The Piper M600 / SLS Turboprop
The M600 from Piper is an upgrade to the M500, with improvements to its range, wing design, avionics and more. This single engine turboprop was announced in 2015, with deliveries commencing after receiving its FAA certification in 2016.
The engine used on this turboprop is the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-42A, with approximately 600 shp flat rated horsepower. With a slightly longer wingspan of around 43 ft 4", the redesigned wing also allows for more storage of fuel. These two improvements alone, help make the aircraft travel slightly faster when compared to the M500.
In terms of range, the M600 SLS can travel up to a maximum of 1,658 nautical miles. That is an improvement from the M500 which is able to travel up to 1,000 nautical miles. This turboprop also has a maximum cruise speed of Mach 0.41, along with a service ceiling of 30,000 ft.
The cabin in this aircraft measures 3 ft 11" in height, 4 ft 1" in width, and 12 ft 3" in length. In a standard configuration, the M600 can seat up to six passengers including pilot and crew.
One of the most notable improvements on this aircraft is the addition of the Garmin G3000 avionics suite with the HALO Safety System. It includes 3 large LCD displays, along with dual touch screen controllers. You will also find Synthetic Vision, Emergency Descent Mode, Garmin Autoland technology, Auto throttle and more.
Also:
In 2020, the M600 sold approximately 36 units as per the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) report.
