Autumn Summuning Pie
In my witchy musings is stumbled upon this post by @madamehearthwitch and community , and though this sounded like fun and a great way to dip my feet into practicing waters through something I’m familiar with, baking!
I used this wonderful crust recipe,(plus a touch of vanilla, tastes almost like sugar cookies!) rolled it out
and into the pan if went! I first sprinkled the crust with sugar to keep the crust from getting soggy, then in the sugar a drew a peace symbol/sigil and prayed for peace in my life, household, family, and the world in the coming season.
I then, of course, added my filling. It was improvised, so I cannot provide an exact recipe, but soaked a bunch of dried figs + four or five dates in water, bourbon and vanilla over night, then stewed and pureed them. After that I roughly followed Betty Crocker’s Pumpkin Pie recipe, subbing pumpkin out for the fig mixture.
Once the shell was filled, I went and crimped the edges to look like a sun (to me at least) and prayed that we keep The Light and warmth within us through the coming dark seasons.
Baked at 365, well, until it was done (40 min-ish?) which I decided was when all the corners were too dark to bake any longer.
After allowing pie to cool, I paired it with a hard cider which I spiced, and relaxed for a nice autumnal snooze
Happy (soon to be) Fall!

I haven’t tried this one yet, but it’s definitely going to be my fall-summoning recipe this year! (Or at least, one of them). And considering the recipe comes from Rachel Patterson, I feel like it’s bound to be amazing.
Let’s keep talking about crusts! This one was a submission from @estfortis (not sure if that shows up in the thingy as I’ve not really done submissions before).
I’ve not tried it either, but I agree, it’s from Rachel Patterson, it’s probably delicious! And apples and cheese just go together. It’s a law.

PieAThon2018
Where the actual fuck did this week goooo? For serious. I have been looking forward to making pie and sharing recipes all week (thank you to everyone who submitted recipes!). Had some Stuff™ happen earlier this week. (I’m fine, MrHW, the kiddo and all pets are fine, it’s someone close to me.)
So I didn’t get to share all the recipes I wanted to. But if you search my blog you’ll find my sour cream pie crust, and my favorite butterbeer apple pie.
I don’t know about where y’all live, but the magic IS already working here. This week the temps have DROPPED, we’ve had rain. It feels like Autumn!
Do keep sharing recipes, tagging me in them (hopefully I’ll see, you can always DM me the post to make sure!). Life’s a bit rough right now, but it’s been great seeing the kitchen and hearth witch community out in force :D
