Ujjain: Rituals, ceremonies lined up for Mahashivratri

Rudra abhishek pooja-Ujjain: Devotees will not be allowed to enter the Garbhgrih on Shivratri, and darshan arrangements will be from behind the barricades in Nandi hall. This arrangement for darshan will continue till 5 pm on February 25.

Bhasm aarti will begin at 2 in the morning. From 7:30 to 8:15 am, Dadyodak aarti and from 10:30 to 11:15 am Bhog aarti will be performed in the Garbhgrih. On the occasion, there will be four entry gates each for different categories of devotees. General devotees will reach the temple via Mahakal ghati to Madhav Sewa Nyas, zigzag path at car parking, then second zigzag path at facility centre to entry gate. For the devotees with Rs 151 receipts, the path from Begambaag to Shankh square will be taken which will take them to facility centre. VIP devotees will enter from Mahakal Pravachan Hall. Divyang devotees and media people will enter from Bhasm aarti gate. On the occasion of Mahashivratri, the darshan arrangements will be from Nandi hall on February 24 and 25.

On the 8th day of Shiv Navratri being celebrated from February 16 to 24, lord Mahakal was unveiled in Shiv-Tandav appearance as hundreds of devotees waited in Nandi hall to have a glimpse of the lord in the new avatar. In the morning, pooja was performed for Chandra Maulishwar and Koteshwar Mahadev. Priest Ghanshyam Sharma with 11 priests performed a customary evening pooja and adorned the jyotirlinga with new green clothes and completed the Shiv Tandav shringar with silver narmund mala, kundal, moon and  garlands. Mayor inspects temple area

To ensure the best experience for the devotees on Mahashivratri, mayor Meena Jonwal visited the temple area with officials on Thursday. She directed that maintaining cleanliness and hygiene should be the foremost priority as devotees in large numbers had started to arrive in the area. She visited public toilets in the temple area and ensured that the facilities should not be compromised including water supply. She also visited Harsiddhi area, interpretation centre and Chardham temple area. A directive was issued to the food shop owners in the area to make sure the accessibility of dust bin outside their shops and that customers didn’t litter on the road, e fine will be borne by the shop owners.

Special city buses

To provide ease of access to Mahakaleshwar temple, the administration will run three city buses each from Dewasgate bus stand, Nanakheda bus stand and Tower Chowk every 20 minutes. Devotees can use these special arrangements by paying regular fare of the route.  The facility will be available till February 26, although for senior citizens and divyangs the facility will be free. Special counters

To ease procurement of special pass on Shivratri, Mahakal temple Management Committee has set up seven counters for devotees. Two counters for Rs 151 pass will be at Maharajwada School.  One counter each will be set up in front of Chardham temple, Harsiddhi square, behind Mahakal dharmshala, behind Madhav Sewa Nyas, on the road connecting Vikram Tilla and Mahakal temple. Four prasad counters will be at municipal food zone in front of exit gate.
