For the bacteria to act of the manure, some heat is required; therefore, in areas that experience a lot of freezing during the winter, it might not work perfectly. Also, when you are using the open manure pods, there is the odor that comes from the manure stored and the odor can affect the environment and can be a health hazard to those living near the farm. The open manure pods also attach more flies which also affects the neighbors, and you know the effects of having flown around. With such effects, the local authority may decide to close your farm, or you may end up having a lot of lawsuit in the court.

Due to those reasons, the Smithfield Farms have opted to the use of plastic lid cover for their manure ponds. The cover will help in containing the odor that is emulated by the manure. When you are using the manure pod cover, you have control of the reaction that happens in the pod and when the bacteria react on the manure methane gas is produced naturally. The methane gas can be a source of heat and power, whereby it can be used to cook and also lighting our homes.

In conclusion, the methane gas produced is eco-friendly to the environment, and if adopted, we will reduce the pollution of the environment.
