The Winter King (Pilot Review) | Let Them Cook
When the main criticism is skin tone you know you have a solid show and those who are stuck on that tell you more about themselves than anything else. #TheWinterKing #TheWarlordChronicles #EddieMarsan #IainDeCaestecker #PilotReview #TVSeries #TVAdaptatio

#supergirl #imcurrentlywatching #pilotreview Hi tv fans! I'm very much a 'new year, new show' type of person so last night I watched this show for the first time and thought I would review my first impressions. Now I haven't been living in a cave, ofcourse I've heard of it but I was always told I should watch this one without first watching Arrow and Flash first... so I didn't but like a rebel I decided to anyway and here's my reasons why this was an instant hit for me 1- a likeable lead. The story of Kara instantly drew me in and within the first 5 minutes my questions about how she was younger than her cousin were answered. It was straight into the action and showed relatable Kara as a girl trying to fit in just like everyone else. We get to join her on the journey of discovering her powers 2- it's lighthearted and quirky but not afraid to kick some serious butt! It actually gave me shivers. This is a very good mix indeed 3- Calista Flockhart as the bitch boss.... seriously if I had realised she was in this I probably would have watched ages ago as she is fantastic and has the best lines. 4- it is completely modern and clever complete with #hashtags and references to the world we live in. 5- the acting is superb. It's a show that is easy to watch and hold your interest at the same time. It's not often I watch something and literally can't tare my eyes away I hope that the rest of the season is as strong but I give the pilot a solid 9/10. I haven't enjoyed a pilot so much in ages Have you watched this show? Let me know what you thought of the pilot (no spoilers for future episodes please) I would recommend this to anyone Admin Mary #SUPERGIRL #karadanvers #catgrant #jamesolsen #superman #cyborgsuperman #alexdanvers #maggie

I had a chance to watch the pilot of the upcoming The Exorcist series from Fox in a movie theater last night. Back in 1973, the original was the definition of terror and panic and it was most likely revolutionary. But by the time we get to 2016, demon possession is a tired genre. This pilot is just The Exorcist's greatest hits mixed with what feels like a The Conjuring rehash. However, what might keep you glued to the screen are the characters. They give a fresh take on the genre amidst the clichés. And by clichés I mean certain way shots are framed and OMG there was someone standing behind you without making a sound! Anyway, if you're expecting head-turning terror, skip it. I won't keep watching. #theexorcist #fox #theexorcistfox #pilotreview #horror

Reign
I got into this pilot with not so high an expectation. Given my past experience with The CW, their shows tend to be overdramatic and unrealistic. Case in point: 90210. Think of every possible form of drama from pregnancy, to alcoholism, to car accidents, to cancer, to the list goes on. Name it, 90210 has covered it.
Upon seeing Reign's pilot, it seems to me that it will be overdramatic and it may be unrealistic. It's a CW show. The difference is, Reign has the right to be. It's a period piece and it revolves around the scandalous going-ons in the French Court.
They've set up this show in such a way that there cannot be an overdramatization. This show will live and thrive by it actually. It's exciting, it's interesting.
I don't know the extent to which it stays true to its historical basis but the pilot has definitely been able to establish the promise for the season. My take is that this show will be about the game. It's all a game and who will be playing it smart. It's going to be about who will be the leaders, the pawns, the masterminds. Amidst all that, how will our protagonist Mary come out of it on top? Will she even?

Maybe people more familiar with the history can answer, maybe not. I don't know.
All I know is there's so much beautiful mess this show can do and I will definitely continue watching. Let's hope it does not disappoint.

Mysteries of Laura
I know one of the popular opinions today is that the cop/detective show is overused.I myself watch a bunch of them: Castle, Forever, The Mentalist, Brooklyn Nine Nine.
What I enjoy about them is that you get to see how a show can put a spin on such a typical formula. Forever has that 200-year old immortal thing going on, which gives them so much opportunities and 200 years worth of flashbacks and history to incorporate. The Mentalist incorporated a, well, mentalist. And so on.
With the Mysteries of Laura, I feel it does not have that obvious hook or spin yet on an otherwise typical cop/detective formula. Sure, certain people might connect to the main character as a mother. Maybe some would enjoy her badassiness too. But - given that I am reviewing pilots, that's my take. It wasn't too strong a pilot. That isn't to say that I won't try to check out how the rest of this show pans out,

All in all I think it was a weak start but given that Debra Messing's character is actually quite interesting, I might just try to keep it going til I no longer feel I can.
...More to come .
