to find terebinthus (P. terebinthus) at a walking distance from my town is incredible, theyre indicators of ecological recovery or low human intervention
#funfacts about this plant is#its often found with galls that are shaped like chile or ''goathorns'' which also gives its name in spanish (cornicabra)#it produces a sticky resin that can be used as a trementine#theyre also close relatives of the pistachio#belonging to the same genus#plantourage

for some reason i convinced myself this was oregano. i never checked it up i just assumed it must be. but yesterday i was working with my seeds and investigated a little bit to identify some of them and i stumbled upon the inevitable fact that the seeds i had planted and the oregano seeds look actually completely different lmao. anyway say hello to the melissa officinalis babies
#it either works for me because i want to use them to attract polinators and the word melissa contains the world honey in it#it also apparently repels mosquitos just like citronella due to that lemon scent#cool#plantourage

i dont think that if i introduce A. hippocastanum here it can become invasive, and i base myself on these guesses:
it is a slow growing species with a prolonged juvenile state
some paleobiological analysis indicate that this genus used to be present all over Europe and north Africa
the seed is very liked by wildlife like deer and boars
genetically this species is very vulnerable and theres likely no enough diversity to create a stable population
this genus needs a lot of water to prosper and mostly grows in ravines or in places with continuous flow of water
#these seeds come from three individuals that are probably clones#plantourage#would likely survive in a river ecosystem and be specially favoured by water flows for seed dispersal tho...
