Title: Lullaby of the Waves
Characters and Trope: Edér + Vela Found Family
Rating: General
Summary: Edér tries his best to be a good uncle and parental figure after Vela lost everything.
-------------------------------------------
When kith consider places to raise their family, the deck of a ship is typically not at the top of the list of the most desirable locations. In Eora, a life of extensive travel brings as many dangers as it does opportunities, not to mention the lack of stability.
Though any place is good, in Edér’s mind, compared to the small town he once called home.
While places like Nekataka, Port Maje and Hasongo are considered relatively peaceful, the crew of the Defiant rarely has the chance to set foot on dry land for long periods of time. The seas of the Deadfire Archipelago, on the other hand, are as beautiful as they are deadly; their azure surface being a home for many pirates, miscreants and beasts alike.
Not to mention a certain God that has recently gone rogue. The one, who sows discord wherever he appears…
Eothas. The Shining God himself.
His God. The sole reason the crew had sailed in the first place.
All for his dear friend and their adoptive daughter.
Edér was sitting on an old wooden chair, lost in thoughts. Near him, various notes and maps were strewn across the massive desk. No smoke came out of his pipe, the last of his Whiteleaf now nothing more than ash. Meanwhile, an adorable Space Piglet was sleeping soundly on his lap, without a care in the world. Edér was laying one of his large farmer’s hands on its smaller head; normally, giving the small beast headpats was something that calmed his mind.
Suddenly, the large blonde heard a soft knock on the door of his cabin, followed by the loud creaking of the iron hinges. He gazed at the wooden door to his side, wondering if it was the helmsman with his report for the night…
Until he saw the familiar mess of brown hair, and the ever inquisitive gleam of blue underneath it.
“Uncle Edér? Are you busy with the ship?” The Orlan girl asked in a rather tired tone. Something must’ve gotten her out of her sleep.
“Nah, c’mere. Was going to leave it for the night anyway.” He stood up with a loud creak, the piglet now snoozing safely in his warm embrace. He turned to Vela. “I thought you went to bed earlier?”
“Nope, too cold. And the sailors are loud. Can I sleep here tonight?”
Vela stepped further into the small room, a small yawn escaping her small lips. She had a soft blanket wrapped around her tiny, fuzzy frame, all to keep at least some warmth around her. However, the vast majority of the green Wyrwool cascaded behind her, slowly tugged along whenever the Orlan moved.
It was a sight Edér thought to be just as funny-looking as it was adorable.
“Sure thing. Would you also like a story?”
“Yep.” The voice was little more than a hushed, tired peep. It was a stark contrast to her usually highly energetic self. “Can it be about Uncle Woden and the chickens?”
“Sure thing.”
“Yay!” Vela tiredly exclaimed, her long ears perking up… before launching herself with the last of her strength at the very large bed in the corner.
Almost all of her small body, with the sole exception of her face, disappeared under the soft, green blanket. Edér followed behind, the floorboards creaking with each step he took. He then sat down at the side of the bed, laying Cosmo next to Vela.
“Alright, so there was this guy named Hereward, who was our neighbor. Not a day passed where he didn’t talk about how he had the whitest chickens in all of the Dyrwood. Actually convinced the local butcher to pay him double than what the other farmers got…”
The little Orlan girl soon dozed off before she could hear the ending to the story with the white chickens and the old Fighter’s prank. Her small arms were wrapped snugly around the sleeping Space Piglet, a content smile on her face. The piglet snored lightly, gladly taking in the warmth of the small girl’s embrace.
Edér gazed at these two, stroking the girl’s head softly. He was happy to see her and Cosmo resting well. He knew just how much they deserve some respite from all the injustices Eora throws at them.
The large man sighed, his sight wandering towards the yellowing map. The deck of a ship is no place for a child, especially one as impressionable as little Vela.
But they had no other choice.
The only home the little one knew had been destroyed by the God he once revered. Edér bemoans not being able to provide her with something better. He regrets seeing her life uprooted overnight, hopping from place to place, not knowing how the journey across the Deadfire will end.
However, it was the only thing he could offer her.
While the journey they have embarked on is perilous, the alternative was, in Edér’s mind, just as awful. It would’ve broken his heart to have to leave her behind, even if it was for her own safety, as he grew to see her as his own child. And it would have no doubt broken her even more, right when she lost just about everything she held dear. Her home, her adoptive parent.
Only Cosmo and Edér were left.
In the quiet of the night, when the ship was gently swayed by the waves of the Deadfire, the Fighter made a silent promise. A promise to do his best to ensure that the little one feels loved in spite of all the chaos that life throws at her.

Ngl Abydon seems the most chill
Rimmy too, they just do their own thing. Even is Rimmy basically symbolizes the end of everthing
Hylea in my mind treats mortals as children, and believes herself to know better than them at all times. Coddling and actually votes for the Gods having control over mortals rather than let them do their own thing, but not the most problematic.
Skaen, Magran and Woedica are Problematic™, but I believe Eothas should be pretty up there on the problematic scale, possibly even 1st place.
I mean, he killed the Watcher's pets (with the exception of Cosmo) and was trying to force the Gods and mortals to cooperate by possibly bringing forth the end of the world. Did he even think what would happen in the interval between the destruction of the Wheel and the new world order/end of the world? Everything on Eora works because of the souls, even plants. In the first game, the grain harvests were very poor (as was seen in one of the Gilded Vale quests) in the Hollowborn-stricken Dyrwood, so to disrupt the soul distribution all over Eora would've been downright cataclysmic with mass starvation amongst the general populace.
All I'm saying is that while Woedica is an authoritarian, and Skaen and his followers are major pieces of shit, none of them would've gone so far as to try and end the world to have it their way.
there is a wrong answer. several, in fact
also see vote for the most problematic god

Let's Play Pillars of Eternity (BLIND) |30| A New Companion!
MOVE ASIDE MERCER AND MERCER! We got a new companion in the party and she's a bow wielding, fox touting ranger! And even better? A DWARF! That's leagues better than a curse flinging elf! Yes I have my preferences, what do you want?

i love it when your brain is kind to you and gives you good dreams
dreamt i was at a cast party for a midsummer night's dream and rekke pillarsofeternity was there and asked me to dance :]
#i was in the ensemble for the production#only thing i remember of it was sitting sandwiched between puck and oberon for a scene and internally wailing#bc the actors were speaking so softly i could barely hear them which meant the audience DEFINITELY couldn't#my unconscious brain did not give a reason as to why rekke was there#just kind of summoned him from the aether#spoken from the stars

durance pillarsofeternity got me thinking about clerics (or priests in his case, but we all know what I'm talking about) and I think the thing about clerics is that they can be as likable or unlikable as they want but they do have to be at least a little insufferable to be around for long stretches of time. all well developed clerics are, on some level, wretched little creatures.

thoughts so far
- being a drow fucks
- being a paladin Really Fucks
- I'm actually tempted to use the worms?? like normally when games do the "ehehe here's an option to acquire Power but it has A Cost" I'm like lol no thanks idiot but. I keep finding myself going "maybe a little illithid power could be okay..." Slippery Slope, Babes
- general party setup: me (ancients paladin) + astarion (assassin with bow) + wyll (fjord criticalrole really opened my eyes to how warlocks can be useful) + karlach/lae'zel swapping out
- i'd thought i'd like shadowheart more than I do. 90% chance it's just her early personality not vibing with me, but also getting her approval is super slow for me bc. I just never take her anywhere. don't need to. I've got heals + potions, the party has 3 melee fighters, and there's not a lot of utility magic in this game so that's half the point of a cleric out the window (at least compared to what I prioritize when making actual-dnd clerics)
- did Not expect to like lae'zel as much as i do. it's partly bc I know already that she Can Get Better but also I find her directness and intensity relatable
- gale is alright, but like shadowheart suffers from "sorry we've got two casters in the party already" and "jfc are my only spell options to deal direct damage to one (1) target or to waste a slot on something useless in combat" (I want utility! crowd control! set up environmental or status conditions that the others can exploit! aloth pillarsofeternity was a permanent fixture in my party not bc he could kill things real good but bc he could hit a whole cluster of enemies from forever away and set things up for my fighter pc to McFuck Everyone Up)
- i went into this believing wyll and karlach would be my faves and i am correct
- have not met halsin yet, much less any other companions
- this camera is so finicky s2g. I almost got stuck in this gnoll cave because I was underground but had somehow managed to get the camera above ground and could not for the life of me return it to the party. it took three solid minutes of trying to find the precise angle and zoom level to reach a point where i could get any reachable ground on screen to gradually direct the party to the surface
- I didn't realize that the party supply bag in my inventory contributed to my encumbrabce for the longest time. I am a terrible hoarder and will pick up Every Lootable Item so you can guess how frequently I was popping back to the grove to try to regain a few pounds of inventory space until I discovered the problem (and the Send Item To Camp option...)
- I pushed the maturity slider in chargen all the way to the end and my pc still looks like. mid 30s. maybe 40 at worst in certain lighting. hashtag just elf things ig?? I've seen other people's characters, i know they can look sufficiently aged!
- mmmmm i like my pc, haelra. big tol beefy drow enby
- I think they were originally a mercenary, probably classed as a fighter, though with a quiet interest in arcana and a fascination with the mages employed by their company. eventually crossed paths with a sunny purple tiefling, a devotion paladin, who caught not only their interest but eventually their heart. over time they grew close, enough that haelra left the company to marry them. several decades of settling and asventuring and settling somewhere new, until the spouse aged and died naturally. imagine it's been another decade or so since then, and haelra returned to life on the road, leading to whatever got them on the nautiloid and started the game. the guardian, naturally, took the shape of their spouse, later in their life but still strong and healthy and with a soft, comforting smile
so my partner came to my state this week + i spent a lot of the time playing bg3 on xir laptop
might have to bump it up my priority list, this shit is fun once you've got your feet

Greetings!
Today I bring you guys a lil project I've been working on. A set of fonts based on the languages of Eora that actually have official orthography. Specifically: Aedyran, Engwithan, Huana, and Vailian.
They're free to use, all I'm asking is that you give me a link to whatever (art) project you use these for. Some credit would also be nice.
Go ham, my Space Piggies <3
