Athens is more than Plaka and Acropolis. About 10 mins taxi ride is the town of Pireaus, right by the Aegean Sea. It is the most important port in Greece, but also where all the locals go to eat fresh caught seafood at tavernas with gorgeous views of the coast. At @imerovigli_piraeus the owner even took us to the kitchen to choose our fish, fresh catch of the day. The Fisherman's Pasta (loaded with seafood), was one of the yummiest seafood platters we had our entire trip! 05/19/15 - Piraeus, Greece - ALL OF THE ABOVE - Greece is beautiful and thankfully, the people we meet are kind and helpful. Unlike the other countries we've been to so far, the rail system in Greece is not as developed which means more bus travel and almost no ability to see schedules or make required reservations in advance. This makes getting there a bit more of a fun adventure if you don't mind a little extra stress recovering from the little mistakes you might make along the way. Today the 'all of the above' plan was to take a bus to Kiato, a train to Athens, a subway to another Athens train station, a train to the port of Piraeus, and finally, catch the overnight ferry to the island of Santorini to meet some friends from the U.S. Somehow, it all came together and we made it to the port around 4 PM in plenty of time for our 7:30 departure. Hallelujah! We can do this!
