neil keeps a secret candy stash under his bed bc he's obsessed w candy and welton doesnt let them have fun. he keeps all of his and todd's favorites in there. neil loves fruity and sour candy (his favorite is skittles) and todd likes chocolate candy (snickers). they go downtown every couple weeks to restock it because neil is a candy vacuum. todd usually takes a month to finish his.

an open window. nolan has instructed the boys time and time again to close it when they leave, and yet it always ends up open. it lets a cool breeze in during the first few weeks of the school year, when the heat is insufferable. one year, charlie opened it during a snowstorm. his face was immediately frozen, and he turned around slowly to the laughter of his friends, face covered in powdery flakes that melted just as quickly as they landed on him.
several mugs full of pencils. though they always start the year full with sharp utensils, it’s nearly guaranteed that two weeks in nearly every single one is broken, dull, or just gone. the boys have no idea that keating often re-sharpens the pencils for them after they’ve gone to bed.
a communal calendar. it’s small, and often tucked in a bookshelf so it won’t get into the wrong hands. there are pictures of the city on every page. todd’s brother gave it to him. every person on their floor wrote down their birthday, and it’s checked nearly every day. the days when spring, winter, and summer break begin are marked with bold, red letters that read “FREEDOM”.
a wall of pictures, in the nook by the window. they’ve been putting them up for so long that many of the faces are unrecognizable. the poets like to play a game where they try to figure out who the person is, where they’re from, who they are now. they’re usually wrong, but once, they were right.
a toolbox. this is mostly for meeks & pitts & their lovely little inventions. i like to think one of pitts’ brothers or something told him to bring a toolbox “just in case”, and though he thought it was stupid at the time, the wrenches and screwdrivers and things that are in there allow him to make things that he never thought were possible.
a globe, the really nice kind that’s almost as tall as your waist and spins every which way. they’re meant to use it for geography assignments. sometimes todd and neil play a game where they’ll spin it as fast as they can, close their eyes, and stop it. they have to explain everything they know (or make up) about the place where their finger lands, and why the other simply HAS to go there.
one single strand of black hair. i know this sounds dumb. BUT if dps takes place in 1959 then i can make this work. charlie came in after a break with something in his hands. and cameron was DYING to know what is was because he wouldn’t tell him. turns out it was this one piece of hair. and so he was like “dalton what the hell is that i don’t even know what to say”. charlie insists it’s a piece of elvis’ hair. but he won’t say how he got it, where he got it, or give any proof whatsoever. despite that, it lives in infamy right next to the window. (until a strong breeze causes it to be lost, in which case charlie dalton will need a brief grieving period and the creation of a memorial.)
ok back to more normal stuff. pressed flowers and leaves. i’d like to think that this is something that todd just does, like he’ll just pick up flowers he likes and put them in heavy books like it’s nothing. and so when the other poets saw him do it for the first time, they were intrigued. he taught them all how to do it, and now there’s a shoebox nearly overflowing with the prettiest flowers and leaves you’ll ever see.
a lamp that’s most definitely a fire hazard. every time it turns on it fizzles and pops… it’s hum is nearly deafening. it’s always entertaining to see someone’s reaction to it the first time they see it. but the sound of the lamp seemingly self-destructing is strangely soothing -- to those who have been at welton for a long time, they see themselves in it. for though you’d think it would have exploded by now, it’s still standing, flickering and providing light despite all it’s been through.

"You were so amazing there Todd! I'm so proud of you!" Neil said as they both enter their shared room after a day of classes, which ended with Mr. Keating's classes and Todd giving another of his, according to Neil's opinion, amazing pieces.
Todd smiled at his compliment, though it never reached its eyes as he replies. "I'm not amazing, but thank you, Neil." And Neil frowns at the comment, ever since he met Todd, Neil often hears this from Todd. Especially when anyone would even compliment him for anything he did.
------------
He remembers the first time their first meeting along with Meeks, Charlie, and Knox, Charlie said an offhand comment saying that since he's an Anderson he must be very smart, to which Todd replied saying that his brother was smarter than him. Neil and Charlie shared looks at each other that time, they just met Todd but are both willing to protect them.
There was also the time they all first heard Todd's monologue during Mr. Keating's class, which the whole classroom loved to hear, even the non-poets complimented the usually meek Todd.
"That was amazing Todd, maybe you could help us think of one whenever Mr. Keating gives us another assignment!" Knox said once they were situated in the cave, lounging around until they had to come back for dinner.
"I'm not sure I'll be able to help," Todd replies refusing to meet Knox's eyes who looked confused.
"Todd you know you're really awesome, right? There's no need to always bring you down." It was Meeks who spoke, Pitts beside him nodding along.
"Am I really?" Todd questions and their scathing tone of it made the others hesitate in answering, while Todd was glaring on the floor the other poets looks at Neil, hoping that he was the one to reply, and Neil was, in fact as the look at him he's already about to speak.
"You are." Neil answered full of sincerity and emotion Todd looked at him as his cheeks turned rosy, and before he smile at Neil, a quiet yet comfortable silence filled the room before they heard the bell indicating it was almost dinner time.
As the poets walk back Todd was by Neil's side, the two of them walking on a slower pace than the others.
"Thanks Neil." Todd said and Neil smiled. "I don't get compliments that much, so I-" Todd sighs, and Neil waited until the other wanted to continue, "I guess I just don't believe in them," Todd said it with such sadness in his tone that it Neil's heart aches.
And from then on Neil vowed that he'll prove Todd wrong, that he was amazing, that he deserved all the compliments that were given to him. Every chance he got, he complimented Todd. Even for some things that would make Todd's eyebrow raise, he compliments it.
"You look amazing today." "Great job at answering Mr. Keating's question!" "You look so beautiful."
After a while, Todd began to notice what Neil was doing, so he would try to deflect most compliments given to him, feeling unworthy of such words.
Maybe a part of his mind wants him to give in and accept these compliments, that he deserves them. But a stronger part of his brain tells him that he doesn't deserve it, that he'll never amount into anything, as he'll never be as good as his brother.
This caused moments where the two would argue, it started playfully, but lately, due to Neil's frustration with Todd's deflection, it'll get heated, especially since it was around this time that Neil realized how much he cared about Todd, how much he wanted for Todd to see him how he sees himself.
--------
And that is where they find themselves in this situation.
"Todd," Neil starts. "You need to stop with the self-deprecation."
"N-Neil-"
"It's just..." Neil paces around the room. "You make yourself out to be this unlovable person when you're not."
Todd sighs. "Neil, can we please drop this?"
"No, we will not."
"Jesus Neil, why do you even care so much?" Todd asked, raising his voice.
Neil flinched, yet he stood his ground. "I care so much because I hate seeing you downgrade yourself too much then you deserve." Neil takes a breath before he continues. "I just wish you could see yourself the way that I see you!"
"Then tell me, Neil." Todd suddenly surges forward and suddenly he's close, oh so close that Neil can hear his breathing. "How do you see me?"
Neil was taken aback by the forwardness and found himself staring into Todd's eyes. "Amazing, I find you the most amazing person that I've met." He simply replies, his voice thick with emotion.
Todd eye's widened as he steps back, a cloud of disbelief clouds his eyes as he tries to laugh nervously, cheeks slowly turning scarlet. "If I didn't know better, you sound like you love me."
Neil felt a sudden burst of confidence "So what if I do?" Todd looks at him in disbelief, but before the other could speak he continued. "And even if I didn't I'll still tell you that you're amazing."
Todd finds himself speechless. "I..." Neil smiles at him, and a sigh of relief after finally being able to say what he feels to Todd.
"H-How? Why me?"
Neil takes this opportunity to walk closer to Todd. "That's too many to mention, that if we talk about it, it would take infinity before I'll ever stop talking." He takes Todd's hands, it felt cold in contrast to his warm ones, Todd must've been cold because he forgot to grab his sweater.
Neil finds himself as Todd looks at him as tears start to fall from his eyes. "I just ... It's hard Neil, given how my parents-" Todd was interrupted by his own sobs before Neil pulls him for a warm hug.
"I understand Todd, that's why I'm here to remind you that you are amazing. On days that you think you aren't I'll be there to always remind you that." Neil whispers to Todd's ears as Todd felt comfortable under Neil's arms.
They do fit together.
----------------------------------
Epilogue:
Todd nods snuggling closer to Neil as the two found themselves in comfortable silence before Todd speaks again.
"I don't think I've responded to your declaration of love yet."
"There's no need, I know you love me," Neil replies with a smirk.
Todd laughs and nods to that. It was true. "I do, but I want you to hear it from me," Todd said before he sits to look at Neil.
"At first I didn't ever expect that you'd ever fall in love with me, with someone like me." Neil was about to say something but Todd stops him. "And you saying all of that, you loving and supporting me, makes me believe that all those words you say are the truth and that I shouldn't listen to that voice in my head." He then takes a deep breath.
"I love you, Neil Perry." And he looks at Neil who is positively glowing, a wide grin on his face as he swoops to envelop Todd in a hug.
"I love you too, Todd Anderson," Neil replies as his lips settle on Todd's forehead and gave it a quick kiss.
And for the first time, Todd felt like he is amazing.

🩹 fuck it. pitts and his greek mom.
so her name is evaggelia
which is always shortened to either vaggelitsa, litsa, lia or something like that by her greek relatives
with most people she just uses lia.
pitts has three older and three younger siblings
his oldest sister is just finishing college and his youngest is 6
then in between of that there's three more sisters aged 13, 20 and 19 and and one more brother aged 11
so we're talking about,, a lot of sisters.
which im leaving up to you go nuts i already made priscilla meeks
his mom never worked because she has like seven children, which means that all of them were raised by her exclusively so of course they all speak greek
his dad doesn't like when they speak it because he's like the only one in the house who doesn't understand it but his dad is always away working anyways
pitts loves his family, he really does, but he's still a little bit embarrassed by them (as all teenagers are, after all)
because like, being in a family of 7 children is already loud and chaotic but being in a family of 7 children raised by a greek mom?
that's beyond loud and chaotic. that is wild nature.
plus his mom is always busy with something, so, yeah, not a lot of people have met his family and not a lot of people know he can speak greek because he's a humble king and doesn't usually mention it out of the blue
needless to say when meeks found out he freaked
mr. aced latin linguistics nerd with a love for greek mythology who just discovered his best friend can speak fluent greek? yeah.
pitts also gets like,,,, louder by 200% when speaking greek
look,,,, greek people yell at each other for no reason a lot. he'll talk on the phone with his mom and the rest of the boys will literally think they're fighting while he might literally just be asking her what they had for dinner.
the boys love her though, they don't get to see her often but pitts might stop by his house just to get a jacket and they'll end up staying for 3 hours and having dinner
she's also definitely one of those moms who seem to have made it their life goal to feed you to death
mf will just dump five pieces of pastitsio in your plate and you have to live with it
(for reference, a piece of pastitsio is that big)
Tumblr media
she will swear in front of the children constantly but if pitts says malaka he's literally banned from existence
she'll go on a rant about whatever adding a swear word every two words and then pitts like "yeah, you're right, olo malakies" (which basically means it's all bullshit) and she'll just
",,,,,,what did you just say to me?,,,,,did you say malakies to me? to your mother?"
greek swearing is honestly pretty wack and pitts already does that thing where if he's annoyed he'll just curse under his breath
so there's a lot of times where he'll slip up and go "to spiti sou mesa" and the boys will be like "what does that mean pittsie?"
and he's like ",,,,,what, like, as in, the direct translation? i said that i'll fuck his house."
",,,,,,that you'll what?"
"i-it's a figure of speech!"
pitts carrying a fuckton of unnecessary clothes to school with him because his mom insisted he needed them
pitts wearing jackets all year round even if it's july and ninety degrees because apparently it's the greek mom law
basically, greek families are a little,,, aggressive and unfiltered but it's all in good nature (which really explains a lot about pitts being so sarcastic and direct a lot of the time)
it's like a "everything goes mom's way because she 1) said so and 2) can yell the loudest" thing but in a way that's not causing any harm
plus his mom is one of the most respectable and admirable people pitts has ever met and you bet your ass she taught him to chug his respect women juice from a young age because mama pitts don't raise no bitch.
the end, i love her.

I Found a Reason ( To Keep Living)
My first anderperry fanfic set in the late 60s´ and early 70s´!
I had already posted the a03link to the first chapter but it doesn´t show in the tags for some reason (?) so i´m posting it here as well.
Summary: It is the fall of 1969 and the start of senior year at Wellton for the Dead Poets. The world around them is changing fast and soon they will have to decide what they want for their lives. Neil is struggling against his fathers wishes of becoming a doctor, while his roomate Todd is trying to find the confidence to allow himself to lead the life he wants. They connect through their shared loved for music and dreams of moving to New York ,but don´t quite know what to do when it comes to the feelings they have for each other. An ode to the dead poets and the counterculture of the 60s´.
Warnings for: underage smoking, underage drinking, period typical homophobia, police brutality ( mentioned), brief mentions of war, poor parenting
Chapter 1: Gimme Shelter
Neil Perry loved music, there was no other way to say it. Even before acting and performing, music had been his lifesaver in the ever-demanding life his father had already planned for him. Whenever he was feeling blue, he knew all he had to do was listen to his favourite records. He kept them in his closet, neatly ordered and hidden under piles of sweaters and other clothing items. Under the bed was the record player his mother had gifted him when he turned fifteen. His father had resisted at first, going on about how much it had costed and how much it was going to distract him from his classes. It took some help from his mother, but he let him keep it as long as he promised to use it “moderately and only after he was done studying”.
Neil had some records stored at home, but the ones he kept at Wellton were the ones that would get a disapproving look from his father and one or two of his professors. Most of the albums from the Beatles and the Stones, some Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Clapton, he had a bit of everything. It hardly mattered now that he was back at school, away from his father and his incessant demands. He listened while doing homework in the afternoon with the volume almost at the lowest just in case Hager was around. Saturdays were his favourite days because he would then take the record player to the school´s rooftop along with some records; the others would join him too. Charlie provided cigarettes and wine that nobody knew how he obtained. Pitts would bring snacks and when he was feeling particularly happy, he would dance along with Meeks. They spent their afternoons lazily listening and dreaming how their lives would be after Wellton. For Neil, sometimes it seemed as if there was no future. There was so much chaos in the world around them: the war, the civil rights movement, the riots at that bar in New York, the police brutality, the list was endless. Yet, all his parents could think of was getting him to medical school. He supposed they had a point; in a year he and all his friends would be eighteen, all eligible for the draft. Sure, he could play it safe for a year or so with the college defer but what if he wasn´t able to keep up with the workload? Pre-med wasn´t easy, he knew that much, and it did not help that he dreaded the idea of becoming a doctor almost as much as the idea of getting dragged to the jungle. Unlike Charlie, who kept bragging about how he would burn his draft card if he ever got called, Neil´s parents had no connections that could help him. He was certain Todd and Knox had them but the rest of them were screwed. Pitts had once told him that if he ever got drafted, he was done for. No way he would survive in the jungle. They had all seen the news coverage; it was a massacre. “Perry,” Charlie said on one of those afternoons, while rolling his eyes “Knoxious here wants to listen to Rubber Soul because he thinks that the Beatles are better than the Rolling Stones, can you believe it?" Neil sighed internally, the same thing happened with Charlie and Knox every time they listened to music. They would first argue about which record to play and then endlessly debate who had the better music taste. Since Neil was the owner of the record player, he unofficially had the power to ultimately decide which album to liste, and he often had to intervene between the two. “I didn´t say that Charlie,” Knox interrupted “I´m just saying they have more idea of what they are doing, what they want their music to sound like. Even Bob Dylan said so.” “Well Dylan hasn´t really been the same since he went electric right?” “Come on Charlie you love the guy” “Not relevant right now, Neil” he said while putting out his cigarette “I say we take a vote to settle this for once and all” He called to the other dead poets, who were mindlessly talking about the massive amount of workload they had barely a month into the fall semester. “What are we doing?” asked Pitts “Taking a vote on who is better: the Beatles or the Stones” Neil said hoping his voice conveyed the slight annoyance of the situation Cameron rolled his eyes all the way back to his skull “Not again” Todd was standing slightly behind Meeks not saying anything yet. His new roommate was still a bit of a mystery, one that Neil found himself drawn to immediately. He was a bit of detective, so he tried hard to be friendly and the payoff was that little by little he saw glimpses of what composed the entirety of Todd. He liked hot tea on the afternoons, he only liked to shower at night, he clasped his hands together when nervous, his favourite sweater was a blue woollen one, he wasn´t good at maths, such little things. The most important one Neil had noticed was that even if Todd didn´t speak his mind often, his brain worked a thousand miles an hour and when he spoke, he did it with power, like prophet. He had such a gift with words and probably so much to say; it made Neil a bit sad that he would not allow himself to do it. He didn´t quite know what it was, but he had bonded with Todd in a way he had never with anyone else in his life. He suppossed that is what some would call "connection" but there had to be another word for it. Everytime there was this electricity running through both of their bodies and pulling them together. He felt the static in every inch of him, amplifying every part of his soul. “Who do you prefer, Perry? Asked Charlie, pulling him out of his thoughts. Damn it, Charlie. “Look, I don´t know who is better but right now I would take Let it Bleed over Revolver any day of the week” “You are a man of taste, Meeks? Pitts? “Sorry Charlie,” said the ginger “but I prefer the Beatles, not the old stuff though” “I agree the old stuff sucks, but I´d rather go to a Stones concert” added Pitts. “Cameron?” “You should know that I don´t approve much of either but if I had to pick, I would go with the Beatles. No way I am listening to someone who calls themselves satanic” “Why did I even ask?” sighed Charlie. What about you Todd? asked Neil raising his brow. The blue-eyed boy jolted slightly; he knew he had the final decision in his hands. If he was completely honest, he was more of a Beatles guy himself. He found that the lyrics suited him better, the mellow sounds were more of his taste, and even the old cheesy stuff ,he found endearing. The problem was that Neil had said he preferred the Stones and he could not deny Neil anything, even if he wasn´t aware he was asking. Neil was special on his own: he had this energy and passion to live that Todd had never seen on anyone else. He loved everything and everyone so much. He was determined to share bits and pieces of his beautiful soul, some he might never get back, just to make his friends feel the same joy he radiated. Neil was also the first person who had not given up on Todd. He had tried to push him away for good as much as he could during their first days at Welton and yet Neil persisted, like the leaf that refused to fall of a tree. Soon enough Todd realised that talking to Neil was easy and lovely. They had developed this little game, an unspoken one, where they guessed each other with just a hand gesture or a smile. Neil could guess what Todd was feeling or thinking with just a glance and the other way around. He liked this game, he liked being predicted and basked in sheer happiness whenever Neil smiled at him, signalling that they were thinking the same. Wasn´t that beauty in this world? To finally be able to talk with someone? To laugh? To dance? To read? someone to a dream about? Maybe it seemed small for Neil but the kindness he had showed him made Todd cry every time he thought about it. He took a few more seconds to think before finally saying: “Sorry, Knox but lately I´ve been more into the Stones and their blues” “Oh, you guys are the worst” Everyone laughed and the first few notes of Gimme Shelter were heard. The sun was setting, and the air was filled with cigarette smoke, everything was perfect. Todd wanted to preserve this in his head, capture it like a short film he could go over and over every time he felt alone. He tried to take it all in and took the courage to glance at Neil´s direction. Todd was certain he would be there, looking with that secret smile of his. Their eyes met through the last beams of light the sun had to offer, and when he curved his lips into a playful smirk and then a smile, they both knew he was saying: “Liar, we both know you prefer the Beatles” Todd smiled back and slightly shrugged his arms “You are welcome, Neil”

whoops its 6:40 am and i promised this yesterday but here are some modern day dps headcanons
meeks is like. super fucking popular online. he has an instagram in which he takes photos and they get millions of likes since vermont is so fucking pretty. he sometimes asks his friends to pose and its amazing
neil becomes a teachers assistant for keating in his senior year, helping him teach the lessons. the juniors love him and they all kinda fall in love with him.
charlie is the musical.ly GOD okay dont fight me on this. he insists its cool and gets everyone to come and join him from time to time as they lip sync to kesha and justin bieber
knox eventually grows out of his crush on chris and tries to be the ‘relationship guru’ for his friends but unsurprisingly it ends disastrously every single time
neil drags them to vegan food restaurants ALL THE TIME, those ones with smoothies and kale? yeah those. (”it nourishes the body as well as the mind” “neil shut the fuck up im eating cardboard”)
pitts works in a radio station and the gang sometimes comes in to help him clean and calls in with prank calls when he requests songs. he says its annoying but pittsie loves his friends so much he doesnt really mind
charlie and neil have the longest fucking snapchat streak and when neil accidentally breaks it charlie literally threatens to beat the shit out of him
group chat name with cameron: dead poets society
group chat name without cameron: fuck cameron
in an effort to break away from sociatal norms, charlie starts to wear makeup and dress more feminine occasionally and really likes it. neil helps him with the makeup at first but charlie quickly becomes better with it than neil could ever be
meeks is a really good artist, both digitally and traditionally. of course the gang always asks him to draw them, but meeks never does it (well, maybe secretly but he never tells them)
todd, working to overcome his public speaking problem, starts to read more and is eventually asked to read some pieces in front of the freshman class to inspire them. eight kids cry openly and 4 more cry silently afterwards.
after neil starts to express himself and can finally be who he is, he comes out to his friends. they all accept it with open arms and ever since neil always wears a little rainbow flag on his backpack
knox is like... actually a really good singer? he sings the blues and its really nice. charlie gets huffy because he can lipsync it better than knox could ever sing it but nobody was impressed
of course, the flying desk set is a tradition strictly between neil and todd
since charlie is assbackwards rich the gang travels quite a bit, going to new york frequently and into canada
meeks accidentally hacked into the school website and changed the school banner from ‘welton’ to ‘smellton’
todd comes out next, all of them sitting around pitts house and he just says out loud ‘im gay’ they all joke that neil isnt special anymore but todd could cry from relief
the guys practically live at each others houses (except neils they never go to neils and neil tries to stay out of his own house as often as possible)
neil starts the lgbtqa club at welton, hosting it in keatings room and discussing queer history and whatnot. it takes a while, but he eventually convinces todd to join as well
i lowkey headcanon meeks as bi, and everyone finds out when charlie steals his glasses and meeks throws him off my smoochin him
todd and neils first kiss is SUPER awkward since they r both so excited and kiss as they walk home from their club meeting, softly holding hands in the cold
knox makes very good playlists, often angering pitts as he is the one who is suppose to be the dj
the whole gang gets matching tattoos saying ‘carpe diem’ afteer seeing keating has one he got during his ‘rebellious phase’
keating drives neil to therapy since his parents dont know and really becomes a father figure for neil
they even jokingly call each other ‘old man’ and ‘sport’
even when they graduate and go to college all over the country, they meet up in new york whenever possible and still remain closer than ever
they meet up in the cave one last time and read original pieces, carving their names into the surrounding trees so the forest can keep the secrets they had in the cave
