Septic Tank Pumping Austin
Why Use a Septic System?
Septic tanks are made use of when centralized sewage treatment plants are not accessible in an area. They securely deal with and deal with wastewaters generated in the restroom, kitchen, and laundry. These wastewaters may contain disease-causing bacteria and contaminants that should be treated to secure human wellness and the environment. Septic tanks are generally a permanent remedy to wastewater treatment and disposal. Therefore, they should be correctly made use of, run, and maintained by the homeowner to ensure the lasting efficiency of these systems. Even when made use of as a short-term wastewater treatment remedy till sewer lines are included an area, unique treatment and maintenance are required for septic systems to ensure that they do not posture a threat to public wellness or the environment.
What Is a Septic System?
A number of different kinds of septic systems are available, each with its very own design. The traditional, standard system is the one that has actually been most commonly made use of in North Carolina up until the past years. The septic tank is a water tight container about 9 feet long and 5 feet high. It is hidden in the ground simply outside the home. The tank is generally precast from enhanced concrete, although tanks made from plastic or fiberglass may be seen from time to time. While a storage tank is normally developed with a 1,000-gallon fluid capacity, its dimension is lawfully identified by the number of bedrooms in the home. The tank momentarily holds house wastes and enables a small amount of pretreatment to happen.
What Takes place in the Drainfield and the Dirt?
The purpose of the drainfield is to deliver the fluid sewage effluent to the dirt. The real treatment of the wastewater takes place in the dirt under the drainfield. Sewer effluent flows out of the tank as an over cast fluid that still contains lots of disease-causing bacteria and environmental pollutants. Effluent flows right into the perforated pipeline in the trenches, travels through the openings in the pipeline, then trickles down via the crushed rock to the dirt. There are additionally "gravel-less" trenches made use of where plastic louvered chambers, polystyrene accumulation, tire chip accumulation, or huge size pipes are made use of instead of the crushed rock accumulation. These materials provide a void area in the trench to permit circulation of the effluent to the trench base. As sewage effluent goes into and flows via the ground, dirt fragments strain most of the microorganisms that could trigger illness. The dirt adsorbs a few of the smaller sized bacteria, such as infections, till they are destroyed. The dirt could additionally maintain certain chemicals, including phosphorus and some kinds of nitrogen. An unique zone, called a biomat, kinds in the top 1 to 6 inches of the dirt at the soil/trench interface simply below the trench base. This biomat zone is useful. It assists get rid of most of the bacteria and chemical contaminants. If the solids building up in the septic tank are never ever pumped out, nevertheless, they could flow right into the trenches and accumulate right into an intensive biomat that comes to be as well thick. When that takes place, the biomat entirely obstructs the dirt and does not permit the sewage effluent to drain of the trench. A poorly conserved system will fail and trigger untreated sewage to entirely fill up the trenches and come out on top of the ground or back up right into the home in its pipes system. https://septictankpumpingaustin518.blogspot.com/2022/12/septic-tank-pumping-austin.html Septic Service Houston Septic Service Tulsa Septic Service Reno Septic Service Moreno Valley https://peteaboutdietpills.tumblr.com/ https://peteaboutdietpills.tumblr.com/rss https://www.tumblr.com/peteaboutdietpills/702448647342800896/weight-loss-programs-near-me https://septictankpumpingsalinas.blogspot.com/ https://septictankpumpingsalinas.blogspot.com/2022/12/septic-tank-pumping-salinas.html

@shannanrn regarding the pipes... Continue on for the most boring-ass adult lamesauce post I've ever made lmao.
My house was built in the early 50s, and then flipped in 2013 before I bought it in 2017. The flippers did a decent job, but it was obvious that they tried to do things themselves without using professionals for certain things. My dad finished the attic of our house growing up and did the same thing- used some friends, but otherwise did most of the work himself.
We aren't sure what the deal with the pipes were. There was clearly some piping that was original to the house from the 50s, and it was cast iron. There was other pipe that was most likely from the 70s when we are assuming the house was switched from a septic tank to a sewer. We've never found any evidence of a septic tank out back so my guess is that it was dug up a long time ago, especially because there' also no evidence of a leach field out back either, but regardless; when they switched to sewer, they used cast iron pipes. Some of the piping in the basement didn't look super old from the outside but based on everything this month, we are guessing that they painted the old cast iron pipes for some unknown reason. The basement was finished during the 2013 flipping and the pipes weren't exposed, so we don't know why they painted them.
Anyway. The pipes from the bathroom and kitchen were cast iron in the basement, all the way out the foundation and into the yard where they then switched to plastic pipes (our guess is that the town did this when switching to sewer and was unrelated to the house flipping).
The case iron piping was starting to rot and had a lot of sediment and flaking off that was occluding some of the piping. They tried to replace the first 15 feet, which was exposed due to the water damage from the leaky water heater. They had not been able to snake it or pass a camera because whoever did the piping had put an absolute insane amount of 90-degree turns and y-sites into it. However after they replaced that they were then able to feed a camera into the last 10 feet, which was all straight, and out the house into the street. The last 10 feet of cast iron was also rotten; additionally, where the pipes exited the foundation near the driveway, tree roots had invaded the pipes and left only 1/4 of the piping open, the rest full of dirt and leaves and tree roots. So they had to dig up a bout 5-6 feet of the yard to the side of the house and jackhammer into the house foundation to remove the old cast iron, remove the root, and replace with plastic pipe. The pipes were also all 3" diameter, whereas the plumber said the standard is to use 4".
The project manager told me that at this point there is a 10-year warranty on the new pipes they placed, and that they fixed the issues of the multiple turns and y-sites, got rid of the roots (and I actually had that tree removed a couple summers ago because it was in danger of falling on my house and was dying), and that the plastic pipes should outline me and my future children.
So. In all. Ended up replacing the hot water heater, snaking the pipes 3x (all unsuccessfully, or only temporarily successful), replacing the toilet, replacing all of the cast iron pipe with plastic pipe from where it started in the house all the way through the foundation into the yard where it met the plastic piping in the yard, and put in three new clean-outs so that if I do ever have issues, there are better places to snake. One is in the wall between the "finished" room of the basement and the bathroom in the basement, where we had to cut extra drywall beyond that of the water damage, and will be putting a door or access panel. Another clean-out is behind the wall in the laundry room (we had to tear the wall down yesterday with a hammer), and the third will actually be exposed next to the house so it can be accessed from outside.
Not that I wanted any of this to happen, but I guess I am pretty lucky that this issue was discovered now. We think it was probably exacerbated by draining the old hot water heater- the pipes just couldn't handle pumping 50 gallons of water out that quickly. The basement walls had already been partially removed due to the water damage from the old heater leaking. If this issue had waited 6 more months, the walls would have been re-done already and we would have had to tear out and replace the drywall for a second time. At least most of the piping was already exposed.
In total, replacing everything and the excavating and all, it was just over $18,000. So bring on on the overtime. lol.

How Is A Septic Tank Beneficial For Waste Management?
A septic tank is a cement, fiberglass, or plastic underground chamber into which untreated wastewater (sewage) flows for proper treatment. Solid waste and organic wastes are reduced by settling and anaerobic processes, but treatment efficiency is only moderate, referred to as primary treatment. The treated liquid effluent is usually disposed of in a septic drain area, where it is treated further. Septic tank systems are a form of an onsite sewage facility (OSSF). They can be used in remote areas where there is no access to sewage systems, these include rural areas. Just search the internet for a septic tank rental near me if you live in a remote area and need a septic sewage system.
Septic tanks work by using the soil's inherent processing mechanism to remove waste. Before entering the leach field or drain field, wastewater is treated by the septic tank. When the wastewater has exited the septic tank, bacteria is washed out by the soil, making the water safe to drink. The use of septic tanks allows for natural replenishment of local water sources. The wildlife in the region benefits from the local water sources, and septic tanks add to this process by treating wastewater.
It is normally more costly to install new pipes to eliminate wastewater via a public sewage system than it is to use a septic tank. A septic tank would be a more cost-effective alternative if your property is greater than an acre. The cost of installing a tank varies depending on where you live, the type of device you need, and the size of the tanks required. In the long term, the cost of a septic tank pump, pumping, and tank maintenance would be less than the cost of using a public sewage system. So, just search for a septic tank rental near me to install a septic tank to achieve more convenient waste disposal.
If maintained properly and drained on a regular basis, a septic tank will last many years. Septic tanks usually last between 20 and 40 years. With good care and repair, a septic tank may be used for a longer period of time. Finding the right provider to maintain the tank on a regular basis and avoid clogs and other problems is critical.

i know i'm 4 minutes late but can i please put in a vote for mobster!kylo?? (love you and your fics!!)
Each Eye (Chapter 2 Sneak Peek!)
(warnings: gun violence mention, blood mention, injury mention)
——————–
You’re used to it by now, the sight of him covered in blood.
He’s careful, always so careful, to not let any drip onto the floors, onto the carpeting. He hates seeing the stains, hates having to hire cleaners to get them out. But he’s dripping now, too out of it to really know what he’s doing, body on autopilot as he makes his way to the bathroom.
“Clothes off honey.” You motioned for him to step near you, onto the protective plastic sheet you liked to put down when he’s like this.
You’re already there, sitting on the counter of the lavish master bath waiting for him. You’ve got the first-aid kit by your side on the large marble countertop, bandages and things for stitches and all sorts of anti-bacterials and anti-septics and anti-who-knows-what-else.
Well, you know.
You’re used to it.
“Help?” He asked, only able to do so much in his current state.
You nod right away, help peel him out of his suit. It’s Armani this one, vintage. You bought it for him for his thirty-fifth birthday last year, got it specially tailored to fit his wide shoulders. You inspected it for bullet holes or stab wounds, and were so relieved to find none.
Once he was down to his white tank top and boxers in front of you, you brought your hands to cup his face ever so gently.
“Show me?” You kiss his lips just the tiniest bit, voice soft.
You made sure to be soft, gentle with him when he came back to you like this. He needed that, that calm. There was always so much yelling and chaos whenever Kylo had to take care of someone, so much screaming. You’d seen it yourself on the occasions where he’d brought you with him. Never from him of course; he had always been unusually quiet, Snoke had always said so. Snoke was gone, but that didn’t matter.
What mattered was Kylo was there with you now, stepping even closer between your legs, blood dripping onto your thigh.
“Just here,” He lifted his hands up, showing you his busted knuckles.
Someone else’s this time, thank god, you thought looking up at his blood-splattered face.
“Rinse and spit.” You hand him a glass of mouthwash, knowing he’s got blood staining his teeth and wanting it out of his mouth.
He did as he was told, as you told him to.
Kylo was definitely a puncher, you thought with a smile as you carefully picked up the warm wash-cloth from a bowl of soapy water and wiped him down, first tending to his face to just get the shit off of him. He’d need a proper shower to get the blood out of his hair, it was sticking and making those beautiful raven locks of his go piecey, but you just wanted him to be able to look normal first.
“Did you have fun?” You asked, your way of asking if the job was a success.
He nodded, and you smiled again, wringing out the washcloth and getting the last of the blood off his face.
“Good, I’ve made your favorite dinner.” You said, tucking some of the sticky hair away from his face. “It’s waiting for you downstairs after we have a shower.”
“Thanks honey, I’m starving.” He said, leaning in to kiss your cheek softly. The thought of dinner alone made his stomach growl loudly, and that was the first time you saw him crack a smile in three days.
“Remember when you used to do this alone?” You asked, finally addressing his knuckles.
They really weren’t as bad as they normally are when he comes home to you like this, tonight they’re only split open, but not down to the bone or anything. He must have just shot him more than necessary to get the kind of spattering that he had.
“Yeah it’s why I’ve got this fucking scar, botched stitches job.” He quirked another smile – two in one night, what a rarity!
“Mhm, and now you’ve got me to make them nice and even for you.” You grinned up at him, dabbing the knuckles with alcohol and ointment to make sure they don’t get infected. Kylo didn’t even flinch when you wrapped them up in the bandages, either too numb or too used to it, you couldn’t tell.
“You make everything better.” He said, ducking his head to kiss you better.
You kissed him back, let him crowd against you, hands roaming your back, holding you so close. Your hands went to his hair instinctively, forgetting for half a moment that it was still sticky with blood. You didn’t mind so much, now that you were sure it wasn’t coming from anywhere on him.
Kylo kissed and kissed you, starving yes, but for you, for your touch. He made soft sounds in the back of his throat, either a whine or a grunt you weren’t sure. He stole your breath away, noses bumping together as the kiss deepened and he held you just tight enough to make you gasp a little into his mouth.
When he had his fill – for now anyway – he pulled back and rested his forehead against yours.
“I don’t like staying here while you go out.” You said softly, toying with the silver star that sat right in the pit of his throat.
“I know.” He said back, leaning in to kiss you softly once more before stepping back and turning the shower on, letting the water heat up.
—————-
that’s all for now folks! Thank you so much for voting and I hope you enjoyed

DRRM: Brgy. Sangandaan, Proj. 8, Q.C., LAGING HANDA!
As a freshman in the University of Santo Tomas, we are required to take up this course called NSTP (National Service and Training Program), and we’re currently focusing on what we call DRRM (Disaster Risk and Reduction Management). So what are all these and what do we do? Basically, we learn and get to know more about the different communities in the country, and how we can do our part and contribute to the overall well-being, happiness, and safety of the people who live in it. DRRM is grounded and focuses on four thematic areas: Disaster Prevention and mitigation, Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Response, and Disaster Rehabilitation and Recovery.
For the past 7 years that I’ve lived in the humble and thriving community of Brgy. Sangandaan, I’ve never had the chance to interact with the people who worked in the barangay hall or office. And now, I’ve recently had the chance to have a walk and “kwentuhan” with one of the local head persons of our barangay’s DRRM: Sir Fidel Nisperos.
December 9, 2019, I visited the brgy. hall. All of the staff and workers who were there were very patient, kind and accommodating. And as I was waiting for Sir Nisperos, I was able to observe that the place has a very happy and healthy working environment, and all seemed very close to one another. This even brought a smile to my face.
Sir Fidel was kind enough to accommodate an interview with me even without prior schedule or notice. He enlightened me and shared with me almost entirely everything I needed to know about our barangay’s DRRM.
We first identified and analyzed the hazards, calamities, dangers, that may affect and disturb the peace and safety of the community. Sir mentioned a few specific incidents and calamities that have already occurred: in 2012, a large fire spread across 100 homes affecting around 200 families; in Bagyong Ondoy the floods were so great that it surpassed the height of an average Filipino and the height of three-story townhouses. We are now preparing for “the Big One”.
So how does DRRM prepare for this? To identify a nearing threat, they always stay updated with the weather forecast. They often hold earthquake drills (quarterly) in areas like the Savemore supermarket (Project 8) and the Villagers Montessori, because these are the places where a lot of people mostly gather. They are always alert and standing by, since the Blue ridge, Libis in Q.C. is the nearest fault line to us. Their evacuation emergency plan for any kind of calamity, is to escort people to the designated evacuation centers, namely: first plan is at the Mendoza covered court, then Ismael Mathay Sr. High school, since both are of the highest places in the district, and there are a lot of buildings. If ever it is too full, next is to evacuate to the church beside the Brgy. Hall, the Immaculate Conception Church. Last resort is to the private village, Paradise Village’s covered court (given their consent).
When it comes to mitigation, He said that they first look back at the previous incidents and what may have caused things to happen, and what may have gone wrong. As for instance, during Bagyong Ondoy, there wasn’t enough mitigation for it, and since then, the government has been continuously cooperating with the different districts to ensure that everyone is prepared. They also conduct inspections of hazards, such as large trees that may cause harm to people and houses next to them, so they eventually have to cut these trees down. They also frequently de-clog the sewers, and provide dissemination programs on proper cleaning of the home and environment to avoid illnesses and viruses such as Dengue, and hygiene programs.
We took a little walk around, this when we talked about the Depressed areas and the Informal settlers who live by the river and underneath the bridge. He said it to be one of their main concerns for a number of reasons: they are one of the main causes of the river’s pollution; it is dangerous to live underneath the bridge and beside the river, since one can easily fall into the river, or during storms, floods may easily surge them due to its overflow; they are the poorest in the society, therefore they don’t have the right drainage and septic tanks that enable them to avoid floods; since they are the ones usually most affected during calamities, most of the funds for financial assistance goes to them. At this moment they are still waiting for the government’s approval and provision for them to be relocated, and they are continuously encouraging them to consider this. This has to be one of the most hazardous places. Another is that there are a lot of stray dogs by the route I pass towards home, and two or three times they’ve already barked or threatened me (but didn’t harm me thankfully).
One of the safest spaces in the barangay has to be the area within the Brgy. Hall, beside it the Church and beside the Church is the Health Center. Having these three geographically close to one another gives (if not all, to me personally) a sense of security, safety, ensurance, and community. Personally based on my observation, one of the best practices my community has is cleanliness. I walk from place to place around the barangay very often, and I have hardly seen any trash such as wrappers or plastics lying around.
In addition to these, I asked Sir Nispenos about the specific and various programs for the PWD, elderly, and the youth. For the Pwd, they have a list and record of them so that they’d know who to prioritize. For the Senior Citizens, they do their best to screen and identify the senior citizen indigents so that the people who first get the government pensions are those who really need it. And lastly for the Youth, there are life training programs, especially for those out of school, such as welding, automobile, call centers, sewing and dressmaking, cosmetology, etc. For those who wish to study, there are several scholarships offered, supported by the government and the diocese of Cubao.
Personal insights
I think one of our main issues and concerns in our community is poverty. This has been the most obvious yet unresolved and dominating issue in our country, and I can see it clearly everyday as I pass by the bridge where the informal settlers live. Based on my own knowledge on politics and government programs, support and services, I think the government should focus on helping these informal settlers both find a proper home, and gain a sustainable way of earning money and making a living. The government should support them in a way that sometime in the near future they are then able to eventually support themselves. As Sir Fispenos said, most of the funds go to them since they are always the most affected, due to lack of resources, nd the lack of resources come from lack of sustainable jobs and income. Therefore, the cycle goes all over again. The allocation of our budget tends to be quite messy at times, but then again there are a lot of issues and concerns that need focus and I hope the government recognizes this. I simply realized how blessed I am to be able to live a comfortable life. I am thankful for the everyday blessings of having a happy and complete family, a religious community and a solid group of friends who are always there to support me, a roof over my head, having food to eat three or more times a day, studying in a prestigious university, and knowing and having a deep relationship with God. These things I try not to take for granted every day, and I eventually realize that everyone, every single child of God deserves to be loved and to be blessed with happiness and peace, all the days of their lives. That’s why we must in return share these blessings given to us. It is important to be socially aware of these issues and kinds of things, because it strengthens our sense of community, and helps us empathize more with the people around us. One concrete way is to be more active in social development programs, like me not only in NSTP, but in my religious org. wherein I am able to reach out to different kinds of people at different states of life. One suggested way is to also create my own action plan, so that I am able to openly share my personal thoughts and takes on an issue then it may eventually contribute to the greater good.

Find Out How Your Plumbing System Works
Part of your responsibilities as a homeowner is to take good care of your property. Otherwise, you'll say goodbye to your hard-earned money or see more of it go to waste. Aside from your appliances emergency plumbing near me and furniture, your home's plumbing is also another important facet that you have to maintain. Your water heater should be flushed regularly. Your drains should be kept clean to prevent clogging. Foreign objects should not get flushed down the toilet in order to keep it in good condition. But do you know that aside from maintenance, knowing how the plumbing system works likewise provides great advantages? First of all, familiarity with it will allow you troubleshoot issues. Knowledge of the system and its components will also help you perform DIY fixes, therefore saving you money on repairs and professional plumbing service fees. With that being said, let me share some basic information to describe how your plumbing works.
Your home plumbing is comprised of two subsystems: the clean water line and the sewage line. Obviously, the freshwater line is the one responsible for supplying your faucets, showers and toilets with clean water that you use for cleaning, cooking and taking a bath. Clean water comes from the main water lines of your provider; goes into your pipes and passes throughout the system with the help of pressure. The meter that's installed outside your house registers the amount of water that gets into your pipes. It is also important to know that there's a main shut off valve situated near the meter. Turn it off during emergencies such as when pipes burst to prevent flooding.
Now remember that only cold water comes from the main supply line. Hot water is delivered by your fixtures because of your hot water heater. What happens is that cold water gets into the tank of the heater; gets warmed up to about 120 degrees then comes out of your faucets and showers whenever you require it.
The other subsystem I mentioned earlier is the sewage line. Have you ever wondered where all the soiled water and waste materials you produce go? You might have noticed that you have drains everywhere you have plumbing fixtures. Your toilet even has a drain of its own. All the waste materials that go down your drains are carried by your drainage pipes into your own septic tank or a public sewer where your home is connected to. If you have a septic tank, it is worth noting that soiled water and organic waste are treated in this heavy-duty container. The tank is usually made from plastic, concrete or fiberglass material and holds a specific amount of sewage depending on its size. With that said, you have to remember that septic tanks may fill up to the brim and even overflow. When that happens, backups occur.

Cleaning And Maintaining Your Septic Tank
A septic tank is a large container buried underground and has the purpose to treat wastewater that flows out from a home. These tanks are typically made from fiberglass, plastic, or concrete. Over a period of time, sludge and scum layers start to build up within the tank at a rate that’s faster than the draining of the tank.
In order to clean the septic tank, it’s important to remove the sludge and scum buildup. You should clean the septic tank on a relatively regular basis. Without cleaning the tank, the system has become inefficient and can’t effectively treat the wastewater that flows through it.
In order to obtain a septic tank cleaning every year identify when a tank cleaning should be performed. When the scum layer builds up within 6-8 inches of the basic outlet pipe in the tank, the system needs to be cleaned. The same is true when the lower sludge layer builds up around 12 inches away from the outlet pipe. However, it is hard to detect the scum and sludge layers within your septic tank, this is the reason it’s suggested that you contact a septic tank inspector to determine whether cleaning is needed. This article is an overview of the importance of septic tank cleaning and what this type of cleaning entails.
If you’re planning about having your septic tank cleaned, consider doing so around once every year or two. When you clean your septic tank on a regular basis, you become confident that the system will remain effective and in good condition. The four separate elements that are necessary to complete a septic tank cleaning near me include:
Inspection and pump frequency
Using water efficiently
Proper waste disposal
Maintaining the drain-field area
Keep in mind that certain components require an inspection on a more regular basis. If you have an outfitted septic tank with mechanical components, electrical switches, or pumps, an inspection of these components must take place once every year. Think about obtaining a service contract if more frequent inspections are needed for your system.

Pump Services
Domestic sewage pumps system made makes it possible for positioning in the vicinity of the underside or maybe in the bottom on the sewage basin. In most cases, this sump send have immersed from the emptying are. The positioning of the send in the bottom on the acquiring exhausted techniques including septic tanks makes it possible for swifter move associated with effluents. An australian pumps consumption will always be discover at the acquiring drainage is critical system. That closeness towards the drainage is critical system allows swift move associated with fluids and sound waster if your system becomes turned on.
DTB Pumps systems come in various shapes and sizes and can end up being devised for the two common and specific apps therefore you need to precisely what ones fundamental requirements tend to be ahead of placing your order one of these brilliant appliances. The vast majority of housing plus business domestic plumbing waste materials line methods utilise common stormwater pump sewage systems for their desires tend to be common when compared to particular pumping systems that are prepared for a number of industrial applications.
Our pump service offers produced a variety of submersible system regarding commercial and every day use. These people perform quit just by working with bulbs. A pumps get tanks. Whenever sound and water wastes have purged in to the fish tank, the quantity associated with waster from the fish tank boosts up to a selected preset level where transition is brought on on. A lamp invokes this send to exchange on and commence pumping. When the sewage method is clear, this bulbs have diminished so that you can a clear preset indicate induce the machine to exchange off.
A way of measuring associated with strength usage of pumps is horsepower (HP). A horsepower fees array amongst ½ HP and 1HP. The size and the effectiveness of sewage pumps can determine through the quantity of sewage and waste materials water that will get transported from the pump. The volume of waste materials water or maybe sewage transported by the Minor Huge pumps becomes indicated around quantities of gallons every hour.
Find well pump service near me so you can be found in difficult to cope with mashed sound wastes in addition to water wastes. Nevertheless, often this sewage pumps have obligated to control sound wastes. All these sound wasters involve sound ingredients that will get disposed straight in the lavatories just like plastic hoses and bottle of wine tops. In connection with this, sewage pumps, for the purpose of residential and commercial use can come have real profit cope with sound wastes as much as 2 inches around diameter. When using sewage system, proper care must be taken never to dispose large things in the sewage system because the pumps would possibly not manage to move these individuals effectively.

I wanted to spend less time reblogging and focus on making this Tumblr a little more personal -- so I’m going to tell the story of Tar. These photos are in order from the day I found him to roughly the day he passed away. It is my absolute dream in life to be a wildlife rehabilitator, falconer, and environmental educator. It is tough, I will admit, being twenty-seven years old and struggling to work full-time and follow my passion. I knew I wanted to be an advocate for wildlife when I met Tar. Tar was an eastern painted turtle that I discovered in the middle of the road back in 2015. He was extremely close to becoming roadkill. In fact, as I was getting out of the car to help him cross the road, a vehicle came less than a foot from actually running him over. When I picked him up, however, I quickly realized he was injured. In the first photo, you can clearly see a small dollop of blood on his nose. The CORRECT thing for me to have done was contact a wildlife rehabiitator, but I was much more naive then and thought I would take personal responsibility for him. I was also worried that, because of the state he was in, that the choice to euthanize him would have been too easy to make. Tar lost his eyes somehow. I don’t know what happened, but I assumed that he had come in contact with some natural predator and they really clawed up his face. In the second picture, you can see just how dire his situation was. He didn’t look like he could live for long, and I doubted he would. It took a lot of research because when I first found Tar, I didn’t even know what species he was. I had no idea about the natural history of painted turtles. I didn’t even know he was semi-aquatic. The first few nights he spent with me, he spent them in an aquarium lined with paper towels. Eventually I transitioned him over to a plastic bin with a heat lamp and a platform to bask. He was very stressed when I handled him, and I think that stress was doubled because he couldn’t see a thing. He peed on me a few times, which I have come to learn was a natural defense mechanism. Tar had other problems than just his nose, though. He had a respiratory issue-- he breathed very loudly, sometimes gasping. He also had minor damage to his shell. I guessed that he was fairly old, because he definitely looked to have come in contact with his fair share of scraps before. I used an anti-septic cream and a q-tip to gently clean the area around where his eyes should have been. I cleaned the tissue that remained of his eyes, too, and every few days I would press him gently between my knees and pry open his mouth to give him antibiotics. I had no idea how to even dose them at the time, so after a few days of guessing and only giving tiny increments, I learned to weigh him, cut it in half to account for the weight of his shell, and continue dosing. Tar didn’t eat for a month and a half, but his respiratory problems went away and the remaining tissue that was his eyes dried up and shriveled. I had to very carefully remove it with tweezers and a small knife. I stopped cleaning the area when skin healed over his eye sockets-- you can actually see how it scabbed over in the fourth and fifth photos. The third shows the dried remainder of his eyes. After all the struggles in terms of his injuries passed, the biggest and next hurdle to jump was figuring out how he was going to eat. I honestly thought that he would just waste away, but one day I came home to discover the large collard green leaf I had left floating in his tank had been eaten. That was the moment I was overcome with this feeling of just pure happiness-- something I do not feel often. It was then that I knew I wanted to do this for other animals one day. Food was hard for Tar to find, especially when I moved him to an even larger tank with better space and more areas for him to explore. He bumped into the edges of his enclosure a lot, but eventually learned to feel his way around. He basked just like a normal painted turtle would, legs stretched out and just taking in all the warmth. Eventually we came up with a feeding system-- I taught him that when he felt my hand around his shell, he was about to be fed. That coupled with the strong scent of river shrimp worked wonders. He would eat from tweezers while I held him still. Once he had it in his mouth, I’d let him go and he would tear it up with his foreclaws and eat.
He had come so far since I found him and I felt so proud of him for surviving and proud of myself for not giving up and actually managing to rehabilitate him with success. Of course, I took it upon myself to decide that he was never going to be released-- he just wouldn’t have made it in the wild, so I gave him a permanent home with me. Unfortunately, two years later, Tar died. I found him on the bottom of his tank one morning in March. He had a very nice burial. I thanked him for the lessons he taught me, and said goodbye to my old friend. If you find a wild animal in need of help, please contact a wildlife rehabber near you. Or make an effort to know the ones who are licensed in your state. I was blessed to have given this painted turtle, who very likely would have only survived another day or more had I not found him, two more years.

An event(s)
It seems like anytime we (the House of Gort and its various residents) are reminded of the impermanence of the world we also receive reminders of the things in life that just don't matter too much.
The day after we met with our family counselor to discuss Gwen’s health (and first realized what was ahead) the House of Gort decided to literally fall apart.
Violet came upstairs to inform us that “there is water pouring from ceiling downstairs..." in a non-emergency, nonchalant, matter-of-fact kind of way kids do. Of course, we escalated this news to priority one. I turned the water off and called the plumber, thinking it may be related to our recent renovations.
The plumber, however, was baffled by this leak, as it couldn’t be duplicated once we turned the water back on. So, exploring he went. By exploring, we mean cutting random holes in our ceiling big enough for one’s head to see what may or may not be happening.
After making three holes he consulted with his boss, and they determined that our furnace humidity pump, where the line inserted into the drain, had leaked during a random drain backup that eventually resolved itself. Suspiciously weird, right?!
Either way, he fixed it. And later that day, I took Violet skiing with her friends for some sense of normalcy before we had our meeting with our counselor to discuss Gwen with Violet (on the day after).
A few of us adults have a pretty good system of sharing skiing with the kids and then taking alternating to take powder runs. This allows the big kids to get turns down the bigger, softer runs while the kids do the same hill over and over.
But toward the end of the night during one of my big kid runs, my emotions began intermingling with the skiing (always a dangerous combination). I pushed myself harder and harder past my limits until I found a big chunk of ice, caught an edge, fell hard and bounced off my head.
I shook it off, and decided to stay on the kid runs realizing I was a danger to myself. Stiff neck and back aside I healed up quickly thanks to a chiropractor adjustment.
Our counselor meeting with Violet the next day went well, and we openly discussed the news ahead. Her sweetness has been so integral throughout this process, and we feel that afterward the emptiness will settle in fully.
A big help with Violet and Eliza, in addition to our two caregivers, has been our dear friend, Krysta. She’s the very first caregiver we hired after moving to the U.P., and has been through quite a bit with us.
After she found about Gwen, she cleared her work schedule in Minneapolis and made drive to be with Gwen and our family, planning to stay only a few days and then return.
She was able to be around for another House of Gort fall apart, when on Monday, we noticed (Regina had mentioned it several days before) that "water" seemed to be running out of the top of our septic cover.
I guess I should have know when the snow around it had melted at lightning speed. I contacted our local septic guy who could come by later that morning to tell me that our drain field is backing up, and we'll need to get a temporary septic tank put in until spring arrives (which is like a year away).
Meanwhile, inside the House of Gort, we'd already had our hospice meetings and our "philosophy change" is well underway. Life, real life, not shit, is happening inside the house.
Outside, the poor septic guy, who I tell “life is happening in my house right now” tells me sometimes these newer tanks have a filter that can save your drain field, and told me to start digging around the snow to find "it." Not knowing what I was digging for or where "it" was I began throwing many some feet of snow, making a haphazard maze around the back of the yard.
As he returns to the overflowing tank with his giant vacuum hose, he tells me it's not that far away...it should be close to this area as he points and begins to "vacuum." I continue to heave snow…I could have done this all damn day.
"Well look at that, the filter is right here. You are quite lucky because that's more than likely what's causing it to backup. The problem is that we usually clean these with a garden hose."
I scrambled to find a hose, a plastic bin and we cleaned said filter while he reminded me of the kinds of “things” that kill septic systems and that I should remind my household of that.
Another problem solved heading into the next day to prepare for our dear Krysta to return home. Her car, however, had different plans. It decides to quit shifting. Thankfully, our local repair shop in Gwinn squeezed it in but they couldn’t read what was going on.
We call our friend’s dad, who owns a shop and is a Ford expert, and he stays late to look at the car, and jumps into it head first the very next day. Seven error codes later and only one problem solved, it turns out to be dealer/warranty thing but the dealer is booked solid for two weeks. Gwen laughs at all of it.
Our local garage knew a guy in parts at the dealer so they call him and get the car in today. Got to love the love that people show. Meanwhile, we get Krysta for a few more days and continue our celebration, grief and love festival for Gwendolyn.
All of this reinforces our philosophy if money can fix it, it’s not too bad. Humor can always be found in the darkest of times. Chaos is always all around us but imagine that most of the time it’s just not as bad as our discursive mind chatter makes it.
This may seem like a random list of comic distractions but timing of them provided a healthy dose of humor, and in the end they all worked themselves out. But life is still happening in our home, and I quickly reshift my focus.
We’ve all (Kiva won’t leave her bed) manage to continue to spend our time with Gwen - who continues to be comfortable and surrounded by love from near and afar. We’ve told her it’s OK to go, and that we will carry her with us, always.
Please know that Gwen’s health is declining very quickly, and we don’t know how much longer she will be with us. Please continue to send positive vibes to all of us.

Are you a new subscriber? Welcome, this is a pretty interesting newsletter for your first one if I don't say so myself!
Have you done the rodeo with me a few times being a seasoned subscriber? I think you'll agree this is a dandy newsletter edition.
This and That - Save $$$$$
I often share things that I've had a great experience with or that save me money.
I want to put out a great word for AAA. Yes, the American Automobile Association. I'm not getting anything from them for this mention.
I used to be an AAA member back 45 years ago. You'd get those crazy paper TripTiks to show you how to get to your vacation destination. You'd get the paperback books with all the lodging suggestions. There were other benefits too. I stopped being a member decades ago.
Anyway, fast forward to a year or two ago. If your auto insurance is like mine, your agent, or the company, tells you that you get "roadside assistance, free tows, blah blah blah" as part of your car insurance policy. It's all FREE FOR LIFE.
That's a crock of you-know-what. I had to have my truck towed twice two years ago because of a broken brake line. I had to call my agent about a piece of broken glass on my other car. I was paying for full glass coverage with no deductible and she said, "Oh, wait. You have two claims already this year. I wouldn't put in a claim for this glass if I were you."
You know about the well-hidden 'three strikes and you're OUT' rule in insurance, don't you??? CALL YOUR AGENT and ask about it.
"What? What CLAIMS???" I retorted.
"Well, I see here where WE had to PAY to have your truck towed twice."
"But that's FREE!"
"No it's not. Those are CLAIMS."
I was fuming. Yes, I know nothing in life is free, yadda yadda yadda.
I'm also against unethical business practices and the telling of half truths.
You know a half-truth is a whole lie, don't you?
That's why when you're sworn in on a witness stand you say, "I swear to tell the truth, the WHOLE truth and nothing but the truth." I've had to swear that countless times in my career as an expert witness.
Days later I received in the mail a promotion - I wonder if AAA has my phone tapped????? - for AAA, I opened it, saw what the price was and immediately signed up.
Guess what? I had to have Kathy's car towed because we thought an idler pulley issue might have been a timing chain going bad, I had to have my truck towed again because of a minor issue and two weeks ago, I had to buy rear brake rotors, pads and one caliper for my truck for a grand total of $450.00.
The salesmen at my local NAPA store said, "Are you a AAA member?"
Heck yes I am!
BOOM, I saved $45 on that order!
The bottom line is I've already PAID for my membership in savings this year and MORE.
I'm sure there are other discounts I'm missing out on at other businesses.
CHECK OUT AAA for yourself. You don't even have to own a car to belong.
Flushable Wipes VIDEO!
Well, it took days to setup, record and edit. It's also got a very interesting ending for you!
But the video is done. I had some fun producing the video. I'm pretty certain you'll laugh at parts of this video. Do you have grandkids? You may not want them to see this as it will give them a few ideas!
Kathy helped me as I needed a second hand 70 feet away to hit the record button each time I flushed the toilet while I was up on the pipe scaffolding.
Suffice it to say the flushable wipes manufacturers are going to be none too happy!
Would you consider doing me a huge favor?
If you use social media at all, would you consider SHARING this video????
This video has the potential to go VIRAL because it can save millions of people BILLIONS of dollars in sewer-cleaning or septic-tank service calls.
All I ask you to do is post the following URL to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or whatever network you use. SHARE the following URL far and wide please.

Just say something about how you know me and let's see if we can't SAVE people LOTS of SWEET MOOLA as well as frustration from having their sewers clog up!!!
You'll see the video near the top of my column. See that clear plastic bin with my hand in it???? That's the video.

How To Stay Cool
Look at the following thermal image of the roof above my front door. It faces due south. Can you see the white crosshairs and the temperature reading???
It’s no wonder your attic is blistering hot. My roof temperature exceeds 162 F and that heat radiates into my attic and then into my home. (C) Copyright 2019 Tim Carter
Yes, your eyes are correct.
162.9 F
That's hot enough to cause second-degree burns on your skin in about two seconds. That's the voice of experience talkin'.
That's hot enough to get your roof framing (timbers, trusses, sheathing, etc.) hot enough to radiate heat like embers in a campfire.
That's hot enough to make sure your inside attic temperature is 140 F or so.
What's the best way to offset this wretched summer heat?
CLICK or TAP HERE for a list of things you can do to help lower your electric bills and to be more comfortable during HOT weather.
Heat Pump Research
Do you heat and cool your home with a heat pump? I need your help.
By any chance do you have a geothermal system that tricks the heat pump inside A coil into thinking it's 50-55 F outside?
If you use a heat pump I ask that you help me get some data for one of my national columns I'm about to write.
CLICK or TAP HERE please and fill out the very short survey. You'll need to know the AVERAGE amount you spend each month for electricity. I'm just talking about your entire bill, not the portion for your heat pump.
You will NOT have to enter your name or address. I don't need to know that, but it would be nice to know your postal code so I have an idea if you live on the frozen tundra!
THANKS in advance and I'll be SURE to share this column with you very soon.
Dvorak Typing
Last issue I left a tantalizing breadcrumb at the end of my newsletter about how I type. I use the Dvorak typing method.
Just about every computer known to woman or man has the Dvorak keyboard BUILT INTO it. Yes, you still look at and use the QWERTY keyboard on your machine, but when you press the different letters on the QWERTY keyboard, DIFFERENT letters appear on your screen.
I switched over about fifteen years ago to minimize fatigue from typing all day and to get MORE done FASTER. Dvorak typists can type so much faster than those who type the QWERTY way.
CLICK or TAP HERE to discover more about this unique way to type and to render your stolen laptop useless. Why? When the person starts to type on it, jibberish comes out! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Discover how to turn this feature on and off if you work on your office computer so that your wretched spying office-mates can't hack into your computer while you're at lunch!
That's enough for a Sunday morning.

Flushable Wipes Clog Sewer
