According to the Philippine Franchise Association as reported by BusinessWorld, amidst the decline in franchises brought about by the challenges of COVID19 there is an emergence of new market opportunities as well. These opportunities include fitness products, PPEs, inexpensive indulgences, homeschooling, healthcare, counseling, professional cleaning, and crematorium services. After the pandemic, PFA Chairman Emeritus Sammie Lim noted that stores promoting hobbies, arts, crafts, board games, and gardening will prosper (though I think our PlantTitos and PlantTitas would say gardening is already a lucrative venture!). PFA noted that the franchise sector had 200,000 outlets operating at the start of 2020 but is expected to be at 130,000 by the end of the year (and only 110,000 by March of 2021). PFA surveyed 720 of their members to find out what was the most challenging aspect of the pandemic.
