Week 5 - Project 8: Credit Card Wallet with Zipper, with pattern from the brilliant Mme. @beatriceamblard from the @amblardleatheratelier Well, finally this project is done! I was sooo close to finishing this wallet when Ms. Coronavirus rears its ugly face in San Francisco. With no access to just one tool for finishing the last edges, the project languished in my studio at home. No one in San Francisco had in stock the French produced tool, so I looked online and found someone in Ukraine who could supply me, until he found out Poland closed its borders, and his supplier was on the other side. Eventually I found a company in Utah that had it in stock, but the Shelter in Place there had slowed down the process of handling and shipping; but finally it arrived yesterday! Thank you @amelie_laure for the advice on supplies.🧵 . . . . . . . #maroquinerie #leather #saddlestitch #valettray #pinchedtray @amblardleatheratelier (at Amblard Leather Atelier) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-ibZFolhpZTrPzKjwFubD4L2kncmer_nGJWjc0/?igshid=1apkhc6znxyd7

I have been asked by some how I got the dachshund printed on the tray. Well, the answer is it was not printed. As you can see in the next few photos that it starts with a drawing/design, and then the design paper was superimposed on the “top” leather (light blue) and as I cut around the dachshund on the paper, it also cut out the same shape on the blue leather. The blue leather with the negative image of the dog is then pricked and stitched around the edges. The edge is then “finished” (several steps including cleaning the wax off the stitch, hammering the stitch, then sanding, dyeing, waxing, ironing, sanding again, waxing again, buffing, and cleaning.) Then the dark blue leather (already affixed with a foam pad) is affixed to the bottom of the light blue leather. And then I’m only half way done! 🧵 . . . . . . . #maroquinerie #leather #saddlestitch #valettray #pinchedtray @amblardleatheratelier (at Amblard Leather Atelier) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9i0Vt_FLwZsx0oemRqemuS6JUO3oTtO6_3J5g0/?igshid=1xs7nyxptd32r

Week 3 - Project 6: Valet Tray. This is the final project of Level 1, and I am so excited to share with you this little darling of mine. It has been a challenge to do this one, because of the shape of the dachshund that I had decided to do for this pinched tray. It is a surprise gift for David (and now he wants an identical one, since we have two dachshunds at home!) Moreover, there are a lot of detailed finishing (dyeing, buffing, and polishing the edges) and new ways of saddle stitching. The dark leather makes it difficult to sew as I could hardly see the pricked holes; but the result, I am extremely happy with it. And with this, I am moving on to Level 2. Thank you Mlles. @beatriceamblard and Amélie for their invaluable instructions and patience. Come on down to the Atelier and do a 1-day workshop!🧵 . . . . . . . #maroquinerie #leather #saddlestitch #pinchedtray @amblardleatheratelier (at Amblard Leather Atelier) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9UfVIjFo3tSn1VIy7XA73pO4jna07JSblg20A0/?igshid=ck53xq2ovrdz
