) top 150 so this doesn't read like too much of a phone book.
As in previous years, âRapâ is on the banner, but the list is made up of hip-hop, UK road rap, grime, and anything that can adequately be categorised as a rap sub-genre in my mind.
Finally, as usual, donât get too hung up on the order. The top albums are at the top and the still-quality-but-not-quite-elite albums are towards the lower end, but thereâs no use getting too hung up about what appears as, say, my 57th and 61st favourite albums. This is designed and published primarily for myself to look back on in years to come and reflect on the year, but also for anyone who reads it to see it as recommended listening that should keep you very busy.
I would write a blurb for each and every album to explain why I love them, but no-one would pay me and my time is valuable, so instead Iâve linked each album to their Spotify streamâŠEnjoy, and feel free to let me know if I've missed anything!
Hereâs my top 150 rap albums of 2018. Happy new year!

Playboi Carti Dress, Style, Rapping.
How to dress like playboi carti?
Dressing like a playboi carti Merch is not as hard as you might think. He's known for his distinctive style of tall t-shirt, shorts or joggers and the most stylish chunky shoes around! If you're looking to dress more casual this summer but still want to look cool playing ball with your friends at the park I've got good news I found some easy steps on how do it:
1) A tall t-shirt that fits snugly underneath high wasted leather pants will be perfect for those hot sunny days in spring, summer;
What is Playboi Carti's style?
Carti's style is something that has been discussed for months now. He knows he has fans, and he also knows that they want to know what his style is like. The best way to describe it would be "bold." Carti wears hoodie clothes that are bright and noticeable which makes him stand out in a crowd. This doesn't mean all of his clothes are loud though; sometimes people may not even know who he is wearing because the t-shirt or pants look so normal! You could wear something similar without them knowing at first glance you're rocking Carti's swag (and maybe after some questions).
Why Rap Needs Playboi Carti
I don't think it's a stretch to say that Playboi Carti is one of the most exciting rappers out right now. If you've heard his newest album, "Die Lit", then you know what I'm talking about. The young artist has been making waves as the new kid on the block, and for good reason: he brings something fresh and different to hip hop with his unique sound and style. His songs are catchy and fun without sacrificing any lyrical integrity or creativity--a hard balance to strike! For those reasons alone, he deserves all of our attention and respect as an up-and-coming rap star we should keep our eyes on in 2018.
Playboi Carti grasp Kid Cudi beyond the procedure to His insanity
Playboi Carti recently took Kid Cudi behind the method to his madness, giving us a glimpse into what's inside of his backpack. The Atlanta rapper has been on fire this year with his debut album Die Lit and he is showing no signs of slowing down in 2019. He even dropped off some heat for our listening pleasure earlier this week called "Play" featuring Gunna. Â After that release, Playboi decided to take Kid Cudi for a ride through Atlanta to show him where he gets his inspiration from when it comes to music. From there, they stopped by the local sneaker spot which was filled up with all different kinds of sneakers including exclusive pairs like Air Jordans and Gucci slides.
Is carti punk a Playboi?
Honestly, I'm not sure if Carti is punk or has anything to do with the genre of music. But that doesn't matter because he's got some new music on his Sound cloud and you can check it out for yourself.

It will be available in a solid primary color; however, dark hues appear much more excellent, which is the most extraordinary form of this t-shirt.

Concert Review: Playboi Carti @ The Observatory (7/27/18)
July has been a pretty dry month for me both figuratively and literally so I decided to do myself a favor and bought tickets to see Playboi Carti perform at The Observatory, the third stop of his Die Lit tour. Cartiâs songs have been in my everyday rotation since his self-named mixtape came out last year so I could not pass up on this opportunity.
Playboi Carti is an Atlanta rapper signed to ASAP Mobâs AWGE label. He has had numerous collaborations with artists like Lil Uzi Vert and ASAP Rocky and took last summer by storm with his hit song âMagnoliaâ. He released his first album, also named Die Lit, in May. With his simple and catchy flow, itâs extremely hard to not âmilly rockâ in New York to his music. Cartiâs ability to make slappers by repeating a few lines, adding his signature âwhatâ ad libs and/or rapping in a baby voice is definitely a gift from the mumble rap gods and makes him truly worthy to be a part of XXLâs 2017 Freshman Class.
The late night show started off with an obscure rapper, LB. He performed a few songs and hyped up the crowd for our VLONE soldier. It was disappointing to learn that Sheck Wes and Duwap Kaine had their sets cancelled.
However, that disappointment soon passed when Carti came out. Dressed in a highlighter yellow-green outfit, a black VLONE shirt and an Atlanta Braves hat, he hit the stage full of energy and kept the crowd live throughout his entire set. Starting off with âRIP Fredo (Notice Me)â, Carti had the crowd going off! After a few songs, Carti performed other hits from his recent tapes like âMagnoliaâ, âPoke It Outâ, âMileageâ and even some of his old Soundcloud classics like âFettiâ. One of my favorite parts was when he performed his unreleased track âCancunâ because of the hype its snippet video attracted where he rubs money all over his stomach repeatedly claiming that â[his] stummy hurt.â Near the end of the set, Carti performed Die Litâs intro, âLong Timeâ, and ended the night with âTake A Step Backâ by Ski Mask the Slump God and XXXTentacion.
Overall, I had a really fun time at the concert. I was really impressed by Cartiâs energy and I was surprised that he was able to pull off two wild shows in one night. I canât wait to see what he has in store!

Playboi Carti, a 21-year-old rapper from Atlanta, slouched in the curtained back seat with braids dangling over his eyes, silently absorbing the view while blaring his latest album.
PARIS â The black Rolls-Royce Phantom cut through Parisian streets like a hammerhead shark, circling the Arc de Triomphe, gliding along the Seine and nosing past the Louvreâs glass pyramid.
Playboi Carti, a 21-year-old rapper from Atlanta, slouched in the curtained back seat with braids dangling over his eyes, silently absorbing the view while blaring his latest album, âDie Lit,â which debuted at No. 3 on Billboardâs album chart.
âI took you out the âhood / I took you to my shows,â he raps in the song âHome.â âWe took a lot of pics, and now we look like goals.â
It was the morning of June 21 during Paris Menâs Fashion Week, and Playboi Carti (born Jordan Carter) was headed to the Jardin du Palais Royal to walk in the Louis Vuitton show. It was the ballyhooed first collection from Virgil Abloh, consigliere to Kanye West, founder of Off-White and Louis Vuittonâs first African-American artistic director.
Playboi Carti was joined in the show by a diverse group of models, musicians (Dev Hynes, Kid Cudi, Octavian and ASAP Nast) and artist Lucien Smith. If Ablohâs roots in the streetwear universe drew some clucking from the fashion worldâs haughtier roosts, few would deny that a meaningful day was unfolding.
âThis is black history,â Playboi Carti said. âItâs monumental. This is Louis. This is the top dog. No disrespect to Vetements, but my mom, my dad, my auntie, my great-grandmother know what Louis is.â
He pulled up to the park around 11 a.m. with his manager, bodyguard and a buddy who wore a red Balenciaga fanny pack. Abloh greeted him, and they strolled to the foot of the runway, a gradient rainbow path that went the entire length of the 17th-century courtyard. A camera crane arched overhead, as if threatening to pluck a human trinket from a bowling alley game.
While Playboi Carti has modeled for Off-White and Yeezy, these stakes were higher. With several hours to go before showtime, an event producer led him on a dry run down the runway flanked with lime trees. âStrong walk,â she said, sidling along as he reached the end. âStay focused, youâre still visible. Thereâs like 20 cameras on you and drones everywhere.â
He would be closing the show, making him last to walk, but also first for the finale, when all the models march together. It was an enviable slot, and it made sense. He is a 6-foot-2 spray of limbs and braids, blending the cool stoniness of early 1990s Snoop Dogg with the wide-eyed twitchiness of youth incarnate.
âHe has an intangible quality,â Abloh said. âHis quiet presence and command of energy makes him a perfect model in my mind. He oozes potential.â
Playboi Carti was born in Atlanta and raised in Riverdale, Georgia. He attracted attention, like many rappers of his generation, through SoundCloud. In 2017, he released a self-titled major-label debut, which included that summerâs bouncy anthem âMagnolia.â His first sobriquet was Prince Cartier, a twist on his last name, but also indicative of a budding interest in fashion and luxury brands.
Taking a smoke break under one of the ornate archways, he recalled searching Google for âCartierâ in his early teens. âYou just see jets, gold, fancy watches, a lifestyle,â he said. âIt caught my eye when I was a young boy. I didnât have Cartier. I didnât have Gucci, Louis, none of that. I most definitely have great expectations for myself, but I didnât know Iâd be here.â
With the 2:30 p.m. show approaching, the white staging tent erected along the southern Galerie du Jardin became a hive of activity. Young men awaiting haircuts and makeup were draped across couches in stages of repose.
Playboi Carti, who was still in his street clothes (a yellow-and-black ensemble by Vlone), had his facial hair groomed by a heavily tattooed barber and his braids oiled. A manicurist struggled to remove the gel coating on his nails, which were decorated with yellow smiley faces.
In the three-hour interim between the rehearsal and the show, he mostly hung out with ASAP Nast, sampling postage-stamp-size canapĂ©s and a tiny bagel. Unimpressed, he wondered aloud, âCan I get some McDonaldâs or something?â A production assistant darted out of the tent. Soon, two heaping bags of McDonaldâs chicken nuggets arrived with a greasy waft.
At last, it was time. Playboi Carti donned his Vuitton look: a reflective silver poncho, jeans emblazoned with characters from âThe Wizard of Ozâ on the yellow brick road, black sneakers and a turquoise necklace. âItâs fire,â he said of the poncho.
Accompanied by music from Kanye Westâs latest album, âYe,â and a live performance by instrumental band BadBadNotGood, models began unveiling crocodile totes, sheer shirts and white leather coats. Playboi Carti was quiet, maybe even nervous, as he waited backstage, the last of 56 models. Abloh gave him a final touch-up.
About five minutes later, Playboi Carti emerged from the tent and gleamed in the afternoon sun. He strode purposefully past thousands of camera-wielding spectators, brand fanatics swinging Vuitton purses, fashion editors and celebrities, including West, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian West, Bella Hadid, Naomi Campbell and Russell Westbrook. A drone buzzed above, as he approached the Galerie de Beaujolais, veered left and vanished.
As the crowd applauded and frantically Instagrammed, he reappeared to lead a single-file army of models back down the runway. Still hard-eyed and expressionless, he hit all his marks.
Moments later, he was back in the tent, whooping and hugging other models. The meniscus of tension had burst. Instead of brooding human wire hangers, they were rappers and skaters and rawboned teenagers again. He changed back into his street clothes and grabbed his look card, perhaps as a souvenir.
What did he think of his moment under the Paris sun? âI was just trying not to laugh,â he said. âStraight face. Thatâs the only thing you can do. You canât fall.â

Die lit playboi carti merch hoodie dhgate are great for formal as well as for an intelligent street casual look. You don't need to wear it with a collared shirt if you're wearing it for a formal occasion; choose a T-shirt or tank instead.
