iv. gaon's research log
genshin impact x xdinary heroes au - piillow's slumber party special!
wc : 829 | genre : au, headcannon, some laughs maybe idk | a/n : HAPPY GAON DAY !!
ヾ(@⌒ー⌒@)ノ
“gah! fine. sit down, ears open. you’ve been a good student these past few months, i suppose it’s time you finally get some information you want.” citlali said begrudgingly. “and also because it’s your birthday, i guess i’ll do it. but you can’t tell anyone else about this, okay?” she continued.
“why not?” gaon questioned. “that’s what researchers do, they share their findings with people so they can learn too.”
“i know that, dummy! but, this is the mare jivari. not even i know everything about it. that doesn’t mean i’m not a trusted source, i’m just… cautious about who i tell it to…” citlali replied.
gaon couldn’t believe it. finally, this training wasn’t going to waste after all! he quickly sat down on the patch of grass he had created with his vision, and got his notebook out. as granny itzli talked, he quickly wrote stuff down, and keeping his questions saved for later. he didn’t want to interrupt her…
“Mare Jivari:
1000 years ago, the Wanderer’s Troupe went to battle (I think..? Granny Itzli talks fast…)
Before it became a wasteland
Tenoch and six other tribe masters went to finish with the WT started 500 years later
Border Master Sanhaj then made a small Night Kingdom to get rid of everything, then it became a wasteland
Then the Lavawalker (sage) was able to enter in and out of the Mare Jivari (how???)
Stanley (Mondstadt person) went a few hundred years after the Lavawalker died, but died while trying to save someone from a monster (wow… he seems familiar… I think I learned about him once)
Currently there roams a dark beast on the island the size of a mountain
And also a storm (similar to Inazuma)
It used to be a flourishing place but now has eternal flames (I guess they never go out?)”
when citlali was finally done talking, gaon looked up from his notebook in shock.
“is it really that bad?” he timidly asked. he knew the mare jivari was some desolate wasteland, but he didn’t think its history was this bad.
“i wouldn’t lie to you, would i?” citlali retorted. she did have a point, she barely lied to him, especially considering how obedient he was.
“right, sorry granny.” he said, while continuing to think. he had so many questions running through his mind, but he didn’t know where to start.
“no questions, huh? Really?” she teased, but gaon took this as the green light to start asking questions, so he started firing away.
to make the day more productive, they sparred while gaon asked questions to help with his multitasking.
while gaon swung his polearm at itzpapa’s attacks, he tried his best to listen to citlali while not getting hit.
“so- why- ah! why is it a wasteland now?” he asked through his attacks, slightly struggling.
“no stuttering! equal focus, remember?” citlali said before properly answering the question, making sure he understood all of it.
a bit later, she finally let the two of them take a break.
“itzpapa! you can stop attacking him now, and be more gentle next time, you almost broke the spear multiple times. i don’t want to go all the way back to the children of the echoes to ask xilonen for one.” she said.
“oh, xilonen? that name sounds familiar…” gaon mumbled to himself, even though citlali overheard it.
“mhm, she’s an ancient name forger from the children of echoes. i don’t think you’ve been there before. you should visit sometime before you go back to sumeru, it’ll be worth it. you might as well visit the other tribes while you’re at it, i’ve got connections!”
“connections? like who?” he asked, now suddenly curious.
“most of the ancient name bearers and even the archon herself, that’s who.” citlali replied, proudly scoffing. “you wouldn’t think i’d have any, huh?”
gaon quickly shook his head. “oh, no! i would never, granny. i’m just surprised, i guess. i mean, the archon? what’s she like? similar to mine?”
“well, she wasn’t locked up for 500 years, so definitely not. … was that too rude? i’m sorry.”
“... it’s fine.”
citlali then nodded. “well, if you’re sure.” she said before describing the archon to him, telling him about what she knows about her backstory, and how they’re decently close.
after a long few hours of deep conversation and training, he was done for the day. when he got back to his place, he immediately headed to bed to try and get some sleep. unfortunately, his mind was still plagued with so many questions and what ifs that he couldn’t fall asleep.
“where was the lavawalker from?”
“do we really know what the origin of the monster is?”
“is someone behind all this?”
“who were the wanderer’s troupe fighting? was it important?”
“where did the storm come from?”
questions like this kept him awake, and he continuously tossed and turned until eventually falling asleep, hoping he could find more answers in the future…

ii: gunil's diary entries
genshin impact x xdinary heroes au - piillow's slumber party special!
wc : 626 | genre : kinda sad?, idk just hcs | a/n : "AAW" stands for "after archon war", and will be used in most of the other solo chapters!! please enjoy this (kinda late) gunil drabble :)
(^人^)
april ??, year 25 AAW
i honestly lost track of time after basically becoming a wanderer. the vision hunt decree is after everyone… what is the shogun planning to do? is this what eternity calls for? is this part of her plan?
part of her plan or not, i’m still starving. i don’t think i’ve eaten a proper sized meal in at least two weeks, and i haven’t been to work in forever. hajime sensei knows why, which is fine, but what am i supposed to do? i don’t really feel safe anywhere, there’ s samurai’s in all the “good” hideout spaces.
i’ve been walking around for about a month, and haven’t met anyone yet. maybe i’ll find someone soon…
— — — — —
july 24th, year 25 AAW
the vision hunt decree isn’t over yet, but it’s my birthday! i bumped into someone a few weeks ago and got a calendar because it was heavy on their load. thank goodness i got one, or else i’d probably go insane right about now.
speaking of insane, the thunderstorms surrounding inazuma are becoming stronger… i was going to try and make a boat or some raft, but i guess that’s not possible.
i haven’t seen my home in months, i hope my family is doing okay, and that hajime sensei isn’t worried about me.
— — — — —
august 11th, year 25 AAW
i met someone today, his name is kazuha. he’s a very calm person, considering his story about his friend going against the shogun herself.
wow… the guts you’d need to have to do that. it’s very admirable. he talks about the wind a lot too, but i guess it’s because of his anemo vision. and me on the other hand, with a geo vision.
(i tried to make a joke, but i gave up halfway through. it’s late, and i’m sleepy and hungry, cut me some slack. (kind of an a/n lmao))
still! we decided that we should probably stick together for a week ot two, since travelling alone during a time like this is pretty scary. and yeah, it definitely is.
the samurai’s around here are no joke. i’ve even seen some fatui agents sometimes… what are they doing here?
— — — — —
september 22nd, year 25 AAW
this was probably the worst day of my life. oh my god.
while i was peacefully fishing on the beach, a kujou clan member found me, and i thought it was over. but no, it got worse. the idiot decided to call over more troops.
thankfully these people from the "resistance" helped me out. the person looked like a half human, half dog. kind of that shrine maiden... what's her name?
anywho, his name is gorou, and he offered for me to join them. i'm not one for war, so i declined. but, i wouldn't be writing this right now if he didn't save me, so i definitely want to help them out in the future.
— — — — —
november 4th, year 25 AAW
i snuck into the city today and saw thoma walking around with a blonde person. i wonder who it was… but also, why was he not getting arrested? is the vision hunt decree finally over?
i’m writing in here again a few hours later, and yes! it’s finally over! i even saw miss kamisato walking around with the blonde person too. i wonder who they are… they must be a traveler.
i wonder how they got through the storms.. kazuha told me that he knew someone who had a ship that could get past them, which is really cool. i can’t help but feel jealous, honestly. that sounds so sick!

v. o.de's new discovery
genshin impact x xdinary heroes au - piillow's slumber party special!
wc : 635 | genre : au, headcanon, mystery (barely) | a/n: sorry this is delayed :( yesterday was roughhh LMAOO ---- ALSO POTENTIAL LORE SPOILERS! BE CAREFUL!
( ̄︶ ̄)↗
right when he walked into the knights of favonius hq, he saw kaeya and a few other knights rushing to get ready.
“oh, seungmin! perfect timing, we need you to help jean protect the bridge. the hilichurls are starting to get closer to the city again.” kaeya said before quickly running to a different room.
after hearing the sudden news, seungmin quickly ran to his office to put his things down, and grabbed his spellbook before rushing out of the building, and to the bridge.
when he had arrived right outside the city walls, he noticed jean and a few other knights fighting off the seemingly never ending swarm of hilichurls. in a rush, he quickly threw a gust of wind, blowing away the ones at the front of the pack.
“jean! i’m sorry for my delay, kaeya just told me the news!” seungmin said while tirelessly fighting off the hilichurls.
as jean swiftly swung her sword, she quickly smiled at him. “no need, thank you for coming as quick as possible! focus on the horde, we’ll talk after!”
doing as he was told, him and the other knights tried their best to hold off the front of the horde, while he could see many other knights taking care of the back. namely, he could see amber (mostly baron bunny explosions), kaeya, mika, eula, lisa, albedo, and sucrose.
after a few hours of tiring work, the horde slowly came to a stop, and everyone made their way back to the hq.
“so, do we have any idea of why the hilichurls are getting closer again?” jean asked, hoping someone would have a thought to share.
lisa then spoke up, even though she sounded slightly unsure. “i think it’s something to do with the abyss again, although i don’t remember seeing anything suspicious when we were out there. did anyone else see something?”
everyone then pondered for a little bit, before shaking their heads. “i did a quick round around the area after, but i didn’t see anything.” amber spoke.
“hm, that’s suspicious… all we can do for now is hope it doesn’t get worse, and find something about the potential abyssal power involved.” jean replied.
“lisa, do you mind if i take a look in the restricted section?” albedo suddenly asked, followed by seungmin and sucrose also asking a similar question.
“depends, what will you use it for? well, i’m sure you all have your different reasons, but sure, just remember to return them back to me.” lisa replied, in which everyone nodded.
seungmin’s days that followed mostly consisted of lots of reading through old books to try and find something out about abyssal power, and some training in the forest, occasionally needing to fight a few hilichurls.
while he was clearing a hilichurl camp one day, he noticed a similarity between himself and them. the hilichurls looked strangely like humans. “what could this be..?” he asked himself, full of curiosity.
so, when he got back to the hq, he immediately tried to find sucrose, and asked if he could see the hilichurl she had in her lab.
“w-what? you don’t want to kill it, do you?” she timidly asked him.
“no! no, i promise that’s not my plan. i just made a realization, but i’m not sure if i’m right yet, so that’s why i need to see it… if that’s okay?” he replied, hoping she would let him inspect the hilichurl.
“uh, sure… just don’t hurt it, okay?”
“i promise.” he said in reassurance.
after finally making it to her lab, and inspecting the hilichurl, seungmin and sucrose both came to the conclusion that hilichurls were indeed very similar to humans.
now, they just had to figure out why.

iii. jungsu's travels - sumeru
genshin impact x xdinary heroes au - piillow's slumber party special!
wc : 713 | genre : idk just silly, teeny tiny sad parts | a/n : not proofread, sorry :(
≡[。。]≡
“i think this is the right place…” jungsu said to himself as he approached the gates of sumeru city. as he walked around, he took a look at his map and confirmed he was indeed in sumeru city, the land of wisdom.
“now i just need to find the akademiya, i guess i’ll ask around.” he mumbled. he started to get desperate for some answers towards his sister’s disease, and decided to come here after lisa from the knights of favonius suggested he go to the akademiya.
while he walked around, he noticed a blonde guy with a briefcase sitting alone at a restaurant table doing work. he seemed smart, so he might have a clue, right?
“um, excuse me, do you know where the akademiya is? it’s open to the public, right?” he asked, the awkwardness clear in his voice.
“the akademiya? oh, yes, it is. do you have to meet with someone there?” the man asked, to which jungsu shook his head.
“uhh…” he started, “it’s kind of hard to explain. i just want access to the library, that’s all.”
“sure! i’m assuming you need directions, so i’ll come with you. i need to go back anyway.” the man replied, starting to gather his things together.
while they walked, the two of them had a casual conversation, starting to learn some things about each other.
“so, jungsu, you don’t look like you’re from here. are you from… liyue?” kaveh questioned, genuinely curious.
“yes, i am. i’m here to hopefully find a cure to my sister’s disease. the doctor’s said they tried everything, but haven’t found anything that works… i’m worried for her.” jungsu said.
“hm… i see… well, i’m sorry about your sister, first of all. second, i should be able to get you someone who knows the place like the back of his hand.” kaveh scoffed. as much as he hated al haitham, he wanted to help jungsu as much as he could. he just hoped that al haitham would actually go along with it, and not turn jungsu down. it’s not the first time he’s rejected outsiders.
by the time they reached the akademiya, jungsu couldn’t help but stare in awe at the architecture of the building.
“wow… you said you’re an architecture, right? i can see why…” he said in amazement, to which kaveh chuckled.
when the two of them reached the library, kaveh laid his eyes on the one and only. he turned to jungsu, suppressing the urge to start trash-talking.
“there he is. his name is al haitham. he’s basically the leader of the akademiya, but he rejected it. the old grand sage was a power-hungry man, so i guess he doesn’t want the people to perceive him like that too. which, i guess is understandable.” he shrugged.
“he rejected it? huh, i guess it must’ve been really bad…” jungsu said, slightly surprised.
as they walked over to al haitham engaged in his book, kaveh cleared his throat.
“‘scuse me. you’ve got a visitor, and for good reason this time, i promise.” he stated, before turning to jungsu.
“oh, hi. i was just wondering where the books on diseases and medicine are? i’m trying to find a suitable medication for my sister with an unknown condition.” jungsu stated, hoping that al haitham wouldn’t ignore him. he seemed really cold and distant, which would definitely match kaveh’s descriptions…
“medicine? they’re just behind me. you look like you’re from liyue, maybe your sister has eleazar.” al haitham replied in his usual flat tone.
“no, it’s not. i tried giving her proper treatment for it, but nothing happened.” jungsu replied, starting to walk to the bookshelf.
while jungsu looked through the books, kaveh was catching up al haitham on everything he’s currently discovered. all his travels, his findings, and his failures.
since jungsu couldn’t stay in sumeru for very long, al haitham promised him that he’d send him letters whenever a new book came in, so he wouldn’t need to traverse so far.
even after a whole year, al haitham hasn’t broken his promise. whenever jungsu receives a new letter from him, he likes to sit down with xingqiu and baizhu to discuss the new findings, and sometimes the extra messages from kaveh at the bottom of the letter.

xdinary impact au - introduction !
wc : 1.8k | genre : headcanon, au, lowkey sad idk | a/n : HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!
ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ
Gunil - Geo claymore
An Inazuman blacksmith, who works as Hajime’s apprentice. He had suddenly received his Geo vision while he was mining for ores alone, and ended up not being able to work because of the Vision Hunt Decree.
During the few months where he quietly lived on Inazuma, he became good friends with Kazuha, who is now one of his best friends.
When he was suddenly caught by a Kujou Clan member, Gunil had to fend for himself while trying to run away to not get more attention.
But, when the soldier ended up yelling for his troops, more people came, and Gunil was starting to struggle.
That’s when Gorou and a few other Resistance soldiers helped him fend off the soldiers, coming out on top.
After cleaning themselves up, Gorou asked him if he wanted to come to Watatsumi Island to potentially join the Resistance. But Gunil politely declined, as he wanted to stay with Hajime, since he still had lots more to learn.
Not being able to go to work for months at a time became daunting, so Gunil would go to work and hide his vision in hopes that he wouldn’t be caught.
Nowadays, since the Decree has been abolished, he spends his time learning and delivering weapons and goods to the Sangonomiya Shrine for the Resistance as a thanks for what they did for him.
Jungsu - Hydro sword
A traveling musician, but is from Liyue. He had received news of when Dr. Baizhu had told his family that his sister had a mysterious disease that could potentially be incurable, so he now seeks to find a cure.
And when he was out looking for herbs one day, he found a shiny “gem” at the bottom of a pond with lotuses in it, and pulled it out to find a vision.
Ever since he told his family he wanted to go out and try and find a cure, they wanted him to defend himself, so he had gotten training from Xingqiu, who helped him get a hang of the sword.
As a way to get quick money on the road, he tends to sing and perform to make people happier.
So far, he has been to Mondstadt, Fontaine, and Natlan. But, he has been unsuccessful in all of them.
When he was visiting Sumeru, he bumped into Al Haitham going to the Akademiya when he was performing on the street, and stopped him.
Al Haitham had invited him to the Akademiya to look through books in hopes to find some clue, but there hasn’t been any luck so far. When he goes back to Liyue, he always brings regional specialties for his family so they can all have a taste from a different part of the world.
Taking advantage of the time he has at home, he talks to Xingqiu and Baizhu if they have found anything, but nothing for now.
Xiangling was told by Xingqiu about Jungsu’s sister, and likes to cook them meals whenever she has the chance. With special and “interesting” ingredients, of course.
Jungsu and Xinyan also both enjoy practicing and performing together, and look at each other as mentors, as well as “bandmates.”
Gaon - Dendro polearm
A Sumerian scholar who resides in the Masters of the Night Wind in hopes to learn about the Mare Jivari.
When his family went to Natlan when he was younger, he overheard some people talking about it, and it has piqued his interest since.
Ever since he heard the little information about it, he strived to become a scholar at the Akademiya, and ended up topping all his classes in school. The Grand Sage had seen his talent, and immediately asked him about it, to which he happily obliged.
During an interview that Gaon was having with the Grand Sage Azar, he was asked why he wanted to become a scholar. This is when he talked about the Mare Jivari, and how he would like to study there to find out more about it.
Though the Grand Sage was hesitant to let him go at first, he eventually gave in, because he wanted more knowledge.Since then, he has been in Natlan.
While exploring the land, he met Ororon, and took him to meet Citlali/Granny Itzli, and is now one of her grandsons. One day, while she was helping Gaon with his polearm, he felt a powerful surge of Dendro energy flow through him and his spear, and that’s when he got his vision.
Though he doesn’t visit his family, he sends packages pretty often. Usually they contain some cooking ingredients, and messages that he is doing okay and learning a lot.
Ode - Anemo catalyst
The current Captain of the Magic Company of the Knights of Favonious.
Ever since he was a child, he’d always been interested in magic and because his father was an entertainer for children.
Whenever he played with his friends in the city, they always pretended they were wizards. If they ever saw Lisa walking around, they would always ask her questions about magic, to which she would happily answer them.
One day when they were playing around, as Ode pretended to chant a spell to lift his friends off the ground, he closed his eyes, and saw them start floating. When they all came back to the ground and caught their breaths, there was a shiny orb on the ground, which happened to be his vision.
Since then, his friends had helped him practice and hone his skills, until Ode eventually joined the Knights when he was 17.
Even though he wasn’t as good with an actual weapon like everyone else, Lisa recognized him from when he was younger, and pulled him aside. The first time this happened, the two of them caught up for a bit until she noticed his vision on his belt. This piqued her interest, and that’s when he told her about when he received the vision.
Lisa then took this as an opportunity to train him, because he had a lot of potential. Eventually, she asked him if he wanted to be Captain of the Magic Company.
Ode was confused, obviously because she was a better fit. But, she didn’t want the position, and was content with being the librarian.Soon enough, Ode, Lisa, Jean, Kaeya, Amber, Albedo, and all the other captains were sat down in a meeting room, with the hopes of Ode becoming one of them by the end of it.
After the long meeting, Jean decided that it would be a good idea, and declared him the Captain of the Magic Company.
Sadly, shortly after his declaration, his father had passed, but that was when he promised that every mission he was assigned would be dedicated to him.
Junhan - Electro bow
A Fontainian electro vision holder who writes for The Steambird, and is also a frequent goer of the Opera House.
Junhan works closely with Charlotte, so he is knowledgeable about the big shots in Fontaine.
Most of the time he is found walking around the Court of Fontaine writing down any local or big music events that are happening, so they can be put into the paper.
Ever since he was a kid, he’d always been interested in music, playing the guitar as often as he could. Sometimes he would put off his school work.
This caused his parents to worry about his education, even after Junhan had shown them that he was doing perfectly fine. Sure, a few 80’s every now and then, but very good overall grades nonetheless.
Seeing his parents still worried, he decided to stop playing the guitar for a few years to be able to focus on his studies.
Junhan was always good at writing in school, and his teachers always pointed it out to him, some even suggesting he work at The Steambird when he’s older.
When he was old enough to find a job, that’s the first thing he did. He did have a passion for writing, and he hoped that it was good enough for the paper.
After a few weeks of applying for other jobs, he had gotten a letter in the mail that he had gotten accepted as one of the writers!
The first articles that he had written were mostly about minor things, but that was until Charlotte had noticed his disinterest whenever given a new assignment. That was when she asked him what he wanted to write about, and he said music.
One time while he was walking around the Court of Fontaine, he found a shiny purple rock on the ground near a poster of an upcoming performance. After closer inspection, he found it was a vision.
When he brought it back to his office, Charlotte asked about it, and wrote an article about it, interviewing him like he was a celebrity. Since then, the two of them are now good friends in and out of the workplace and have matching keychains for their visions to symbolize their friendship.
Jooyeon - Cryo catalyst
A person of Natlan who is from the Scions of Canopy, known for helping people train their Saurians.
He isn't super close with Kinich, but the two are on good terms. Kinich says they're “acquaintances at best.”
When helping someone train their aggressive Saurian, he was given an empty vision as a thank you gift. For a while he kept it on his bedside table, not thinking that he'd be able to awaken it one day.
That was until Kinich came up to him one day and asked him to be his group mate for the Pilgrimage. Somehow he'd found out about the empty vision given to him, so he told him to bring it on the day of the Pilgrimage.
So on the day of, he brought his vision. During the group round, he was about to be stabbed by someone, before he suddenly shot an icicle from his finger, making him live.
While Kinich saw him come back, he pointed out Jooyeon’s awakened vision. When his group passed the first round, Jooyeon had also passed the individual round. So, now he was going into the 1v1s.
He had never gotten this far in the Pilgrimage before, so he didn't know what to expect. But, his other team members gave him encouraging words.
Sadly, he wasn't one of the four warriors to go fight in the Night Kingdom, but he didn't mind. He tried his best, and that's what counts!
Now, he sometimes helps hunt Saurians with Kinich every once in a while.
(sorry joo's is slightly shorter, natlan aq isn't done yet + i'm not caught up ㅠㅠ)
